This masjid was built in 1603, but now the original building that was made of wood is now gone. It got renovated in 1816, replacing woods with a very thick bricks wall. Al Hilal masjid was also used as the final base to fight against colonialists because of the thick wall. There are graves of Gowa and Tallo Kings beside the masjid, and also graves of Habaaib
