Excellent pub just off the popular region of Deansgate. Huge Whiskey collection, and the pub has lots of seating, private rooms and a big log fire! Alan, the manager, has such an in-depth knowledge of Whiskey - so much so he hosts public and private tastings. Myself and 4 others, paid £25 a head and had a unpeated tour of Scotland. We tried 5 drams, with a bonus one provided at the end (which Alan produces). These tastings can be tailored to your likes and requirements and Alan’s knowledge and understanding of Whiskey is unmatched. You learn so much from him! Id highly recommended- excellent Mancunian boozer all round!

Best pub in UK. Tony Wilson and New order frequented this pub, they used to hold band meetings in the back rooms, a true piece of history.

Classic, cracking and historic boozer. Surrounded by modernity it remains and retains all its majestic glory. Superb beer. Astonishing decor.

The "BP" is a Manchester institution for fans of traditional pubs. Paid a lunchtime visit when it was fairly quiet. Sat in one of the back rooms, there is a garden/yard for those that like to sit outside. Had a couple of the Saltaire bitter which was very good & went down well with the cheese pie, thick cut chips & peas. There are several pie options some of which are unusual. Nice & quiet if you like a relaxing lunchtime. Prominent position on Great Bridgwater street close to Manchester Central, Great Bridgewater Hall & Jurys Hotel. Recommended for fans of traditional pubs with plent of craft beer options not to mention large array of spirits

My son and I called in today for a drink and we ended up having lunch too. The barman was really nice and helpful too. Quiet as it was before lunch, but a great traditional British pub 🍺🍺I remember going in when I worked in Manchester about 30 years ago.

I go upto Manchester at least twice a year for a bit of disco dancing or to watch the greatest football team the world has ever seen. But there has been one pub that has eluded me in my many visits to Manchester and it's the little firecracker that goes under the name of @thebritonsprotection There are so many things to love about this Grade II listed behemoth of a public house. ▪️The multiroom madness ▪️The huge whisky range ▪️Fantastic cask selection ▪️The delicious ceiling decoration ▪️The double sided bar The absolute best thing is the warm and welcoming northern atmosphere you encounter when you walk through the door. Get yourself to this pub on the double.

This is a proper pub and what a delight to find too. The ales were plentiful in choice, kept well and more than reasonably priced. Well worth a visit as sadly pubs like this are few and far between. The atmosphere was very relaxed and the type of pub I enjoy.

Great little authentic boozer near Deansgate station. Mixed crowd of all ages in there on a Saturday night. Really enjoyed it - welcome break from the more modern / nondescript bars and pubs. Recommended pit stop if you're out and about in that part of town and like a bar that keeps it real...

Excellent Manchester pub about 20 minutes walk from Piccadilly Station. Five cask beers on handpump when I last visited including a porter. There is also a selection of up to 360 whiskeys and bourbons. Lots of outdoor seating in the garden to the rear, some of it covered. The pub is a Grade II-listed 200-year-old multi-roomed hostelry listed on CAMRA’s National Inventory of Historic Pub Interiors. It is famous for its highly ornate interior, a terrazzo-tiled corridor floor, moulded ceiling, original 1930s urinals and the serving hatch through which people in the two rear rooms are served beer from the front bar. The moulded ceiling picked out in red and gold is another feature. The name comes from the pub's history as an army recruitment venue and murals depict the Peterloo Massacre which happened nearby.

I've never had food here but it's always a nice spot for a quiet pint in town. Decent pint of Guinness and selection of whiskey. They don't play music and seem to be proud of that because it's a place to have a chat and a more traditional pub.

Full of history. A classic Manchester boozer that's under danger of redevelopment. We must keep places like this.

Another great Manchester pub with a heritage interior. 2 minutes from the Peveril of the Peak. Decent choice of real ales. Had a good chat with the landlord.

Loved my visit last night, been dying to come here for some time now and finally made it down. I think it was Dave and Justine were class bartenders and really enjoyed my chat with them both. I managed to try pretty much every single jack Daniels while I was in there and they was grand.

An absolutely amazing pub in a really core location for so many events, I can't understand why I've not been before. The selection of ales and whiskies is outstanding and prices seem decent for city centre. It's looking a little dated but also classic (with a different pair of glasses on).

Great, historic pub that still has lots of life! Would be a huge loss for Manchester if it's taken over by some faceless conglomerate. Good luck with the struggle to survive Star Group's rapacious pursuit of profit.

Mainly cask beers, although definitely one of the better traditional pubs and there are a lot of seating options available.

First drank here in 1974! Was a great Tetley pub with beers from Tetley Walker Warrington. ( Joshua Tetley Leeds was the better pint. Both breweries long gone.) The landlord was great and kept beers perfectly. He also had Lock Ins. ( Illegal after hour service.) The front bar would empty and move to the back rooms. Lights off in front and service through the hatch. You left (staggering) via the back yard gate. Been numerous times over the years and this is still one of the best pubs in Manchester. Had a lovely pint of Neptune Forecast. Long may this pub prosper.

Booked the function room for a small gathering and the venue was very accommodating provide buffet and was communicating all the way through. Was really well planned and very tasty sandwiches. Would highly recommend the venue for anyone needing venue hire to pop in for a local drink. Managers are polite and friendly and good value for money

Good pub and beer. I visited on remembrance Sunday. There was only one guy on the bar and there were at least 50 people in there battling to get served. The barman was miserable too. Maybe if the bar was adequately staffed for such a busy and popular day which happens every year, he'd have a smile and the rest of us would have had a better service.

Wonderful pub with some great whisky selections. Nipped in on a whim with a few mates and the lanky guy behind the bar was really accomodating and really looked after us. Came in on a quiet Monday so don't know what it's like when it's busy but would definitely recommend.

Nice pub but drinks selection limited. My friend wanted a spiced rum, Tiki Fire or Kraken without the coffee but they didn't have either. My cider was great though.
