⛰️ Confer to Katse Dam Bokong. A long way (ca.200 km) coming from South Africa (Bethlehem) via Ficksburg , Mafika Lisiu Pass on the A 25 , a challenge for our old Golf Citi, but he did well. About 40 km before the dam we had to give up due to the advanced time, anyway, we enjoyed our tour and a day in the mountain world

I loved the breathtaking views and scenery of the drive to Katse Dam through Mafika Lisiu Pass right up Katse Botanical Gardens, the highest botanical garden in southern hemisphere. The views of the waterfalls dripping down from the mountain tops are out of this world. Though there are falling rocks here and there and constant reminders about keeping in low gear, the road condition is great. It's an exciting but scary drive, unforgettable experience indeed. If you're lucky enough you may come across Sotho women from initiation scheduled and they will perform some nice traditional songs and dance for your entertainment. Please do leave a little token of appreciation for them. The Katse Dam itself is huge and it also supplies water to South Africa. It is a concrete arch dam on the Malibamat'so River and is Africa's second largest double-curvature arch dam whilst being Africa's highest dam. The tour of the dam will provide you with great information.

Interesting to see the history behind the Katse dam and how they built the dam wall. There was little or in some cases no employees to help us or assist us in questions that we wanted to ask. Toilets was clean at least and would greatly increase customer satisfaction if there was a restaurant or tuck shop to get some refreshments.

All the Lesotho people were wonderful and amazing. Sad that an arrogant woman working for G4S in South Africa had to be the only rude and arrogant person at this great stop. Typical attitude one is used to in South Africa of someone in "power" and making sure you know it. G4S you have some serious challenges agead of you if you allow her to disrupt peaceful visits to places in Lesotho that you are paid to protect

Very interesting tour, first time that I have been into the bowel of a dam wall. Normal tour guides were on leave, but one of the safety officers did a great stand in job. Next glass of water I drink in Joburg will be different, now that I have seen some of the amazing infrastructure that brings it to us.

The information centre is built well for the purpose of informing about the project. The guide was well informed on the subject and history. He was also entertaining in his manner of deliverance. Organisation was poor, with the guide showing late and without a receipt book for payments. We still had to wait for it but it did not arrive. This resulted in leaving the convoy from the dam and continuing with our trip.
