The food here is really nice they do a great poached egg but the attitude is horrible. There’s an Australian woman who works there who I swear has never cracked a smile in here life. She is actually the reason I will never come back here because of her attitude to me and my friends.

The most popular of the 3 branches they have around the city. They have one of the best French toast. The cream they use is really good and the toast is soft and everything works well on the plate. The steak & eggs are also something worth trying. Really good steak and the sauces are very flavorful. Would visit again when I’m next in the city.

By far my favourite brunch place in Manchester! Super cosy, lovely staff and absolutely delicious food! It can get quite busy and you might need to queue for a table, but that should only give you an idea how amazing the place is! Definitely go and check it out!

After doing a quick Google search for the best eggs benedict in Manchester, Federal up. After viewing their menu, there is no question why. I have never seen so many choices for one dish. The food was gorgeous, the atmosphere was nice and the prices were good for the quality of the food. Definitely will visit them again next time I'm in Manchester. Since this review was posted, I have returned twice to Manchester purely for Federal. Both times, we needed to queue outside for 20 to 25 minutes, and that just shows how popular their cafe is.

My daughter and I popped in while on vacation and the food here was unexpectedly delicious. Reasonable prices, lovely staff, a tad bit cramped. Would absolutely visit again.

Food was super tasty. Cocktails are well priced for brunch and coffee was great. There's a queue out front pretty much always at weekend because it's walk ins only but it moved pretty quick for us. Had a coffee from a place down the road while we waited and it was lovely. Maybe the federal could consider taking coffee/drinks orders from ppl in the queue. My one criticism is that the banana bread was really dry. Maybe day old or recipe needs updating?

Rainy day thought no crowd will be there but turned up and there’s still a long queue outside, just proves its popularity regardless!! Staff was very kind to hand out umbrellas to us. We both ordered eggs Benedict with salmon and omg, they’re generous with the salmon! Yummy food and we had cappuccino with it too. Love the latte art and coffee. Will definitely come back regularly!

Went here yesterday and I was VERY happy. I was dining alone for breakfast and had been turned away from two other places but federal staff made me feel very welcome. The menu looked very tasty, so I went for 2 toast and some extras, but 1 toast would have been enough. Food was all cooked well, with nice potions and an excellent taste. I will DEFINITELY come back in the future.!!!

Top Manchester establishment, mega menu of delight! Lovely charming staff. Chill, open, classy decor. Stunning food. Often a queue out the door, so if its quiet then get in there and treat yourself!

It was a lovely meal, they gave the fresh toast an unexpected twist which made it very enjoyable and different from the rest. Quick food delivery. Short menu which made picking the food much easier and enjoyable. Would go again.

A great brunch experience. The Eggs Benedict were perfectly cooked with fresh ingredients all around. The flat white was also good, though my only minor comment about it is that it could have done with a slightly longer extraction time, as there was a slight sourness reminiscent of an under-extracted espresso. The staff were all friendly and helpful, and the ambiance is very pleasant. Overall, it is an excellent cafe and I would be very happy to return.

I have been here two times and I choose to write a review on the third time visit because it is worth for the 5 stars review. The coffee is good and all the food cooked well. I strongly recommend ordering the special of today because I ordered two times and it both great. The price is reasonable and give it a try if you want having a lunch in Manchester.

I think it’s best to arrive early here because I don’t think they do reservations and queues build up outside. We went once before and left it because of the queue. The coffee latte was nice, they had lots of flavours to choose from and lots of milk substitutes. The fruit French toast was also good but could have been a little sweeter. The staff were friendly and polite. Overall, a nice place but I don’t think it’s worth queuing up outside in the cold for.

Worth the Sunday morning queue. 5 of us visited and all enjoyed different breakfast dishes. I went for the Turkish Eggs and a Hazelnut Latte, absolutely delicious. We even ordered the special which was french toast for us all to share after. The queue is long but if you have the time, I definitely recommend waiting.

Worth the queue to get in. One of the employees kept us informed about progress as we waited, which was nice. My eggs benedict with smoked salmon were delicious.

Always busy when we have tried to get in today as in no rush we waited. Staff was friendly and good. I saw on the menu a corn fritter which i skimmed over till i asked what someone was eating and it was the fritter. So i had with bacon which was excellent and tasty. My wife had sandwich of hummus sweetcorn and falafel on sourdough which was also very tasty. Coffee was spot on too

It's an alright cafe, nice and chill vibe and botanical earthy decor. Lots of ppl line up to get in at breakfast hours and the place doesn't haven't that many seats. Food is just fine but nothing special. I had their smashed avocado toast with smoked salmon. Portions could be bigger. Also tried their Iced Chai Latte, taste good but again, nothing special.

I've been here a few times now. Easily one of the best breakfasts I've had and consistently good. Everything tastes fresh (they get their produce and goods delivered fresh daily). The French Toast is leagues beyond anything I've ever tried anywhere. Atmosphere is vintage which is quaint but there's limited seating therefore there can often be long queues and wait times. Personally I think it's worth the wait to try it. They've recently increased their prices so they are certainly on the expensive side but you can rest assured you'll be satisfied with the meal.

Industrial chic cosy yet slick cafe. Excellent high quality brunch. The French toast and corn fritters were impeccable. Staff were warm, coffee was great. Great vibes and plenty of trailing pothos plants. Very impressive place for casual dates. I love how they nod to the old shabby chic exchange centres of Manchester in its art on the far wall. Top place.

Just across the road from the Arndale, with superb breakfast options, gluten-free diets catered for, and a moreish beetroot latte. It's deservedly busy though, so you might have a battle to actually find somewhere to sit - it's a good place to make friends with the people you've been crammed-in next to :)

Having lived in Melbourne for a while and seen first hand how much Australians love their brunch, I had to check out Manchester's answer to an "Antipodean brunch spot". Was not disappointed. The coffee is out of this world, the menu has everything from really healthy fruit and cereal dishes to a good bit of eggs and meat. The steak and egg bagel with pickles and slaw was amazing and the bloody Mary to wash it down was delicious too. I had to wait a few minutes to be seated as it was so busy even at 11:30 on a Monday but it was well worth the wait.

  • 5/5 Evgenia D. 4 years ago on Google
Absolutely adorable place in Manchester. It’s very small and cute inside so sometimes you have to wait to get a table, but it’s worth the wait. The service is very fast and staff is super friendly and nice. Food is very delicious and so far I enjoyed everything I had including smashed avocado on sourdough, French toast and chocolate brownie. Been here 3 times already and will come again

Great food and cocktails. Was quite cramped inside though and not sure how they were managing to keep all customers 2ms apart, as there wasn't any room!! We were lucky where we were seated though as had plenty of space... Others weren't.

First off I want to say thanks to the Staff, everyone was great, all friendly upbeat and very welcoming. The Covid-19 measures they have in place are fab, felt safe and secure the whole time. The coffee's were all perfect, delicious and prepared with care. The Milo was just yum. The food.... Well let's just say I have found my new favourite brunch place, the Avocado Sourdough Toast was superb and the French Toast was just sublime. Overall would recommend this place to anyone for brunch or coffee.

Not bad little cafe, food not too bad just portion sizes fit for a toddler not a grown man that trains twice a day... I was sat inside and there was a constant draft of freezing air on a freezing day... Probably wouldn’t go again.

Mediocre place. Don't know what the hype is about. Had the French toast-nothing special. Small, loud and cramped place. Was really annoyed as they let a dog into the cafe and the dog sat next to me with its owner and growled at me for ages. I find it really disgusting that they let a dog into the cafe where people come to enjoy their food. Won't be returning again.

Just popped in for a takeaway mocha and a raspberry and white chocolate brownie. The coffee was great, the roast was not bitter although it did lack a bit of richness and smoothness of the best mochas - I am pretty sure they would make a great latte though. The brownie however was, quite simply, amazing. Without doubt the best brownie I have ever had, and I don't even like brownies! I managed to recruit a second opinion and they agreed. Therefore, the battle is on for the best brownie in Manchester. The other food on the menu looks great but that, is for another day.

If you haven’t been to Manchester this may be one of the reasons to go! BEST BRUNCH! We all know I like a good brunch spot and have been to a fair few and this up there, the food was out of this world, the sauce on the Halloumi & Shrooms was a symphony of sweet and sour which complimented the dish so well. The dish am has a Moroccan vibe to it. The french toast was a very well balanced dish which wasn’t overwhelming sweet. The service was really good, the staff asked on mA y occasions how we found the food and we had nothing but great things to say. I would go back to Manchester just for this place. I will be back guys.

The brunch to have in mcr. Didn't know what to expect but once inside and seen the menu with sourdough bread with everything you can imagine - i knew ill like it. Topped up with dirt chai latte which is amazing. Nice little gem, there seems to be one popping up everyday now.

Ambience, staff, food, everything was grand. The food is delicious, good quality, and clearly the chefs care about what they produce, as it is plated up and served beautifully. The place is small so get a seat quick. Although it was busy, we were never made to feel rushed. Despite it being full, it was still very chilled and reasonably quiet, which was a pleasant surprise for being a small place. The menu also has some very interesting choices. I will definitely be back.

Great place to eat. The restaurant is a bit small, but in terms of the food and service it's all great... Plus, you probably won't notice the size of the joint when you're stuffing your face! lol I 100% recommend going here.

Went there with a friend who had come to visit in Manchester. Got the French toast and safe to say it was amazing! The sweetness level was perfect and wasn’t too sickly which is what I was afraid of. The fruit balanced out the caramel sauce and added an additional freshness. You HAVE TO come and try this if you’re in Manchester

  • 5/5 Touty P. 1 year ago on Google
If you have time for one cafe in Manchester, make it Federal. The coffee is on point. The French toast is divine! The bread is cotton soft, but not soggy, the berries are not soaked in sugar, you can still taste the natural sweet and tangy flavours. The crunch of the (I think it’s granola?) tops it off and adds an interesting texture. The best French toast I had in all my worldwide quest for the prefect French toast. Give it a try. You’re welcome.

Wow. What I can say about the amazing Federal cafe. The food was lovely and freshly cooked. The coffee was amazing. One the best flat whites out there! 👏. The wait for the food wasn’t long considering they were busy. Can’t fault them at all and will be coming back again. Thank you!

  • 5/5 Ra F. 1 year ago on Google
Great and tasty breakfast. The star dish was the french toast. The combination of the strawberry sauce, the berries, the nuts, the mascarpone and french toast is delicious and make sense. They used single origin for the milk based coffee drinks. The taste was similar to grape fruit and lime with milk which I didn’t enjoyed much as I prefer the sweet taste over the fruity taste when it comes to milk based coffee. I do recommend though the black coffee to be a fruity taste. The cafe’s quality standards are inspired by Australian and New Zealand cafe’s culture. Overall, I enjoyed the experience and I recommended the place if you are visiting Manchester.

A real institution for Manchester, certainly the best place for breakfast or brunch. The place is very crowded, with some queue to get It, but it worth the wait. Inside the restaurant is well decorated with plants and vintage stuff, very nice. The food is great, but the sweeties but also the mai courses. I suggest the Egg Benedict with smoked salmon or avocado. Our best sunday breakfast in England so far

We ordered the steak sandwich and the avocado eggs benedict on sourdough toast with smoked salmon - both were really delicious and fresh! Drinks were just average (we ordered a batch brew and a cold Milo milk drink); although, my husband tried the flat white at the Oxford Road branch the day before and said it was one of the best flat whites he has had. Knocked off one star as was difficult to access with a pram up the two steps and there was no baby changing facilities. Staff were really lovely and efficient!

Ideal upmarket breakfast/brunch treat. We were lucky and didn't have to queue, but I would expect a queue from 10am on a weekend. We had the French toast and egg benedict with bacon. Both gorgeous, and the breakfast tea was delicious too. We also bought some Tim Tams.

Had this incredible açaí bowl at federal cafe bar but I called it “A work of art”, to be honest this is the best açaí bowl I’ve ever had in my life, the texture and the taste of the açaí was perfect!!! the peanut butter & the granola on top were divine; and I also had a hot latte with oat milk and it was perfect. Lovely staff and amazing place to have brunch or breakfast at, I highly recommend it!!!! 🤍

The food was delicious, stunning to look at as the presentation was curated. The staff really looked after us, was extremely friendly and attentive. My friends all enjoyed the food as well, overall a wonderful experience I recommend as a cute place to have brunch at. We ordered French toasts, Turkish eggs, the special and the salmon eggs. The Turkish eggs were exactly what you’d expect, the sauce was tangy not too spicy and went well with the poached eggs. Overall a wonderful experience

100/10 service level! Don’t usually post review, but service level is on another level. Gave us hot chocolate while we were queuing outside and gave cookie on the house when I’m done with my meal. Great food too, but service is truly excellent.
