Would love to talk about one of the #oldest & my one of my favourite #SouthIndian restaurant in the city today - talking about #MadrasRestaurant on #CRAvenue which was founded way back in 1939 - a simple restaurant where one has nothing else to talk about but the delicious & authentic food on offer at an unbelievably economical pricing even today.. Walked in here after ages a couple of days ago for lunch with #mom who was reminescing her quick #lunchdates out here with #dad in the late eighties where the bill used to touch 5 to 7 rupees max for a Masala Dosa & Idli - can you believe that 😀 This place is currently owned by a South Indian family who also owns the Udupi outlet across the road - the original South Indian owners who founded the restaurant are no more a part of the management these days.. This place always hustles and bustles with office crowd but now they are struggling to make ends meet unfortunately because of this Covid situation - let's hope another iconic joint doesn't shut down.. Please walk in and enjoy a meal whenever you are around.. In today's job hopping world - it's so enriching to find most of their staff working for more than 35 years at this same restaurant.. We enjoyed #GheeIdli (freshly made - melt in the mouth idlis), #MeduVada (the best & crispy yet soft vadas that I have tasted till date in the city - reminded me of my Mumbai days where I use to get this taste more frequently even from roadside vendors), #MasalaDosa & my favourite #GheeButterOnionSadaDosa - the #coconutchutney served with these delicacies is truly mind-blowing to say the least.. If you want south flavour really you will not get it here. Price is double. Just running with old age fame name. Not value for money. Ambience not so good even it's ac. Cleanliness is issue. Behaviour to me was fine , but heard many complains from others. Food taste is just ok ok. Can't strongly recommend or deny to recommend.

Fluppy and soft idli, most perfect to say delicious to eat. They serve it with a much more delicious coconut chatni which perfectly complements this delicacy. It also comes with a sambar added with a lots of veggies and black paper and black mustard. Personally that seemed to me a little bit incomplete due to the lack of drums sticks. They also serve dhosa, bara, utthapam and lots of more other items. Price is a bit moderate of 2 idli worth 60 rs. And serve unlimited chatni and samber. Worth try.

A bit of old age nostalgia mixed with authentic taste of south delicacies and amazingly courteous staffs this is how I would describe this place. This is AC restaurant having a bit old interior giving you hint of nostalgia that you yarn for so long! The taste of the food is very good and pocket friendly. Highly recommended if you are around Chandni Chowk/ central calcutta and want to have taste of south delicacies!

nostalgic place for authentic south indian cuisine. Have been visiting this restra since our childhood when my grandfather used to take us. So many memories with this restaurant.

Visited once. The south Indian dishes are very good. The Butter masala Dhosa is very good. The fried idle is different here. They fry the whole idle from the outside instead of shredding the idle and fry. Overall food quality is good. And it is cost efficient!

More or less resturant is hygenic & neat and clean. Stuff behaviour is good. Price is ok as per food quality. It's right for South Indian dishes. Family with kids can vist here without any hesitation. Position is very advantage.

This restaurant is situated opposite of E-Mall.An age old south indian delicacy with reasonable price. They have a huge menu of dosa, idli,uttapam; even Chinese cuisins. The dosa's are huge in size,but the quality could be a little bit better. Overall a good resturant.

It doesn't have good decor or anything but it has that old Kolkata vibes. I liked the food and the staff were courteous. We had Cheese onions masala dhosa(which I forgot to take pic of ), casa and fresh lime soda.

South Indian dishes are fine, but as per menu card many items are unavailable, they have to change menu card accordingly.

You will get authentic South Indian dishes here. I have been visitng this place since 2010. Very well manared staff.

An old restaurant serving delicious and sumptuous south indian delicacies. The location is beside the Chittaranjan Avenue, one just have to walk straight from the Chandni Chowk Metro Station. Their Dosa and Curd vada are must to be tried. Prices are affordable. The food is great both in terms of quality and quantity.
