Excellent food. They have their signature food items that are fantastic. Everything tastes the best. However, the price is on the higher side. The only thing to improve is the management. While the restaurant is super busy, you will need patience and time to get your food on the table. But, the overall experience will surely be worth it.

Food was so delicious. Even their regular dal tasted so amazing. Their fishes, curries, everything was so yummy. Ambience could be a little more hygienic and comfortable, service could be improved. But, food wise, it was absolutely super duper good!

While the food was exemplary in taste, very pocket friendly, the quantity could be said was a bit compromising and the service was very shabby. This is the original outlet of Kasturi, and hygiene wise, they could do better. Kasturi serves authentic Bengali food, but is quintessentially Bangladeshi in flavor, taste and atmosphere! In Kasturi restaurant, Dhaka captures a part of Kolkata right in the middle of bustling Esplanade area!

Looking for Bengali food near Esplanade?__ this is the one. Kasturi offers some fresh and quality Bengali food at moderate prices. This outlet is located around 15-20mins walk from Esplanade and also at a 10mins walk from Park street. Coming to food we tried their fish cutlets with mustard sauce (cutlets contained pure Bhetki fish) which costed around 180rs and were great. We also tried kochupata diye chingri (kasturi special and a highly recommend dish), polao and chicken duckbunglow (another recommended one). At last we tried their mocktails which was quite refreshing. However, this outlet having a limited capacity of seats offers a waiting area. The management of resturant is quite good.

Well I went there on my wife's suggestions. She wanted to have the food there out of the place's reputation. Well food is good not saying anything bad but it's not outstanding. Fish was just ordinary which any other restaurant will provide. I had expectations. But the food did not make me jump in joy that was missing. This restaurant is surviving on occasional good dishes and mainly on past reputation it has built over the years. Again I am saying it's good but not great. I expected great. Thanks

Great hospitality and food with authentic taste. The sitting arrangement and cutlery was too good. Desert was so good in taste. Meeting family friend are a great location.

The food was good, quality and taste was great but they dont have a lot of options when it comes to menu. the place is a bit congested. Sitting area had no space, tables were set up very closely. Lastly the food was damn expensive. Do not opt for this place if you want food with reasonable prices.

I went with the thaali option because ordering each item individually would have burnt a big hole in my wallet. And i can happily say that i don't regret it. The quality and quantity of the food in the thaalis was quite good, and the price was very affordable.

They basically serve various types of Bangladeshi Dishes. Food quality is super. But one thing i did not like the qualtity, it is very very much less . Specially for rice items . Even the rice quantity is not enough for an adult person. They serve chickn and mutton items in 3 piece each plate. So if you want to share one plate in two you can't. Atmosphere is decent.

Being a Bengali myself, I tend to avoid restaurants which serve Bengali food. The logic is that we usually eat this or even better at home. Today, I affirmed my beliefs when I went to Kasturi. The Jumbo Prawn Malai curry was a betrayal. The Malai Curry was bland and the piece of prawn only was Jumbo in size, not in taste. We ordered thali and everything on the side was a miss. The kochu chingri side dish was trash and the sobji was mid. The only thing that saved my meal was the Bhetki Paturi which was the only saving grace. You know it's bad when the thing I liked the most is the Mishti doi in the whole meal. Service? The waiters just looked at our faces when we tried to make an order. I understand when restaurants take time to serve your order but at least take my damn order?? They did so after we complained but even then the service was trash. If you wanna try this place once, sure. Go ahead. If you are a Bengali, "ghore ja banye che, ota ei khe ney". I'm definitely not coming back. [The food is still making me sick, What a waste of ₹1600]

15.12.23 This is my fourth visit to kasturi and I'm utterly disappointed. I used to recommend this place to everyone. I myself loved to visit this place. But this time I couldn't be more upset with the experience. Firstly, we had wait too long to order. Somebody came and asked what we want to order then said no that is not my department. They were talking and chatting with each other but not paying any heed to us. Secondly, their food, I have no words... the papar(crackers) had something dangling from them like hair or something like that and we noticed it after we had 2 or three pieces. Totally spoiled the mood. The salad was not washed. You could see black spots on them. Couldn't eat the salad either. The mutton! Worst of all.. did not cook properly. They give you two pieces of meat and one was fine and another couldn't be torn even with teeth. Then comes the quantity.. earlier (three to five months back)they used to give a bigger bowl of rice, and pulao but this time it was like really less. Usually we can share the Maharaja Thali but this time we had to order more rice which we had to pay for, last time they did not charge for it. It was really disappointing to see such degradation. I felt like I totally wasted the money. Here I am keeping my old review too. Just so you can understand the difference. When I say that I did not feel like I was eating outside... I mean it... the food was so good... we ordered a Maharaja Thaali( bhaat, sona mug daal, alu vaja, salad, kachupata chingri, bhetki paturi, polao, mutton kosha, chatni, papor, misti doi it costs 764 but including the GST and water bottle it was 822) and it was just fantastic. The size of the paturi was big enough for two people to share. And each and every dish tastes like home. There are many restaurants that serves bengali cuisine..but they make it feel like home. We needed some extra rice and they give you that complimentary... but funny fact that the water bottle was not complimentary..they charge you for that... but it's ok when they provide you such service. The waiters were the nicest. I have been to many restaurants but by far this is my favourite bengali restaurants. And we were lucky enough that we didn't have to wait to get a seat. While we were eating there were people waiting outside.. wven though it was a regular day like no occasion. This could be the only problem here that they are always very busy so you might need to wait a bit before you get a table... I surely recommend this place to every foodie out there or people who like bengali food..

We as a group of four, had ordered -lemon fish fry: decent enough -Kochupata chingribata: was tasty -basanti polao: had a DEAD COCKROACH cooked with it attached picture -paneer methi malai: decently okay - also ordered a bhetki paturi which never arrived!! Service was very very poor, we had to ask 5 times just for a spoon. Extremely unprofessional behaviour. While we were ordering our food, the waiter was more interested to receive his tea. When we saw the dead cockroach on the food, we were terrified, the waiter kindly told us that we would not have to pay for half of the things that we ate and that we should keep our mouths shut! We did not want to create a ruckus. But we were very disheartened by the service quality and the kind of attitude. Will not recommend to anybody.

I had ordered chicken kosha and plain rice from Kasturi. Loved the richness and texture of the gravy, the chicken piece was quite big and juicy to its core. The aroma and the color were truly captivating and captured the perfect flavour of a Bengali dish. Loved it!

Great variety of Bengali dishes! I visited 4 times during my stay in Kolkata I found this to be the best place to sample a huge amount of local food! The staff spoke English. I especially recommend the banana blossom curry, the eggplant in yoghurt curry sauce and their famous chingri pathiri. Also, the staff should not really emphasize that service charge is not included as if begging for a tip 😏 A five-star place nonetheless.

It is one of the famous restaurants in Kolkata when it comes to authentic Bengali cuisine. Recently my friends hosted my Aiburovat there. They ordered vetki paturi mahavoj thali for me. There was Rice, Pulao, Dal, jhuri ALU vaja, Lau chingri, vetki paturi, Mutton, chatni, papad, misti doi and salad. The quantity of Rice and Pulao both were abundant. I liked the taste of the pulao, it was balanced not the regular extra sweet one types. I loved the taste of the lau chingri. That exhibited precision in the art of cooking. The vetki paturi was made with fresh fish and the size of the piece was really good as well as the whole preparation. Moving to the mutton, the slow-cooking technique employed was evident in the breakdown of collagen fibers in the mutton. This meticulous process allowed for the infusion of spices, creating a complex flavor profile and a tender texture. Chatni was an okay type but there was something wrong with the papads. It seemed that those were not well fried. I enjoyed the misti doi also. Overall the thali was more than enough for one person. One thing that was less average was the straberry lassi. It was extremely sweet and tasted awful. The ambience of the restaurant was pretty good but a bit congested. The service was great they even allowed us to sit and wait for almost 1 hour for one of my friends. But remember one thing they don't offer any special arrangements of any occasion. They also serve mini and medium thalis.

Wonderful restaurant for bengali food. Mostly busy in Lunch and Dinner hours. But waiting is worth it !!! You must try “Vetki Macher Paturi”. It’s delicious. In desert, Gulapjamun was mouthwatering!!

Famous for traditional bengali cuisine situated in park street. The ambience is very good, also the hospitality of the staff quite professional. The vorta , paturi items are a must try here. They also offer take out. Along with a la carte one can also get different types thali combinations. Although the price is a bit on the higher side but given the quality it is reasonable.

A very humble setup, though it has many branches across Kolkata. I guess the focus is purely on food rather than the ambience. Extremely busy even for a weekday lunch (we had to wait for a table). The funny part is to get a table where you have to stand near it once the occupants are almost done eating but are yet to vacate it. Now coming to the food, it's a thorough delight. They do have a menu card. Once you are settled at a table and plates are laid, the waiter brings a tray full of freshly cooked dishes where you see and smell a dish to order. They also have day special menu that has to be asked for. Suggestion: it's good to tip the waiter right at the beginning as then you will get proper attention 😉

The service is going down literally. The place is jam packed on weekends but the management is not upto the mark. There's no menu card the waiter comes with side dishes on a big tray and you've to pick from there. No rates are mentioned at the end the cash memo comes. Secondly we had to ask for the cutlery several times. Moreover, you've to wait for the waiter to address you. Coming to their food, it's tasty they have maintained their quality of course. But this Marquis Street outlet needs to improve their service.

This shop has a variety of dishes to meet the wants of a foodie meanwhile also serving regular food from a wide array of choices. Famous among locals and tourists this is not a place for people who can't handle crowds, with 70%-80% occupancy during rush hours and meal times. Festival times see crowds unimaginable. Seating is good, and well arranged, clean restrooms and washrooms available, reception desks available, not recommended for vegans, non wheelchair accessible, no wheelchair accessible parking, or any parking in that case, provided. Prices are moderate, food is fresh, local produce is used, information is shared when asked about each dish, dessert available. All modes of payment accepted.

Absolutely pathetic experience. I went their after reading the reviews, but finally it seems like most of the review's may be paid reviews or else from people who want to go with the flow and follow a herd mentality. Ambience is not that good but it's secondary. The most important thing is, they are in hospitality industry, but have absolutely no understanding of hospitality. Right from the time, a customer enters the place, no one cares. Seems like they have done a favour to the customer, to let them inside their restaurant. Absolutely rude and inattentive staff. They behave like they might be running the Prime Minister's office. Neither the waiters, nor the mangers or seniors are attentive. No one cares when a customer comes, no one bothers to even attend a customer. No one bothers to give the menu or even water Even after asking multiple waiters and managers and so called senior staff. No one even bothered to acknowledge and seemed to, not care what we were speaking. After waiting for a good 20-25minutes and asking for the menu and water, to multiple people, welfinally left the place,.. Never to return ever. And will make sure to give this same review on all platforms and sires. Will make sure that all my friends, family and relatives are made aware of their behaviour and that no one should bother visiting this snobby place who are thriving on false reviews and old time .

It is a very old restaurant selling traditional Bengali dishes. There is a facelift within the outlet to give it a modern ambience. But the staff is not courteous. Most of the menu as mentioned within the offerings remain absent. More steps are needed to maintain the hygiene within the outlet.

Lovely place to have Dhakai Cuisine food. There is a lot of difference between the tast of Indian Bengali cuisine and Bangladesh Bengali cuisine. I had been there just for a small gulp but ended up eating almost twice of what I usually eat. Don't go with he expectation of spik n span restaurant with English speaking service staff and stuff like that. Only thing which one should have in mind is the gastronomical extravaganza which you will experience here. Food is out of world and for the first time I experienced its very light on your tummy. One can eat lots and yet not feel full. Friendly staff. Washrooms I think is something they should work on immediately
