Great, authentic Ethiopian restaurant within easy walking distance of town and Piccadilly and Oxford Rd stations. The restaurant is up the spiral staircase which appears you enter Istanbul Kebab shop! Several Ethiopian couples were eating when we entered - which was encouraging. We ordered lamb tibs, and misir what with injera. Food was good portion size - we couldn't finish it - and tasted great. The waiter and staff were smiling and super friendly and helpful. The bill was very reasonable - recommended - will return.

Popped by for a quick dinner and was not disappointed. The staff were very friendly and I had the spicy lamb stew with traditional Ethiopian bread which was lovely. Also tried the Ethiopian beer which was nice light lager. Very much recommend if you’re looking for a different choice!

An amazing find. Truly authentic with a lot of attention paid to the the quality, taste and presentation of food. We shared 3 dishes between us and were unable to finish despite wanting to eat more since the flavours are so amazing. There are 2 amazing vegetarian options, we had one and it really was great! Great service, comfortable environment and service was first class. Will definitely be back!

Amazing food. Really good prices and very flavourful. Recommend the vegetable platter and a chicken and lamb dish for 2 people. Lots of food but lots of variety.

This was our first time eating Ethiopian food and I have to say that it wasn’t quite for us. We are novices so maybe we didn’t quite order the right mix of food. The traditional bread comes rolled up like little carpets and does taste quite odd. More like a sour pancake. Great to try something new but I think it may be my last foray into Ethiopian cuisine! However, the man who served us was lovely and polite and couldn’t do enough for us.

The first challenge is to find the restaurant!!!, it's quite unique entering a take- away & then going straight up a spiral staircase to locate the restaurant on a 1st floor. The owner could not be more friendly, helpful and clearly unable to trade without the very capable hands of his wife chef! Just go and experience! Choose a few different items off the menu to share & enjoy a local beer of the region. Just Brilliant!!

We were looking to try a different cuisine in Manchester and this restaurant popped up in google due to its highly rated reviews. An authentic Ethiopian restaurant. The place is simple and run by a brother and his sister (chef) serving authentic Ethiopian food. Limited menu yet so diverse with veg, chicken, beef and lamb. They have the local Ethiopian beer too. The best part is the hospitality by the owner himself coupled with delicious food which is truly reasonable. Do visit and try the food, sure to love it!

Amazing service + delicious food. Had the slow cooked lamb and it was fantastic. Proves that a simple menu goes a long way! Cheap prices for the amount as well - it might not look huge but it is a filling portion for sure. Felt cared for by staff.

First time trying Ethiopian food and I enjoyed the flavourful chicken! Friendly staff, quick service and delicious food. Note that the restaurant is upstairs (see the last photo), in case you cannot find it.

We decided to book Habesha after reading Giles Coren’s rave review of the restaurant in The Times. It is a very small restaurant up a spiral staircase, accessed through a disused kebab shop. We were looked after by one person who was incredibly polite and helpful. There are not many meal options, which helped us pick 4 dishes to share comfortable amongst 6 of us, plus several plates and baskets of injera, the Ethiopian fermented pancake. It was a novel experience scooping up the food with torn pieces of pancake (spoons are provided) and the beef, lamb, chicken and lentil dishes we ordered were excellent. The chicken in the thick, rich gravy I think was the group’s favourite, but I also really loved the lentil curry which came with pickles and a salad, as well as the cubed lamb. Very delicious, and ridiculously good value - £65 for 6 of us.

Very tasty and reasonable price, we paid about £68 for 5 people, which was 5 main dishes, 3 Ethiopian beers, 2 soft drinks. It’s essentially a bowl of stew, with some soft bread (like a sour savoury pancake)that you dip in and eat it with…we had lamb, chicken & mixed vegetarian option. We went in the evening- the restaurant area is upstairs via a spiral staircase and from the outside it’s not immediately apparent that anyone is in..but they are! Service was very friendly and all the meals explained, as we were Ethiopian food novices.

The service was very nice and friendly, we arrived when the restaurant was half empty, we waited half an hour for food. We had beef and chicken with their traditional pancake. I have to praise the chicken which was made tasty and interestingly seasoned. On the other hand, I did not like the beef at all, the meat itself was of poorer quality and it was seasoned with very different spices for my taste.

Absolutely amazing food!! I couldn't have asked for better. I think I will be dreaming about what I just ate for the rest of my life. And the staff was super friendly. I would give them 6 stars if I could

Yesterday we had dinner there and it was fantastic!!! The place is a little bit difficult to find as it's above a Kebab place (so you have to go up the stairs) but the place is cute, the staff is super friendly and the food is awesome!!!! We had the 2 vegetarian/vegan dishes they have and we loved them so much. Definitely a must!

It was our first time in ethiopian restaurant, waiter was very welcoming and kind, always smiling. He showed us how to eat in traditional way, but we didnt find the taste to our liking. The bread was sour and food quite spicy for us.

I went to this place with a friend. The food was very nice but the menu is very limited. We got 2 meat dishes and a veggie dish. Staff were helpful in explaining the menu. The only issue was it was a lot of bread (I don't eat much bread in general). In addition due to limited menu it's not somewhere you could keep going to. This is real value for money. The entrance was difficult to find also.

Visited lastnight, chuffed to eat cheap yet great food. Shame the portions were small but the traditional sour flatbread filled me up enough at the time. Each meal was about £11 minimum and cheap bottled beer at around £3.25. Lovely atmosphere seems very authentic and the staff were super friendly and polite, a tip well deserved. Only thing is finding the place was confusing but it’s on the corner and you’ve to go into the fast food place below then follow the spiral stairs up and you’ll have landed yourself in the habesha restaurant :) the lamb was lovely and tender. Open late as well (11pm)!

Very interesting concept of Ethiopian cuisine. Food very very spicey, so be ready for that. Veggie supplements amazing. Staff very friendly. Space could be better designed. 15 punds per person with drinks so very good value. No desserts sadly.

Amazing authentic food. Small choice on menu but it is all about the quality. Restaurant owner very friendly and helpful. Watch through hard to find. Shop almost looks closed! So check door and go up the spiral stairs. Didn't see a lift so if you can't do stairs this will be a problem. Still very good. Reasonable pricing. Definitely recommended.

Friendly service. The entrance is upstairs and it is easy to miss. A fast food place downstairs was shut but a separate entrance with stairs goes up. It was not very busy on a Monday night. I am am not familiar with Ethiopian restaurants in Manchester. London has good options. This was reasonable priced but less options than other Ethiopian restaurants I have visited. Awake tibs was a lot of sauce less meat than some places I have been to.I would go back if the area still.

I found this place via Time Out website..I wanted to try something new and affordable..and yes I walked passed it even though I was following good maps haha. Coming up thr Spiral stairs i was greeted with a smile from Nebu ( I hope I spelt his name right.) Service was friendly gracious and efficient. Food was amazing..the taste of the Doro Wot was what was I was looking for walking round Manchester trying to figure out what I wanted to eat. Menu is simple but plentiful..atmosphere is calming and the music makes the vibe. Thank you for great tasting food and service. I love a place that doesn't make you feel rushed to finish. And this place is it. 😀😀😀

👍👍 I was craving curry during my stay in Manchester. And Google suggested this place to me. It's in the centre, almost 6 minutes away from my hotel. The interior design is very hip and it has a great vibe. The music that is being played is modern. The curry was amazing. And the prices were perfect for...
