I cannot even express how bad this hotel is, I wouldn’t even know where to begin. We had to wait 40 minutes to check in as the night staff member had gone awol - at this point we should of spun around and left as I feel like this was our warning, but we checked in and that’s where it all went rapidly down hill. No help with cases, just handed a key and told what room number, very unwelcoming. Anyway, first night… Noisy rooms with traffic and sounds of hot tubs all night, walls are paper thin so you can hear everything, the blinds are like shop shutters which are incredibly loud. Despite the noise, we have the privacy issue where we had men staring into our rooms (two female travellers), the neighbour next door at one point had his head around our balcony …this was addressed to the receptionist which didn’t care. The room smelt so bad, mix of sewage and damp - we wanted to change rooms (at a cost to us) but the hotel was allegedly at full capacity and the only other option was a room half the size of our current room - We were offered “free breakfast” to compensate for the smell of the rooms and told they can add an air-freshener to mask the smell. Little things such as no kettle in the room, a struggle for clean towels, cleaner came as and when they felt and didn’t clean the sheets just done the bed up and give fresh towels, no greeting from any staff all incredibly miserable, lifts were a nightmare as there is only 2 and they stop on every single floor, spa was dirty and no facilities worked, air con was poor and only one vent worked, I could continue all day writing this but probably fall of deaf ears and the damage is already done, I wouldn’t return if someone paid me to stay there, I can imagine a Spanish prison is more appealing. If you wish to sunbathe - good luck, there’s very limited beds and majority of them are broken, again this was addressed to the hotel which again, didn’t care. There was many people complaining and the staff were like robots saying the same usual “I will speak to my manager” I would say this is a 2/3* at most, our room overlooked a youth hostel which had people staring in to constantly, so our blind had to be put down at all times blocking all natural sun light, we were told by the rude manager that we are the only people to ever complain about the blinds which I found really hard to believe. The roof top pool would be a perk if there was enough sunbeds to cater for the guests. But there isn’t, so it’s like sunbed wars which isn’t something I’ve ever experienced in a 5* We requested a late check out but again, couldn’t be done as it’s subject to availability, despite this being requested weeks in advance. The late checkout would be for travelling convenience , not because we wish to stay longer, as we actually cannot wait to leave and never have to return to that hotel again. On a whole, Nothing really can be done, it’s very much tough luck once you’re there and we are very happy to be leaving, the negative reviews are very accurate and we wish we read them more thoroughly before booking. Everything and I mean everything is an additional charge, which would be fine if the facilities were anything other than mediocre, having to pay extra for a room that’s not noisy and doesn’t smell shouldn’t be a thing. The pictures are very misleading and I think the staff need some serious customer service training, we were spoken to like dirt the whole duration. The lady at the rooftop pool is a credit to the hotel, other than that, there’s nothing positive to say, as the whole experience from start to finish was a joke.

Kaktus Playa is rated a 5* I don't think so. It's chaos in the dining room, not the peaceful experience I would expect. Two tables are pushed together to seat 6. See picture. It does not work as the tables are differing heights. The people who don't or can't take alcohol have to pay for their alternative. So I am paying to see drink obsessed guests take full bottles of wine out of the dining room. The food is plentiful and tasty but spoiled because it is only lukewarm. In some cases fat is congealing on the cold plates. We are English and like hot food. Some people on our coach were given a mug for Christmas. A French group had theirs put on the table immediately at evening dinner. Where is ours? We have avoided the bar because the entertainment is not our taste and the music is far too loud. The only alternative is the reception area but sadly the noise is still there. A small snug area with light music would be appreciated perhaps a piano or guitar player. Therefore you have lost our business, and the dartboard brings it down to a Working Man's Club. The fighting, arguing and loud bad language in public areas add to that. We have an unfinished concrete pillar in our room. We are hoping it's not the kind of concrete which is crumbling. It makes our room look shabby. The column also stops the toilet door closing properly. We were sad to see no grab rail in the shower. Our travel company had previously emailed the hotel to ask for a walk in shower as I have a recently replaced knee. There is no non slip mat either, but we were given extra fabric mats to help in case I slipped. However the service lady takes them away! The Nespresso does not boil water enough for making tea. I had enquired previously about this and was assured we could make tea. No we can't. We have had a few maintenance issues, but they were dealt with promptly and efficiently. After a busy few days we finally decided to put the TV on. We noticed last week there was no control box but as we didn't use it, did nothing until today. We left reception and when we got to our room someone was already moving our possessions looking for the control box. WE HAD TOLD THE RECEPTIONIST THERE WASN'T ONE. Nobody should have come into the room to touch our things until we were there. Of course - she couldn't find it. However, the next day after being out, we were told they have put a control box in our room. Thank you. We hear a lot of noise from the room upstairs. They move around the room with clogs on their feet. They are always dragging furniture along the floor. Perhaps this is an issue throughout the hotel. We were disappointed to find we had to pay extra to use the indoor pool as we had been lead to believe it was included. And it's expensive. ALL staff are considerate and helpful including the room servicing staff. The hotel is beautifully clean.

We paid extra for a “Mediterranean Room with Balcony sea view”. The pictures of the room on the website do not reflect the real view- a disappointment. You have to bend your head outwards to see a part of the sea. It is a partial sea view. We woke up at 5:30 in the morning with the shower noises from the room next door. The bathroom is apparently adjacent to the bed. And the walls are very thin. However, the hotel is very clean and the breakfast was great.

Lovely hotel and staff. Modern rooms with T.V,ensuite, nespresso coffee machine and a safe for personal belongings to be locked away. Food is plentiful, varied and displayed really well. Loved the evening entertainment every night . Outdo pool i and the jacuzzi s really fab too. I also really liked Calella , plenty if shops and cafe bars with food. I'm going back next year.

Upon arrival, the room that was sold as a "standard double room" was actually two single beds pushed together with nothing to join them. I spoke to reception, who confirmed this would be the same in all standard rooms. They sent a maid up to the room who wrapped the two beds in a duvet, as if that could solve the problem. The air conditioning didn't work properly, only one vent was working near the door, the main vent in the room did not work in the 33 degree heat of Spain. When in the shower, I turned around and the shampoo and shower gel containers were completely empty, no washing your hair, or anything else for that matter. The mini fridge also wasn't working, we looked around, but there were no buttons or anything. Finally, I had one of the worst nights of my life. The walls and ceiling at the hotel are cardboard thin, every step, every conversation, every movement the upstairs guests made could be heard in the room as if they were in there with us, such poor structure for a hotel, really appalling. We could not sleep until 4am. We went down to reception to talk about all this, but the shift had changed and, unfortunately, the night receptionist could barely understand any english, so he just looked at us with a blank expression, unable to understand. The next morning we asked for an early cancellation, but as it was a 3rd party booking, they couldn't help. We were so tired after the nightmarish night we had, all we wanted was to leave and find a place to rest. This is a two star hotel at best.

Highly recommended! It’s my first time in Spain and at first I had a very bad experience with a previous hotel so I proceeded to change and check in with Kaktus playa hotel, I’ve been so happy to have found this amazing hotel. Rooms are modern and clean, bed is so comfortable and big, staff are so nice and helpful! I would like to thank the staff for this amazing experience because they have helped me a-lot and have provided me all of the information needed.. they where also very understanding for my troubles with the payment and haven’t been treating me unfairly, they don’t make me feel like a thief and makes me at ease! Unlike the previous hotel which I will not mention.. their rooftop is amazing the infinity pool has a great vibe in the evening, u can also have drinks and chill.. I’ve also had some heath issues and they try to provide me with honey and warm water which is very thoughtful.. I simply can’t complain about anything! The beach is very near its a 2-3 min walk . Swimming pool is very clean and nice ! One of the best hotels I’ve visited so far, and from now on I’m also going to come back here everytime I visit Spain. Very valuable of money. Thank you so much for everything!

Lovely hotel with friendly staff who greet you at the reception and in the dinning Hall with a hola and a smile , food was outstanding and had a vast choice at all times , room was nice and tidy and clean and towels changed daily , great location and because of this you expect a little bit of noise which is out the hotels hands. Would recommend and come back again to this hotel and Calella no problem. Keep up the good work

Quite a money-grabbing hotel, it is off-putting. They will try and charge you for everything. We were made to pay for more water as well as more coffee in the room (you are only given 2 coffee pods for the whole stay). You have to pay an additional amount to use the pool bar at the top of the hotel, (which is just a pool, no bar or music or anything that adds character - it's not worth the money.) Our room view was opposite an apartment with a man staring into our room creepily the whole time. When we asked to switch rooms for safety (we were just two girls), we were told we would be charged to move. This is not five-star service. Some receptionists were quite rude to us too, with only a few who treated us well. Additionally, the rooms have an open-plan bathroom, which is awkward when you are sharing with someone else. The toilet is practically in the bedroom with just a small sliding partition between bed and toilet. It is very uncomfortable. The AC is bad quality and takes forever to cool the room - which is uncomfortable in the hot summer. When you ask for water to cool down you are then made to pay for it. Decor is a bit outdated in the dining area and downstairs. Only 2 lifts which are very slow, so you have to wait a long time to go up and down. If you have stayed at a true 5-star hotel before, you will be very disappointed with this place. It is average. I will say however, it is a very clean hotel and the breakfast buffet has a great selection. Pool bar is nice. Location is great, with super quick, easy access to the beach and nearby restaurants and bars. Just be careful at night as the neighbourhood feels a little unsafe in areas.

We have been guests at this hotel for 22 years. The equipment is very attractive. Breakfast and dinner are excellent and the staff ist very friendly. Unfortunately, the organization of the room service only worked from the third day because the room was not noted in the cleaning plan! Neverless we will gladly come again!

Small rooms, very uncomfortable bathroom and sink, despite cleaning room was dirty and dusty, air conditioning was not functioning properly, wars robe had no doors, and could not be closed.
No shadow, umbrella at swimming pool area. No private beach, very expensive and uncomfortable.

This is max 3 starts hotel, but not 5. Not recommended.

My wife and I stayed here several weeks ago. I got a bad case of food poisoning (from a meal at the poolside) during my stay. Part way on our return to the UK I felt so ill we had to divert to a hospital in southern France.I was in hospital in Valence for 3 days, and my wife had to find a hotel on her own. When I had recovered sufficiently we had to make our way home by train. I consequently Iwould never visit this hotel under any circumstances.

Rooms are very clean and modern reception staff are very friendly and helpful. The pool has very limited sun coverage they do however have a roof pool unfortunately to use this as a guest is €20 per person which to me seems excessive. The food was good at the hotel and the lady who greeted you as you entered the restaurant each morning and evening was very friendly and welcoming.

Nice and modern hotel with a good standard, but don't expect any privacy as the toilet is placed in a closet with a glass door next to the bed. They also charge extra money for access to the roof top swimming pool which is not worth it in my opinion. The aircondition works great. Awesome breakfast and dinner buffet. About 5-10 minutes walk from the beach.

From the moment we entered, the Reception staff were friendly & helpful. Rooms very clean. We decided on Bed & Breakfast, as wanted to try other restaurants in Calella. The breakfast choice was absolutely amazing. Enjoyed our drinks at Pool Bar.

Room is clean and nicely decorated with balcony. But there was no kettle. At the restaurant for breakfast there was no clear guide for vegetarian options.

We had extraordinary week in Kaktus! Where to start? We wanted calm week with our 4 months old daughter with all the necessary comfort and we got it! We were there in the beginning of June, so the hotel was not full at all. 👍 Our room was clean and even that we had windows heading to the street there was no noice. 👍 Pool was nice and water refreshing 👍 The highlight of the hotel was definitely very nice staff and the food, which was extraordinary. We really enjoyed every single breakfast and dinner and tasted almost everything they prepared for us. 🤝I wouldn’t say that it is five star hotel but definitely you get what you payed for. What was wrong? 👎 The gym is a joke. Like really joke. 👎 Kettle and tea in the room is something extra? In five star hotel? Ok then. 👎 Maybe I missunderstood the informations about the beach, but I expected that they have their own beach bar with sunbeds and umbrellas for minor fee. But they only had a partner beach club and it was not cheap at all.

Really nice place, I felt like at home, everyone was very friendly and nice. Especially waiters that work in the Lounge, Roger was really nice and helpful. There are some small things to improve but overall everything was good.

This is my first 5 stars hotel that made me spend 40 minutes to find a parking spot for my car while my wife carried our 4 pieces of luggage by her own to our room (keeping an eye on our 6 years old daughter at the same time) because there was no available staff to help her. They say there's a private parking nearby meaning that you have to park on the street in a pay area. Try to find a free spot in a beach town in august! It has 2 lifts in a 7 story building with 200 rooms. Expect big queues at breakfast and dinner times. The staff is kind but it is very reduced for the size of the hotel. Do not expect your used dishes will be removed at the self service restaurant before you leave your table. And if you want to use the lockers for your luggage after checking out, you have to pay 2 € per locker (cabin luggage size). Again, no staff to help you and only 1 lift goes down to the basement where the lockers are, so big queues after checking out. No 5 stars service at all.

The hotel and the service is very nice, everyone is very friendly. The rooms are pretty and modern. The TV has no Netflix or Amazon Prime and also no plug in for a fire TV stick, that's sad. Also the spa could be bigger. The restaurant is very big and the food is so delicious. The service at the pool bar is slow and sometimes you have to say more than ones what you want to drink/eat or you wrong things you didn't order. But all in all the hotel is very nice, I definitely recommend it.

Kaktus Playa surpassed my expectations in all facets. The location is great, very close to the beach. The reception staff was very friendly, professional, and incredibly accommodating. I needed to leave a bag with them for two days after checking out and they didn’t hesitate to say yes to my request. The room was fantastic, very spacious, modern, clean, with an incredible balcony with a view of the pool. The shower was very comfortable and the water pressure was great. Their sauna area is INCREDIBLE, with a pool, jacuzzi, dry sauna, and wet sauna. You can reserve all of this for just two people for a very low price. The best part was the buffet, maybe only available for the IronMan event, not sure. Regardless, the plethora of options was almost overwhelming. And the service was spectacular. And the rooftop pool is to die for. An incredible view of the lighthouse, beach, and sunset. We will definitely be coming back here when we visit Calella.

Great hotel that’s recently been renovated. Lovely views from the posh rooms. Not that I was in one of those, I just got to have a look! Breakfast spread very good. Highlight was jelly in a cocktail glass- perfect Ironman food. In other words breakfast spread was strange.

This hotel is immaculate! The staff are friendly, and the whole building has been recently renovated and looks incredible. The room we stayed in was beautiful and had a great view of the sea. This will forever be one of my favourite hotels!
