Well maintained building on AJC Bose Road, with completely separated block for boys hostel... Separate entrances too. Simple amenities and super strict management, which also supervises study time, etc! Therefore, not for the extremely free birds, but very safe and sound, if convent-like disciplined life, thanks to the Sisters of a religious order who manage it.

One of the best and reputed hostels. The staff is good. Regular cleaning is done. Hostel timings are very strict. Food could be better. Bathrooms are quite clean.

Pros: Disciplined, secured. Cons: Food is horrible most of the days. Too many meaningless rules. There's a different set of rules for girls regarding what you can wear and what you cannot. Students' grievances are not considered at all.

St. Xavier's College is a private, co-educational higher education college located in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. Founded in 1860 by Fr. Henri Depelchin S.J., it is the second oldest of Jesuit Institutions in India (after St. Joseph's College, Tiruchirapalli) and is named after St. Francis Xavier, a Navarre Jesuit of the 16th century, who ministered in India. In 2006, it became the first autonomous college in West Bengal, India, and is affiliated to the University of Calcutta. Currently, the college offers undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, Ph.D.s, diplomas and certificates. It is one of India's most prestigious institutions and has the highest NAAC rating of any college in the country.

Lived here for 2 years in the in the early 80's when it used to be the Hindu Hostel for boys of St Xavier's. Used to be a charming old 2 storied building with a big football field at the back. Food and infrastructure was horrible of course, but there was a game room with a TT table and a carrom board. Discipline was non-existent.

Lived here for two years for my post graduate studies. Quality of food is degrading day by day. The authorities are crazy and not at all fit for the job. All they want is to make stupid rules. Never listen to girls' needs or improve anything. Only good things about this place are- security, good location and good environment for studying

This is the most disgusting and unhygienic hostel to ever exist. Where do I even begin: 1. The washrooms are absolutely disgusting. The floors are always flooded and stalls are never clean. The showers have fungus growing in them🤢 2. The rooms are so small, there is barely any space to walk, no cupboards, no ventilation and the WINDOW IS BLOCKED. The paint from the walls is chipping and it falls on us. 3. THE FOOD IS DISGUSTING AND UNHEALTHY. It is so oily and not nutritious at all. I have VOMITTED multiple times after eating the hostel food. There is no cutlery provided and everyone has to eat with their hands. 4. There are unnecessary rules about dressing such as no ripped jeans or skirts and shorts even if you're leaving the hostel. You cannot come out of your room without full pants. If you have colored hair they will make you dye it black. 5. The curfew is 5:30 pm???? College ends at 4:00 pm and it's a 30 minute walk from the college to the hostel. When is one supposed to do anything else? 6. Even being inside the hostel but outside your room isn't allowed after 6 pm. You cannot play carem or use the "gym" after 6. Nonsense rules. 7. The rules for girls and boys hostels are different. Boys are allowed to wear shorts and go outside the hostel between 8-9 after dinner, but girls are not. 8. The warden is biased towards Catholics and hates everyone else. She doesn't treat you with basic dignity and respect. She particularly hates Protestants. (Shoutout to sister christy) 9. The hostel is so small it's like a prison. No playground or canteen etc. You are meant to sit in your room and rott the entire evening and night. Even the rooftop is closed after 5 pm. 10. You cannot bring food to your room. If you order food from outside sister will say "you're not happy pls leave". Everything anyone does here is a problem for them. It is impossible to be a normal functioning happy person here. PLEASE DO NOT LIVE HERE !! I HAVE HAD THE WORST EXPERIENCE LIVING HERE AND I'M SO GLAD TO HAVE FINALLY LEFT. PS- I was not thrown out of the hostel, I got a better opportunity in delhi University. The hostel adm has replied to this by saying that I was "thrown out" ( 🤣🤣) to pacify themselves and called to a "free going girl" SXC hostel, I'm in a much better place where "free going girls" are encouraged. All the best 👍🏽

I have never stayed in this hostel but I was deeply disturbed by the admin responses to the reviews on this platform. I don't think the Bible or and other cultural scriptures have a dedicated section addressing topics such as "What should be the right length of clothes for women?" Or "How to cloth yourself to come accross as a cultured woman?" Moreover, I found responses where students have been asked to leave and live outside when they have tried expressing their discomfort regarding the amenities at the hostel. If such a prestigious institution cannot evolve with changing times and provide just and equitable opportunities for both men women and create a safe space for students to express their discomfort/opinions and think independently, then it really puts the pedagogy and the academic culture of the institution to question. While a hostel can have certain rules and regulations, handling responses to Google reviews is something that the college management should consider entrusting on more reliable hands, to one who has the maturity to address reviews in a amicable manner. I can understand that St Xavier's College has a legacy of its own and a distinguished list of college almumi, glorious enough for it to not have to care about it's brand image on such platforms. However a glorious past does not always promise a glorious future if delligience and consistency is not something that is given attention to in every step of the way.

😠 Pros. Location great, elevator, lockers, good WiFi. Cons. Employees are all completely unmotivated, self-absorbed, uncommitted, but with an arrogant attitude. 😠 Not as good as a private college should be. Girls Hostel and Boys hostel should be separated from one single campus. Food quality is good when a new batch comes and gradually decrease by the time.
