4.5 stars. A proper chippy! Had Cod but shoulda had Haddock. Pretty good thin batter. Good quality fish and the chips done to a nice brown without being sloppy or too greasy. My only bug bear is I think it might be cooked in "sustainable" oil which makes the chips skin tough like roast potatoes and lacked a bit of jennysaykwar. Sadly that loses a point on my aficionado-ometer. Yorkshire uses dripping which is next level but the normal oil can still be crispy without skin effect me postulates... Still top shelf though. I'm a picky lad of Fleetwood origin. Next time I would try the fish fingers as they look great.

Decided to stop here on my way to watch Everton vs Boreham Wood at a pub. Best chippy I’ve had out of the 8 or so chippies I’ve eaten across England during my holiday. Fish had great texture - crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside. Juicy but not too oily. Tasted great, and the chips were not soggy, something I’ve noticed with other places. Ketchup and tartar sauce given for free as well. Big ups to this place.

Simply, one of the best fish & chip shops in the world, it's been there for four generations - so they have to be doing something right. In the heart of the community, you'll get a friendly welcome from the moment you arrive to order, and then - as it's usually busy - while you wait, you may well find yourself getting caught up in various conversations going on about topical issues. The portions are large and good value for money and tastes great - takeaway only though.

The finest fish and chips on Merseyside. Have been visiting this little gem for over 25 years and the quality of the food has always been 5 stars. 4th generation chippy 93 years and still going strong. I'd give it 6 stars if I could.

A trip to this chipy left me excited to try them out after all the reviews. But am massively disappointed. The fish looked really good inside but the batter was so oily and very little crispyness to it and most important No taste at all The Cheese Savory was so Olie it went straight in the Bin we couldn't eat it.The chips was the only good thing but still very little taste . Am confused after this because everyone said there fish is amazing Or they haven't had a good fish yet lol. Am giving it 2 stars because the chips where ok and the fish wasn't slimmy. Am getting the feeling the oil needed replacing actually thinking about it now. Am actually starting to think Liverpool hasn't got any good fish and chips.. Other than Good catch but even then it's hit and miss.

Having visited our daughter at Liverpool university, we came across Byrnes Fish and chip shop..OMG the best cod and chips me and my wife have had ever, batter not thick or greasy, cod thick and meaty and chips to die for!!!, my daughter had cheesie chips and had the cheese and onion pie, better than being by the seaside, great value a must to visit when in liverpool, served by friendly staff too. We definitely will be coming back, worth the 3 1/2 hour drive.

Clean food, clean shop and very good customer service. Me and my partner had it last night it was a real treat. The batter is crispy. The fish is fresh. The wait might be 5-10 minutes as you are not the only one there at any given moment, everyone seems to love this place. There is always other people waiting to enjoy byrnes lovely fish too, the line started outside and within a few minutes we was asked what we wanted and served. Given how nice the food is. The price is also good too compared to london prices where we are from. Overall really enjoyed it and will be going back tonight.

Jumbo portions and fresh fish. Made to order but is worth the wait. Its a takeaway place but I would recommend to eat it straightaway and enjoy the fish (haddock in our case) at its best!

WOW WOW... SIMPLY THE BEST FISH & CHIPS I'VE HAD FOR AT LEAST 30 YEARS. We have decided that everytime we travel to Liverpool we will come here for our dinner or tea. The food last night was OUTSTANDING. I cannot remember the last time that any chippy has come anywhere near this in terms of quality.

Great chippy that serves gluten-free food on Mondays. Staff are nice and the place is really clean. Just wish they had shouted about the gluten-free more as I've been craving fish and chips for ages!

We travel from hunts cross to visit Byrne's on a now and again basis. They are easily among the best chips I've experienced in Liverpool. I'd advise getting there around opening time because it does get very busy.

I don't ever have a chippy, but since seeing it on you tubes RATE MY TAKEAWAY I had to try it. my kids had sausage and chips and I only got chips and curry. my eldest is the fussiest eater I've ever come across and she said its the best chips she's ever had! so if she likes it, then it's the best chippy! staff were probably the friendliest people I've ever come across in a chippy. Will defo be seeing this little gem again, to try the fish.

Disappointed. Ordered fish chips curry and peas x2 Chips were chewy and greasy fish was freshly cooked but greasy. Peas and curry just standard. It was a dinner time but was looking forward to it after seeing "rate my takeaway " YouTube video. Nice people but just very standard quality food.

This is by far the best chippy I've been to. Fried Fish? excellent, chips? warm and tasty, value for money? yes. They do a cheese savory, naughty but nice. Friendly staff, obviously well versed in the fish n chips game and very reasonable prices.

Best fish whether is battered, breaded or floured always fresh ! Always well cooked !! Polite and respectful staff any other place are a poor imitation of what you get here....

First time visit to pick some food up for a little worktime get together with colleagues to celebrate a promotion. It was a big order, but that didn't fluster the staff one bit. The food was beautiful! My fish was gorgeous and I want to go back to try more! Definitely visit if you can!

Visited yesterday for the first time, after hearing rave reviews. Excellent, fresh and tasty food. The fish was light and tender, chips great, however, ever so slightly salty. Well worth a walk from town and will definitely make the trip again. Most importantly, super friendly staff who immediately make you feel welcome - a real change to what you come to expect elsewhere.

Legendary, fish and chips like you imagine want and deserve, the Cod was proper cod with crispy batter, chips cooked in fresh oil and mushy peas that are spot on.
