Benue State University, Makurdi, fondly called ‘BSU' is a state-owned and governed higher institution of learning established in 1992 out of the need to establish a conventional University that would complement the specialized activities of the Federal University of Agriculture in the State. Starting off with just a little over 300 students in its first year, BSU has grown to an enrollment range of 30,000-35,000 students offering accredited programmes in 8 faculties. These courses lead to officially recognized degrees such as Bachelor, Master, and Doctorate degrees in several disciplines. The courses offered are accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC). The University has also won several awards, one of such is the grant from World Bank to establish a Centre for Food and Technology Research aimed at tackling the problem of higher education in West and Central Africa. BSU partners with other institutions in the country and Africa to bringing to students a wide variety of courses such as, Analytical/Environmental Chemistry, Biostatistics, Food Chemistry, Food Processing Technology, Food Science and Technology, e.t.c; and also availing them the opportunity to benefit from quality research-based education which is in high demand.

Been there it's a great privilege for me and the students of Benue State University . The University is a state own and is among the best universities in Nigeria which has well qualified and talented lecturers both teaching and non teaching staff. The university have two campus. To be Frank, Benue State University is a school that has a very good and conducive learning environment and because of its good attributes it has equipped students with necessary skills for self, academic and economic development. The university has good discipline which is applied to all students. It's a great university to be acknowledge..

Benue state University makurdi is a state own higher institution of learning. The university like other institutions is a conventional school with serveral falculties and departments offering so many courses ranging from undergraduate degree and post graduate programs. The Benue state University makurdi is currently closed to to recent protest by the students of the institution concerning the changed in the grading system from the usual 5points grading system to 4 point grading. With the current grading, many students argue that it's not favorable to them having taken the analysis of recent results publishe by serveral departments. According to some students many students who are forced to probation is due to the current grading system of 4 points adoupt by the school and they are therefore demanding the school return back to the 5 points grading system for peace. This has led to temporarily closure of the school to avoid more problems, it is however revealed that the school Senate and management is not resting to see that the issue is resolved and normal activities resume.
