One of the best pubs in Manchester, really lovely interior. Great feel to it, staff are always amazing and the beer on offer is great. Nice place to catch up with friends and watch some football.

29/10/22: back again. Sat upstairs. Photo update! Haven't been in the Lower Turks Head for quite some time, but was pleasantly refreshed and found good service and it's usual fantastic choice of Joseph Holts beers/ales. Probably quite overlooked and definitely understated. Well worth a visit!

Excellent pub, serves Holt's dark mild and it's gorgeous. We will be back.

A traditional old pub done up sympathetically in keeping with it's style and age. Much nicer inside that it looks from the outside. Larger than you initially think as they've knocked through to next door. I particularly like the pew seating opposite the bar and the story in the ladies loo telling you that it once was a barbers and that you're stood on the original floor. Excellent friendly service but it was quiet.

A great place to sit down and have a drink, staff are very friendly and the bar has a good atmosphere. Additionally since the pub is located close to the bus station, this is a nice place to wait for your bus to arrive.

Stopped here for 1 night very welcoming staff a young lad showed us to our room we paid a little extra for a room with a balcony the veiw isnt the best but ideal if your a smoker there is some extraction units which can be noisey but slept all the way through so if you dont like noise i wouldnt recommend Overall the bed was very comfy the room smelt clean and was clean will stay again 👍🏻

I love these old Manchester pubs with the tiles on the outer walls, Don't be fooled by the outside, it only looks a small pub but there's plenty of space inside over 2 floors AND THERES A BEER GARDEN UPSTAIRS. A good Holts' pub surving the regular beers Crystal, Diamind and also Bootleg IPA, Trailblaser Stout and a Citrus Holts lagar as well. The staff were happy for me to try them and let me have a look around this great pub. Also it's just opposite the Hanging Ditch Metro stop so not far to walk.

Absolutely disgrace, I'm a disabled person who was refused a pint because the person in charge decided I had to much to drink. I told her I had 4 pints all day but was refused being served a pint of bitter. I was told that I stumbled into the pub, this being the reason for not being served by. I then pointed out to the lady in charge of the bar that my right leg was 2" sorter than my left leg and that I had a problem walking. I was told because I was disabled that if iwas served with an pint and fell the pub would be responsible. So it seems to me that if you are disabled you are still being victimised. After leaving the Turks had I had 3 pints of Blonde bitter. When ordering the 3rd pint I asked the gent serving me if I was drunk. He told me that he knew that I had a few pints but no were near drunk.

Lovely pub to visit and have a pint or any beer that you're searching for. As a B&B, it was a fantastic experience to live the genuine Manchester. Enjoyed so much the atmosphere once Man United played Champions League, unforgettable.

A relaxing pub with a good atmosphere and nice staff. Enjoyed a few pints of pale ale. They have a television showing live sports. A good place to call in for a few drinks if passing.

Plenty of TV screens for sport.. Staff friendly a couple of them are not the sharpest tool in the shed so you might have to make sure theyve got your order right.. A lovely old fashioned boozer with good priced rooms

Good couple of drinks at a quiet time. Staff were friendly and helpful, and I can imagine the atmosphere is great when it gets busy.

Looked dubious from outside but really old and quirky inside. Very friendly & helpful staff. We asked about food & they said we could get a takeaway & eat it in the pub - 9 of us got a kebab from the Turkish takeaway 2 doors down & ate it in the pub. Reasonably priced drinks. £15 for a bottle of decent house white - so would go back x

Was introduced by a friend, good atmosphere and friendly staff. Went back with my husband for one of the Northern Soul Wednesday's. Took another friend on a Saturday afternoon, she loved it too. Hoping to go to one of the Northern Soul Sundays.

I didn't eat here but otherwise this is one of the best pubs in Manchester City Centre. Amongst all the grey misery outside and run down businesses and store fronts and litter, this is a gem and when you step indoors it's like a whole other world. Great beers and ales, cool seating and plenty of it and everyone is friendly, even the patrons.

I'd imagine the old cook Geordie might be gone but he treated the Illinois high school Select side to wonderful roast dinners upstairs the couple of times we booked. Excellent location and near youth hostels.

The place was very well located. We had a great time over there. We missed our bus initially & bit tensed. But the host who were 2 girls were good and made us feel eased out by their short talk. When we visit Manchester again then definitely we will pop at this place again

Cosy historical pub serving superbly kept Joseph Holt beers. Fascinating multi roomed interior including a roof terrace. Warm and friendly staff. Highly recommended.

Lovely place to have a pint or few. Minus they do not serve food, but are OK if you bring your own takeaway from place around. Their own brewery beers were delicious.. definitely will visit if need wait for bus again next time

There used to be two pubs on Shudehill called The Turks Head so one was called the Lower and the other the Higher. The later was long since demolished. The Lower Turks Head was closed for a good while but reopened a few years back after a good refurb. Martin Meerkat's first visit but I have visited many times for a delicious pint of Joe Holt's. They also served Chorlton's Bootleg on this visit. Two good sized rooms downstairs with another room upstairs. Great location opposite Shudehill transport interchange and three minutes walk from Victoria. Have eaten here in the past. Good pub.

Class pub grateful mix of young and old with respect to match, open mike night last night show casing young Manc talent well worth a visit, outstanding staff and owners who are there to meet, great and socialise with could not recommend more highly. A fantastic peice of Manchester not to be passed up on, the hotel rooms are second to none also, give it go what's not to like.

Stopped in here for a quick drink, as our son drinks here and works in another Holt pub. It was busy and friendly and great layout for watching sport. Good pub.

I must add that I went on a weekday late afternoon drink. A proper pub. Decent beer, no juke box blaring out, and the TV with no volume on. I believe this isn't a place where you're likely to find a load of young lads/girls downing shots, that's a plus in my world!

It felt weird when we enter because the hotel is located in the upper floor of a pub. Reception is in the pub. We could pay by cash. Really nice and clean room, spacious enough and very nice bathroom with a bathtub. Kettle, instant coffee, tea bag. No fridge. Stove was not powerful enough for me. In the city center, close by the arena and the tram. Supermarkets close by. Little expensive and WiFi is unstable.

First time been in, loved it. Need more pubs like this in time. Proper mellow and chilled place, has tvs as well for news and sports. J holts beer on tap which is always a solid beer, they had others on too. Cheap enough as well. Nicely decorated and good seats for long stays. Went on a Friday afternoon so can't comment on peak hours but could of spent more hours in there for sure on that visit alone.

I stayed here overnight and was pleasantly surprised with the room. It was very suitable for an overnight stay when out during the day. I can't fault it and would stay again. Friendly service, clean room, quiet (even though above a pub), comfortable mattress. I had the best night's sleep I had in weeks!!

We stayed here as we was seeing Robbie Williams at the AO arena. Lovely cozy pub and our room was clean and comfortable. Shout out to Joe and Kyle they were brilliant and very friendly nothing was too much trouble for them. Would highly recommend this place and if we visit Manchester again we will return here!

One of my favourite pubs in the City Centre of Manchester with more character than Coronation Street. Now a Holts pub since the last time I was in but who doesn't love a pint of Diamond? A must for any visit to Manchester whether shopping or just having a drink.

Not from the area, first time visitor. Staff & locals really friendly, nice environment, decent music and drinks very reasonably priced compared to other places in this area. Asked if they sold cigarette papers (I ran out), they did not but the excellent bartender offered to give me some from her own supply. Small acts like this make me feel welcomed, valued and want to return. Thank you.

👍👍 I was craving curry during my stay in Manchester. And Google suggested this place to me. It's in the centre, almost 6 minutes away from my hotel. The interior design is very hip and it has a great vibe. The music that is being played is modern. The curry was amazing. And the prices were perfect for...
