Lovely restaurant with a very interesting menu! We shared the melted cheese bread boule as it was so big, and glad we did as it was delicious and enough for 2. We've decided to go back, again, on our short visit to York as we liked it so much. Our server, Olivia, was a super star: fast, efficient, knowledgeable and a great laugh, a real breath of fresh air. Prices were great and all'in-all a wonderful experience.

Stumbled across this place on a mini stay-cation to York. Dog friendly, amazing vegan options, very informative staff clued up on all the food we enquired about. Cosy place. Food absolutely delicious ☆☆☆☆☆

Fantastic. Great food, great service and a very warm ambient atmosphere! Spotless toilets with awesome soap from the Scottish soap company. Will be back and try the hanging kebabs! Price wise great!

Nice place to have drinks with friends. We stayed for a meal and ordered a selection of food. For the meat eaters, the choices were great and the portions were plentiful. Some of us opted for the superfoods salad as vegetarians, with one ordering smoked trout on the side. The salads came and was somewhat disappointed. We initially asked the waitress if we could swap the cottage cheese with halloumi. She went to the kitchen to confirm but they said no. It left us feeling surprised as they already had halloumi on the menu, but they couldn’t spare a couple of cubes on our salads. The waitress said the halloumi was allocated to the hanging kebabs and the chefs wouldn’t be happy if we kept changing items on the dish! I was a little astounded, as working in hospitality, you would want to keep customers happy so they keep returning. Anyway, we left it with the team. When our salads came, it looked like they ran out of food! There was barely much on the plate. The superfoods salad was £11.95, plus an extra £3 for smoked trout. We made a comment to the waiter about the amount of quinoa/black rice in the plate (hardly much!!) and he said he would go back in the kitchen to get some more. Minutes later, a small bowl appeared. The extra quinoa was shared between 3 people, so effectively a large tablespoon each! The salad actually tasted delicious, but wasn’t enough to warrant the price! If you are a veggie, I would NOT recommend you choose this dish. It spoiled our evening a little as we left hungry. The waiting team was friendly enough, but couldn’t justify leaving a tip!

Came here for a Sunday lunch and were not disappointed. Extensive menu, great mock tails, food was very good!! Staff were friendly and attentive. The building and decor are lovely, and very tastefully designed. They have lots of seating across two floors and many rooms. Would recommend if you’re staying in York.

Yes! Yes! Yes! In my opinion the Botanist is one of the best restaurants in York. This two floor restaurant provides a beautiful garden-esque vibe and friendly service to boot. The menu has options for both meat eaters and vegetarians alike. Their kebabs are one of the restaurant's highlights so try that out if you can.

Came here for a Sunday roast based on a food blog compilation I saw. Was not disappointed. The cutest interior, nice staff, and great selection of roast options (classic beef, lamb shoulder, roast chicken, pork belly, or even a great veggie compilation for the vegetarians). It’s definitely served a little bit more modern style, which I liked. I suppose the beef could have been a bit thicker and redder, but I think that would be my American preferences showing. Otherwise everything was tender, perfectly cooked, and delicious! Those crispy baked potatoes and minted greens were also phenomenal.

Highly recommend a visit to The Botonist. The food and drink were fantastic. The Hanging Kebab is a must. Our waitress Chloe was amazing. She looked after us, made some fabulous recommendations for both food and drinks that were spot on. Thank you

We celebrated a birthday on a Friday evening and it's the perfect venue. Great options on the menu, gorgeous cocktails and it's clearly a popular venue. There was security on the door on busy evenings, I would recommend to book in advance. The bar area is dog friendly but very busy on a Friday and Saturday evening. We had the most friendly and attentive waiter, didn't catch his name but he was American. He really looked after us and nothing was too much trouble. I would recommend the platters.

I absolutely love The Botanist, and York Botanist did not disappoint! Popped in on a miserable Saturday for a quick one, and returned later in the evening for a good night with live music. Would definitely return. As many Botanist do, it does get busy, but for what it offers I don’t mind waiting a few extra minutes to be served, the staff were very friendly too, and although they was busy and constantly on the go - they never showed any kind of negative attitude. (I also had about 8 cocktails off the menu and every single one was 11/10)

My husband and I had a lovely dinner here for our anniversary this last week. Fern, our waitress, was lovely - very polite, welcoming and attentive. The food was very tasty, especially my bang bang cauliflower wings (my husband was very sorry he hadn't ordered them as well though he did really enjoy his lamb kofta hanging kebab!). A selection of different options for vegans like myself, including a delicious banoffee sundae! We'll no doubt be visiting the restaurants in Chester and Warrington in the future (closer to where we live). Thank you for a lovely evening.

Lovely place to spend our anniversary meal. Warm and cosy with brilliant service. Food was spot on and delicious. Also, thank you for the glasses of prosseco to celebrate our wedding anniversary. A nice touch 👌

Mike was our waiter, he was really friendly and knowledgeable. We loved our hanging kebabs, the chips were delicious, and the peach cookie dough pudding! Live music added to the atmosphere and we had a really lovely evening. It was our first visit, but we would definitely visit again.

Wonderful place. Fantastic staff and very comfortable place to eat and drink. We both had a kebab which was superb. The cocktails there cannot be missed. Have a few and relax. We were greeted with a smile and our waitress was wonderful. Top of the game. All in all excellent. Would definitely recommend and come again

Definitely 5 stars. The interior is incredibly atmospheric and perfect for a date or just a nice evening in general. The staff was lovely and the food delicious. Wasn't overly expensive either, especially considering its central York location. A must visit for those coming to York.

Awesome atmosphere, great drinks and delicious food! Was looking for a place to eat close to the cathedral and this one caught my eye. Was not disappointed! Bloody Mary was amazing, calamari was perfectly cooked, and the vegetarian wellington perfect. Would definitely go again!

Beautiful food, staff are very polite and friendly, very helpful. Lovely setting, great pint. Average prices for a really good meal. Definitely will be coming back. Try the hanging salt pepper pork belly....wow. Pil Pil was beautiful. One gripe, flat bread a bit overpriced, although very tasty with the garlic dip.

Food was great. However, if you would like to enjoy the French style meal then I would recommend here. We spent 3 hours for a lunch. Starter - 1 hour Main - 1 hour Dessert - 1 hour The staffs were terrible. They don’t serve you until you keep asking.

Main course was lovely, sharing hanging kebab, with an extra side of mac N cheese, pudding was a let down, cookie dough, it was extremely salty, I was even crunching on salt! We did complain and got refunded which was appreciated. service was also on the slow side.

We went for a family dinner and we're not disappointed. The menu does feel somewhat corporate, but the staff are very friendly and attentive. This is a great place to go if you like cocktails, as their menu is vast. There is a bar separate from the restaurant, almost making it feel like two places. It works well. The children's menu went down well with my daughter. Otherwise, food tastes fresh and is cooked to order. I'd recommend booking as they seemed quite busy. Thanks for a nice evening.

I came here with some family, it always has a nice environment although near the bar area can be a little loud for my liking, they had a live singer playing connected to speakers so people sat upstairs could still hear. I ordered the vegan version of katsu curry which had breaded sweet potato and I would definitely order it again. For dessert there was a vegan banana and caramel sundae.

We had a bottomless brunch here last weekend. There was a nice atmosphere and drinks were kept topped up. Sadly there were a few things not available on the brunch menu & a couple of drink options not available either. The French toast was pre-made and arrived cold which was a shame. The staff are very friendly though ☺️

Food was really good. We had the salt and pepper wings and garlic bread for starters. They tasted amazing would definitely recommend and our mains equally as good we had fish and chips and the crispy chicken burger. Our waiter was Mike and his service was incredible Couldn’t fault him. Very friendly, attentive and helpful. Also the cocktails were so good. Overall our experience was lovely!! Would recommend 😁

Went for a hen-do with 11 of us and got the private greenhouse style room which was beautifully decorated. Staff were attentive, food was delicious and had good-sized portions and drinks were tasty

Went for my 40th Birthday, I'm not super keen on the botanist brand but having worked in hospitality I know a good restaurant and this is a good restaurant, the reason for this is the staff, everyone was friendly and welcoming, especially our waitress whose name I didn't get but was from Newcastle (despite my wife not recognising the accent!) She was excellent throughout, very helpful, attentive and great product knowledge. I hope this girl is well looked after as I know that finding staff this good is super tough in the current climate. Food was very tasty and we even got a free dessert as it was my 40th which was a nice touch

Best bottomless brunch in York! Came here for my friends hen party last week and was amazed by the selection of food on the bottomless brunch menu. It’s very different to other places where you can build your board. Absolutely delicious overall. Drinks come full to the brim which are soon replaced with new ones thanks to the great service. I’d like to mention Mike here, he served us and was outstanding, always made sure we had drinks and you were never waiting ages for a top up or to try & grab someone’s attention. Overall, as a group of 9, we were very impressed with our visit and my friend (the bride) was happy with the chosen brunch which she didn’t know she was going to! Thank you for a great visit, we will be back soon!
