Institut de Chandernagore, also known as Dupleix Palace, is one of the oldest museums of West Bengal. It boasts of a collection of rare French antiques, such as cannons used in the Anglo-French wars (popularly known as the Carnatic wars), personal belongings of French governor generals, and wooden furniture dating back to the 18th century, which are difficult to find anywhere else in the world. Exhibits include items used by Dupleix (the Governor General of French India), such as a marble bust of himself, and relics of the French colonial and local history of Chandannagar. Photography is prohibited , videography is also prohibited .

While writing on the Chandannagar Museum it is a problem of choice: Should one highlight the fact that the museum also houses the Institut De Chandannagore which offers regular French language classes or should one dwell on the fantastic museum that is located here. Well then lets put it this way: that along the river lies the beautiful Chandannagar Museum which was earlier the residence of the French Governor Dupleix whose personal collection is also on display along with a breathtaking rare collection of French, British artefacts’. It also has a small but formidable collection of antiquities from the Nawab rule. It is a must see for all visitors who will also complain that the museum maintenance is poor and perhaps something more can be done to augment the facilities.

One of the oldest museums of the region. It boasts a collection of French antiques (such as cannons used in Anglo-French war, wooden furniture of the 18th century, etc.) which are difficult to find anywhere else in the world. The institute still teaches Frenchthrough regular classes. This museum is closed in Thursday and Saturday. However, it is visible that there is lack of maintenance for this place. They need to maintain. Highly recommend for those, who have an interest for the past or history.

This museum was a French governor's resident around 300 year old house but still well maintained. If you are a history lover then it is a ideal place for you. You can found here many old things related to French government of Chandannagar. Also this is a ideal place for an educational tour from school. Overall this a must visiting place if you are in Chandannagar.

The artefacts of the French occupation are carefully preserved and viewable in this museum. The museum itself is housed in a beautiful heritage site on The Strand overlooking the river. The museum speaks a lot the history rich town of Chandannagore. It preserves ancient documents and other valuable assets of Portuguese era. Located on the Strand, it can be easily reached by car. View of Ganges from the entrance is beautiful.

First of all I love French songs, soprano, opera music, since 2015 I have stated visiting this place. Every year I go there, on January 1this year I went there too. That place attracts me so much. Not only the museum, the resident of former governor, I like, also the cleaned roads, heritage buildings. A well maintained place ever I have seen in West Bengal. A little piece of France remains here. And French cemetery is located by a lake. It’s called “ Gorosthan “ to Auto-Ricksha drivers. I was learning French language as well in basic level, nasal pronunciation makes this language so sweeter. French culture is an art. This place deserves 10 stars ⭐️.

It was the official building of French acquired Chandannagar. From here French rulers of Bengal provide their service to people in pre-freedom era. Now it is converted into a beautiful museum where you can found the total french revolution of Bengal and their lives. If you want to know Bengal as well as Chandannagar you've to visit this place once.

I can't express my feelings about the place in words. Just fabulous. You have to be here yourself in order to get the taste of the place. In the past it was the residential house of Governor general Dupleix. Afterwards it was considered as the house for future governor generals of France who were allotted in Chandannagar. After the independence of Chandannagar it was converted to Museum which still showcases the past and history of the area. Just visit yourself. Entry fees is also minimal (Rs. 5/- per person).

A lot of things to learn and watch from here. Some very rare old manuscripts, ancient coins, old paintings, historical evidence, things used by french officials, militery equipment of that era amd many more are kept there. The lawn of the he palace is gorgeously beautiful. All these are reserved by ASI.

Small slice of a French dream ! A must visit in Chandannagore, earlier the residence of the then French rulers facing the Hooghly river. It houses almost all of the important artifacts, documents, books, charters, & signs of the French empire. The backyard garden is also beautiful & open to the public for free.

The heritage of this city lives in its historical data and information. This museum is one of the place to restore those. The residents of Chandernagore (commonly ChandanNagar) feel pleased and blessed to live such historical importance.
