Lovely, old, proper pub, good choice of ales, friendly, helpful staff. The atmosphere here is always friendly and fun. Great place to sink a few.

If you want a pub where you can have an intellectual and informed conversation with friends, this is not the place for you. It's a shame really because the venue itself was ok and the beer is decent enough. The problem with the place is the staff, or at least the ones we encountered during our visit, namely the young barmaid (14/4/22)- a very unprofessional, juvenile, and sloppy approach to customer service with a total lack of respect for patrons. How such conduct by staff is tolerated by the owners is mindblowing. Considering there is an array of great pubs and bars nearby, it's not worth visiting this place.

Went to celebrate Brendan Loughnane's championship win here along with Darren Till and a few other notable athletes. Very courteous staff. Hope to visit again soon.

Me and my partner always visit this place when we go to the northern quarter. Proper old pub, great vibe, great drinks choices. Someone asked for a non alcoholic beer and there seemed to be a decent choice on offer.

I've been in the Castle many times and it's an interesting pub. I have to say that when I was there on Friday, the staff were super helpful in recommending a good IPA and remembering it when I went to the bar later. Thanks very much 😀

Thank you to be here. I heard about the Plumporter and it was sold out. So, got an draft Pale Ale, or two. Next day returned an the Plumporter was on tab again. Tell You, good to come back! Great taste, love it. By the way, the bar is nice, as a neighborhood bar has to be. Bad if you don't live in Manchester.

Went to see Personal Trainer play here, great little room in a great old pub.

Nice old bar, but dirty, glasses are smeared and tables need a really good deep clean. One bar tender was great the other ignored us to serve a young girl then carried on flirting while people were still waiting to be served. Like that it's dog friendly, so I made a fluffy buddy.

It's always good to get to live music but omg, the room they cram you into is tiny!!!! The room was dripping with condensation and sweat, as were the masses of bodies. The ceiling was also dripping! The poor bands had to squeeze there way thru a packed room carrying all their equipment. The music was great but couldn't stand the heat for more than an hour!

Neighbouring bars adopted a very unreasonable entry policy and after being defied entry to a couple of nearby bars, the Castle Hotel welcomed US with zero resistance. In particular Duncan even gave us free credits on the jukes box. Friendly staff and the draught is on point. Highly recommend

Attended a concert by Emily Scott Robinson last night, which was great, but spoiled somewhat by very loud music from the bar, which interrupted the live performance. If you're going to sell tickets to gigs in the back room, please could you turn the main bar music down? Otherwise a great atmosphere and beers and a lovely old pub.

Great atmospheric old style pub, with excellent little music venue at the back. Expect no frills though.

Love this place. I really enjoy a small gig. So if you do too this is your place. Small traditional pub. Great atmosphere. Small intimate gig space. Really friendly, welcoming staff. Went to see Ed Cosens supported by Tom Bright, Rohan Young and Testcard Girl. Brilliant night. Have seen Ed solo half a dozen times and Tom twice. The others were new to me but all great 👍 recommended if you get the chance

Amazing historical pub at the heart of Manchester. Great selection of cask and friendly staff. Athmosphere is outstanding and their selection of music is pure joy. A must go for sure.

Great beers on tap, friendly bar staff and a perfectly formed small music venue. What's not to love?

Well, they hosted John R Miller, JP Harris and Chloe Edmonstone which was one of my all time favourite gigs. Small venue for some phenomenal artists - if you get the chance, go. Great selection of beers. Only one downside for me is the toilet trough - it's 2023.

There's something about this place. You can't put your finger on it. It's what a pub should be. The bar staff look after you. There's a reasonable selection of beer. It's light at the front (with a nice room upstairs which is open in the evenings) and a great room at the back which is dark so nothing detracts from the conversation. You can bring your own lunch. On the evenings it has a back room which showcases smaller bands. There's a small yard at the back where you can drink outside, but not much sun.

Such a warm pub, city centre bars can be pretentious sometimes. Not this place, it's cool great staff not expensive only downside is that you lose track of time ahah woukd recommend to anyone who's looking for a "proper PUB pub"

This is the 'beer pub' for me when in this neighbourhood. I like Robinsons bitter. Great atmosphere in the back room on a weekend.

First visited this Robinsons pub in the 1970's. It has always served excellent real ale. The interior is little changed and of historic value. The front bar area can get very busy. I watched Scotland v Peru here in 1978. There are two more rooms down the corridor with live music often in the back room. Visited many times over the years when on City centre pub crawls.

Do not visit this pub. First, the good stuff. We visited on 13th April. A good selection of beers. Warm decor. Cosy. We sat at the bar, discussing a range of subjects: music, identity politics, culture, etc. No vulgarities. All above board. All very civilised. Now the bad stuff. Unfortunately, the bar staff listened in on parts of our conversation and instructed the doorman to eject us. It played out like this. The doorman, out of the blue, approaches us and asks us to finish up and leave. Confused, we asked why. He replied that we had to leave the premises first before he could give us an answer. Yep, really confusing. As we were about to leave, my chair was kicked and one of the bar staff (a female wearing a Slipknot t-shirt) began hectoring us from the other side of the bar, although I couldn’t hear her due to the general background noise. We were told by the doorman outside that staff disliked our conversation (or those fragments of it that they monitored). The Castle Hotel. A place where your speech is monitored by a coterie of miserable-looking bar staff. If you value your privacy rights, then do not visit this place!!!

Definite vibe of homophobia from the security guard. Been refused multiple times since they put a new guy on the door. Strongly recommend avoiding. Refused to provide details of his license and refused to allow us to complain to management on this occasion as well.

First time in Manchester for a while. A bit of shopping then drinks. The castle has always been good for us. Plum porter. Need I say more 👍beer good but the staff no need to say any more. And the place stank of urine. Probably the toilets but not nice last time for us. Stick to Cheshire cheese pub in buxton.

Proper old school looking boozer. Is small and cramped but has a good atmosphere. There's a gig room out the back and more seating upstairs. Always worth a visit if you can fit in.

👍👍 I was craving curry during my stay in Manchester. And Google suggested this place to me. It's in the centre, almost 6 minutes away from my hotel. The interior design is very hip and it has a great vibe. The music that is being played is modern. The curry was amazing. And the prices were perfect for...
