We stayed in the hotel at the Boat & Horses on a Thursday night and had a number of drinks in the pub in the evening. The hotel room was lovely, clean, and great value for money. I would say it's similar (probably better to be honest) than a Premier Inn. We had drinks in the bar whilst listening to the quiz going on in the background. I'm sure we sampled most of the locally brewed J.W.Lees beers, and all were lush and great value for money. Breakfast was included with our stay which was an all you can eat buffet. I don't think there was anything that wasn't inedible. I definitely had a soft spot for the black pudding and hash browns. The food menu looked delicious as well, however; we had already eaten so didn't sample it (the on show carvery looked pukka). The staff were friendly and the service was excellent on the evening and also at breakfast. On check-in, we were greeted by a lovely woman called Nikki who made us feel welcome. Would we stay there again .... It's a massive YES! 5* Pub & Hotel

We stayed for 2 nights here to visit relatives in the area. The check-in process was easy and mostly completed online ahead of time. The rooms were very clean and more spacious than I expected with a sofa and a work desk. The bed was perfect. The location is perfect for car travel in the area being close to the motorway (not too close) and the hotel is right next to the canal for walking or running. The breakfast was perfect with plently of choice. Would recommend to anyone.

Yeah room was adequate for its purpose, wanted to order food downstairs but were too late. Kitchen closed at 8pm. Ordered takeaway. While waiting for our takeaway I did notice that the hotel was letting sex workers use its facilities. Breakfast was decent, basically all you can eat buffet style. Wont be returning again.

Can't rate the rooms here as I did not stay in one, so have no experience of them. The carvery I had was tasty with an average amount of meat, plenty of veg available to go with it. Only disappointment was the lack of sauces (mint, horse radish etc) although the gravy was nice. The service was good

A new favorite. The location is good and the food is delicious. As it is new, the interior is clean and you can have a good impression. The pub and restaurant next door is very lively. I was surprised to find Costco right in front of me.

So i would have given a 5 star review except for the young bar man with the beard, he was coughing and sneezing and wiping his mouth and nose with his hand, when i asked for a pint I asked very quietly and politely asked if he could wash his hands, he then said its hey fever, and wiped his nose and mouth with his hand, I said you just done it again he then said do you want me to get someone else to serve you, i said ok, another young man then served me and the bar man continued to server other customers without washing his hands. Such a shame as i would have given 5 stars as we had a good evening, other staff were nice and polite maybe a bit of training required.

Despite it being our local pub we have only ever visited sparingly over the years because we have always felt disappointed, and this despite several landlords/landlady's along the way. Very often we have felt ignored whilst waiting at the bar but most significantly the food is invariably a let down and this is why our visits are so sporadic. It's such a shame as it's a lovely building in a great location which serves a wide community that it really should offer better than what it does.

We had a great time on Monday afternoon. The carvery was amazing and great value for money. Once of the chef's Gavin Thomas was very helpful and polite when serving us. I would definitely recommend this establishment for anyone looking to have a great meal.

Lovely pub, great atmosphere, staff friendly and prices very reasonable. The pub has a lovely outside area next to the canal, so you can have a beer and watch the world go by. I will be back.😊

Worst experience of my life. No social distances tables less than 1 meter apart. Lots of spare tables but yet they place people next to each other if you want to enjoy a meal out in covid protect yourself and go elsewhere. We will never return so you all stay safe and if I was you I would do the same. Stay away.

We were regulars at the boat and horses in fact we went in when it was the original boat and horses!! Booked a table for 5 people last night, we got sat down eventually were given menus, ordered food after about 15 minutes, 25 minutes later we were asking if our food was ready. It came and we then had to ask for more cutlery as there wasn't enough. Finished food and we wanted to order sweets, the wait was that long we gave up asked for the bill and another 15 minute wait. No they weren't overly busy, husband spoke to staff and the manager came over and at that point told us it's wasn't table service. NO ONE had told us that all.night, the order was taken at the table by a waitress the service was dreadful one of the staff was pleasant the rest I would say need lessons in customer service, I have worked in hospitality and would have been sacked if I had displayed that attitude. I do have a positive because of the complaint the manager paid our bill. Sadly it will be a long time before we go back in the boat and horses!!!! EDIT please read it says I have worked in hospitality I no longer do so by choice. As for being rude to staff?? I didn't actually speak to you or your staff as I was in the toilet when my husband spoke to you And no I don't work for your competitor down the road. As for staff some of them have an attitude that needs addressing!! Sadly I don't know the name of the staff who were nice and polite but again we was never told it wasn't table service I did say the positive was you paid for our meal and that was appreciated

Ate here as a family of six. Perfect food and perfect service. Can not fault one single thing. Extremely clean, clear social distancing measures, staff and customers following all the guid lines. Felt very safe and comfortable. Would highly recommend this place to anyone.

The covid social distancing rules are very clear and comprehensive. The staff are incredibly thorough and explain everything. Nothing is too much trouble for them. Friendly and helpful. The carvery was really tasty too. Very impressed and will be back again. Thank you!

Lovely lunch menu. Not the cheapest, but nicely cooked, hot, delicious food. Good service. Location is on a very busy junction of M60 which is great for access from said motorway. Costco at same junction with only one way in and out so, at busy times it can be manic. Didn't stay overnight. Worthy of revisit to sample the carvery which, I've heard, is excellent.

As bad as everything went for me in Manchester, this hotel was amazing! Clean, cozy rooms...oh,did I mention clean?! And the staff was wonderful. The owner extremely helpful and the young lady in the pub on the day I arrived, she was fantastic too. Everything actually was spot on! The owner did let me use a shelter with a gate so my motorbike was safe over night. All just perfect. Thank-you all, it was a pleasure 😊

Came here for a carvery and some drinks, service was warm and friendly. Carvery was great but the cheese and onion pie meal was sad and a bit underwhelming. The brownie desert was really nice though! It took a bit longer than we would have anticipated for the food to come out but sometimes this can’t be helped if it’s busy. Would happily come again.

Rooms are big and extremely clean with an amazing shower. Food in the pub is outstanding we both had the cheese & onion pie god it was so good. Breakfast is self service with such a wide choice very relaxed breakfast.

Just got back from a one night stay and it was excellent. The room was spotlessly clean, the staff were extremely helpful. After a long drive up from Bristol it was perfect to pop next door and have a couple of beers. The breakfast was great, they catered for the vegetarians amongst us with no problems. We will definitely be staying here again Thank you

Excellent Pub, with a nice beer garden looking out. The staff are nice and friendly. The food menu isnt to big, but you still have a good array of options to pick from. The starters are a good size and you can easily share one. Good prices and a nice clean environment.

Only went in for breakfast, so can't comment on the rooms. Breakfast is buffet style, lots of choice available. 1 of the coffee machines wasn't working. Food was OK. Lady who served us was pleasant and polite. Table was dirty. Lots of indoor and outdoor seating. Outdoors you can sit by the canal. Toilets could have been cleaner. Toilet roll is cheap and nasty, liquid soap was watered down. Large free car park with disabled spaces and entrance is pram and wheelchair friendly. A wheelchair user would need assistance to serve their breakfast as most of it is quite high up.

  • 4/5 Fiona W. 5 months ago on Google
The room was spacious and clean. The majority of staff were great and friendly (including hotel reception and waiting staff, especially the blonde lady serving breakfast. She was singing whilst she worked and made us feel so welcome). The only negative was one of the bar staff on Friday evening 27.10.23 (a woman) who was blunt, rude, clearly didn't want to be there and made us feel like an inconvenience for ordering food/drink to the point we would not go back/stay here again for that reason. Still leaving 4 star review as the rest of our stay was great.

Stopped by to have a coffee before going off to fish the canal. Breakfast looked very tempting and definitely we will partake next time. Surrounding and decor very good, staff attentive and pleasant. A good venue I think.

Everything was fabulous. The room was large, clean and had all the amenities including an iron. The breakfast was also excellent with everything you could want. The staff are all so friendly and helpful. I would recommend this hotel and found it superior to the other similarly priced options.

Location perfect for gatherings & business trips just of the motorway absolutely perfect! Tops score for buffet food absolutely delicious. Rooms clean best sleep I have had recently. Cooked Breakfast & continental breakfast loads of variety to choose from accommodating every taste bud. Receptionist was very helpful overall a highly recommended stay.

Comfy rooms, only minor complaint would be that the pull out sofa-bed isn't the most comfortable. Otherwise, everything else is excellent. Hotel staff were lovely and so accommodating. Pub food was delicious, and for an excellent price. Couldn't ask for a better place to stay after a very long trip from N. America

Fantastic room, fantastic service, comfortable bed and super clean - this place is great! Breakfast was 👍 x too. Very convenient location for the area. This place is also a great value. Would definitely stay here again.

The staff were helpful and friendly when I approached them with my dietary requirements. I'm vegetarian and they had vegetarian options for the carvery. I chose the cheese pie but I believe there was a nut roast option too (I think that's what it was, don't quote me on that) Anyway, the cheese pie was delicious! They also have vegetarian friendly gravy if you ask for it. The vegetables were cooked to my standard of perfection. The Yorkshire puddings were phenomenal and the roast potatoes and parsnips were beautifully soft on the inside and crispy in the outside. I will definitely go there for a carvery again.

Walked in on a Sunday and was lucky enough to get the last table for food. The staff were lovely - especially the host who sorted us out a table. Food was great (carvery). I'd go again.

The rooms are clean but plain. Service is good in the pub and so is the food. The location is good with regard to access from the motorway....but there didn't appear to be anything nearby within walking distance. The photos make it look quite rural, quiet and inviting......it's far from it...right on the main roads, very busy pub for families and children.

Nice hotel. Great location right next door to the Rochdale canal where you can have a lovely walk. Good food in the pub; there is a Subway just across the road.

Fantastic location next to the canal and straight off the motorway, , although I'm over looking the car park😞. Beautiful clean room and the bathroom is spotless. I would definitely recommend this hotel. I will be trying the food later 👍 I had the carvery whilst stopping at the hotel, in the pub there was plenty of choice and it was gorgeous. The breakfast that was included in the morning had plenty of choice from the continental and the cooked breakfast, thoroughly enjoyed it and set me up for the day.

Went in for a wedding day carvery with my wife and mum. Gotta say it's the best carvery around. Fresh tasty and good amount of meat from the chef, (some places ya think they sliced it with a razor) 😂. Really good experience, definitely be going again. £9.95 each Monday to Friday then a little more at the weekend. Definitely worth it and well worth a visit 😋👍

Great breakfast a good choice of hot and cold, would like granola on the cereal choice. Accommodation was really comfy very clean and a good hot shower. Nice tea tray in the room but I prefer Yorkshire tea so I will bring my own tea bags next time but then I am fussy about tea 😋

Came as Family party. (I was the karaoke host) staff polite and all smart in appearance. Food (buffet) great. Generally clean and tidy with a good clean lager. Well done. Will definitely visit again when we return to oldham

Room was very spacious and quiet. The staff was very kind to accommodate my request. Inside the room it's pretty clean and no weird smell, so i had a very good sleep. Just one thing, the toilet seat didn't seem properly cleaned, as i still saw some dust/ hair on the seat, so i had to clean by myself. Location-wise, it's close to the main road so can get to Manchester pretty easily. Will come again next time i pass by here.

  • 3/5 Suzanne B. 11 months ago on Google
Although the food was good the bar service and clearance of tables ready for other courses was verging on diabolical, not a way to make the customer feel comfortable. Also when ordering drinks at the bar receipts weren’t given out when asked for and my husband had to ask for the last two receipts as he felt he’d been charged twice at which stage the member of staff was picking up receipts off the floor hoping she’d got the right ones.

This was a busy place when we visited as a walk-in there was only a couple of spare tables as most were reserved, the carvery was lovely and hit the spot. Staff were busy but attended to us quickly, bear cold, price's fair. Hard getting out carpark because of Costco traffic next door. Worth a visit, with outside seating with sunny spot overlooking canal if you don't want to sit inside.

  • 5/5 John G. 1 year ago on Google
Meet up for 10 golfers looking for breakfast before setting off. Wasn't disappointed all you can eat at reasonable price. Everything that you would look for was available , if it wasn't the staff were more than willing to get it for you. Would definitely recommend this to anyone .

We wanted 1hr 20 min and no one come to us in that time to say "sorry" it's going to be longer the stake was chewy and the chees pie was over cooked when they did come and talk to us they messed us about a l we even ask for the manger to say something about this the service manager was good he offered us money back on one meal and free desert over all a good place and nice looking but communication would help big time

Went for annual family meal on Saturday as we do every year. Would have given 5* rating but we had a meal and my 15yr old son ordered carvery. We paid for it and he was given a ticket so I went with him to sort it and there was nothing there. I asked one of the staff and was told the carvery shut at 8.30pm. I said why was he allowed to order it? Why didn’t the staff come and tell us? I then asked to speak to a manager. A guy came from the bar and asked what was up? I told him and he said yeah it shut at 8.30pm. I said I wasn’t happy as we should have been told upon ordering the carvery and now my son was only one with no meal! He ended up with a lasagne. I was told later that the chef was hot and overworked and that he shut kitchen early. I completely understand as it was a very very hot day Saturday. The staff need to communicate more. I wouldn’t have complained if they had told me the carvery was closed.

We stayed here recently for work, the hotel was lovely. Really clean rooms and good amenities, easy check in and ample parking. We had a carvery for dinner and it was lovely, big portions too. Staff were all friendly, a little slow on serving our drinks but football was on so it was busy in the bar. Would recommend this establishment to others.

For the first time since lockdown, yesterday I was able to take my 85 year old uncle out to lunch. I let him choose the venue and he decided on the Boat & Horses, Chadderton I think that mainly it was because he used to go in for "a pint" at lunchtime when he worked at the Stationary Office next door and he wanted to reminisce. On arrival there were only two members of staff, one on the carvery, one behind the bar. After selecting a quiet table I had to find my own menu and cutlery. The lunch menu @ £9.95 consisted of a very limited choice of sandwich with skinny fries and a choice of tea, coffee or a draught soda. The only sausages were vegan which a member of staff said taste differently and are not of the same consistency. He therefore decided to have the hot beef, I chose the same. A small tasteless bap with the worse tasting spread ever ( it even overpowered the taste of the beef) gravy, and a small tub of fries arrived. As I had chosen to buy drinks with the meal we asked for the coffees when we had eaten. They were brought to the table by a very nice member of staff who had to apologise as the coffee was spilled into the saucers. I had to soak it up myself with serviettes. Luckily neither of us take sugar as they too were wet through. Not a good experience and needless to say, I will not be returning or recommending the Boat & Horses to friends and family

I visited the boat and horses 21/08/20 I was completely stunned at the lack of covid awareness as we were herded into the small bar area, there were no spaces between tables no tables marked to be left unused for social distancing measures and as the bar area filled up it became apparent there was no chance of 1mtr plus distancing. I left after 1 drink as I was appalled at the scant regard for customer wellbeing. The door marked exit only was totally ignored as smokers would go in and out whenever they liked with staff not enforcing the faux pass. Although there were signs to say keep your distance this was not possible as someone sat on a table directly behind me / we were literally back to back, definitely no where near the regulatory meter plus! When this person started coughing that was it for me I had to leave as it made me uncomfortable. Whilst this was the case in the bar area the much larger area was reserved for dining customers only which is a very large area and was about 10% capacity so made no sense at all. Dining customers allowed to distance, non dining customers not it seems. Will not be visiting this place again. Truly awful disregard of customers wellbeing. Update. Rob gm your response is untrue when you say all your tables are set for social distancing. The booth type tables in particular are right next to each other none are marked to be left unused. If i had lent my head backwards it would have touched the head of the chap sat in the booth type table behind me. There wasn't any space at all. I see you didn't even try explaining why a door marked exit only was being used for entrance and exit and why non eating customers were packed into the small vault area when the much larger area was almost empty. Distancing measures and entrance only / exit only measures are put in place for a reason the boat and horses disregard for them and it's customers and staff who work there is shocking to say the least.

Very fast and efficient check in. Very helpful at check in desk when I enquired about local shops. Room clean and welcoming with a comfy bed. Hair dryer and iron/board provided. Tea and coffee provided in the room. I had a bathroom with bath and shower, again both very clean and good pressure in the shower. My room was at the back looking into the canal. Very quiet and had a good sleep for both nights. I travelled for business and wouldn't hesitate to book again. Overall a pleasant stay

Everything was fantastic. The rooms were lovely, the pub was great with lots of choice of food and all staff were very helpful at the pub and hotel. Really enjoyed our stay, well done x
