Located at No. 26, Jawaharlal Nehru Rd, Near Indian Museum, Fire Brigade Head Quarter, New Market Area, Dharmatala, Taltala, Kolkata, West Bengal 700016, Zaranj was one of the most coveted destinations for North Western Frontier Cuisine. It continues to do regular business on signature platters of paneer tikka and machhli chaman. Try the Zaranji raan (rum-spiked whole roasted leg) and machhli Begum Bahar (bekti cooked in a tomato gravy flavoured with carom seeds), Hyderabadi gosht biryani and the sesame-studded murgh til tikka. This is not the place for the pocket conscious; prices are steep in comparison to most standalone restaurants in the city.

Ambiance is good. Staff are good. But main problem is quantity it us very less than normal resturants provides. Price is very high in comparison to the quantity. Quality is good but if you not get enough quantity of food what will you do with quality. Location is near Indian Museum. Ambiance was also Very nice

Superb Ambience. Courteous and helpful staffs. We ordered one murg biriyani and first we thought food was bit expensive but, then they provided green salad, raita, papad and gravy along with that biriyani so that was worthy. Biriyani was tasty as well and place was hygienic. Will go there again

At the snout of Sudder street connecting the Jawaharlal Nehru road sits this amazing restaurant. Fine dining. The prominence somewhat obscured by the pavement covered with dirty plastics of hawkers(oh! What will happen to this City of Joy). The ambience is quite Victorian with comfortable sitting. Dim lights and sets of 4-8. There is a fountain running and one has to mind the steps . It's multi stepped. There is fresh room inside. The stewards are old, well behaved and experienced, helping out in choosing the best dish. The food is delectable, hot and classical nawabi. Don't order at one go. The portion sizings are sumptuous and please order the bread - one at a time . They serve hot mouth watering dishes . Delightful overall experience. It may feel stiff on the pocket but it's not. Prefer a lunch out , as parking becomes cool and one can over eat to skip the dinner !!! Have fun guys . Right next to the Indian National Museum. Plan a visit there and eat lunch here . Happy times ......

Located near Indian Museum, Zaranj offers fine-dining North Indian cuisine. The ambience and atmosphere is wonderful — one of the best in the city, in my opinion. The food was up to the mark. The kebabs are especially worth mentioning, they were soft and grilled to perfection. Loved the naan, biriyani and the side dishes too. Staff were very helpful and courteous. The food presentation was pretty great as well. The price is a bit on the higher side, but the taste of the food quite compensated for it. Pocket pinch is about INR 2,500 for two people. A definite recommend if you are looking to try North Indian cuisine in a fine dining restaurant.

I went to Zaranj with my friends and to our surprise we found Zaranj amazing. The ambience was so good with soothing music playing in the background. Each and every food was so well cooked and delicious. The quality and quantity of the food totally complements the price. There is valet parking available so no need to be worried about parking.

We went in there for a team lunch. The location is amazing, and the ambience as well however, the food was not up to the mark. We all felt all the foods we we ordered, were to salty. Foods we ordered: fish kebab, mutton run,Rogan josh all way too salty.

The hariyali kebab and lacha paratha were amazing as ever - the best in the world. However, the dal makhani still remains a shadow of its former self - possibly due to a change in chef/ recipe 3-4 years back. The waiter was insanely rude - refusing to allow us to pay through the Swiggy app, and only after 5 minutes of haggling and when senior management intervened, we could make the payment. It is an absolute disgrace of a restaurant currently, nothing compared to something that used to be my favourite, and the best North Indian restaurant in town (and possibly the world). It is absolutely underserving of it's current price. This is coming from someone who has been visiting the restaurant for around 20 years now. For those looking to go here, I'd recommend going to Peshawari instead

Zaranj has seen better days. This used to be one of the finest fine-dine restaurants in town. Now it looks like, despite their three decade long legacy they are struggling to stay afloat. This reflects in poor maintenance of toilets, hiring lesser workforce, lack of quality control of food. You may visit this place to re-live your olden days. Nothing more.

one of the worst restaurants in Kolkata. the staff never has any information about the food available. once the order is placed , the restaurant informs the guests after 25 minutes that the items are unavailable. don't visit this restaurant. They charge huge amount and the service is worst. other restaurants have better service.

The place has a decent ambiance with savory food. Approximately 4-5min walking from park street metro. The service was good and some of my loved dish were murg shorba, jugalbandi seekh kabab and zaranji raan.

One of best restaurants in Calcutta- I have been visiting since early 90 s - food quality and service consistently excellent - my favourite is their lamb tilla kebab - miss the silver cutlery and plates though.

Zaranj at one point of time was one of the most premium restaurants in kolkata. You had to wait 7 days to get reservations. The food was eclectic , so was the ambience . Alas, standards have fallen a lot , while the food is still okay , the ambience doesn’t call for that stately feeling anymore . With the price point that it is at , patrons won’t frequent unless the experience is improved a bit !

The pineapple cooler was poor. The red wine sangria was just red wine served with fruits. Thats not how a sangria is made. If u cant make cocktails properly dont serve them at all instead of serving bad stuff cz we are still paying full price. The food was excellent!!

Had a wonderful experience dining in this restaurant. Very much well decored and food is too great and very much in taste. A must try are prawns and chicken dishes with bread. Good service but the pocket pinch will be a bit on the higher side than the Park Street area’s restaurants…. Highly recommended….

I have been visiting this restaurant since I was a child but the experience I am having in the last a few visit is really disastrous. Specially the last visit on 1 Jan(The first day of the year the date we never miss to go to Zaranj) was a real night mare we entered the restaurant and came to know that our booking for the table is not there whereas I booked the table on 29 Dec had a talk with ms sulekha who confirmed me that the table was booked. She had some other name written on her register whom she called and was informed that the group is not coming. She allotted the table to us As we sat on the table last long table and wanted to place order than we were told that the tandoor is not working and we cannot take any orders now. I was quite annoyed but the captain assured me that it will be repaired till then we can have drinks. So we ordered budwisor beer. After waiting for 10 min we were informed that it’s finished. So we had to order kingfisher instead. The salad and papad were served with green chutney. The green chutney had some smell in it we reported the caption several times but he did not change it. So we bunk it also. We ordered for tandoori Aloo and paneer tikka it was served after an hour and was still half cooked. It was too late to swap the restaurant so we ordered the signature dal and lachha parata off Zaranj. But to my surprise the dal was sour in taste when told to the captain he didn’t even bothered to recheck or change. Lastly to add up in the final we asked for some papad and we were told that the papad is also finished. We were really astonished to see papad being served on other table when we were leaving zaranj after paying the bill. Sorry to say but I think it will be our last visit to zaranj.

Disappointing for old timers but.... If you haven't already gone to Zaranj, you're missing a good fine dining experience! So you must go at least once. That said, if you went there closer to its opening (approx during 90's), you are in for a major disappointment now! Every aspect of this well known (now iconic) restaurant has gone down one notch since then. Here are my pros & cons: Pros: Good service, friendly staff, fine dining aspirations, great decor, food tastes above par. Cons: Not worth the high price, stuffy atmosphere, below par food quality (i.e. digestive quality versus price angle) but tasty (specials still good), incomplete fine dining experience overall - abrupt, inconsistent & needing more finesse.

Excellent place for fine dining. A little costly...but excellent food, service and ambience. Has an old world charm to it. Beware of the steps leading to the washroom though...unmindfully one might miss those...

The food was below average. The mutton bhuna was not what it should be..so salty that it was not edible...Paratha was hard....kulfi did not have faluda...total waste of the very high price that they charge.

Food quality and variety needs a huge improvement if we compare the price and quality of other restaurants nearby. The price is very steep, food quality is average. The menu lacks variety. The ambience is the only positive part.

Love the food. But a bit expensive. The money is worth paying because the taste of food, the staff behaviour is very good.

The Chinese is to die for, but few dishes in Indian I didn't quite like- lachhadar paratha, Subzee kadhaiwala to be precise.

Very Average experience. Service and Food was not at par plus the plates served were smelling bad. Only saving grace was the ambience. Expected much better 🙁

It's a old school highly recommendable choice. One who's new to Calcutta must definitely visit. If you see deeply, it's the contribution of the very old staff that's keeping everything intact. The fat managers are getting fatter because of those old hard working obedient souls.

Food is awesome, but service is equally pathetic. Waited for 30 mins to get seated, though there were vacant tables, and another 10 mins to get a glass of water. It took almost an hour to get food on table. But quality and portion of food is unmatched. Ordered Lamb biriyani and a bhetki item.

The place has deteriorated over years. We went for dinner after prior booking. After reaching restaurant, could not fine anyone to allot us table. We waited for 10mins. Manager was busy doing job of waiter, serving people, probably to make some tip. Half of portion was totally closed though it was Sunday eve, probably due to lack of footfall, staff.

Very limited North-Indian menu. But whatever they serve is awesome. Specially love their buttered aloo dum, dal makhni, and malai kofta. And pf course their famous laccha paratha. Perfect for a lunch in a nice cozy environment.

One of the most iconic North Indian restaurants of Kolkata. It is a tried and tested place with good ambience for families. The Kali dal of the restaurant is very famous. The only downside is the location, near Indian Museum where parking can be a chore. However valet is available on most days.

The worst experience ever, the following are to beware of or aware of: 1. Bad service 2. Attendant or waiter not aware of the availability of dishes after half an hour the waiter comes and says Tamatar dhania shorba not available. 3. Dirty utensil served to eat the food which I had to get changed. 4. The quality is below fine dining 5. I am giving this rating while seated here. I feel a roadside food stall can serve better. 6. This is going to be a last experience in this place and will also suggest people to think before you come to this place now. 7. The place has lost the charm that it had earlier. 8. Just one word i have now to describe this place that is ..... Awful.... Incase the management wants to clarify please revert shall be happy to answer back.

The mutton in non veg tandoori platter was not well done. Do try the dal makhni. Service was a little bit slow , can be rectified. Rest everything was perfect .

😐 Simply come here for the atmosphere and history. Nothing should be eaten here. Cold coffee was a letdown. It was cold water that had been sweetened with a pinch of coffee.
