The Monastery of Pedralbes, located in Barcelona, Spain, is a serene and remarkable medieval monastery that offers a glimpse into the rich religious and cultural history of the region. Founded in the 14th century, this architectural gem was once home to the noble nuns of the Order of Saint Clare. The monastery's architecture is a blend of Catalan Gothic and Mediterranean styles. Its elegant cloisters, slender columns, and intricate stone carvings create a sense of tranquility and grace. The monastery's church is adorned with beautiful stained glass windows and houses a collection of religious art, including the stunning altarpiece. The monastery's highlights include the impressive Gothic cloisters, which are considered one of the most beautiful examples of their kind in Europe. These cloisters feature delicate arches, ornate details, and a peaceful central garden that invites visitors to reflect and contemplate. The monastery also houses a museum that exhibits a collection of religious artifacts and artwork, providing insights into the daily life of the nuns and the history of the monastery. The Monastery of Pedralbes is surrounded by meticulously maintained gardens, offering a peaceful retreat from the bustling city. The gardens are adorned with aromatic plants, beautiful flowers, and serene fountains, creating a serene and picturesque atmosphere that invites visitors to stroll and relax. Visiting the Monastery of Pedralbes is a journey back in time. Its historical significance, architectural beauty, and peaceful surroundings make it a hidden gem within Barcelona. It provides a unique opportunity to appreciate the religious heritage and cultural traditions of the region while enjoying a tranquil and contemplative atmosphere.

This place was so cosy and very nice! A true piece of history where you actually feel to travel back in time and life a life of monk from the earliest centuries of the monastery foundation to the modern times. Each space hosts plenty of objects of the daily life, from kitchenware to furniture. The environment tell you a lot how actually the monks life was simple and poor.

It's worthwhile. A very peaceful and enchanting place. The gardens are lovely and the art museum has some rather interesting pieces. You can pretty much visit every corner of this monastery. The immediate surroundings are also very nice and if you go further up the hill outside the monastery there is a very nice park so you can spend most of the day visiting the monastery and having a nice walk around as well.

Worth visiting! The monastery conserves a rich collection from the Reinaissance period. We got free entrance during a Sunday afternoon. Plan ahead and take your time because there are a lot of things to see and the monastery is full of surprises.

It's a splendid piece of monastery architecture in the outskirts of the city centre. Easily accessible coming from the green line, it's truly a quite oasis drenched in history and culture. They've also just opened to the public a small horticulture area that I really enjoyed visiting. The first time I came it was mid-week, during the afternoon, and the emptiness and silence resonated with my need of quiet to escape the chaos of Barcelona. Recommended, as a visit for long stays rather than short stays.

That's a Must Have when coming to Barcelona. Very well maintained monastery with a lot of rooms to be visited as they are hosting different exhibitions. Cheap ticket price, easy to be reached with V5 bus. Wonderful sightseeing. Also somehow near to Tibidabo entertainment park. Go for it.

Peaceful and beautiful! This place is a little paradise. If you like to gasp a moment of calm, peace and serenity, this is your destination. Birds singing, fruits ripeing in the garden, gold fish in the fountain, herb garden... This monastery was an asylum for the women of rich and prominent families, that is why in this monastery there are many pieces of fine art works.

This is a hidden gem in Barcelona, a bit away from the touristy areas. It’s amazing to see how well preserved this monastery is and learn about the history. The team that cares for this monastery has done a great job at preserving it for generations to come. The chapel is very peaceful and one of the most serene chapels you will ever find for prayer.

It’s good to see the historical place preserved in a right way . We went during a weekend , not many people were there . Google maps will stop you at the parking spot - please keep going ahead and you will find a door to enter inside the building ( updating in august 2023) The staffs are super nice - they close around 8ish .. So be there early . It has nice views - good photography place — Well maintained !! Worth visiting

A place filled with history. The monastery is a quiet place up on the hill with the lush scenery. Now, as there were no tourists, this place was almost all for me and kids. It was so peaceful place to stay, after heading to it through a traffic jam. The gardens are simply amazing, kids stayed almost all the time there, and enjoyed little fishes in the water. It is true that the church was closed, and we have visited only the gardens, the exposition and few other open spaces. As a general information, I would say it is the place where you feel the atmosphere of medieval Barcelona of a well preserved place.

  • 5/5 Zhuliyan Z. 4 years ago on Google
A hidden gem in the busy Barcelona. The monastery offers a wonderful experience away from the crowds where you can relax in the refreshing garden, make a wish to a gold fish or just enjoy the spiritual silence within the temple. All this you can receive for 5 euros pp, or if you're < 30yo for 3,5! Prior entering the abbey, you can enter the stunning neo-gothic cathedral completely for free. Take a minute to escape the mainstream audience and explore this priceless treasure of Catalonia.

Great place, the place is really old and its got a spirit. Intrestic architecture of catalan gothic makes you wanna stay there for a bit longer. Also the entry tickets are really cheap.

The monastery is fabulous. Especially the minuature scenes of the Jesus life are really detailed piece of art. The neighborhood where is monastery is located so quiet, green and peacefully.

I only saw this place from outside, since I didn't have time to enjoy the beauty inside, but from outside the architecture is amazing

When we were at Monasterio de Pedralbes, my mother thought we had been there before. Monasterio de Pedralbes reminds us of Cloister of the Clarisses in Naples, Italy. Free visit on Sundays after 3 pm :) Away from the main sights, but if you have time, definitely worth visiting this medieval monastery.

It's really worth to visit this monastery. Not only It's a part of history but it also has its own amazing story behind. What's more is really pretty inside and outside, especially with that fountain in the middle.

What a beautiful and peaceful place !!! And it's located in one of the most beautiful neighborhoods of Barcelona! The streets are lined in Jacarandas...that when I went were in full bloom! The Monastery itself is a history lesson about what has happened in this wonderful city.

Absolute must visit. The place is a time capsule with the most serene vibe. The museum is super well maintained. The free audio guide is informative, the audio visual film is well done, the entire place soaks you with sensory and deep understanding. Highly visit, very worth the reasonable entrance fee. (I am not religious and yet highly enjoyed the place)
