Beautiful hike along the water, we parked on North Shore side and walked out. The Whales were super active and spouting and Brea hung like crazy. Saw a Hawaiian Monk Seal bathing in the sun and the waves were just beautiful. Albatross were pretty active also!!! Took our time and walked out along the water checking all the pools for fish and crabs

SUUUPER beautiful trail. Easy. Gorgeous views of the ocean. We saw a seal, mongoose and albatross. We did it with my 72 year old parents. There is no incline. It’s just hot and sunny. No shade anywhere. We all wore water shoes as it’s very dusty. It was about 3:30hrs. 10km to the point and back round trip- walking. There is a nice parking lot that’s free. Highly recommend this trail on the north shore!! 🤗

Really an awesome experience. We got there early, and I recommend doing that since the trail felt peaceful and secluded. It’s fairly flat, with a nice view of the water and the nearby mountains. Once you reach the point, there are albatrosses and monk seals closeby, and very striking views up and down the coast. Well worth the trip

Best hike on island in my opinion! You have the mountains to your left and the ocean to your right. You get all the way to the end and there's a gate where you can enter the albatross sanctuary! When you go all the way past the sanctuary, you are at the further point of the island where you can see the sun set right in front of you. You can also see seals here too, but DO NOT APPROACH. Let them be and admire from afar. Bring flash lights or make sure your phones charged if planning to see sunset so you can walk back and see where you're stepping.

Great hike, took us 1hr 22 on the way up and 1hr 28 back. This was with very slow walking as I was with parents. A faster walk would take you 30 to 45 min one way. Great views, can see both sides of island from this point. We also saw seals swimming into the shore. Also saw lots of off roaders, bikers and runners.

Every time I come here for the sunset, we get to experience dreamlike sunset. Even without going into the trail, the shore is already breathtaking. But if you hike further, it’s also quite special. Better to bring headlight or flashlight if you go further on the trail for sunset as there are no light on your way back. Very much enjoyed some snacks and poke while watching the sunset - it’s perfect to lounge on whichever spot at Kaena point trail. Definitely in my must visit list every time I visit the island.

A great place to hike! Along the way there is tide pools, small beaches, beautiful views of mountains, a bird sanctuary, a beach where monk seals hang out, lovely view of waves and whales off the coast. Excellent.

Amazing hike—I recommend taking the coastal trail and not the road. The views are incredible; however, bring LOTS of water. There is zero shade, and it gets hot out there. Lot of people park their trucks and fish and bbq out there so know your surroundings. When you finally reach the Point, you will be blown away by the 360 views and are likely to see some large seals sunbathing on rocks—such a great site. We stopped at a small bay on our way back to cool off and finally made it to our car after a fun 3-4-hour trek. One of the best hikes and views on the island.

Very nice trail and IMO, family friendly for kids 8 and older. Nice views of the mountains on the left side of you with the ocean on the right side. Some good sandy spots for beach glass and shells...and if you are lucky, you might catch a sea lion sleeping on the beach.

Very easy trail, it's just a 2.5 mile walk with a great view at the end. The trail starts at the parking lot and there is a gate that you can't get through unless you have a permit(for cars, you can still walk around it).

It's not a terribly difficult hike. But make sure to bring water and sunscreen. The albatross sanctuary at the end truly is just incredible. Seeing birds like that up close and personal is lovely. Have fun. Stay cool and hydrated. Don't let the sun get you.

Fantastic place to see wild Hawai’i. However, it is almost 3 miles from the parking lot to the point. Don’t underestimate it. It seems some maps and online guides say the distance is only a half mile or so to the point. This is wildly inaccurate.

This is probably my favorite place on Oahu. It is so beautiful the entire walk and majestic and peaceful. It ends at an albatross sanctuary and they are flying overhead while others are in their nests and you get to walk through guided paths all around it. Fantastic! And then, if you're lucky, you may see seals sleeping on the rocks! Just a very fun and pleasant outing! Don't miss it!

My favorite trail in O'ahu. So much wildlife. I got to swim with turtles, which was a core memory. Lots of historic military installations on the hills, including some deep tunnels. The scenery is just incredible. Be sure to set aside a whole day if you want to take it all in. Also be sure to bring plenty of water. This - I think - is one of the most remote parts of the island - and also the most beautiful.

Be totally sure you have the right footwear to go on this hike. Though not much elevation gain, the terrain is very rocky at points and then sandy at others. There is not a shady spot for practically the entire hike, which is long. However— the end of the hike is amazing. Along with the fantastic coastal shoreline hiking throughout, the waves crashing at the end of the trail are superb. We saw tons of nesting Albatross, which was amazing plus a few seals (3) which was what we were hoping for. Hats, water, sunscreen and appropriate footwear will get you there properly. :)

I always love hiking out to Ka’ena Point to catch some wildlife sightings and experience the beautiful north shore scenery. There’s two trails you can actually take - one keeps you on the main road, and the other allows you to walk along the coast. Because there’s a lack of shade on this hike, I would recommend taking the coastline trail as it keeps you a little cooler with the constant ocean breeze. It takes a while to walk back and forth from the parking lot to the wildlife refuge, so have a lot of water readily available and don’t forget to pack some snacks! This isn’t a hard trail, and most of the way it’s flat, but I would still recommend a good pair of shoes. Happy hiking!

The northern trailhead of the Kaena Point Trail, unlike the western trailhead, does not have a restroom. Why is there no restroom here? And there is no restroom all the way to Kaena Point. I recommend solving this problem before going.
