If you think South Indian food means only dosa, idli, bada, sambar etc.. you should try this place. I loved their prawn dishes especially the Malabar prawn, No one wanted to eat chicken after that 😂. Though I expected the food would be spicy, surprisingly everything was very subtle and delicious. We went there during Durga Puja, so we had to wait a little more than 30mins, which was completely okay during Puja. They took some extra time to serve the food too... but service was great. Worth the money.

Just opposite to Deshapriya park. Food was just average. But cost wise it was expensive and not justifiable. Excellent service and ambiance. Visible in normal traffic. Not too crowded during my visit.

Too much rush, staff couldn't handle this huge inflow, food was not worth the price, online reservations are not accepted. Veg stew was not good, mutton pepper was good, chicken 65 was very mich oily and no taste. Overall not a great pkace to enjoy your food. Not many options in vegetarian. Dessert prices are high and not recommended.

Located at 177, Sarat Bose Road Opp. DKS, Deshapriya Park W, Kolkata, West Bengal 700026, Tamarind is a South Indian restaurant. The setting here is distinctly southern, complete with vintage wooden furniture, ornate Chettinad pillars, dazzling Tanjore paintings and specially commissioned oil paintings. The chief draws here are the Kerala-style chilli crab and meen moilee, fiery Andhra specialties such as kodi vepudu and royalla eguru (prawn curry), popular favourites such as Chettinad chicken and Coorg chicken, the Andhra style Veinchina Mamsam or the lighter Malabar chicken curry paired with flaky Malabar parathas or soft appam. The place is popular for their non-vegetarian options, but the menu packs in fantastic vegetarian options such as avial and bagara baigan. Every meal is accompanied by unlimited tumblers of spiced buttermilk and with paan served at the end.

I visited 'Tamarind' on Durgapuja this year, at midnight. We didn't expect the food to be so good at that time of night. All the dishes were delicious. I highly recommend their mutton biriyani.

Situated opposite to deshapriya park at a walking distance of 8-10minute from kalighat metro station. We went there for lunch, when we arrived it was fully packed. We had to wait for 20minutes to get a table. The ambience was nice and cozy. Coming to the food we ordered chicken 65 as starter;and for main course we ordered Kashmiri pulao, hyderabadi chicken biriyani, chicken lababdar, chicken chittinad, and butter nun. Service was really slow,we had to wait for anaother 20 minutes to get the food.Kashmiri pulao was very sweet, and didn't like the taste of chicken chittinad, rest all were good. They accept cash, UPI and card .

Tamarind has been serving South Indian delicacies to the people of kolkata over 20years. Tamarind is the first ever resturant to have introducted delicious South Indian Non Vegitarian dishes. 📌Welcome Drink • Butter Milk • Vasant Neer 📌Starters • Coorg Chicken • Dakshin Yera • Fish Porichatu (Bhetki) • Kodi Sukkah 📌Main Course • Appam • Mutton Stew • Malabar Paratha • Chicken Chettinad • Coriander Rice • Ambat Dal • Peethala Koda • Double Ka Meetha The food was amazing and Vasant Neer is a must try drink it is super refreshing. Food was good but not satisfied with the quantity. We ordered both mutton and chicken biryani with some side dishes. All the items we had were not in adequate quantity according to its price . Even though we all know Kolkata's biryani is all about that "ALOO" but unfortunately they don't serve that thing here in biryani.

Location: On Sarat Bose Road, just opposite to Deshapriya Park. Ambience: Typical South-Indian decor, simple yet gives a warm feeling, nice lighting, tables have good space between them so privacy is maintained. Service: Very prompt and helpful, attentive. Ordered: * Mutton Alisa Soup: nice creamy texture, has good amount of shredded mutton pieces, topped with beresta, excellent taste. Rs 175 * Bhetki Porichadu: starter, 5 pieces of bhetki with a thin coating, medium spicy, good taste. Rs 500 * Elaneer Payasam: thin strips of coconut in coconut milk, not too sweet, very good. Rs 175 Overall, excellent food, average prices. Highly recommended!

Nice decoration, good ambience and hygiene factors well taken care of during the pandemic situation. I wasn't too thrilled with the food experience and found it to be average due to couple of reasons. 1. We ordered Fish Amritsari but we were served Fish Ajwaini Tikka. 2. The lamb that they serve is aged and hence is hard and smells lamb, which isn't the greatest thing for a mutton item. We ordered Mutton Bhuna Gosht. Same problem with the mutton in their Biryani. 3. We ordered Gosht Biryani where I expected it to be more authentic North Indian biryani but it was more like masala biryani which is prevalent in South of India. And the hard, smelly mutton. We also ordered Onion Chilli Cheese Kulcha which were quite good and tasty. And the best item for us was the Murg Malai Kebab. So juicy and delicious. It was awesome. Now the negatives: 1. They lack attentiveness. I had to make efforts to get attention to request for some water couple of times. I understand they could be understaffed due to this pandemic but service is one area which cannot be compromised on. 2. No waste plate provided. 3. Contactless dining feature isn't working. 4. They denied accepting payment through Zomato Gold. The waiter and the manager reasoned that Zomato haven't set them up to accept payment through Zomato app, which didn't sound at all convincing to me. Hence I cross-checked this information with Zomato later and found the restaurant just made a poor excuse. I had to pay using my card. I hope Zomato doesn't partner with such restaurants which do not cooperate with Gold customers. This is a real downside for Gold users. Please beware. Overall, the experience was average where it could have been a lot better if their service and customer handling was professional. Date of visit: 09/08/2020

The interiors are nice, pocket friendly little restaurant. The food is good, the sheekh kebabs are some of the best you can have in town. The South Indian part of the menu still needs some brush up. A good experience overall.

The food we ordered there was Chicken biriyani, chicken labandaar and tandoori roti.. So, firstly about chicken biriyani.. It was good, they add barista on the top and there was 3 boneless chicken pcs on it, no potato or egg..!! But it was very tasty, and biriyani includes a raita which was nice as well.. Now chicken lababdar, it was so so, i personally didnt like it too much, but it had 5 pcs of chicken and those are soft and eatable. Now the ambience, its nice. Staffs were all masked. But there was no sanitisation process going on. Food : 3/5 Ambience: 4/5 Sanitisation process : 2/5

This is the first South Indian non-veg restaurant we visited in Kolkata. Lovely ambiance, friendly service and good soul satisfying food. We never tried their north Indian food though. When there were not many non-veg south Indian restaurants in the city, this used to be our savior. The food today is equally good. The only thing we miss is their detailed menu book with the description of the dishes and the name of the states from where the dish originated. Now they have a simple menu card and it's a bit difficult to understand some of the dishes just by reading their names.

We ordered for kodu suka and chicken tikka. The kodu suka was good, but tasted a little salt less. Apart from the salt, the chef did a good job at capturing the South Indian flavour. The chicken tikka on the other hand didn't quite met our expectations. It was cooked well but didn't taste very good and a little runny. And the coriander chutney seemed a bit stale. Quite highly priced, the food didn't quite meet our expectations. The ambience was good. Restaurant was very well maintained and clean. They even host parties for around 20-25 people.

Food was good, location was good, only because of one thing am giving them 2 actually not I will give them 1 star because they lied to us, yesterday I visited with my family we ordered for salad with other things but in green salad cucumber was completely rotten kind of so we asked for giving another salad, they came to us and said they don't have cucumber ,instead of cucumber they try to provide us carrot we said ok fine, then cancel one item (salad) after few minutes we saw they providing another person green salad including Cumberland which is very very very wrong. You can't lied to your customers

Good food equals good times. Tamarind proves this. I really loved the food here. The ambiance is beautiful. The staffs are polite and the service is quick. Do visit this place with your family and friends for some amazing south indian cuisine that stay true to the roots. There is nothing to hate here except maybe for the lack of space. Located just beside Deshopriya Park this place is a must visit.

This was my first visit to the restaurant & since covid has affected the hotel industry so they have tried to open and have limited menu at the moment. I will have to review again once we are back in normal life. 1s - Interior done very well, even though 25% space was opened. 2nd - Staff was excellently courteous wnd polite. 3rd - Food was very good, I can't comment much as the menu had limited options, but whatever they had was amazing. Special thanks to the Chef as he gave me a complimentary Malabar Paratha as per my request. Thank you guys.

One of my favorites in Kolkata. Never has Tamarind disappointed me. My recommendations are Coorg Chicken and Betki Rawa Fry for starters, Malabar Chicken and Appam for Main course and Elaneer Payasam as dessert.

My wife and I visited the place on 10th September for lunch. The place was empty except for another couple so social distancing was not a problem. We had our favourite dishes of Malabar prawn and mutton Stew. It seemed to us that the standard of the dishes have gone down somewhat since we were last there 4-5 years back. Though they were as tasty as before the prawn was overcooked and mutton was very fibrous. That's why I have given it 3-star only. I'll have to go again and try their Coorgi dishes and maybe I'll give it a better rating.

Went there for onam sadya. Being a malayali I didn't find the items to be as delicious as the Kerala cuisine should be. Tried out their malabar porotta too which wasn't flaky and soft.

I have been craving for some good South Indian food, and Tamarind was on top of my mind. Having visited this place a long time back, i knew they serve some amazing food. We started off with a Tomato Rasam, moved on to the classic Chicken 65 and Mutton Sukka, and on the main course, we ordered in Malabar Porota, Appam, Bisi Bele Huli Anna and Chicken Chettinad. Needless to say, the food didn't disappoint. Would come back again without any doubt!
