My husband, myself and my two brother in law's stayed here on the weekend 21/9 - 23/9. Overall I was very disappointed with our stay. The way we were treated by management was very poor. My husband and brother-in-laws are locals to Malawi however they were treated with disregard by the management team despite the issues that we encountered during our stay. As an Australian Citizen visiting Malawi for the first time, it was not a nice experience and I would advise to stay elsewhere when traveling to Mangochi. Pro's - Reception staff were very nice and hospitable. They were very helpful and attentive - Beds were comfortable and clean - Toiletries provided Con's - Breakfast is buffet however during our first breakfast on Saturday morning, my brother in law found a cockroach in his food that had been cooked as a part of the meatballs. When we notified the manager, no apology was made. He simply took the plate away and ignored us for the rest of our stay. On the last day of our stay, the only hot food available was chicken livers and omelette. The rest of the foods were bread, pastries, cookies, vegetables and a pasta with some tomato sauce that had been cooked earlier in the morning. For a breakfast menu, this is appalling. - On our last night, we ordered dinner. We were a party of four and there was one other couple in the restaurant. The menu was printed and laminated with spelling mistakes and half the options were unavailable. There wasn't even cold bottled water available because no one had restocked the fridge. It took 45 minutes for our food to come out. We hadn't even received our entree meal. When I asked the waiter why there was a delay, they simply advised that they would ask the kitchen. Our entree (which was beef samosas) came out on USED tax invoices in a basket. My husband ordered a boneless butter chicken which came out with bones, no rice and one papadum. When we asked the waiter, they advised that we would have to buy the rice separately for the two curry dishes ordered. After waiting 45 minutes for this meal, we had just about given up. - During dinner, there was mice coming out of the kitchen along with other cockroaches. I had notified the staff and they advised that they would report this to management. - During our stay, we were "upgraded" to a jacuzzi room. In this chalet, there are no curtains or doors for the bathroom. The way that the mirror was angled in the room, if someone came to the door, they could see me changing or using the toilet. Not cool. - In both of the rooms that we stayed in, they only had fans and no air conditioning. In the jacuzzi room we were also getting bitten because the mesh at the top of the room had come out. Also the jacuzzi was outdoors and was not cleaned. We had to clean this prior to use and only a patio light could be used which attracted all the mosquitoes and bugs. Not appealing at all! - The photos on the website are nothing like what we saw on the grounds. The pool had chairs that had holes and rips in them. The brick paving was all unleveled the pool even though it was supposed to be clean, was dirty as it had bugs and dirt in it. During our three day stay, we did not see anyone use this. It was very uninviting and looked nothing like the photos on the website. - The "resort" had a beach bar however this was never in operation. Although it is a lakeside location, there is no entertainment when you walk the 200m to the lakeshore. Also because the hotel only opened in 2018, they are still developing the walkways on the grounds. - The hotel advised that they had free WiFi however it was very poor and would always cut out and say that you have reached your quota. We were constantly having to contact reception so that they could give us a new login so it was very unreliable. For a hotel where we paid $100AUD per night per room (we had two rooms), the hotel was very expensive for what was provided. The management need to respect the customers that come to this hotel if they want their hotel to be recognized in the same league as its competitors.

Worst hotel ever, worst experience ever....! there have been several issues that made our stay quite awful: 1. We have booked online and paid in an advance for luxury room, but they allocated our rooms to someone else and also offered us lower class economy room. 2. Poor Electricity which gone every 5 mins. 3. Air corn is worst then Ceiling Fan. 4. The Internet was not accessible in room 5. TV is only show piece. 6. After 8:00 PM nobody answer phone call @ reception area. This was the absolute worst experience of my life. It made my trip stressful and I am disappointed I had to pay for it.

Was on a work trip and decided to sleep in Mangochi from Liwonde on my way back to Lilongwe. Picked Zaburi for its pricing. The reception staff are warm and welcoming. The rooms are fine but can be improved. Due to effects of Cyclone Freddy the swimming pool was under water, some of the chalets towards the lake were inaccessible. A lot of work shall be required to return the place into form. Had T bone and nsima for supper and it was very good. There was an annoying noise all night coming from the roof. In the morning I discovered it was the solar water heater had a leak; hence the noise. Apart from the problems above the place is nice and will visit again after the flooding to have a real take of the facility.

Tranquil lake resort in Mangochi. Sadly came after the cyclone Freddy effects and could not get access to the lake or swimming pool. The rooms are stunning and the restaurant had decent food. Would come again.

It's unpopular yet expensive. Not a good look for them considering they have huge competition near them. Skinny Hippo Lodge is much better. Even the lake has grass grown in the lake unlike Skinny Hippo where its just clear water.

For a place that opened on 2017 it's still under construction. If you go to a lake resort you expect to be able to go to the beach, we were told the beach is not opened and ready for guests. The pool was also being worked on. So essentially you go to the lodge to sleep and sit at the main bar. Staff are friendly however food needs to be worked on a lot. The outside jacuzzi tubs are a nice touch however the electrics font work so essentially it's a bathtub, and with no privacy from the rest of the lodge as it faces the main pathway. It needs a lot of work as a lodge and currently is only good if you need a bed to stay in if passing through mangochi

worst experience ever at Lake Malawi. have stayed at very cheap hotel in Mangochi but never faced problems which we faced at zaburi.. we booked 4 room in advance. but when we reached we were given different rooms then what we were sent pictures of and gave us rooms without Airconditioeners and fans were very high so fan were not helping to get rid of mosquitos and heat. for almost 24 hours we couldn't find the manager on the premise. free internet never worked. intercom wasn't working so every time u need any thing u need to walk all they way to reception couldn't sleep whole night with mosquitos. price of soft drinks were ridiculously high.and after 10o clock the place was on Auto_pilot mode. there was literally no body to conact for any emergency. had to look for a guard who took us far away to see the guy responsible for electricity. I count never imagine big place like this is run like this. I can not recommend this place to anybody ever.

I wish I could give this no star at all. There was no organisation from any of the staff. Itโ€™s not worth it for $130 a night. We have been to places where weโ€™d paid less than $130 a night and the experience is always been great. I donโ€™t know if we were allocated wrong rooms. Donโ€™t be fooled by the photos from the owners, itโ€™s not what it seems. They have a lot of work to do to get on par with other surrounding resorts. We booked a three night stay at Zaburi from 30th Dec to 2nd Jan 2020 and we regretted every bit of it. The pictures that they sent us were completely different to what we found. We stayed in one of the most expensive rooms at Zaburi, Itโ€™s a shame I forgot to take photos. We found 4 hand towels in the room and when we called the reception to ask for bath towels, we were told that they were being washed. We used hand towels for 2 days and only had bath towels on the day we were supposed to leave. Most of the electrical sockets were broken. We had to ask for the room to be serviced. We had a guy coming to our room every morning asking us if we were leaving on that particular day, this was weird to be honest. I would not recommend for anyone to stay here. Avoid at all cost.

I visited with my friends with our families in december and it was a terrible experience as upon arrival our booked AC rooms were allocated to someone else and when we tried to inquire the reason through the front office , they didnt have any clue , when we asked for the manager , we were told he was not there and when we called the reservation office, we didnt get any reply either. somehow we had to accept to stay in the non ac rooms. At night there was electricity problem and it was hot so at around 12 the light went off and they didnt start the generator so we had to go to the reception but the reception was locked and the number they gave us , we tried to call on that and it was ringing in the locked reception . There was a guard who was sleeping there who took us to the room where the responsible person was sleeping and it was quite far and full grass and dark which was quite dangerous . We could manage to get hold him and he came to the reception and told us that the person responsible to start the generator was sleeping so he didnt start and fortunately enough the power. The Food was terrible , swimming not maintained properly, no umbrellas or shade was there at the pool, so much grass around the facility and dangerous for kids. I I would request not to go for it .

The rooms are conviniently well spaced. But the impact of the bar and restaurant which got fire a while ago can be felt - for those that have been there before. Waiting for the renovations

Place is decent. The rooms are really ๐Ÿ‘Œ cute . Aslo, the inside of the rooms is alright. However, the place is under staffed there is need for more staff. They really should work on that. Plus, the accessibility needs to be worked on they have to build a tarmac or something better than the dust road that leads to it.
