An incredibly fun spot with such a wide variety of high quality food! I don’t think it matters what you’re hungry for, you’ll find something to satisfy you here. Even if you’re not looking for food, walking through is a fun way to overview Madrid’s general culinary scene. The whole market is huge, and you’ll have to walk through a couple loops if you want to get a good idea of all the options (which I recommend doing anyways). Definitely bustling and a bit crowded, I’d definitely say it can be a bit overwhelming and you’ll struggle to locate a good spot to eat your food inside. Although not impossible, it’s definitely easier with a group who can spread out to locate an open area - and once you have one, keep it!

I heard good feedback about this place but still came out with an excellent impression having high expectations, to begin with. The choice of food is fantastic. You can find lunch, dinner tapas and breakfast churros or a different pastry here. The place is lovely and has an excellent design. The lighting emphasizes the bright, colourful food experience—lots of places to stop and have a meal without anyone crashing you. I also found the site not very crowded, making the whole thing even more pleasant. Here are a few practical tips: - you want to try everything there, slow down - there is a limit to what you can eat. Try ordering just a few pieces from a place - more expensive does not mean better. Some cheaper tapas impressed me more - don’t be afraid to try things. You might be surprised - keep a count: small things add up. You won’t notice as you’ll spend more than 50 euros. With all that, I hope you will still love the place as I did on my trip.

Very touristy but so what? A popular place for foodies. Honestly, I enjoy going to these type of markets because you can find many unique snacks and try a little of everything. Prices are what you would expect but nothing that will make you go poor. When I went, it wasn’t super overcrowded. It was still crowded but not uncomfortable.

Very important that nowadays this supermarket is on restoration! That place is really good, if you want to meet a lot of different new people and try a lot of different food - there’s the spot you need to dive in!!! Meat, sushi, fish, cheese, olives, sandwiches, seafood etc. any best type of drinks! The variety of the food is enormous! Same with drinks! There can be some trouble with finding a spot to sit or stand, but it flows quickly, so you just need to wait a couple of minutes.. Prices are good and affordable a bit higher than middle prices, but remember: you pay for feelings and company, and it is definitely worth it!

Great modern building with lots of different stalls. You’ll see lots of people raving about how great this place is for food, drink and atmosphere. Yes, it’s great, but it’s also catering for the tourist and some locals too. If you’re after an authentic experience then head to a local place but for convince and just everything under one roof, then this is a must tick off. Most tapas and food range between €2 to €20 euro. A pint of beer cost me €8. You can basically have your dinner here as you will be stuffed! We came at night and it was great as it wasn’t as busy as it would be during the day time.

This is the market if all markets if your looking for good food and delicious drinks. I was surprised at how it’s organised, people standing, eating and drinking seemed normal. It felt like a night club but with more bars under one roof. There’s security officers outside at each exit, which means you can drink and eat all you like just gotta leave the glassware behind.

The market is located very close to the royal palace so it is nice to take a bite or a drink right after visiting the palace. It is very clean, vibrant perfectly managed, lots of good Spanish/Italian food like tapas, mozzarella, raw/cooked seafood, pastries etc…. But , be aware, it is very expensive I must say. I mean like small tray of fried calamari for one person is 17€ self serving on shared very uncomfortable stools!

I give a try but this is super typical touristic place. It’s always extremely crowded, there is no place to seat. As you want to try many things you end up with paying about 100 euro for 2 people. Eating and drinking in a rush, without a proper place to sit and enjoy the meal. There is so many things to try, the variety of little stands is a bit overwhelming. It’s great to go and try something but in my case it was once and… I can pass by… but this amount of people and eating while walking it’s not my thing.

The fruit market/ stand here is an absolute treasure trove of freshness. I can’t emphasize enough how remarkably fresh the fruits are here; it’s a testament to their unwavering commitment to quality. During our visit, we opted for two freshly squeezed juices and two medium-sized fruit bowls. These bowls were generously filled with a tantalizing mix of grapes, mangoes, pineapples, grapefruit, and kiwis. Each bite was like a burst of revitalizing energy, making us feel like we were floating on cloud nine. Adding to the charm of our visit was the exceptional customer service. The staff was not only friendly but also incredibly attentive, going above and beyond to ensure our experience was delightful. Their warmth and helpfulness elevated our visit to the fruit market. In a nutshell, the fruit market is a must-visit for fruit enthusiasts. The freshness and variety of fruits available are a true treat for your taste buds. Combine that with the outstanding customer service, and you’ve got a winning formula for a memorable and invigorating experience. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to explore this wonderful place!

Great experience here! Lots of food options and everything we had was reasonably priced (variety for any budget as well)! It is very crowded but nothing I haven’t experienced from other markets from other countries. It is worth the wait to order. Make sure to visit this market if you visit Madrid 🇪🇸

This place is legendary. Full of finger food and drinks. Can wander around and try all different types of Spanish food, from ham and olives to desserts and wine. Highly recommend. Some tables in the middle, bar stools and outdoor seating. Really great to come here and get a taste of local cuisine.

Similar to Pike Place Market in Seattle (where we're from), but much better organized for food and drink. We really enjoyed this method of strolling among the counters and seeing what looks good. Is it "touristy"; sure a bit. But very enjoyable and gives a wide variety of food and drink options in a confined area. Delicious tapas, reasonable prices, and a lively and accessible setting for foreigners and locals alike!

Loved stopping here for food. What a unique experience. Why don't we have this in the states? Totally hip vibe with great wine or beers to choose from. Love olives? There is a station just for that. Love fried bacon, they have it! My only regret was not wearing elastic pants.

Yea yea yea we know that it is for ‘tourists’ and expensive blablabla!🙄😀 don’t listen these comments and just visit this place. It is popular and famous for a reason! It is super cozy if you ask me and best place to have a tapas experience! Try vermouth and sangria with different types, eat while standing next to the surrounding glass and enjoy all the noises coming from all the happy people inside:)

They had told me so well about this market that I decided to visit it and it has fulfilled the expectations it brought. Traditional food market, but with a strong presence of urban food stalls, especially Spanish as expected. You can find Spanish products, although I expected more variety at the level of culture. It has several international food stalls, also with an important presence of communities from Spain. It is on one side of the emblematic Plaza Mayor. Prices are high but not extortionate and on weekends it is full of people and tourists, it is impossible to walk.

Wonderful and fascinating place, you can find the best of the best from the Spanish genius cooking. Plates from the north, to the south and much more. The quality is the best restaurants in the world. Service is great, such a friendly environment and great atmosphere. Very recomendable for a visit. Not a good idea with little kids, but certainly for adults who can enjoy the amazing and delicious variety of food. One of the best spots in Madrid!

A fun place near Plaza Mayor to try out a wide variety of food! I didn’t like the paella as it was cold, but the tapas, sandwich, sausage, sashimi and fruits were all worth it! This place was so crowded though, making it quite difficult to get a seat - so we ate at the counter instead. Also there’s a decent toilet that you can use for free with a bill or pay 0.5€ for without a bill.

Not so much a market as a collection of couple of dozen stalls each specializing in certain type of gastronomy, with delicious foods that you can try on the spot. Very crowded but if you are a little patient you can always find some space at the tables to taste taste the food. While being a majour tourist attraction, the crowd seemed to be surprisingly local

A great place to try a variety of fresh traditional Spanish food and drinks. It can get very busy and might be difficult somewhere to set especially at weekends. A perfect place for a quick bite. The prices are not moderate, you can also buy some packed food as gifts or takeaway to eat at home. The oyster and olive stools in particular have great fresh and tasty products.

What a magical space. Enchanting outdoor environment full of delicious fresh food and drinks. The staff in each kiosk were so pleasant and eager to serve. We enjoyed a variety of different food and beverages that met our every desire. Being able to experience so much in one area was a blessing for us as we were famished from our flight and ready to dive in to the culture of Madrid! Can’t rate this experience great enough.

I wish this place had international cuisines but the food they offer is tasty and all staff are friendly. At one of the wine section I asked for a very sweet white wine and a staff recommended me a nice sweet Hungarian wine and I was really happy about that. :) The vibe is very alive and nice here.

Yes it's expensive but it's also a must-see in downtown Madrid. Many wonderful kiosks inside selling delicious local delicacies. We especially enjoyed the Vermouth bar with the assorted olives & pickle combinations. Delicious food and beautiful a venue. Seating is limited but there are many standing areas along the outer glass walls.

Madrid. So if this is your first time to visit Madrid, it’s still worth a visit. Is it touristy? Heck yes but hey we ARE tourists after all so nothing wrong with that. For a second visit, we wish we skipped going back here. The first visit was so much better & it was better left as that. See pics with comments on what we ordered.

May 2023 A super interesting market with everything you can imagine. Good, drinks.... However, a three-star rating because it is touristy, crowded, no places available to sit, and expensive. It definitely had a vibe, and I did enjoy walking through. We then went elsewhere for lunch.

One of the best food markets in Madrid. Plenty of different food options to choose from. Very difficult to find tables and chairs as the place is usually pretty packed but you can still grab a beverage and walk around and try different tapas and kill a couple of hours.

Really busy place with vibrant feel, lots of local food. We didn't ended eating there because of no space to sit down and food is in the expansive side for what you get. But if you like to drink and tapas, then definitely a place to try out.

  • 4/5 Lukasz Z. 2 years ago on Google
This market is incredibly tourist packed on the weekends, so definitely visit in the weekdays and before lunchtime. Things will be much less busy then. There are not a lot of places to sit, so you may have to share a seat with someone you don't know. Check prices before your order, because some tapas are cheap and done are very expensive. Avoid the pastry options, since better ones can be found just around the corner. Take lots of pictures, since the shop owners are used to tourists taking pictures of their food. Do no get them burgers, as they are dry. Stick with traditional Spanish tapas.

Amazing concept, beautiful, great prices, very tasty. Anyone visiting Madrid should go there once. At midday and afternoon it's full to the top and out. If you go at 10/11am you'll have table and immediate service which I did and that was awesome.

We ordered some oysters and an octopus dish. I DO NOT RECOMMEND the oysters, they are bad! Very bad, you could tell they were not fresh, an uncomfortable taste and texture. And the octopus there cook en the microwave in 5 minutes, you know how that taste? a ocean gum. Horrible place! a hoax for tourists. Because you are going to be able to find all the tapas in Spain at ridiculously expensive prices and with low-quality products. I recommend that you avoid this place and go to know the La Latina sector.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Mercado De San Miguel during my trip to Spain, and it was an absolute delight! This iconic market in the heart of Madrid offers an unforgettable experience that every tourist should consider. First and foremost, one of the standout features of Mercado De San Miguel is that it's free to enter. This is a huge bonus, as it allows you to explore this food lover's paradise without any upfront costs. Once inside, you'll find yourself surrounded by a cornucopia of culinary delights. The food here is nothing short of amazing – from traditional Spanish tapas to gourmet international cuisine, there's something for every palate. What truly sets Mercado De San Miguel apart is its fantastic atmosphere. The vibrant, bustling market is a feast for the senses. You'll be greeted with the mouthwatering aromas of various dishes wafting through the air, and the lively chatter of locals and tourists alike creates a warm and inviting ambiance.

A must for any tourist. Very cute market place with a variety of food and drink selections. Lines are not long to purchase your food and it tastes fresh. I very much enjoyed the plentiful of indoor seating options. Great place to go and get a quick small bite to eat or buy fruits, fish, meat to take home.

Touristy but worth every minute! Be prepared for sensory overload - there is so much food to try and all look delicious. From seafood to paella to beer, it's a great introduction to Spanish food. Walk around all of the stalls before ordering, prioritize, and come hungry! The place is packed almost all of the time - be prepared!

The food is overwhelming in a positive way. There are so many choices of little bits of everything. Price ranges from €1.50-€25 for food and €4-€8 for a glass of drinks. Be prepared to stand up and eat, there is a limited seating section but it's always packed. The place is well maintained and there are always people collecting trash. The atmosphere is lively, even without music, and it's kids friendly.

This place is amazing but there is not control on how many people come in. A bunch of people together shoulder to shoulder without face mask since everyone is drinking or eating. December 27 and hundreds of people inside this place like nothing is happening. Certainly people is tired of covid.

This is the best place to hang out with friends as various food and drink stalls abound: Empanadas, Pasteleria, chocolates, Encuetidos, Sangrias, Pescado Frito, Pintxos, Quesos, Mozheart Mozarella bar, Salazones, Taberna, Bodega and Gourmet wines, and a lot more. Loved their olives on sticks, price starts at 1€. Olives with salmon and cheese were the best snacks I’ve had here.

It is a great way to try a lot of different foods and to have a drink. You might have to wait a bit for a place to sit down, but well worth the wait. Its a very cool atmosphere. Well, how can i put this in a nice way...the architecture is beautiful, the place is overcrowded and with some queues to get some food. The food is in small portions, they are Tapas, around 2€ to 4€ each, so choose wisely. The beer is expensive, they asked me 12€ for a IPA 33cl cup, but you can find a Carlsberg for 3€, if you search carefully. There are also Bathrooms in this market, good enough for a short visit. In resume, its nice to visit but eat and drink elsewhere if you are really hungry, if you want to taste some Tapas, all kind and huge diversity of them, go and enjoy them. They are good but nothing extraordinary.

During my stay in Madrid, which was about 3-4 days, El Mercado de San Miguel (San Miguel Market) was the best place I went to for food and drinks. The stall ‘La Hora Del Vermut’ was by far the best Sangría I had in Spain during my vacation because there are so many flavours to try from and they all taste so fresh and amazing. The overall food in this place was also amazing with a lot of variety. The only thing that I didn’t like was that some things were a bit too expensive.

As a tourist this is one of must check in places. However personally I feel is too crowded and you barely can walk. Limited table and chair. Not a comfortable to be here. Good things is you can try plenty of food choices, cold cut, tapas, paella, tuna, oyster, beers and wine. Food: 2.5 stars Environment: 2 stars Worth to try: 3 stars Value for money: 2 stars

VERY BUSY plaza, Very life, all the food is incredibly good. There are only few spots to seat so be sure to wear comfy shoes 😉. In that mercado I had the best oysters (ostras) of my life... There so good I didn't have a chance to take a picture...yep good...

Here you can find a variety of food and drinks, which can be consumed inside, although people consider this place as a kind of super market, hence they mostly buy food for takeout. It is easy to find since it’s located in the center of Madrid, on Cava Miguel. Prices are moderate to high. Food: appetizers (olives, mushrooms and other vegetables), burgers, grill, pizza, alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages, coffee, desserts, and more.

Mercado de San Miguel is a popular spot for tourists, and for good reason. It is a great place to try a variety of different foods, from tapas to churros. The snacks are presented in a way that makes you want to try everything, and the seating makes it easy to relax and enjoy your meal. We were there when they opened in the morning, so it was not terribly crowded. However, it can get quite busy later in the day. Some reviewers have said that it is a bit pricey, but we found the prices to be reasonable for the quality of the food. Overall, we had a great experience at Mercado de San Miguel and would definitely recommend it to others. Here are some additional details about Mercado de San Miguel: * It is located in the heart of Madrid, Spain. * It is open from 10am to 12am, seven days a week. * It has over 100 stalls selling a variety of food. * It is a great place to try traditional Spanish food. * It is a popular spot for tourists.

Very nice experience! You can eat lots of tapas from a huge variety of restaurants inside the market. There’s everything for everyone here! Both spanish and international flavors. Most portions are small (tapas style) so you have to order a few if you plan to have lunch there. The prices are a bit high for tapas and can add up really quickly. Quality also vary a lot within these restaurants so I guess it’s a game of luck depending on where you choose to eat

  • 5/5 Thyara Bezerra de M. 5 months ago on Google
The Market itself is really beautiful and organized. Lots of options of different kinds of food, clean, places to seat to eat or even stand to enjoy the food. However the food that i taste was not tasteful at all, what makes the price be expensive for what I had. As the review is for the market itself I will leave a 5 star, but I don’t think I would do it again.

Really great place to try out a lot of different tapas. We went on a Saturday morning and it was really crowded but still manageable. San Miguel Market was bustling with people, even in the late afternoon. To be honest, I didn't like it as much, but I can't deny that it's a good experience and great for having a quick bite of various small dishes. Despite my personal preference, I appreciated the opportunity to try different foods in one place.

This is definitely a must visit in Madrid, however I wouldn’t plan around it. You can get in and out fairly quickly and try a bunch of different things. Make sure you come with an appetite as there is many things to try and they’re very affordable. The best thing we had was the calamari and shrimp!

A lively food court style market space in the heart of Madrid city center. They have plenty of food items to choose from, but sadly, there are not spots to seat and eat. It's mostly standing and eat the foods, which isn't the best way to enjoy the cuisines. Recommend exploring the variety of foods in the market.

What a fun place to visit! It was crowded at 4pm but nobody seemed to notice as I think it gets more so later in the evening. Don't miss coming here! One of our tour guides told us this place has 4 Michelin star chefs. Wow! We thought we ordered the chicken croquettes but we really ordered ? fried pork belly so we ended up with both because they looked so good. I loved the pork belly with the lemon mayo drizzle from the chicken. The servers are super nice and so accommodating for us that don't speak Espanol. I'll be heading back today to try the seafood options that were plentiful.

Appealing exterior and interior, and even more attractive food and drink options. The market has many different vendors where you can find something to your taste: meat, fish, vegetarian, sweets.. You can grab a table inside or grab something to go. A very lively place, great for lunch, snack or evening drinks.

This is an upscale market with an urban trendy vibe. Bar/restaurants, shops for all varieties of fresh and prepared goods. Good lighting, ventilation, and even a misting system... for the crowd. I don't know what time they open, but they close at midnight. We and plenty more got chased out (figuratively speaking). A fun place. It was after a late dinner that we first encountered the market. We'd had limoncello with the owner of a cozy restaurant. I'm more a grappa fan after a nice Italian meal. There's a wine bar that has some cordials too. There I had the [apparent] Spanish equivalent. We went back the following evening for drinks while we waited for a dinner table across the street. Treat yourself.

Distinguished building with very interesting interior, huge variety of fruits, vegetables, seafood, cheese and meat products, wine and beer, sweets and snacks. It is an essential option for Madrid's must-see places.

Delicious cheap tapas, desserts and drinks in a beautifully preserved market. Great people watching while you nosh: crowd is great mix of young and old, local and tourist. Look up at the cast iron and terra cotta roof.

Pretty great. Looks amazing, all the food is on display and it's easy to get a variety of good quality Spanish food and drink. Definitely try one thing from each counter. Don't expect a seat, it can get pretty crowded and most of the time you'll be eating your food at the counters on the side

Amazing variety of spanish foods. Had herring with mustard, fried pork and best oysters I've ever had. Go with an empty stomach and try multiple dishes! Will not regret..

An incredible feast for the senses. The range of food was amazing, and quintessentially Spain. The food was a bit overpriced for what it was, but you are paying for the experience. Incredible quality and range. Nearly impossible to find a seat, but the turnover is quick. Line ups prevented us from getting some food, but patience is your friend. Enjoy!

The Mercado is centrally located in Madrid, a very nice hotspot and easy to reach. The stalls are very modern and make the Mercado look very chique. When we visited the market (2 times) it was always crowded - which is a good and bad 😉- You don't have much seating area in ratio to the amount of visitors but they added glass tables against the glass walls so you could eat while standing. Prices are high for the small amounts you get, but everything was really delicious!!

Amazing place for a quick bit in the middle of the day. Wide variety of dishes you can have (burgers, pizzas, tacos, starters) accompanied by some sangria or beer. Very nice atmosphere as well, but a little bit crowded if you go in the middle of the day. Pretty hard to find seat..

Everything is expensive for what you pay for. Small seafood appetizers run in the 12-20 euro range. It feels much cheaper and better value to dine-in at a nice sit down restaurant. However, it may be a good place to sample a little bit of everything Spain has to offer if you’re a tourist who’s short on time or you just like to eat with your eyes.

The food is wonderful. The display is amazing. Choices are great. But the reason for a lower rating is that the food is not freshly made - rather warmed up

Flew into Madrid and this was our first stop! Lots of selection and great atmosphere. Gets busy at night, standing room only. Great place to drop in, grab a bite and a glass of wine or vermut, and move on.

I love those types of gastro markets, nice atmosphere, many options to choose. Mostly finger food, so at the end you can be hungry ) It's a good place to explore local food culture

Lots of choices and some interesting takes on traditional dishes alongside all the usual favourites. It’s a busy place and you need to be prepared to wait patiently if you want a seat at one of the tables, but it’s worth it. In addition to the great food it’s also a rather photogenic place .

Loved this place. Either lunch or dinner or any time in the afternoon there's something for everyone. Many different cuisines are catered for whether it's tapas or dessert, raw or cooked. Grab yourself a pint of Estrella or a glass of wine, find something tasty to try and then join a communal table to meet some locals or fellow travellers for a chat! Location is right in the centre of Madrid and perfect for Plaza Mayor etc.

Absolutely gorgeous and trendy spot! Yes it's super touristy but totally worth it. The drinks are touristy with selections like sangria, a drink the locals don't really drink and they're all upcharged. The tapas are separately priced when usually you receive free tapas with an order at a local spot. Although the drinks and food options are both tasty you'll find your best meals and drink outside in the local bars. Definitely something you have to see once or twice during your stay. Definitely cute and Definitely had a great time though.

This market offers pinchos and tapas options plus multiple alcohol drinks. It is not as kid friendly as families with children will like. Found some fresh juice and fruits for breakfast more of a lunch type of place

These market stalls in San Miguel Mercado are epic and I would totally recommend anyone visit the mercado if you're in Madrid. Yours truly @fooderarri

Nice business idea. Great location. Beautiful food spots Expensive like Hell

Fantastic selection of all kinds of food and drink in a bustling, market-type setting. Only down side is that there is practically no place to sit down while you eat but it's all about enjoying delicious and varied tapas and nice wine and beer so you don't really care.

small cool food hall for tapas and pinchos and other dishes. touristy but you could try a few items at least. the pinchos are decent and reasonably priced. the rest of the food stalls are quite pricey for not being a sit-down restaurant so i don’t think they’re worth it.

Great place to taste a variety of dishes. Quality is medium in most of the places, but is good to grab a bit and go. Another downside: market closes really early.

I honestly thought I had died and gone to food heaven. A mozzarella bar! Grilled artichokes! A vermouth stall! An Aperol Spritz stand! Crab, squid, oysters, salmon! Paella! Churros! All of it delicious.
