Not welcomed for tourists.. I have been 30 minutes in northern Mitrovica and been followed and almost attacked by 8 ultranationalists .. so if you are a tourist better no to go to any serbkosovarian area.

Interesting statue in tbe sense that Serbians like to think he was a martyr while in reality the guy simply lost the battle against the Turks which would ultimately cost Serbia its autonomy. Not only this constructed myth is interesting, but also that alongside the Serbian prince, the Albanians, Bosnians, Hungarians and Bulgarians fought. Not just Serbians. Which makes the claim for Kosovo quite ridiculous. All in all, the statue isn't interesting, but the history, the myths and lies surrounding the statue make it quite interesting and worth getting to know to understand more about some of the irrational mindsets in the region.

Capital monument dedicated to the Great Prince Lazar. Located at the main roundabout in Kosovska Mitrovica, it has becamo main landmark od the city. The statue is about 8 meters tall, pointing to Gazimestan, a place where the Great Battle of Kosovo took place between the Serbs and conquering Ottoman Empire.

Lazar was killed at the Battle of Kosovo in June 1389 while leading a pan-Christian army assembled to confront the invading Ottoman Empire, led by Sultan Murad I. The battle ended without a clear victor, though both sides endured heavy losses, which were more devastating for the less numerous Serbs and their Christian allies.
