I
was
recommended
to
Susan
by
a
dear
friend.
I
was
at
my
wits’
end
as
my
39-year-old
relationship
had
hit
a
really
rough
patch
with
communications
that
were
chock
full
of
irritations
and
negatives.
I
was
seriously
considering
throwing
in
the
towel.
I
initially
saw
Susan
alone,
but
she
advised
that,
if
I
was
seriously
considering
finding
out
the
source
of
our
problems,
we
needed
to
attend
couples
therapy
if
we
wanted
to
salvage
our
relationship.
As
the
saying
goes,
“it
takes
two
to
tango”.
Having
clicked
with
Susan
from
the
get-go,
I
knew
immediately
we
would
be
in
safe
hands.
Thankfully,
my
partner
was
very
open
to
couples
therapy.
Susan
quickly
identified
each
of
our
triggers
and
gave
us
a
reading
list
each
week
so
that
we
could
better
understand
our
negative
approaches
and
reactions
to
each
other.
We
got
down-and-dirty
to
examine
our
personal
identities,
and
showed
us
a
better
understanding
of
what
makes
up
each
other’s
psychology.
It
only
took
a
few
sessions
but
we
finally
“got
it”.
We
are
communicating
so
much
better
and
we
try
to
avoid
sweating
the
“small
stuff”.
We
have
a
more
positive
reaction
to
each
other’s
little
quirks
and
we
now
laugh
a
lot
of
it
away.
We
have
learnt
to
approach
each
other
with
more
respect.
As
required,
we
find
that
we
can
turn
on
our
“ambassadors”
and
avoid
going
into
combat
over
the
most
trivial
of
issues.
Sure,
we
still
have
our
arguments,
but
we
now
have
the
tools
to
stop
them
in
their
tracks
and
not
allow
them
to
escalate.
We
both
carry
Susan’s
sage
words
in
our
heads.
Having
just
passed
our
40-year
anniversary
of
a
‘non
married’
relationship,
we
feel
it’s
been
a
wonderful
achievement
to
click
over
four
decades.
Some
say
you
can
get
less
time
for
murder.
Ha!
Thanks
so
much
Susan
for
leading
us
down
the
path
towards
a
healthy
and
happy
relationship.
