Located at No.19, Chittaranjan Ave, near Chandi Chowk, Esplanade, Chowringhee North, Bow Barracks, Kolkata, West Bengal 700072, Anand Veg restuarant is a South Indian cuisine restaurant. Besides the typical south Indian menu of idli, vada and dosas, you can also order chole bhature, pao bhaji, raj kachori with pizzas, shakes, floats, and juices. Good food and good ambience make this place worth a visit.

One of my favorite places for South Indian food. Anand is a very old restaurant, I have been visiting it for more than 15 years now. The have maintained their food quality and service to be very good year after year. This is a very safe option if you want to try South Indian food, you can never go wrong with Anand. The chutney served here is one of the best I ever had. The food here is served fresh and made to order. A great place for friends, family and colleagues.

Classic South Indian menu, a few newer items too. Long time favorite of Calcuttans, some swear they serve the best coconut chutney in the city. Tutti Frutti Special serves 2 very well. Mixed uttapam with cheese is a highlight. Good attentive service

So we had gone for buying electronic parts for a project and near the E mall we saw this place and went. It was a very pleasant surprise. Venue/Ambiance 5/5 the dΓ©cor is nice and gives a proper homely South Indian feel with the tables, paintings, masks and the plants. Music 3/5 There was mostly Bengali music playing... it was alright but was not audible during conversation. Main course: 5/5 So we ordered Masala Dosa [a must to have and lots of varieties], fried idly, poori …. It was really nice and felt authentic South Indian food. The coconut chutney was amazing with the right consistency and Tadka. Sambar was also good and comes with everything. The fried idly was very crunchy and soft in the middle. The poori was nice and the accompanying mix veg. was also well made Dessert 5/5 We ordered two Jack the ripper, [must try]…. amazing combination of sweet and bitter with ice-cream, fruits, honey … just simply amazing. So this is by far the best South Indian I have had in Kolkata so far and was very affordable as well. It felt like I was back home... definately returning back for more

Worth for every penny charged for. Staff needs to be trained properly. Lack of customer interaction as it's very old restaurant and a famous one. South Indian food is a must to order whenever you are visiting this place. And yes perfect for family meals.

I just love the south indian food and the ambience. If you are pure veg and in search for some place where you can just park yourself from the sweltering heat of new market this is the place. But don't order the north indian chaats or dishes as they won't be upto the mark. The Traffic Jam sundae is worth trying.

We visited Anand today but the experience is very poor. The food quality as well as the ambience is not the same as before. We are very disappointed with the experience. We ate in Anand lots of time earlier but now a days we think the same management is not there.

Probably the best high class south Indian restaurant in Kolkata. There are some other great options for South Indian food too but it's not very suitable for family.the ambience and seating is good and place is clean. Dosa here is always crispy and very tasty. And their special tutti fruity is a must try. The only downside is that it's kinda pretty expensive if you check other south Indian food joints. But then again if you're the best you can charge for it. Very crowded on weekends. South Indian food lovers you cannot miss this.

One of oldest South Indian restaurants in Kolkata... And to know how popular it is go anyday during lunch time...you might have to wait for a while to get a seat... We went here to have some light lunch...however we ended up having a Lil more than we could... Dosas were large and filling... There was something about the taste that kept me tempting another one... We also idli-vada and mixed uttapam... It's definitely a must visit... Pocket pinch is moderate...

I really liked Anand Veg restaurant. We ordered Chole bhatore which cost β‚Ή128. And same price for Pav bhaji. Nice place for lunch. The ambience is also good. The only problem is their service. Once you order it takes a lot of time for them to bring your order. It almost took them around 30 minutes to bring 3 plates chole bhatore. Except that perfect place, the food was really tasty and the ambience is also nice. No music.

One of the iconic vegetarian eatery in Chadni chowk area. Must try their dosa and ice cream. Tried them taste remains same. Highly disappointed with items like uttapam, pav bhaji and Raj kachori. Sorry to say Other eataries around esplanade area offer better taste. Service is excellent. Atmosphere is same like earlier days. However Not friendly for elderly/ physically disabled persons due to staircase.

I can keep coming to this place for any meal of the day at anytime. It's a nice cozy vegetarian place for food. Coffee is great here. And I like the vada also. But there is a long menu available for you to choose from. Main course and deserts are worth trying.

Anand Veg Restaurant is an Ok Restaurant to have food in case you are in a hurry or you want to travel somewhere. The dosa here was good but the chutney provided was too dense and it did not have a proper taste at all. The sambhar was of good quality I should say, at least better than other restaurants in this area. Also, the dosa had the right amount of stuffed potatoes inside it, which even made the Dosa better to eat. The Dosa, not to forget, was crisp and soft too. Coming to the other item which I tried here, Idly Sambhar, the Idly here was flat and it was not looking like Idly it was mostly like some sort of Idly has been punched and made flat so as to show the increased size of Idly. The sambhar here is provided only twice and it is not served thereafter. If you ask sambhar, ask them for the third time, they will charge you. So consume this keeping in mind.

Loved it. The dosa and the chola bhatura is so yumm that you will not get this type of dosa anywhere else. The shakes are not so good here. I loved the dosa here but the shake is not so good according to the price.

Quality and taste of the food is good although I tried simple butter masala dosa and filter coffee only which costed me around 200/-. Sambar and chutney were both nice. You cannot ask chutney twice while you have to pay 25/- extra on each shot afterwards . Samber you can ask twice or so. But ambience is bit disheartening. Dosa flakes and crushed tissues were scattered sporadically. Steel dish that i was served with was revolving on its axis (lol) and innumerable scratches on it due to repeated use.Service persons were bit lifeless and morosed but ok. Location is very convenient and on road near Chandni cowk metro gate 2, precisely oposite e-mall.

Had the tea, coffee, raj kachori, mix chaat and dosa. The dosa is not worth the price at all. I've stayed in South India had better dosa there at 7 times less the price and even in Kolkata and north indian place sat and had better dosa. The place has a damp smell and Ambience isn't worth it at all. The wood smell that has become damp is very uncomfortable while you are eating. I sat in the area below as the top floor wasn't operational. Wouldn't want to hear again. The chaat was okay, not great but definitely better than the dosa. Also tea and coffee is made out of a machine, not by the chef.

Very bad restaurant they don't have Ethics how to talk to customers, yes being a famous restaurant they think that they can do anything as they wish and if they don't respect there customers and treat them like they are not important for them, even this would not effect there restaurant image , this is the sad reality as we customers don't listen each other and unite together against such kind of misbehavior by these restaurants. Finally I would never visit this restaurant ever again and those who visit after reading this review they are same as them.

We took a take away for breakfast on a Sunday morning, of course the place was very crowded like usual but they did not take much time to give the order. I took plain Upma and Masala Dosa for home. They don't have any special chutney, and the taste of the food actually deteriorated from what we used to have earlier. Sambhar was bland, Upma did not have any salt, Dosa was still okay. The white coconut chutney was also tasteless. Previously this place was very famous for South Indian food, but would not recommend anymore.

Had heard a lot about this place , so made it a point to have a light lunch here the other day . Sada butter dosa and a cup of filter coffe were the only items I tried out . The sada dosa was brittle to the touch and tasted decent . The accompanying sambar and rasam were damn good . The filter coffee came in a ceramic cup and not in a metal glass as I was expecting . The coffe didn't impress me that much . The service could have been little faster . Have plans to explore few other dishes , if I find myself in that part of the city .
