This restaurant was recommended by my hotel when we asked for the best restaurant in Manaus for high end food. At 7, we were the first in the restaurant, but it filled up completely by 8 with a very smart, yet casual crowd. We ordered as much as our tummy’s could handle. I wish I could taste everything. Our bill came to R$350 for 2 people. This is very expensive for Manaus in general but we wanted to pay it. Ceviche, shrimp pastries, filet mignon and a fish dish that was wow. The steak is a bit tough in Brazil, so it doesn’t melt in your mouth. Our dessert was recommended by the waitress and we were so pleased. I don’t have the name- something along the lines of a creme caramel.

Caxiri is located near the Teatro Amazonas, which is in the beautiful historic downtown area. If you are lucky enough you get a seat by the window and you get a great view of the Opera House. We had the tapioca sticks that came with honey and a very tangy and spicy sauce. They were so scrumptious! We also shared the queijo coalho, which is a light Brazilian cheese on a crostini infused with olive oil and topped with garlic and jambu leaves. In the mean time we enjoyed our meals with a pairing of cachaça de jambu e melado de cana and another cachaça with cupuaçu which were both amazing!! If you want tambaqui try the costela de tambaqui with farofa de paçoca, banana and green beans. My husband had the special meat of the day and it was a T-bone steak which he mentioned was cooked perfectly. Paired with mashed potatoes and farofa. The service was a bit lacking and unfriendly. Not impressed. But the food quality is so amazing and the drinks so well prepared that it's worth it!
