We took the funicular from Parallel to the base of the hill. From there we took a one-way cable car ticket to reach the castle. The caste is beautiful and well maintained. The staff at the ticketing counter is also friendly and helpful. On a good weather day, one can easily spend about half a day walking around, exploring all the parts of the castle, capturing pictures of the city from different viewing points, or relax and refresh oneself with food and drinks at a small café located inside the castle. The walk back to the base is easy. The wonderful sites at the various levels of the hill can be explored only on foot, so I would recommend not taking the cable car back to the base.

Nice experience. I recommend paying for the full tour so you can learn about the castle's history. The easiest way to get up is using the funicular and cable cars. The views at the top are pretty neat. You can stay as long as you want to.

The castle's entry costed €5, and I believe that it was money worth the investment. The exhibition halls are numerous, and loaded with information. A History buff can spend an entire day here. For visitors like me who are pressed on time, the exhibitions provide an overview of the historical turbulence associated with Catalonia, and the sufferings of the Catalans during various conflicts. The views are appealing: - The Barcelona harbour (?) can be viewed from here in its entirety. - If you take the gondola up to the castle, you get a panoramic view of the city. They have a cafe. The staff was efficient and polite. Tips: - Note that there is no public toilet here. Only if you pay, and enter the castle, you would find one. - Try to reach early, so that you can make the best of the exhibitions. - You can take the kids inside, if they get bored, they can play in one of the open sections where there are several bitter orange trees, and some benches.

It was a nice experience. A few historical sights to see, beautiful garden and my personal favourite was the view of the port from the castle top as well as the view of the city! I think it's a nice place to go if you love ancient architecture and you enjoy views.

The views are great, the castle itself isn't very fascinating, unless you're into that stuff I guess. Consider buying combined ticket with admission to the botanical garden which is 20 minutes walk away. It costs only 1€ more. Skip the tickets if you're on a budget. You can get plenty of beautiful views just by walking around the castle and even better city panorama for free at bunkers El Carmel.

Very good views. Expositions within the castle were not very interesting and were very basic. I bought the ticket that included the botanical garden.

This castle and its surrounding is big with beautiful flower compositions, plants and vegetation. One can have a good walk around it with a beautiful view on the landscape and the city. The entry price is really correct

Reached via the cable car ride, superb place to visit and take in Barcelona's stunning views. The castle itself is beautiful with some interesting history. Great place for kids to stretch their legs and has cafe, toilets etc. Around 25 euros for family of four to visit.

Interesting place but little in the way of information and maps to walk around with. You can hire the audio guide but I wasn't told about this until after I paid for my ticket. By that time the queue to go back and hire one was very long and not worth the wait. The cable car ride was fun and provided great views of the city!

Nice experience visiting the Montjuïc Castle. Cable cat ride is nice, but ticket price for it is almost the same as ticket price for the castle itself. You can have a 40-50 minutes hike to the top(if you don’t have mobility issues) for free 🙃 and enjoy the view from the hill on the way. The castle itself is nice, has great view on the port. Lots of seagulls(not very friendly though). Nice gardens around the castle.

Amazing place to visit and see while in Barcelona. Also, amazing views! Lots of history inside, however, currently there is a covid exhibition in the basement level of the fort. Views are absolutely worth of the entry ticket, because you can see Barcelona from all the sides. We didn't take a cable car, we walked through the gardens instead, however it's a long walk. Maybe better to take a cable car, also because of the views!

I went for free. On the first Sunday of every month - for free. And so the price seems to be symbolic. Going is definitely worth it. An hour to walk to see. This is Bus number 150 (stop at the National Museum of Art of Catalonia) It offers gorgeous views of the city and the port of Barcelona

Cool castle with wonderful breezes that come in from the ocean. Absolutely beautiful views of all of Barcelona. It's near the ocean and has a very interesting history as shown by some of the exhibits inside. Worth the price of admission I think. An hour of time is enough to see everything I think.

By far the best views of the port and the city you will see! The cable car ride was fun ( you can advance purchase tickets online easily, which I highly recommend as the lines can get quite long!) The castle itself has a dark history but it has clean restrooms and a cafe on site- nice way to spend a few hours!

Did the guided tour in English and it was perfect. If you like to understand the history behind historical places then a few extra euros for the guided tour is well worth it. You can then explore the grounds after the tour at your own pace. Lovely views of Barcelona from the castle roof top...best at sunset!

Cool place to visit. If you are walking or bicycling to the castle have in mind it is steep and a long way from the center of the city. There are a beautiful view over the city. Take your time to walk around the castle and also enjoy refreshments at the cafe in the castle. There is plenty of space for everyone due to the size and not so crowded as other places

A castle that has been standing since the 1800 and has been occupied by Napoleon's troops and a lot of prisoners, among others. Visit to learn history and experience fantastic views of Barcelona. Most people pay for the cable car, which is a nice ride (especially if you have kids). If you want to save it, you can either walk or take a bus, which is cheaper and convenient. Once up you can pay the ticket to enter the castle, but if your time or budget are limited, you can also walk around for free and have a nice, beautiful experience. The admission fee as of 2022 is EUR 9, and kids under 8 y/o enter for free. No pets allowed. Be sure to walk around for a whole overview of Barcelona.

Best thing about this visit is the cable car! Great views from it. Its very steady and quiet so no need to be scared. We had the car to ourselves, 3 of us. You have to pay extra to go into the castle, approximately 9€ which gets you better views over the city. You can walk back down the hill or get the cable car half way then walk the rest down to the bottom.

Extremely wonderful historical castle. I enjoyed the view of Barcelona from there. I also liked the view of the beach and the port from the other side. It's better if you have some information about the history of the castle and Barcelona. But even without this information you can still enjoy your visit. Free entries on Sundays after 3 pm. I planned to stay for an hour or two but I stayed there until the sunset. The staff there were friendly and nice. For me it's the most important site to visit in Barcelona.

Awesome place full of history and great views. The park itself is awesome, but if you visit the castle make sure to also check out their great exhibitions! Visiting Montjuïc Castle is truly a magical experience all in all

A very nice ride with the teleferic completes the experience of visiting the Montjuïc Castle. The indoors museum tells its story in an easy to understand and interesting way. The place also provides an amazing view of the city.

Beautiful historic fort, with amazing 360 degree views, and a fun cable car ride up to visit it. Great way to spend a few hours away from the city center. I was impressed I could use public transit from the city to the top of a mountain. Barcelona, you're doing things right!

Even if empty castles aren't your thing, make sure to walk the perimeter. Great views of the ocean and city. The building is massive so bring comfortable shoes and water. It was fun to watch everyday activities on the castle grounds from afar. The highlight was seeing children learning the traffic signals and rules of Barcelona on a training course. Makes you envious of the education systems they have in Europe compared to the United States.

It’s a pretty nice historic place to visit with lots of information available. It offers nice views over the city of Barcelona as well as over the port. There is a small restaurant available inside the castle with seatings outside - very nice place for a break. It was not very crowded so it was really a nice break from the vivid city life.

I was there in December, not in season. That's why I think there wasn't much to see, many exhibition rooms seem to be closed. Functional cafeterias in the courtyard though. Bus stop in front of the castle. A few exhibits and some short movies describing the role of the castle in the city history.

Everyone who comes to visit me in Barcelona must also visit Montjuïc Castle. Anyone who is interested in understanding this city needs to understand the (dark) history of this castle. The views of the city are spectacular; the prices are quadrupled in the summer; and if you have kids you simply must find the 3-story slides and take them there as well. Oh, and don't take the gondola up. That's a rip-off.

  • 4/5 Jennifer N. 4 years ago on Google
Beautiful and good place to walk around. It is nice either visiting the castle or spending time walking in the outside. Note to check the last funicular ride time, usually it ends at 6pm. It is located on a hill so that you need bus/ funicular to reach here. The view of sea is amazing but a bit windy.

Amazing cable car ride/ hike to there top, where you can enjoy breathtaking views of the city of Barcelona.

  • 4/5 Filipe V D V. 4 years ago on Google
Once you get up here from the cable car, it's pretty much relaxation and a history lesson. There is also a cafe/bar in the Fort for you to relax, although I did not use it so I can't comment on prices. But the gardens is kept neat and views are amazing. You also have the option to drive up or walk/bus it down if you don't like the cable cars.

City view is a plus. Have you got a camera then worth going up. It was an old prison long time back, you know in Barcelona there is a long history. They have it until now intact, maintain it.

This landmark fortress was built in the 17th century and overlooks the current city of Barcelona and also the port. Overall for me, the place just nice for the view to see Barcelona from high place. But for the castle itself there’s nothing to see there. I got in for free, they have free tickets in the after on several occasions. Every first Sunday of the month the entrance to the Castle of Montjuïc will be free all day.

This landmark fortress was built in the 17th century and overlooks the current city of Barcelona and also the port. The views from the fortress are incredible and the interior is quite fascinating. It’s quite easy to get there. it can be accessed by the cable car or bus, or just walk if you wanna exercise. And Top view of Barcelona.

I have going to Spain since 1993 and never went there. Don't ask me why.... The place is fantastic and the views from there are spectacular. A must see place when visiting Barcelona.

Skyscraper is spectacular. It’s worth visiting to see old buildings and armored batteries. Inside the castle is very clean and tidy. You can tour around the castle in an hour. It’ll be a bit boring for kids to look around, although there’re lots of space to run.

If you are after the views, I recommend skipping the actual castle. But for 5 euros, sure, why not. There was a bit of a queue at the ticket office but nothing scary. Most of the view is of the industrial port but you can see some nice cruise ships.

Really nice area to explore and walk around. We took the cable car to the top and walked down. Lots to see and do, places to eat ice cream and have a cold drink too. Stunning views of the port.

Really well maintained historic fort with great 360° view of Barcelona! They have a cable car ride you can use to get to the top or public transportation is available as well. We drove our car and the parking lot was large with lots of spots. Located inside is a little cafe that serves muffins and cold drinks and snacks.

Love the site location, there are not enough things to visit from the inside of the facility. The best thing about this place is the location giving you access on top of the castle to see the entire city of Barcelona. I love this place and recommend visiting it.

Lovely ride on the air tram to get there. Additional ticket to enter the castle. Excellent history displays. Amazing views of the entire city. Snacks available at vendors in the castle courtyard.

Beautiful historic fort. Has some cannons and other "big guns" that you can climb on and see the sights from. The grounds are beautifully maintained. There is also a exhibit about how the Covid pandemic affected the local area and people. We took the tram up to the fort. Be sure to pay attention to when they stop running as we got there after they were "closed" even though the cars were still going round, we were told we would have to either walk down or catch the bus. We had already walked 10 miles that day and we were not looking forward to the walk down. We did spot the bus at the stop and ran to it even though we had no idea where it would take us. Remarkably it took us about almost all the way we needed.

A great location for photos of the surrounding area including downtown Barcelona, the harbor and the sea. Consider going in the evening when the light is pretty. Prices vary - two euros in winter, none in summer. No student discount when we went there. There's a little cafe inside with very friendly staff. It has things like muffins and sandwiches and cold drinks.

After climbing Montjuïc Hill we discovered Montjuïc Castle, we had no idea the hill had this surprise waiting for us. The castle was reasonably priced. We had fun exploring this piece of history. The castle has some fantastic views of Barcelona. It was so worth the hike up the hill to see this.

This a great castle over a mountain you will enjoy the top view of Barcelona also castle was a fortress against the invasion from sea and land.. Inside, there is a nice historical museum also inside the castle there is a coffee shop... Visited via the cable car that takes you right up to the castle, permanent and temporary exhibitions that utilise the space well. A light exhibit was on downstairs when I visited, which was excellent. Visited first Sunday of the month and entry was free. Recommend buying tickets in advance and arriving early to avoid big crowds and queues. Great views over the city and plenty of information about the history of the castle.

The Montjuïc Castle is an iconic site in Barcelona, offering breathtaking views of the city and the Mediterranean Sea. During my visit, I was impressed by its fascinating history, having played a pivotal role in various historical events. The exhibitions inside the castle were informative, shedding light on its military and cultural significance. The stroll through the castle's gardens was also enjoyable, providing superb photo opportunities. It's a must-visit if you're in Barcelona, both for its historical significance and the panoramic vistas it offers.

Really enjoyed the sunshine and the sea breeze from the Montjuïc Castle. It's also offers a stunning view over the City of Barcelona as well as the cargo terminal on the other side. It is definitely a good place to go with kids and is easily accessible by Bus 150 or by cable car. The Barcelona Card grants you complimentary access. I just wish I had more time to explore the area.

Nice view, nice experience. The castle a little old but that's okay because the view was perfect. For me, I can stay there for view hours just to see the view again and again. Friendly staff also.

Definitely worth the visit. You can get the cable car up the mountain and have some stunning views of the city just to have this beautiful castle greet you at the top. It has some great history and there are some good museum style things inside which tell you more about its history and different wars / battles that have occurred over the fort. Lovely cafe with outdoor seating in the courtyard of the fort, and there are toilets etc inside. When we visited there was also a lightshow in the basement which was definitely worth the visit. Definitely go! You can buy tickets in advance but the queue wasn't very long and they are the same price.

The castle, perched on Montjuïc Hill, provides a unique blend of military heritage and panoramic views of the city and the Mediterranean Sea. The well-preserved fortress offers insight into Barcelona's past, including its role in various historical events. The strategic location allows visitors to appreciate both the architectural significance of the castle and the stunning surroundings.

The view from the castle is absolutely amazing! The castle itself although is also nice, it's kinda empty and not much to see inside. Basically you pay 14 euros just for the view over the port and the city.

  • 2/5 Marcel B. 4 months ago on Google
Not so bad but the ticket price is far too high for what you can see. Better just go up there walk around the castle and enjoy the view. Seems like the price for an online ticket is less.
