The manager watched intently as I took a comfort break… after reporting back to the party of 6 we decided to leave. We were looking forwards to several rounds in temple bar (being frequent visitors) but he proceeded to abuse me post comfort break. I am not sure he was actually the manager.. surely he cannot be

Visited Manchester with my oldest daughter and figured we should get a pint while we're there. Decided on The Temple due to its unique ...history. It's a tiny little hole in the ground. I kind of loved it. Bathroom was pretty awful, but it was worth a visit.

This place is a real $#%t hole, barely enough room to swing a badger. A former public convenience, it even smells of urine. I sort of like it. It's a bit affected. The word "Hipster " is as much a perjorative these days as "Chav" used to be, but those formica tables are definitely H💉👎🪱🌱🍤r. Bar tender was a grumpy little sod. Asking for Jamesons and ice seemed to anoy him. Possibly an act he puts on for people from out of town. So they can get that authentic Manky toilet vibe. Good music on Jukebox. Funny graffiti on the walls.

Been here many times and its been great. Treated abysmally by the bouncer on Friday though. Asked to check my friends ID, which he did, then asked to see my friends again claiming to have not looked at it. When my friend politely pointed out that he had already seen it (having watched him put it back into his wallet and into his pocket), he asked us to leave. Just weird, weird behaviour. This was all in view of the bar staff. Embarrassing power trip. Space better served as a public bog.

A great little bar with lovely staff. The owner is a notorious drunk and violent guy, however, who, when he's in, ruins the atmosphere and spoils his own bar. He once threw a glass at a group of people because he didn't like their jukebox choice.

Very cozy pub with limited space, but the alcohol is priced well for the area. The underground entrance is basically the staple of the pub.

great little place, unpretentious and full of character. the staff are so friendly and really helpful. reasonable drink prices considering the central area. perfect for a couple or a group of three, four at most. always a really friendly and diverse variety of punters too! lovely atmosphere despite its previous life as a victorian public toilet. the jukebox is also a fun asset! truly a hidden gem.

This is one of my favourite bars. Every time we are in Manchester we have to visit. Great beers at excellent prices and a top juke box. The staff are great, too.

Ok, what can I say to stop folks thinking I'm smoking something. This is an oddity that all and sundry should visit not just because it has a great selection of drinks, not because the barman is a borderline comic that makes ya all feel welcome but the atmosphere of the place itself is to be experienced. From the artwork on the wall to the stories about ' Phil '. I have stumbled across many a gem but this little place will burst the smiles out anytime you visit. You have 1 task though, ask about Phil. Oh and you have to experience the toilet graffiti

A great little bar you have to find but it's worth it. Always a good pint on draught and a great jukebox. It's tiny and underground and a bit shabby but that just adds to its charm, there is nowhere else like it in Manchester, go and check it out.

The drinks were good. The atmosphere with rock music was better. The fact the whole bar used to be a public toilet and it still retains some of that mystique, puts this one over the moon. A must-see bar, from a tourist perspective.

We went just as it opened for the day so it was obviously empty, but it has a lot of history and a good selection of drinks for such a small place. You can also sit outside too if you don't want to stay underground.

Temple bar in manchester Formerly known as the Temple of Convenience, it has a claim to 'fame' if you want to call it that, by the fact of when it was a loo this was the one that Alan Turning was arrested at for cottaging. This is was also the reason my mate wanted to visit it. It is also one of Elbow lead singer Guy Garvey's favourites when he lived in manchester, with Temple even inspiring some of the lyrics for his band’s song “Grounds for Divorce”. "There’s a hole in my neighbourhood, down of which I cannot help but fall." Small venue but one of those places you should visit.

I remember visiting the Temple when still a teenager, maybe slightly older and it hasn't changed. One of those strangely peculiar bars once seen, never forgotten. A little dark which possibly helps the atmosphere and the fact it needs an upgrade soon.

Literally just walked up after researching the place all week - told two of us on the door - we are wobbling???? Not sure how after being sat on the M6 for 2 hours - terrible door service - sticks with a lot of reviews about poor service! What a shame as looked forward to it all week!

Used to be so much better. Jukebox broken (used to be a fantastic jukebox), music in the bar was akin to a wedding do, no snakebites, doors wide open on coldest day of the year. It was warmer outside as the wine just seems to whip through. Pity as it used to be our meeting place in Manc

Probably the finest bar in manchester. Excellent beer and staff, nice cosy vibe. The place is well worth stopping at for relaxed drinks with friends

It’s was known as a Victorian public toilet refurbished into a bar sounded interesting to visit and it was a decent small setting under ground with a nice music and different spirits and beers to have.

Quirky venue close to the centre of Manchester. You might struggle to find a table, but that's part of its charm! Oh, and it has an actual separate toilet, even if it is itself a bathroom.

This place is just awesome, hasn't changed much in 20 years but that is definitely not a bad thing, just got such a cool vibe and feels like you're in on a secret that not many people know about when you're in, great atmosphere and lovely beers, don't ever change!

👍👍 I was craving curry during my stay in Manchester. And Google suggested this place to me. It's in the centre, almost 6 minutes away from my hotel. The interior design is very hip and it has a great vibe. The music that is being played is modern. The curry was amazing. And the prices were perfect for...
