Originally was a jail in pre independence era known as Hijli Concentration Camp, was converted as the first IIT of India in 1950. Now converted to a museum, topics ranging from various fields of interest. Must watch a short flim on the history of the jail. Also will see an original fighter plane of Indian airforce and a steam locomotive engine.

There is so much to explore. So many scientific instruments, working models on which u can perform experiments... Everyone should visit it once, because acquiring knowledge and experiencing are different things... And experience by experiments is unmatchable..

What a pleasant place! Visiting this place is like going back in history. Even though it was a detention camp, it was only because of the vision of Nehru ji that this place spawned into a giant campus we know as IIT Kgp today, the mother of all IITs. The museum is brilliant, certainly a thousand times better than even the govt run science museums I've seen till date. Kgpians are lucky to be living in a campus of such scientific and historical importance. A must visit for every student and their parents who come here. I was lucky enough to visit the Kgp campus in this lifetime.

A small science museum for children. Lovely building. It's in place of the once-infamous Hijli Detention Camp where many freedom fighters had been held during the British rule.

It is one of the best museum according to my opinion. It contains good science related things and anyone can gain practical knowledge by the materials here. It is situated inside the IIT Kharagpur campus and at the old building near the last end of the academic campus. you will get some important and good experimental set ups of basic things in science. The museum is very well organized. There is Hijli jail near this museum. there are two sessions in the morning and evening session during which the museum remains open.
