Eden Gardens form part of the Maidan around Fort William. The land which was cleared of jungle by the British to create a defensive zone round the fort. Eden Gardens are named after Lord Auckland's sister. They are picturesque - and best known for the nearby cricket pitch. The design style is an Indian interpretation of the Victorian Mixed Style using tropical plants. It follows the design principles of the mixed style rather than its plan shapes.

You can have a great time here with friends or family. Enchanting green, calm and pleasant environment. The fish playing in the clear water, the birds chirping, instantly soothes the mind. You wouldn't think so close to Babu Ghat, a bustling area of Kolkata. The best time to visit here is in the afternoon. Entry fee is ₹20/person. Toilet facilities are available here.

A beautiful quite park that has generally stayed out of the mainstream "outing" discussions. It's well maintained, clean with lots of seating areas, greenery, lakes, swings, footbridges, mock-pagodas, etc. There's a lake where you can take a paddle boat around and it's quite fun and refreshing. Not that hard to maneuver either. The place is true to the pictures and is a definite must-go if you're in the vicinity. Entry fees: 20 rupees Boating fee: 80 rupees for the whole boat for 30 mins. (At most 4 people can sit together)

These days there are more than dozen parks in Kolkata that serve as the favourite strolling area of the City's residents. Elliot Park, Citizen's Park, Eco Park are only to name a few of the biggies. There are also hundreds of smaller ones scattered around different neighbourhoods. But like many other things we owe the concept of parks too, to the Britishers. In those days, it was the height of gentility for the British East India Company's covenanted servants to take their spouses for an evening stroll or moonlight fete. Almost 300 years ago, the first of its kind Park in the then Calcutta was Captain Perin's Garden in Sutanuti area which was later developed into Bagbazar neighbourhood. The Garden was sold in around 1752 and post Plassey Battle, Laldighi or the Dalhousie Square was advanced and used as the public garden. Later on, two more parks were developed on the surrounding grounds of Fort William commonly known as 'Green before the Court'. Those are Eden Garden and Curzon Park. When we talk about Eden Garden, in 99% cases we refer to the internationally famous Cricket Stadium but what we ignore is the fact that the Stadium owes its name to the adjacent park, the brainchild of Lord Auckland, Governor General of India during 1836-42.

Eclipsed by the world-famous cricket stadium next to it, Eden Gardens (Park) precedes it. Once built by the Britishers and named after the Eden sisters, it is still a beautifully maintained park. We crashed there in pouring rain, and our experience was ethereal. There are boating facilities available here - paddle boats, mostly. The pagoda, the central attraction of the park stands out on it's own. Built in Burma and shipped in parts and re-assembled here in 1858, it still maintains it's vibrant colours and unique style.

Intended to visit this for long. Adult entry ticket is Rs 20 per head, for children, the lady at the gate fully waived it off on her own. Took my car inside for parking for Rs 50. We got proper electronic receipts for both entry and car parking. The pagoda and its surroundings are exquisite! Pause and savour the experience. It's around 150 years old. Boating facilities are available. We didn't opt for it though. But there was a lady issuing proper receipts again. The West Bengal Forest department nursery should be explored. Take lots of photos and just chill. Lots of vacant spaces for children to run about.

Nice park, peaceful place. Couple friendly or family park. The ticket price is only 20 rupees, I think it's a reasonable price for this garden. Its location is also good if you are coming from howrah, you need to come 'babu ghat' by ferry then 10 minutes walking distance, The nearby railway station is Eden garden and nearby metro station is Esplanade.

A great place to enjoy a short visit, with family, friends and loved ones. Calm, pollution free environment around the space, soothing green all around, it refreshes mind and brain at a glance. There are few spots that attracts selfie and photography loving people. The Burmese pagoda and the Burmese atmosphere surrounding it make us think of coming to that country, without any passport or flight!!!! Also near to babu ghat bus stand, access to every place is another facility. Moreover a small picnic can took place as there is still no restriction. The maintenance is a big issue about this place, after the umpun attack.

It's a great place to chill in Kolkata near Eden gardens. It's like a patch of green in a desert. There is a pagoda inside this park which the Britishers literally brought here from Barma. A small water body with boating facilities available here. A food court and a nursery available here. And a lot of greenery. It's like a painting that's all I can say

A good option to spend a winter afternoon with some greenery. This place has a potential attraction. A Pagoda was brought here during the Raj far from Burma or modern day Myanmar. It also houses a small cactus garden. There are boating options available here too in a roundabout pool.

EDEN GARDEN PARK Eden Garden Park is located on BBD Bagh in Kolkata. It is a beautiful promenade which is present along the river and is perfect for a peaceful stroll. Usually the term Eden Garden makes everyone think about the internationally famous stadium in Kolkata “Eden Garden Stadium”. The reality in fact is that the stadium owes its name to the garden that lies right opposite to it. The park is spread over 50 acres of land and has a variety of plants and trees in it. It also has a fountain and a band stand inside. It is one of the oldest gardens in the city which is still very well maintained. George Eden, who is better known as Lord Auckland, was the first Earl of Auckland and served as the governor general of India from 1836 to 1842. He came to India along with his two sisters Emily and Fanny. Calcutta being the capital at that time, the sisters stayed with Lord Auckland at his residence there. Emily was an amateur artist and a curious learner who wanted to know more about the Indian Subcontinent. For this she met with many prominent individuals and also wrote about the same. She had a keen interest, liking and love for gardens, and it was during their stay that Lord Auckland started the initiative for forming the Eden Gardens. This led to the sisters being given the task of supervising the layout of the promenade for the city at the time. Captain Fitzgerald, the chief architect executed the project. One of the most famous attractions of the garden is the Burmese Pagoda (temple with multiple tired towers). It is situated on the north side of the park and is on an island which is surrounded by a water body. This structure was built in Prome, Burma in 1852 by the widow of the Governor of Prome. It took three months to complete and has an image of Buddha with a precious stone encrusted on the forehead. The structure had intricate and animated carvings on wood of mythical birds, haunches of wild ox, and other figures. In 1853, when the British took over Prome, Lord Auckland decided to take the Pagoda back to Calcutta as he was awe struck by the structure. It was dismantled and taken to Calcutta. It took a total of three months to be re-erected in the garden. The Garden is currently maintained by the Forest Department and is very well maintained. It is a peaceful place to sit at and spend some leisure time while enjoying some good street food that is sold outside.

This is an totally unexplored and not so known park in kolkata. 7mins walk from eden garden station. At the very foot step you put in the park, you will see the MAINTAINED GARDEN which looks way too beautiful. Once you walk through the park a more, you will get too see the thai temple which has its own history and was brought here from Burma/Myanmar. It's kind of unexpected to see something here in kolkata though it's not too big. But this park needs public attention. Entry fee 20 INR/ 0.26 $

This park which is maintained by KMDA is sandwiched between Eden garden stadium and Babughat bus stand. Although once it was a glittering sign in British Calcutta now it has passed it's golden days. The Pagoda which is the main attraction is in dire state. The garden is curated well but there are litters in the water body. The entry fee is 10 rupees per person.

Beautiful park maintained by urban recreation forestry division, forest department of West Bengal government. Situated just beside the Eden Gardens cricket stadium, nearest railway station Eden Gardens and bus stop Babughat. A must visit place for bird watching or nature lovers. There is a orchid house and a cactus house inside the park premises. Earlier there was no entry fee for the park, but now Rs.20 is charged as entry fee/conservancy charge. Also, for camera photography they charge Rs.80 per hour.

Very nice place 4 a small picnic in winter. Good security n that's why its more of family park rather than romeo's den . Not very crowded as not many people visit. Little better maintenance of the vicinity will be appreciated.

A beautiful park to spend time with your friends and family. It has boat riding, childrens park and a food plaza too. But it needs a bit of maintenance, there was no water in the tap. The toilets were dirty and the basins were broken, not a single drop of water was in the tap. You have to buy packaged drinking water from the food plaza.
