Been at this place for the first and last time. In all my life eating out, I never experienced anything like this and to be honest I didn’t know it was allowed. My partner booked a table on the 10/12/2022 for 4 people at 3pm (2 adults and 2 teenagers), a £40 deposit was required. When we arrived the pub was packed (we hardly could move), and we couldn’t find our table (there were cards with the names that tables were assigned to, but we needed to get close to be able to read). All tables were taken and finally we noticed some guys left our table. The table was dirty and with only 3 chairs. We were told by a not too well dressed waiter (he was collecting glasses with his fingers inside the glasses and I hope he was washing his hands every time he was going to the kitchen) that we needed to use the app. When trying to order, the app doesn’t ask anywhere for our details so it can deduct the deposit when paying (it looks more like a scam), my partner had to go and order on the busy bar. It taken for ever for the starters to come, they were disgusting (frozen food that you can get from Tesco). The dip fried mushrooms were watery inside, the chicken wings were burned, and my cauliflower wings was frozen, no one around to help. I had to go to the bar that we hardly could move. When I pointed out to the girl behind the bar that my starter was frozen (not presentable dressed), her reply was “oh s**t” - very vulgar. It taken about 10 minutes to get the starter back and it was disgusting, it was burned and tasteless (see picture). Eventually a waiter with an England T-shirt top came around to clean the plates and asked if we were having main courses (staff doesn't seem to know what's going on). The main courses have taken forever to come, and everything was so tasteless (I was concerned that we may get food poisoning). It doesn't seem to be any care or safety for your customers. The food standards doesn't seem to be up to standard and the staff aren't (in my opinion) presentable to interact with your customers. Your staff came across untrained and it looked that they have no conditions to work.

definitely not the kind of place you want to go for a meal. staff were completely useless, we booked for 7 people and they weren’t even aware of the booking. also they brought over the starters and just left them on the table, clearly had no idea what they were bringing over. definitely a pub trying to be a spoons, however food was decent and fairly priced

Unfortunately the food was terrible, I had a steak which was just full of fat. I would not of fed my dogs with it. They seriously need a new chef and buy some decent food.

Not been in this pub for while but called in on Friday, It was good to see that Phil still works there, He made us both feel very welcome ,excellent bar service and the drinks were a good price .Even though we didn't eat there the food looked nice and we will probably try it the next time we call in

Worst Sunday lunch I have ever had. Took 45 minutes to come out, when it arrived it had one tiny roast potato, the mash was hard and hardly edible, bits of wafer thin Turkey, gravy was ok but cold, the best thing on the plate was one tiny stuffing ball. I’ve seen bigger child’s meals. Dreadful… completely.

Went in for some food after a day out. Service was very good and the food was very nice. Great selection and good value for money. Definitely return again

Found this place by accident and glad we did, the food , atmosphere and service was second to none, I believe this is under new management and they are going out of there way to make the place fantastic. Will definitely be visiting this place again.

A very tidy, clean pub on a busy street. Nice seating areas and big wide screen tv’s for the sport. An ideal place to go and watch football with a pint.

The best pints of Guinness I’ve ever had served by Jacob and Andy. The staff are extremely welcoming, I highly recommend stopping by, we’re hoping to get back again before we leave Manchester 🙂

Attended for a wedding reception in the upstairs. Nice sized room with its own bar, a separate outdoor smoking area and separate room for buffet. Handy parking across the road in the Manchester Arndale

They’re back!! When I say the BEST chicken wings, I mean THE BEST! Carolina reaper & black garlic - you can get these as 10 or 1KG! They are not for the faint hearted, very spicy but so tasty! IN ADDITION TO THIS REVIEW THAT I LEFT, we’ve now been back FOUR times and been told each time that the sauce is actually “out of stock” - absolute disgrace.

Decided to call in on spur of moment. So glad we did as from the moment we entered, we were greeted by friendly staff and made to feel very welcome. We ended up staying much longer than we had anticipated. Eventually ordering food which was fabulous. I personally haven't been in a pub for 7yrs plus. However I/ we do intend to call in again soon just for the Sunday lunch we noticed others were ordering. We had a double cheese burger with chips. Absolutely bang on! Chatted to people we probably won't meet again but, what a lovely day. Cheers guys for making feel so relaxed. See you soon when I have time off work. Anyone reading this, call in. Especially for the sports TV and friendly service....

Came in here just before going into the cinema. Came for a burger and a pint, both were great. Burger was to die-for. Loads of taps to choose from also. Lota of nice "nook and cranny" seating areas with TVs in the booths and larger main sitting area.

Smother chicken burger was amazing!! Great place, traditional yet trendy. Will definitely be back when we’re next in Manchester. Staff so lovely too!!

Don't get a cask from here - chances are it will be off. I returned one that tasted sour and the manager said "can't just change it" after I asked to change it. After smelling it he agreed to change it to a different cask which was also dead. Stick to keg if you go here. It's a nice bar but I won't be returning

Good spot to catch f1. Great crowd show up and good vibe. My complaint is - they have a single sound system. Aside from the “main screen” in the corner, all the rest were showing f1 and had table full of f1 crowd, but later they had the football sound on for the whole pub. Still would recommend.

My party of 15 had Christmas dinner yesterday afternoon. We were in the room upstairs so we had plenty of room. The food was delicious and nice and hot, the service was brilliant nothing was too much for the staff. Overall a lovely afternoon enjoyed by all with good food in nice surroundings. Thank you English Lounge 👍 🌟

Our review is a little bit late! We had our wedding reception in July in the upstairs bar, the staff and manager were brilliant, we had an amazing evening, thank you! Everyone raved about the bar and food, they loved the buffet! It ended up getting booked by one of the guests for their 30th. 100% recommend. Thank you English Lounge 🙌🏽

Decent pub. Great mid shopping pit stop for a beer. Average city centre prices and average selection of ales and beers. Has been refurbished so feels a little more modern. I especially enjoy the little balcony / terrace that is tucked away at the back upstairs.

Classic pub with friendly and fun staff. The quiz seemed like a laugh we had arrived too late but still enjoyed the banter. Food was traditional pub fare, fresh and tasty. Cute little hidden garden upstairs.

I've visited the English lounge on a few occasions. It's a bit rowdy at times, especially when the footballs on. How ever, it's still a nice pub and their Sunday Roast was spot on. There is a upstairs smoking area, with a open topped roof. Also in a good location. I definitely recommend.

Went in for afternoon dinner,, really nice had the hunters chicken chips and peas. Nice food lovely clean place. Just we ended up moving out own plates as they were on the table for a good half hour, when we finished. It wasn't really busy either

I like this pub. The bar is lovely and clean and the staff are excellent and friendly. As a word of warning, if you want a real ale, there are so many better options. The selection was very limited which was a shame. Love the pub but not the ale selection sadly

Clean eating area and very friendly helpful staff. Food was good just a pity no rolls available on my visit for my lunch so had a wrap instead which isn't quite the same. Toilets very good.

A traditional pub. Excellent beer (try Doom Bar), an unusual cider (peach!), and great decor.

Booked a table a week ago (before England's first knockout game) for 5 people to watch the World Cup QF for England v France (Category: Live Sport) with a deposit. Turned up to find we had been given a table for 4 people with limited view of the game from other booth screens. This was disappointing and resulted in a few of us standing. Other than that, the atmosphere was great, and a good selection of beers and cocktails is available

Another great experience at The English Lounge… an 80th private party recently, where everyone had a great time. The staff, as always, very accommodating and nothing was too much trouble. Particular thanks to Michael, Kieron and Dannie for looking after us all.

Food is okay, not super good but acceptable! Service is very slow. Two items missing from our order and we have to wait very long to get it! But the pub vibe is very good, decoration is impressive. It's spacious as well!

Came here last November on a Sunday evening, lovely little place; the food was beautiful (I got the fish and chips and my boyfriend got the roast dinner) and we even fit in a dessert; I got the ice cream brownie sundae which was unbelievable 😍 haven’t got a great sweet tooth but I’d eat that all over again! The only thing was the music was very loud and we where placed under a speaker and could barely hear eachother talk but the lovely waitress turned it down for us. Definitely recommend!😊

Hired the function room here for a Saturday night. The room was great with it's own private bar and access to outside space. All off the staff were really friendly and helpful and the quality of the food and drink was great. Would definitely recommend.

Ok for the price, didn't have any turkey so went for the roast 'sirloin' instead of the triple roast, although it was topside and not sirloin. Tiny amount of cabbage, no peas, was supposed to be but never came. Says bottomless potatoes, came with three small ones on the plate so asked for more for the two of us came with two more roast potatoes must be one each. Yorkshire pudding was ok, roast potatoes were cooked from the freezer. Parsnip, carrot and red onion medley was an unseasoned lazy addition. Gravy was nice though.

Situated opposite the food court of the Arndale shopping centre. First visit in about 5 years. Can get very busy but fine on a Wednesday lunchtime. Had a choice of Landlord or Doom Bar; no choice really..excellent Landlord. A Moorhouses beer waiting to be ready to serve. Fairly standard food menu. £12.50 fish n chips, £12.49 pie n mash. Similar price for burgers. Well worth a visit. Two upstairs rooms and a small secret roof garden.

Not been here in awhile and it has been revamped since our last visit. It's nicely done, modern and if you get a booth each one has a TV showing the pubs choice of sport. The menu had good choices and the food was very good, arriving promptly and hot. Will definitely be returning here.
