So one lazy morning decided to have some south indian breakfast and ordered Masala Dosa from " South Indian Coffee House". To my surprise they really offers some good Dosa with south indian touch and flavours. Served in Banana leaf with good blend of spices in Sambhar and Chutni. Taste is good and rate is reasonable. Delivered in time but charging extra money for packing with newspaper was not expected. Hope to order more. Best Wishes !!! :-)

I am going to this place since time immemorial. I have literally grown up on their dosas and idlis. It is a pure south indian restaurant cum grocery store. U get everything here belonging to southern India. I love their dosas and idlis. U can also try their filter coffee.

I tried their Dosa after almost 3-4 years. Taste is not as good as it was before. But it could be because I went there after 9pm. Will have to try again to be sure. Sambar and chutney wasn't tasty at all, but dosa was tasty with lots of stuffing.

Very Authentic south Indian taste and Portion was more than enough for 3 80kg-foodie-bengalis. Amazing quality and packaging. 1. The Paper Masala Dosa came with extra filling and without any disfiguration. 2. Vada-Idli combo was huge and came with complimentary sambhar-chutney. 3. Had Ordered 2 kinds of Uttapam, both came in different boxes and had an amazing piquance of fried onions and tomatoes. We didn't want to ruin the authenticity with cheese in any of these orders, but now the trust we have over this flavourful restaurant is amazing and I would DEFINITELY recommend y'all to try it. The cost effectiveness of the restaurant is unbelievable with the quality served. Thankyou For your Service South Indian Coffee House!

A secret south indian grocery shop also serving south indian snacks. Location is hidden and could not be easily traced. Close to Behala Panna sweet shop. Food is good here. Also try the coffee which is served in south indian style somewhat.

Probably the oldest South Indian eatery in behala that is still serving authentic taste South Indian food. the quality is not the same. The looks of the place is not at all impressive. They sell some South Indian packaged snacks like raw banana chips, murukku etc as well.

This eatery is in existence since I was a child, small room, simple table close by each other feels like eating in home with family even when one eats with strangers. My childhood nostalgia. Same quality, same taste, same intimate touch one gets from their service.

Hygiene is a big problem as tiny cockroaches keep roaming on the table and sometimes inside the plate and food. It is hard to make such a bad sambar, it is basically rasam mixed with water, white chutney which is basically raw besan and urad powder mixed in water and salt, watery coffee that too in different sized glass for different customers (no consistent quantity). They often have serious issues with maintaining consistent quality control. Choose Asoka or Panna's south Indian or even any thela wala south Indian any day over this one.

It is Saterday's afternoon and I was thinking what would be mode of my transport to visit an old establishment at Taratala for certain urgent interaction. When I realised it is Saturday and congestion of traffic on my way would be less than weekdays ,I smartly pull out my Match City bicycle. Within 15 minutes I arrived at my destination and finished my job there. On my way back to Behala Municipal market I get down from my bicycle in front of Behala Police Station where a public meeting against implementation NRC and CCA etc with presence of considerable numbers of audiences was going on. The area is cordoned with several uniformed Police Officers as well as plain clothed police personnel. What has inspired me to stop there is the most impresssive speech of a gentleman aged about 85 years with sound knowledge of undivided India and post independent India. This sort of protest has become an all India issue nowadays and nobody could guess when it may end. After a short stay I left the place. It is almost 6.30 PM of evening when I feel the urge of one cup of coffee and keeping my Match City bicycle to an authorised vendor I went inside the South Indian cafee.

The environment is not good. Shop is very old and famous in the area but they have not maintained it properly. It is very hard to find the entrance of it for the first time and sitting is horrible. They provide Tools to sit there!! Food is not tat much good... It's just ok types... Prices are also same as other cafes. There is nothing special. And if its summer they you must carry 2 handkerchief with yourself..

Trust me when I say this, one of the best south indian food shop here in kolkata. Earlier my father used to bring dosas and vadas when we moved to kolkata several years back ,have been a fan since then. I love their filter coffee both hot and cold, egg masala dosa, sambar vada, paper dosa and their dahi vada is a must, must try. It's just in the lane of panna oil , sweets and kamdhenu and if you don't watch out ,u will be unable to find. Very small shop, you would find tons of south indian snacks too. They sell a small filter coffee sache of rs.2 each, which i find quite tasty..! Overall, if you are into old, authentic food joints then it's a must visit. They are in swiggy, zomato too.

South Indian Coffee House owns a special place in my heart. Almost 17/18 years ago I discovered this little Cafe-Shop situated at the the heart of Behala Tram Depot Market. At that point of time, I was a lonely teenager who used to go to this shop to have the best quality comfort south indian food in Behala. Last week when I went to the renovated new shop, the brothers(the owners) greeted me with the same smile and warmth. This place is very cozy, peaceful, comfortable. Food is sumptuous, healthy and still remained very pocket friendly. And Yes, You will find all kind of south indian masalas, chips, pickles at the shop. Last week I had, Onion Sada Dosa + Double Omlette + Coffee. It costed 150/-. Go and be there with your loved ones. Thank me later.

The Butter Masala Dosa and Cold Coffee were great. This is a nice small Malayali island in the Bengali sea. The servers are Bengali but many of the patrons are Malayali who get a lot of goods that are transported directly from Kerala.

They should immediately shut down this scrapyard. The food quality and taste was awful. If you are someone from Behala please avoid eating here instead visit or take delivery from the dosa shop near ashoka cinema hall.

One of the best south indian outlet in Behala , I am a drooling fan of their Butter paper plain dosa , what makes it even more mouth watering is the dulops of butter they put in it , and the chutney and sambar is beyond description. The coffee is also decent , but what clicks for me is the Dosa and the dahi wada especially garnished with cashews and raisins With some sev in it.

Authentic South Indian dishes at reasonable prices. One of the very few such food shops I could find in Behala. Convenient takeaway available. Recommended for Idlis, masala dosas, onion uttapams0

I ordered idli in the evening costing Rs.50 per plate of 2 idlis. Served quickly. But the taste was horrible. Sambar, chutney equally horrible. All of these appeared to be stale. Not fresh at all. I am an old customer of this eatery. The quality has gone down so much, I regret. I will think many times before visiting this place again.

Authentic and old south Indian restaurant with basic south Indian style seating and excellent food at pocket friendly price point near Bahala Tram Depot bus stand. Only downside is that the place is non AC and hence is hot in summers. Recommended for all.

The shabby lil corner gives u exactly what it was like in the 90s with the perfect authentic taste of South Indian cuisines... So if u r a 90s kid... It's a must go for u as it's not only a great place to have the Dosas , idlis and uthappams but also a joy ride of nostalgia❤️

  • 1/5 Rahul R. 3 years ago on Google
Ordered through swiggy. Uttapam was horrible, too much oil. Idli was rock solid. Sambar was like daal. Chutney was not fresh, old stuff and dry like almost powdery. Dosa was nothing special. I'm giving this review bcoz I've had food here since I was like 12yrs old almost 25yrs back. Quality is just not the same. I don't know if the owner is same or not. Moreover, I've grown up, worked, lived & still have friends from south india. I know the taste inside out. Owner of this restaurant, if you are reading this review, pls get the food reviewed from some 3rd party. It helps maintain business & retain customer base. Will again order after I meet the owner personally.
