East India Room

Restaurant

👍👍 Great service and fantastic food. Enjoyed the best pantheras I’ve ever had, tasted the chicken tetrazzini….delish. And tried the thali (can’t remember what it’s called)…all so so good. The chef is very approachable and the staff are trained well. People often mention good, ambience, experience, service, visit, nice, restaurant, delicious, taste, mutton,

I had a good experience there. Food service and ambience is so good. It was late evening and there was some delicious food over there. You can also stay there. The decorations are so clean and classy, peaceful. I loved it so much.

Fine dining, extraordinary service and decor. Heritage setting to the max. A fitting place for a farewell lunch before heading to the Netaji airport. Unforgettable flavors, classic Bengali techniques and dishes. Smoked bhetki starter is a must try. An experience worth remembering forever

Soak into the colonial hangover once more in style. The menu is a curated one hence not too lengthy...just selected items...the main course items have common bengali delicacies but I gave them a pass I wanted to taste something unique so selected the darjeeling tea tossed beckti fillet and loved it. The jali mutton kebab is just about Ok..quality of lamb is good. Prices are around 650 plus...I would recommend having a cup of tea here...nicely presented on a wooden tray with a glass tea pot,cup and whole arrangement was a complete feel good. Desserts include monte carlo, caramel custard, misti doi, rosogolla, ice cream if you like. There is a selection of alcohol available ask gor it separately. This space would sit around 40 people. Shout out to the staff coutesy...appreciate it. I really wish for a nice chicken omlet, toasts and pancake in the menu please if possible!

Such a lovely place to have lunch. This place is resplendent with the vibe of a bygone "bonedi" era in Calcutta. The hotel has a huge space right in the middle with trees around it. The restaurant itself gives an amazing experience of the Bengali platter. The chingri macher malai kari and mutton (so-good-that-the-meat-came-off-the-bone) went really well with the basanti polao. I would personally recommend the mutton spring roll or something like that which I ordered (can't recall). It was delicious. There's a little room for improvement in the desserts (personal view) but the taste was good and is recommended. Service was prompt and fast. The sous chef personally came to ask if we liked what was served and the answer, quite obviously, was a big yes. Definitely would love to visit this place again.

The ambience of this place is nice, located in Swabhumi and it’s now under the IHCL group. The restaurant decor is nice and bright inside. They serve mainly Bengali cuisine with some fusion of western and Mughal items. Food quality are ok . Alcohol are also available. There is a bar across the compound. You can order drinks and chit chat at the bar and bring the drinks over to the restaurant when the food is ready. Overall a nice place for taking picture and enjoy the day.

One star for the starters. Else it deserves a 0. First, when I am asked for "bottled or regular" for water, and I say bottled I expect them to at least notify me of the price - which was 200 bucks! Starters were good but mostly all were 3 pieces for 500 bucks!!! Main course, each portion is for one person only (light eater, for heavy eaters two portions might be required). And its expensive. And terrible in taste. I complained that my Pork Chops were chewy. I was in the middle of having it. They took my plate to say they'll replace it. They did, but didn't bother to serve the mashed potatoes or veggies which I hadn't even finished originally 🤣 Avoid this, in short. Go only for pictures lol. Would've probably given 3* for the tasty starters but the behaviour has turned it to a 1.

Everything is Top Notch. The sous chef Biswarup Pramanik prepared some awesome food. The morog polao and bhuna mutton, recommended by our server Mr. Munsi was the star of the show. And not to mention the creamy texture of the mishti doi. I couldn't even take a photo of the mishti doi. It was beyond my expectations. Thank you so much for everything

Part of the IHCL Rajkutir, a reason we went in. Food is pan bengali and has options on chicken, mutton and bhetki. No other fish options are there. Dish sides are comprehensive and illusive.

A taste of Colonial Bengal- This place is so serene and classy, it takes you to a timeless era of Bengali culture and architecture. East India Room is located inside Swabhumi boutique hotel Raajkutir. All the restaurants and hotels inside Swabhumi are just breathtaking.

Too good ambience! You can visit and enjoy the ambience. But on food I would say it is very over rated. Taste ok not too good. Price is too high. If you are not taking buffet then per head you have to spend 1000.

One of the best ambiance in Kolkata till now. This is inside the Swabhumi complex. The complex converted now into a boutique hotel and is a great traditional Rajabari feels. This is a nice getaway itself from the hustle bustle of Kolkata. And at a prime location. The decor is very good. The food is great as well. Loved the pork chops and chicken a la keiv ( a trademark British Kolkata dish). These two are a must try. We tried the stroganoff and a Danish meatball spaghetti as well, which was okay. Go for a memorable experience here.

Amazing ambience, in the middle of a busy metropolitan Kolkata life it brought a fresh air of royalty. Very good hospitality, food was tasty and quantity was good. Loved the way the menu was named. A unique, romantic gate out, away from the hustles n bustles on the city.

For an authentic bengali culinary experience amidst the setting of a zamindar mansion this resort is aptly named 'Raajkuthir'. The food is just heavenly and very ethnic. The vibes of the restaurant, named East India Room are very bright, sunny and energetic. The decor is very tastefully done and the setting gives one a feel of the colonial era. The staff are very courteous and take very good care of the guests. We were in luck as there was a live folk artist performance in the dining area. Overall a splendid experience.

The food quality is too good. Behavior of head chef is awesome. He personally attended all the people who came to eat there. He was humble and also communicated very politely about the food and process of cooking. The mouthwatering bengali dishes captured the mind and left a happy vibe.

Fabulous service by Kousik and Anik. The food was excellent. We had the mutton dak bungalo, the murgi jhol, bhapa chingre, aloo Dum, steamed rice and one plate of puri. This was more than enough for four hungry people. The restrooms are very clean. The murgi jhol especially stood out. As did the fantastic service. The waiters were very attentive and kind. We also had some starters, the Tikka paratha and vegetable cutlet. Ambience both inside and outside is wonderful. Will definitely visit soon and often.

Loved the ambience and the decor of the restaurant. The starters were really delicious but the main course unfortunately disappointed us to a great extent. Also, the dishes were quite expensive as compared to the taste. Overall it was not a good experience( food wise) though the staff were quite helpful.

"A LOTUS FLOWER FLOATING ON THE MUD" Cons and negatives 1)Location Google maps location for 1st time visitors will surely confuse you to reach the location especially at night time, Took us almost 20mins to find the place even post reaching it as even the hospital premise beside it no one had a clue about "East India room" Worse part no telephone number listed on Google to ask for guidance. 2)Parking After finally reaching at 8:30 p.m outside the rajkutir resort we were told there is no valet parking and we need to go straight then right to park the vehicle. There were no sign boards suggesting or guiding directions for parking in fact a no parking and exit board is all that was shown. Parking spot discovery took another 5mins. The location from parking back to restaurant is a 5minute spooky walk as there is no one and I mean literally no person visible with the old havelli kind of spooky fills. After finally reaching the resrurant at 8:45 p.m,which screams out delightful Victoria kind of ambience with a bite of history and culture of Bengal we were mesmerized at the interior planning and colors and it took away all the stress of reaching the spot as it was worth it we ordered stuff from chefs recomendation. The pros and the borderlined cons Pro #1)As complimentary welcome drink we had a nice gondhraj Lemmon soda which was refreshing to go along with bread and different kind of butter. We were excited for the food to finally dive in the flavors on east india room delicacies. CHIMNEY CLEAR BROTH The soup has some noodles and exotic BOILED veggies served in a bowl with some hot water with added flavors making up as the liquid base. To our utter shock the soup was not even hot so we asked it to be warmed up. So he asked to serve the starter before the soup which actually doesn't go with the feel. STARTER ARRIVES BEFORE SOUP @9p.m PRO#2)For all vegetarian this is the only major plus thing to order for it was very different to things we have at regular restaurants. Bandel cheese Malakoff It was an extremely finely made starter fried layer with cheese and some tofu in internal chords to go along with sweet chutney. Cut 2...Soup re arrives @9:10p.m With only a slight difference in warmth which hardly lasts for 2 to 3 mins. #pleasehurrysir To another shock just as the soup came the waiter comes and tells us at 915p.m sir last order is at 9:30p.m as per covid rules. It's obnoxious to ask someone who is having a soup to jump the gun to order main course in the interim. P.s in the exact opposite table to us later on they ordered main course at 9:45 p.m sharp Anyways we went again as per chefs idea to order dal makhani called national high dhaba dal and cossimbazar handi paneer which is just like the paneer butter masala in normal terms.Roti falka was ordered as breads. Average stuff The good part was paneer was fresh n veggie was hot, Dal was slightly spicy as a 5 year old child was with us couldn't eat it. Falka were very very thick which is very rare. The good thing is quantity of dal and sabji were very good so next time between a family of 2 adults 1 child even one vegetable is enough. As the resort is exotic with interiors and posh with prices we least expected u.p.i payments to be accepted however was a let down to hear only cash and card accepted. The sweet stuff. An overall average experience was made pleasant with a brownie cake they provided us as it was my wife's bday. The portion was adequate, delicious and very well decorated. The manager and stewards were good with hospitality apart from the hurry up for last order request. All in all a once a lifetime experience to remember for interiors some spooky experiences en route and a sweet ending. Do visit it once for capturing good memories.

East India Room has a beautiful ambience with amazing hospitality, food and service. We tried the following along with a few mocktails - Chitpur Special Jali Kebab Tulaipanji Pathar Pulao Dhakai Morog Pulao Dhonepata Kachalonka Murgi All of these were too delicious, and the quantity is good as well. Although the price is a little bit on the higher side but it's worth it. Must visit. 👍

We had the pleasure of dining at the East India Room in Rajkutir recently, and it was an extraordinary experience. Chef Biswajit's creations were nothing short of amazing. His cooking skills, attention to detail, and warm hospitality made our visit truly memorable. We're already looking forward to our next visit!

Wondeful place with good food. It's a restaurant themed on the colonial British era. The whole ambience is excellent and the food is good. Great place to spend time with friends and family n an even better place for an romantic dinner. Open air seating is available but will be a good option only during winters.

😐 Simply come here for the atmosphere and history. Nothing should be eaten here. Cold coffee was a letdown. It was cold water that had been sweetened with a pinch of coffee.
