Huge lake with lots to do. Eating establishments are slim off-season but there's a few places in town to go. Many campgrounds but I hear they fill up really fast. A few different beaches to enjoy. Different places to rent including hotels cabins and there are places on VRBO or Airbnb. Some good walking trails not to mention along the dam. Lots of picnic areas and a few playgrounds. There's enough there to keep the kids entertained or to get out and enjoy nature a little bit

Stop by the dam on our way out on adventure. Come to find out they're giving her a new paint job! I'm sure she was due for one. While we are here with all the rain they have two locks open and pouring out fast. Lots of rain lots of rain!

Nice place to spend your day . Sand on a beach gets very hot after noon . Well organized places for BBQ. Shower is ok . I’ll be back again.

It grows on you. For those who have been to natural lakes you might scoff at Carlyle. The view of the lake is limited due to the marina. However, the scene is peaceful. People from all walks of life cohabiting with music and the smell of grilling in the air. I recommend for those with no plans in particular other than to relax and enjoy the steady breeze.

Huge lake. Good fishing. Boat rental is expensive. Large Asian carp to fish for. Use mashed potatoes,or a mixture of peanut butter, vanilla icing and jiffy corn bread mix. Nice trails for walking.

Love this place. We usually go twice a year. The park is big with a number of picnic tables, but it does get busy on holiday weekends so bring blankets for a picnic just in case all tables are full. They have a marina, a restaurant, a hotel, and campsites around the lake, and it's right outside Carlyle IL so if you forget anything or prefer not to pack a picnic, there's a grocery and a couple restaurants in town too. There is a nice sand beach close to the marina, and they don't allow glass on the beach either, so you can go barefoot if you like.

Very fun and free place to make memorable summer memories. No lifeguards so be careful but it is also a bonus as the privacy is kinda nice

Great lake but costly fishing on the banks. Get hung up a lot on the rocks. Must have a boat to be honest

Always beautiful. I think the wildlife poses for your camera! Lots of hiking trails. Lots of camping spots a awesome cabins on the lake!

It seems like a nice place, beach was full, hotel, restaurant and campground close.

Murky water with tons of insects! But the kids had fun in the little swimming area on Keyesport.

Nice peaceful place great vibes for Labor Day weekend...

One of my favorite lakes to hang out at! Rolling security is super friendly and I feel safe with them patrolling the area. It is a large lake but I always seem to land at the dam. I am fascinated with the sounds and hope to catch the dam sections open and close. There are lots of shady spots but bring your own blanket or folding chair.
