Looked nice but the staff were terrible. Very rude. We're two quiet and well dressed middle aged Dad's with our mid 20s kids. First they said, cash only. I said ok. Then they said, that's a big group, we don't have room (it was half empty). Lastly, they said nobody with sweat pants (my nephew had just been ice skating and had on sweat pants). Basically, any excuse to say NO. Rude staff. Business must be really good, too good.

Such a nice pub with cosy places to sit. I wanted to find a quiet place to sit and do my work, but was quickly told tablets or phones are not aloud. Cash only payment as well, which I thought was a bit odd.

The guys who work the bar are true professionals. Friendly and kind. . It is an authentic English bar where you can find different brands of beer. There is a large terrace, several rooms and you can also go up to the top floor.

Large Sam smiths pub in central Manchester. What happens when Sam smiths come to the big city? They get ‘roided up and take card payments! (Still no phones, music or swearing though.)They’ve now combined double 4 and the 2% alpine to make a stronger alpine lager. Fitted out as you’d expect to Sam smiths usual spec’. Recommended

15/06/22: Located in Shambles Square. Owned by Samuel Smiths. Dates back to the 16th Century. Survived an IRA bomb 15/06/1996 and was moved brick-by-brick 300 metres to the North, as part of the area’s redevelopment. Takes cash only. The rules include no phones, no juke boxes and absolutely no laptops. If you have to take a call, you should go outside to answer, just like a smoker would to have a cigarette, according to boss Humphrey Smith. The ban also applies to tablets and iPads, which cannot be used inside or outside. Very oldie worldie pub, dated and tired as opposed to traditionally authentic. Very cheap pints of decent easy-drinking ale!

Love this bar as prices OK and always a good place to go, and one of the main reasons it was child free. However it appears that is no longer the case. You can't use your phones, which doesn't bother me, but you can listen to brats screaming. All Pubs should be child free. I go out to relax and enjoy myself. Adults only seems to be a thing of the past and I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks this way.

As usual, excellent value Sam Smiths beers in a convivial environment. Inside is quaint, if weather allows, good to sit outside and people watch. Minor downside nowadays is plastic "glasses", but not the flimsy type. Understandable, but regrettable these days due to the occasional idiots.

Lovely Staff, very friendly people. Nice Bar in Manchester to visit lovely beers, too. Well, it's worth a visit if you're down that end of Manchester. I can't say how the food was as I had already eaten.

Food took forever it was bad. Sunday roast was was so dried out it would have been more properly described as jerky. The meal had sat for so long that the mash was dried out on the surface. What I imagine was supposed to be Au Gratin Cauliflower was cooked beyond any meaningful identification. They also forgot the gravy for the mash. The steak and ale pie was tasty and the chops crisp. The accompanying veg was a few sliced carrots and a couple florets of broccoli and were steamed and flavourless. The atmosphere is nice enough, but the food was pretty dreadful. Definitely not worthy of the 4.3 stars on Google.

I didn't have the chance to try the food at Sinclair's Oyster Bar, but I can say that the staff is friendly and welcoming, and they helped us pick out some great beers. The pub has three seating areas: an outdoor area, a seating area by the main entrance, and an upstairs area. If it's raining, you may need to stand inside, as the seating is a bit tight. I really liked the idea of the pub displaying a sign that says "Digital Devices Banned." This encourages people to be more social and less immersed in their phones. The pub has two bars, and you pay inside and then sit wherever you want. Overall, I had a positive experience at Sinclair's Oyster Bar. It's a great place to go for a drink with friends or family and chat. I would recommend it, especially if you're looking for a pub with a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Here are some specific things I liked about Sinclair's Oyster Bar: * Friendly and welcoming staff * Helpful staff who can help you pick out beers * Three seating areas, including an outdoor area * Digital devices banned, which encourages social interaction * Two bars, so you can pay inside and sit wherever you want Here are some things to keep in mind: * Inside seating is a bit tight, so you may need to stand if it's raining * The food menu is limited, so it's not the best place to go for a full meal Overall, I would recommend Sinclair's Oyster Bar to anyone looking for a friendly and relaxed place to have a drink with friends or family.

It is only recently that I started to come back in here, normally on my way home to catch a train at Victoria. I stopped coming here a few years ago as the Old Brewery Bitter(OB) went over to keg only and beer was served within squeezy plastic pots. Not good. On my last few visits OB is now hand pull and served within real glasses! Not only that they have started taking card payments. I was pleasantly surprised when I was asked: " card or cash"? Prices are still very reasonable as OB is £3 a pint. Well worth a visit.

Considering the location right near the Manchester Arndale Shopping Centre and Selfridges this nice looking establishment which is part of the Samuel Smiths Chain of Pubs I would say is actually fantastic and loved the setting and atmosphere of this place. The Bouncer was very friendly and happy to let me in even though the place was packed. The staff were also very friendly 😊 I decided to have the following which is priced at this time of writing. The Organic Lager at £4.20 for a pint, The Taddy Lager at £3.40 for a pint, to top this off I had some Fish & Chips which was £11.95. They do take Card as of writing despite reviews from a few months ago suggesting it was Cash only. Possibly a recent addition? The Fish And Chips I liked, the Chips were nice and chunky. The Fish was also nicely done, maybe could have been left in for another 5 minutes roughly however really enjoyed it overall and would happily have it again. The Lagers I'd rate as some of the best up here in the North, however I'm sure there's a lot of other places to try! 😂 I would say if you visit during the day you will like this place, if it's during the night however I could imagine it would be a different place and atmosphere entirely! Realistically The Sinclairs Oyster Bar here in Manchester and The Golden Lion in Frodsham are the closest Samuel Smiths pubs to Liverpool and would be nice to see one around Liverpool or Merseyside, they certainly would give Wetherspoons/Spoons a run for their money!!!

The perfect pub: beautiful building with different characterful seating areas, friendly staff, great service, excellent beers (very cheap), delicious and very reasonably priced food. No noisy music or people shouting on mobile 'phones, just the sound of conversation and laughter.

The Oyster House is my favourite pub in Manchester. A true hidden gem. The Sam Smith beers are fantastic and are going down a treat as I type. Interestingly, Sam Smith has a no swearing and no electronic devices policy in their pubs, a policy which I totally agree with: I know what you're thinking! And yes I am. However, when waiting at the bar to be served a customer was using the most foul language? On my second visit to the bar a customer was having a conversation on his mobile phone? The bar staff on both occasions said and did nothing. Come on Mr. Smith, standards! Looking at the menu now and thinking of having a nibble 😄

Beautiful pub inside and outside unfortunately it's a Sam smiths so you just get Sam Smith lager Sam Smith bitter Sam Smith mild Sam Smith stout Sam Smith roller cola etc no phones no laptops no swearing no shouting so great to come and sit in peace and quiet bit like a doctors waiting room. Oh yeah very surprised that the luddites are not cash or magic beans, for a technology phobic place you can actually pay by card. Review done on the pavement outside because no phones blah blah blah nice pub though historic building and Beautiful brown gloss wallpaper reminds me of blackadder and baldrick times sigh photo taken when no one watching

We wanted to have a traditional pub experience and this may be it. They have an official no cell phone policy so I had to sneak these pics. Unlike their name, they don’t server oysters (say What?) They were out of fish, which was also a bummer, but we ordered the Chili Con Carne and Vegan burger instead. Overall the food was ok, but the chips were fantastic—crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. We tried the Alpine lager which was good. The place was packed and it was really hard to find a table. The lady at the bar was super grumpy, but the younger workers seemed happier. Maybe that’s by design??? They have a large beer garden outside which is probably super fun in the spring and summer. It was cool to be in a historic pub.

I don’t normally leave reviews but after all the 5 stars I’ve seen of this placed it seemed necessary. Worst chicken burger I’ve ever had, barely edible priced at £10. Felt robbed and sick. Beer was also poor, save your money

Today was my second time here. Myself and my eldest daughter visited in February already which is why I headed straight here with my husband and 3 daughters this time again today. Gorgeous gem of a pub! Lovely staff and atmosphere. My youngest is obsessed because she said its like the 3 broomsticks pub in Harry potter. Fab little nooks and crannys upstairs! We all love it!! The prices of the pints are unbeatable!! Now for the food...its the only time all 3 of my girls have cleared there plates while here, i got chilli con carne which my daughter actually asked could she finish for me after she ate her spaghetti bologneise, the burger, lasagna and bangers and mash all were devoured and perfect portion sizes! And the prices are really reasonable too! We will definitely be back next time we are over!

Very old pub situated in the Shambles at the back of the cathedral. Small inside but plenty of seating outside. Sells Samuel Smith drinks.

We met here for drinks it was very busy, but no long wait, they didn't have the lager we wanted but recommended a good alternative, and for £3 a pint in Manchester very good, a lovely sunny day with a great atmosphere, and the staff were very efficient and very friendly considering how busy it was.

Very popular place, especially outside. We were lucky enough to get a romm inside, which was nice and quiet, lovely for our little group. Good value pub grub. Definitely be back.

Very busy friendly pub, the staff were great and welcoming and the drinks were affordable Situated in manchester town centre you can sit outside and watch the busy people going by. Or there are seats inside ground level and an upstairs, although it can get quite cramped the atmosphere is good.

Pleasantly surprised to find this was a Samuel Smith's pub, so very cheap. Beer was very well kept. A very interesting building architecturally too - not your average pub. I did like their "Digital Detox" stance, which meant people were having actual conversations and not just sat looking at their phone!!

  • 3/5 Chris B. 1 year ago on Google
The good: Very nice traditional inside, particularly upstairs - with lots of nice places to sit. Beer is very cheap for the city center, beer is 2.50-3.00 a pint. The bad: Dreadful service. Ordered some food, waited 40 minutes, brought the wrong thing. I had to go and asked for a refund which was granted, after one waitress walked off swearing. Strange rules - I had to check my schedule on my phone and got reprimanded for taking my phone out.

My wife and I love coming here for a drink when in Manchester. The rule about phones is ridiculous when the owner has been photographed at one of his bars using his phone. Also the staff were using theirs on Friday night. Even more ridiculous that you can't use your phone but you can pay with your phone.

  • 4/5 Raymond T. 1 year ago on Google
Great old style city pub, lots of atmosphere. Nice to sit outside, enjoy a beer and watch the world go by. And the beer is only £3 a pint!! The only down side it's cash only.

  • 5/5 Bit S. 1 year ago on Google
This has always been one of my favourite pubs over the last decade. They serve a locally sourced drinks at very reasonable prices. It's gotten a bit more expensive over the last couple of years but it's still a favourite. The only downside is that they are a little dogmatic on the dress code so if you're wearing trainers or sweat pants you're likely to get turned away.

  • 4/5 David L. 1 year ago on Google
Always love visiting here, no mobiles. Excellent service, and a very affordable price. I love the fact it's got a varied age group, from students, to senior citizens. All getting on very well.
