This place is a gem located on Portland Street. We went in for lunch while waiting for our bus out of Manchester. The ambience connotes coziness. It is very large spaced area with several games to play which is ideal for parents with children. There are several smaller sitting areas/corners to choose from. They do 2 4 1 cocktails and also sharing platters. The food I found very tasty as well. Toilets are upstairs and it was pretty decent. All in all, very good value for your money.

The staff were pleasant but the drinks were extremely expensive and the food was poor.The manager said he could not show the football we wanted to see as they only had 2 sky boxes and were showing the champions league as advertised. When we purchased our drinks in another chain of pubs we got 6 drinks rather than the 4 for £5 cheaper.

Just called in for a coffee with two others whilst we were waiting for a friend. Lovely greeting from male staff member. Hand sanitiser available as was track and trace. Order taken at the table, very quick service, Lovely coffee. Very nice ambiance, clean pleasant surroundings , clean toilets. When the bill arrived I thought it was a mistake..... So Cheap!!! This was our first visit and we would definitely recommend and return.

This is in a great location Portland Street lots of TV Screens to watch the sports on My Group went in on a Saturday Afternoon just After 12 midday and was looking forward to getting something to eat. When we ask at the bar . was told by a member of bar staff that they was not serving food .when I asked way was told they had run out of plates . Well May I suggest that you get someone to move the dirty plates off the tables it was not overly busy when we walked in .

Worst breakfast I have ever had, cold bacon, not properly cooked, sausages rock hard and beans cold. Hash browns soggy, and couldn't even get a coffee with my breakfast which is stupid!!! Stay away if u want a DECENT BREAKFAST.

Rude staff, constant harassment to buy spirits. Icecream sunday flat pints. Come here if you’re trying to end up with some form of depression. Sadly I can’t rate no stars.

Brilliant staff- I was served by Wade and young woman (25th July early afternoon). I was in to see the boxing, as soon as I asked, Wade went to put it on a screen for me, but turns out it was already on! I was then moved to a table with a better view. Food was great value for money and service was excellent. Good choice of lager but could do with better selection of ales! Atmosphere was lively enough for a Tuesday afternoon. I’ll definitely be revisiting when I’m back next time I’m in Manchester.

No lemon or lime to add to your drink and the disabled toilet was disgusting no toilet roll and soap, the seat was loose. It said on the checklist it hadn’t been checked since 02.00 am it is now 19.15 in the evening and l would say it isn’t over busy, l did mention it to a member of staff but nothing happened

However, the positive impression was quickly overshadowed by the attitude displayed by your staff. They were rude and lacked basic manners, making me feel unwelcome and undervalued as a customer. As someone who frequents various bars and restaurants, I understand that busy evenings can be challenging for staff. Nonetheless, it is essential for the hospitality industry to maintain a level of professionalism and courteousness towards patrons, especially during busy times.

Top young lad served me a very tasty breakfast, very polite and helpful. The sausage was especially good. Think his name was Joe or summat. Very nice.

We used Yates for pre drinks on Saturday night as it’s always cheap and cheerful. It was busier than in the day, but not overly packed, however one female staff member was terribly rude as we ordered drinks through the app which meant she had to bring them to the table. If staff don’t like to do table service in the evening, maybe consider turning the app off after 11pm!

DON'T go for food! Myself and a couple of friend went to this place (2nd May) we ordered food and drinks from the app. The drinks arrived very promptly although there wasn't an option to add tonic to the G&T apparently so a neat gin appeared! Most of the menu was unavailable so I ordered the scampi. When the food arrived, it was "plonked" on the table in front of me with dried-out peas (that I had requested be left off) without cutlery or condiments which I had to go hunting for. The other two meals were served with similar panache a couple of minutes later by a lady in a tracksuit. The scampi was low quality and was heavily processed. Only 1 piece was cooked thoroughly, the rest were, although safe, were flaccid. No-one came to check on us even though the pub was quiet. Spend your money elsewhere! This place does not deserve it! My beer however was kept well! Possibly an OK place to go for after work drinks, but don't go to eat!

Incredibly quick service. Friendly staff. Good food menu and they do deals during the week. Great for a quick lunch and the macaroni cheese was delicious

Stopped off here on a whim, hoping for some good grub and drinks, only to find, when in the middle of ordering, they ran out of meat and half the menu. forcing us to order something different. Will say, cocktails are very strong and 2-4-1 deal is okay. Once food arrived (fish and chips) the waiter said nothing and just put them down on the table, no asking if we want any sauce or telling us to enjoy. Upon starting the meal, a mix of temperatures, peas cold but fish burning. The meal had absolutely NO flavour and was definitely all frozen. The fish was bland, the batter was chewy, powdery inside and the fish itself tasted of absolutely NOTHING. Everything store bought, the chips, cheap and nasty. The only good thing was the tartar sauce and that was disgusting.

I haven't been in Yates for years. We went on a week day in the afternoon and it was quite busy. We didn't eat there but we had drinks. I was a little annoyed that I was the only person at the bar and then a young lady came along and got servered before me. Other than that it was quite a nice place for a pint.

This Yates was a bad experience, food and drinks took about 45 min, when it came was already cold, the vegetables had a funy Taste and texture, like it was taken from a can directly to your plate. And the toiletes.... oh god... toiletes blocked, dirty smelly... Definetly not coming back

Very rude staff I visited here with a group of friends for Sunday lunch. We were four couples, and placed our food and drink orders via the app. The drinks arrived promptly. The problems started when the food was delivered. The male member of staff appeared carrying a tray of food and shouted across to us, asking if we had ordered food. I replied that we had. He then accused me of not having ordered food, and demanded to see my receipt. He stated that I apparently smirked at him and this indicated that I was lying about having placed an order! I then showed him my order confirmation on the app. It appears the meals he was carrying were not my order, but clearly would have been for one of my friends who had also placed an order on the app. We explain this to the member of staff. There then followed a ridiculous situation where he refused to tell us what meals he was carrying, even when we explained that if we knew which meals they were, we could work out who on our table the meals were intended for. We also pointed out that surely he would be able to see on the system that there had been four orders made for our table. The member of staff’s attitude was rude, bordering on aggressive. I’ve never experienced such poor service. Having ordered and paid for a meal, I do not appreciate being accused of lying. A female member of staff then appeared, looking very stressed. She was able to sort out getting the rest of our order to our table. The food was ok, although our starter were brought out at the same time as our mains. However, the appalling attitude of the member of staff completely ruined the atmosphere and experience. We just wanted to finish our meals as quickly as possible and leave. The shockingly poor attitude of your staff have now cost you 8 customers who will not be returning

Honestly the worst service you could get. 1st drink i bought the service was ok but rude barmaid. But when it should have got better it got worse. 2nd drink go to the bar and wait for over 10 minutes to be served. Not because its busy but because all the staff decided to have a social on the side of the bar, a massive group. I mean honestly customers walked out and even challenged the staff but no one cared. One staff said they started at 5 but how come the ones that finished at 5 were drinking alcohol and not serving customers before their shift ended? Chloe and abbey are just 2 that were at fault. If you run a bar like this you will not last and i am sure i will not be the only person to leave a bad review after today 8 customers saw it. I have never experienced such a poor service and staff that don't care. I would fire the lot and get staff that are professional in.

Always a good meeting point for me an the friends on a Sunday evening got my own usual drink (Kraken & Coke), second round had the same but was introduced to a different variety of drinks and shot offers by the bar man (Wade) and sold me and my friends on 'Sheep Dog with Peanut Butter ' and there was 6 of us and would recommend his advice on other verities cocktails, shots & drinks next time we come back.

Just called in whilst waiting for connecting coach we had BBQ burger and a couple of cocktails. The burger for me was cooked on the outside and anemic inside. The cocktails were disgusting syrup served in half pint glass no straws and not stirred had to ask for something to stir with the young girl who took my order gave me a tablespoon 😡. The young lady who took my order Kayley I think it was she was quiet lazy speaking and couldn't understand her however there was also another young lady with colours to her hair who also served us our food was the complete opposite she was lovely, pleasant and polite. Speaking on food 2 other ladies on a different table had to wipe their own table. I will not eat here and may I suggest customers check their food.

Ordered a bbq mac burgers they were OK but needed about 5 minutes more on the grill, cocktails are pre mixed , very sweet and served in half pint glasses. Only gave the 3 stars for service because the young lady who served our food was very polite

I'm trying to find the one word that can sum up ( disgusting ) from the ground floor to the top floor. The toilets have cameras in them??? No reason for this in my opinion. I can't comment on the food but I can't imagine it's any good and I can only think what the hygiene is like 🤢🤢

Awful food and service. Had better burgers from a burger cart at a fairground. Waitress dumped food on table and walked off. So much for hospitality service! Will never go again and will never recommend. Advice to Yates, please recruit hospitality staff that have at least some ability to interact/communicate.

Popped in for breakfast on Saturday morning before getting our coach home and OMG the food took forever (two bowls of chips) we then had to get our own selection of salt etc which should be provided with all food. We also got a coke and a coffee and received no spoon etc. Staff were friendly but that was it. A doorman seen we were not happy and helped and got everything we needed. Thank you so much to him.

It was a Monday night and order from the menu . Had the selection mix of starters. Everything seemed to be unavailable. Hunters fries with no cheese, but suggested burger cheese, which was disgusting. The deputy manager spoke to us and offered a free drink which we accepted. But the food was just sub standard, delivered on metal kitchen trays. We had a laugh about it but one to avoid. Disabled toilet was disgusting too. Anthony - additional comments - Google maps reminded me to review as such I did. I review most places we go out to. I believe this was a fair and accurate account of our visit. I mentioned you offered a round of drinks which we accepted, we did only ask for a discount from memory. I don't like complaining and to add stress to our evening by bringing up other issues was not what I wanted at the time. It was our wedding anniversary and just wanted a quick snack before going out. Not a place I would normally go out on an anniversary dinner but we were rushed and just wanted something to grab. I appreciated your offer but doesn't distract from the poor service, food quality and the state of the disabled toilet. The pub does need a good refurbishment which is out of your control, hopefully head office might respond. But you were kind, friendly and attentive. But I did feel your embarrassment for the poor standards. Not sure why food was delivered on beaten up kitchen trays? Is that the style? I hope your pub gets a good refurbishment, but in the meantime I doubt you be seeing us back. Andy

It's alright, it's a Yates at the end of the day. Sadly I popped by mid week recently ... Two doorman on duty. They just stood laughing while three drug addled middle aged men were making customers uncomfortable. As a security professional myself I can safely say they looked like homeless crack heads. I only wanted a pint. Never again, useless door staff my partner was visibly disturbed gripping her handbag and gesticulated to the door staff...nothing. Same for a couple on the table next to us. Bar staff were alright by comparison. Do better.

Nice meal had chicken burger with cheese and waffle fries with a side of onion rings food was good but they had new baps beacuse of suppliers and the bun smelt funky and was not edible🤷🏻‍♀️

Fantastic place to dine at. Staff were friendly and welcoming, the place was clean and the atmosphere was great. Looking forward to coming back next time.

We ordered food here yesterday, and would have stayed for a few pints had in not been a complete disaster. The meals that did come was lovely. However one of the meals didn’t come and instead we got burnt cheese garlic bread (normal garlic bread was ordered as a side). When we went to get this order fixed the manager was rude and unhelpful. He told us to ‘prove’ what we’d ordered but hadn’t given us a receipt. Awful customer service, avoid if you can!

Just called in for a pint with my friend whilst exploring the city, the pint was nice we didn't try the food. Bar staff very friendly and helpful, the place seemed clean and had a welcoming atmosphere. Would visit again when I'm in Manchester.

Always dark in here, not like the photo where its bright and airy. Good place to watch football. Good service and food. Beer nice and cold. Tables could be cleared and wiped down quicker otherwise a good drinking place and good for groups. Would recommend.

Good food. Had an issue with billing sorted immediately and without fault. Very much enjoyed my meal. I think everyone would be surprised by how good the food is, considering the price. A wide range of things to drink.

Visited Yates and it was quiet. Ordered coffees. Well served and quick. Decided to have some hash browns. Very nicely done. Good value for what we had, staff were happy and very accommodating. Not sure what the place is like when busy, but looks kitted out for busy nights. A disabled toilet on ground floor, however usual bathrooms are three floors up (can't get lost as it is only a staircase to the third floor).

Nice atmosphere. Good selection on beers, however no cask beer was available.

Lovely yates, decent food and service. However, twice now I have been and they have been unable to serve any food because they haven't had a delivery. I understand lack of drivers is causing issues for many pubs and restaurants, but it might be an idea to bring inside the signs advertising food. Staff were quite rude when asking when food may be served. I do know this is probably a stressful time for them, but having a sign on the door saves everyone a lot of time and effort

This was a fantastic pub to go drinking at, with a flashy counter and a stylish design including slogans on the wall. The staff were friendly and I enjoyed a pint of Strongbow Dark Fruit, sitting outside in the sun where cleanliness was being enforced!

Food poor, plastic glasses. Minimal choice of beer, wine and cocktails, ripped seats. Generally rough, but excellent company as I was with my family. Also staff were very friendly

I love Yates!!! Whether during the day, or at night, it's a great place to stop off. It's always busy, and they offer a varied menu, and the food is OK. They did have to briefly stop serving food due to staff shortages, but they were communicated well when they were able to start taking orders again. If you're looking for somewhere to have a little dance, they do have a DJ at night, and there's a small dance floor......so gets full very quickly!! Always a favourite place of mine when I'm in the area.

Had the Lasagne, which was way too gooey and couldn't taste the actual pasta. And then had the "cookie dough" dessert which isn't cookie dough like you'd expect, its just ice cream with the smallest cookie dough balls on top and not even that many, when I was expecting (from the menu) large cookie dough pieces wrapped into the ice cream

Me and my wife came here for some food with some reputational skepticism. However we were both absolutely delighted with our experience. We were served at the bar by a young lad named Oliver who provided us excellent, friendly service. Highly recommended

Went in Saturday night. Understand that plastic glasses are necessary for the type of people they get in there, but they were absolutely filthy. I had a glass of red wine, sticky to hold and lipstick round the rim. There were finger marks all over it. These cheap glasses don't last forever, they need to be renewed every now and again,

There is not much you can mess up with a English breakfast but some how they have done it. Issues started with the app not working, we could order but not pay. So went up to the bar, and preceded to order 2 full English, a traditional and 2 kids. When food arrives we have 3 traditional. I asked for the recipient and indeed it has 2 traditional at the top, and one added at the bottom. If I wanted 3 traditional I would have asked for 3 at the beginning. I had confirmed with the server 4 times as they did not seem to be getting it. Food took along time to get to the table I would 30+ min. Then when the food arrives the quality was shockingly bad. Overall a bad, toilets were clean.

We ordered food and a drink before heading to a gig on Weds. night. We went in there because we thought being fairly no frills it should be fairly quick and hassle free.. firstly, the app is ridiculous. We had to download it and it seemed.to take an age to work through the ordering and paying.. Obviously, that is not the fault of this particular bar, but that set the mood for our experience. Having finally ordered and paid, we waited for drinks.. and waited. After 20 mins, my friend went to the really busy bar to ask about them (she also only saw one person working behind it to begin with, so no wonder there was a long queue to even speak to someone). The staff member she spoke to told her that the ticket with our drinks order on hadn't printed off. The ones for customers before us and after us had though.. strange! Good job we asked!! When the food arrived, it was okay. Fairly small, quite dry chicken breast. The menu said choose a sauce. It looked like a Borrowers spoon had been used to measure it with!! It was okay and we ate it as we had no choice and were running out of time by then. We regretted going there as an easy/quick option though. The staff members we encountered were all friendly I must say. I'd only go again if I was willing to wait in line and order in person and if it was for drinks only. I'd give the food a miss.

Staff were extremely rude after us being polite, no customer service skills at all and didn’t offer to correct the order. We ordered sides of various items and they wouldn’t give them to us as they put them on top of one of the main meals however there was no extras which we paid for.

Nice pub with friendly staff and a good food and drinks menu. Allowed us to bring our small dog in.
