Best onion rings and iron steak I had so far. I went here for work lunch. Food was great and make sure you have time because the food takes time. Iron steak came with a butter garlic sauce which was amazing. Place does get crowded during lunch on weekdays. We made a reservation ahead of time. Venue is a bit congested so I would not suggest this for large groups. Definitely going back.

Good Sunday lunch menu portions are a good size and service can be a little hit and miss although it was no busy. I have been before a few time the atmosphere was a little dull but the was because there weren’t many people around. Food great as usual I always recommend the Corned Beef Hash. Good choice of wins by the glass I can recommend the Tempranillo. Desserts are good couldn’t eat much more so shared one between us.

We went for the Sunday roast. The quality and quantity of the food was very good. While waiting for the mains we tried the whitebait and chilli chipolatas and they were amazing, indeed I think I'll be popping in for these starters and a beer more often. The service was also friendly, relaxed and professional.

Some of the recent reviews were worrying but everything was fine. The restaurant is very old school and well maintained, though the men's toilet is missing a lock. The fish and chips were good, including the mushy peas. The kids roast beef was good though portions perhaps a bit too big. My pie was probably slightly disappointing by comparison.

08/11/22: Mr. Thomas's Chop House isn't what it used to be. Ordered the Black Sheep and Mr Tom's pale ale. BOTH had soured and were not great at all. The toilets must have been a disgrace as the stench or urine had emanated up the stairs. What was once a great, old, Victorian pub is now less so. Disappointed!

One of the best sunday roasts I’ve had in a pub, and the beef is soooooo tender it literally melts in your mouth, absolutely loved it. The only thing I would mention is, £4 for a little bottle of coke?? And 13% service charge?

One of our favourite dinners in Manchester!! Very old building with lots of character. The food was delicious and very homely. We got the Steak and Ale pie and a Cottage pie, both served with cabbage. Will definitely return !!

First time visit. Lovely old pub Art Deco looking inside. Had the mushroom Wellington was lovely staff where friendly and welcoming. Only downside is toilets could do with being updated a bit smelly. But would still recommend a visit.

I visit this pub frequently because I enjoy the cozy atmosphere. However, I've only dined here once. I was in the mood for traditional pub food, and I can wholeheartedly recommend this place if you're looking for that. However, my expectations were quite high due to the relatively high prices of the main courses on the menu (in comparison to the average price of a pub meal). I ordered the Steak and Ale Pie, which was good. Unfortunately, the chips that came as a side dish with the main course weren't great. Overall, I might have rated the food more favourably if I found the value for money to be consistent with my expectations. Nevertheless, I plan to return because the service was very friendly, and the atmosphere is pleasant, even when dining alone.

Absolutely loved our visit. Like a step back in time. Good drinks and food was excellent. Bill about where we expected, wasn't overpriced.

Disappointed if I'm honest. Not been in here for 20 years but was in town and thought we'd give it a go. Fish and chips served without the peas. Steak and Ale pie a bit tough, chewy and fatty. Expected better for nearly £40 then, on top of that, they added a Service Charge for another £5 or so. Probably another 20 years before I go back. Sorry.

The venue is really nice but strangely the atmosphere is lacking. Food was good, I’d say a 7/10 but not quite enough to draw you back for a second time.

A small restaurant set back behind a bar, but don't let that put you off. Their friendly staff serve hot, tasty food of very generous portion sizes. We were very pleasantly surprised and both said we'd be back. The corned beef hash took me back to childhood! Recommended.

Travelling around Manchester and found this pub that serves Lamb Hot Pot. Absolutely delicious! The Toffee pudding is also very good, with a very strong toffee taste in it. 10/10 food!

Love the old green tiles. Traditional pub with some original chop house features.

Booked here as always enjoyed the food on previous occasions and it was close to the Opera House where we were heading. Mum had the corned beef hash which I'd recommended and she thoroughly enjoyed it and I had the lamb hotpot. This was lovely but not sure about the pickled red cabbage, left a funny taste in my mouth. We had the white zinfandel which was a beautiful rose wine and for dessert mum had the sorbet which she said was lovely and refreshing whilst I had the chocolate brownie with pistachio ice cream on a bed of roasted pistachio nuts...omg this was delicious, the brownie was all gooey inside just how a brownie should be. Service was good, friendly and informative staff. Definitely recommend this place.

Toilets are downstairs, and the smell of pee ascends to the top of the staircase! But it's Mr Thomas's! The building is beautiful and it's history speaks for itself. We didn't eat but we will next time!

Excellent service, waiter had good recommendations on drinks, food was very good. Friendly staff and no feeling of hurried out the door.

The food was delicious and every person who gave us service was absolutely charming. The only thing we didn't enjoy was the loud pop music. If you're looking for a delicious meal in a small, cute space, surrounded by friendly people - you won't be disappointed. If you're looking for the historical aspect, interesting historical architecture and atmosphere - this isn't the place for it.

Very nice and old pub, exactly what you want to see if you are searching for a pub. We had a very nice evening here after a workday. The lancashire hot pot was absolutely delicious.

Good british grub, Cornbeef hash is a classic famous dish from Thomas's and Sam's chophouses. Good solid hearty food for a cold autumn / winter times. I would agree that the rest room is a little worn out.

The atmosphere is quite nice. The service was really standing out. The taste of the food (including dessert) was the better experience I had in Manchester. Would easily give five stars, if not for the poor bathroom.

I was having dinner with my family and some friends. We were 8 people. 5 of us ordered fish n chips. A very easy dish especially for a local pub in Manchester. As we came through the door a stank of urine hit us strongly. Very unwelcoming and disgusting. The waiters were all really nice and helpful, and they really had sympathy with us while we waited 1,5 hours for the first 2 portions of fish n chips. The rest came in the next hour. Except the last portion fish and chips which we had to take to-go because it was getting too late. We got the impression that the chef was really slow and hard to communicate with. The waiters basically did all they could but the chef made it hard to appreciate the service. Although the service was lacking, the food however was amazing. We would therefore consider a visit again if the chef could up his work and the place didn’t smell like urine.

Difficult to fault this lovely traditional pub cum restaurant. Friendly staff and good beers. Seating both inside and outside if the weather suits. Not tried their food but it is highly rated for its traditional English fayre. A favourite place to drink.

👍👍 I was craving curry during my stay in Manchester. And Google suggested this place to me. It's in the centre, almost 6 minutes away from my hotel. The interior design is very hip and it has a great vibe. The music that is being played is modern. The curry was amazing. And the prices were perfect for...
