Not many places like this left in Manchester and it's such shame. It's a bit like going back in time. Not a huge selection of drinks and the toilets are like something your grannies would have had in their back yard. The place looks like it needs some work, but for me that would ruin it. It's somewhere to go if you want a quiet pint, or a conversation with a stranger, or listen to the musicians who wander in, sit down with a drink and start playing their instrument. Amongst all the chain pubs and theme bars this place is a breath of fresh air.

I've been coming here for 30 years for some of the best traditional Irish music in Manchester. Sheila and Ray are very friendly and always welcoming. The best pint of Guinness in Manchester!

Great place, good beer and friendly people. My girlfriend and I went on a Tuesday night, and liked it straight away. On our second visit Ray (barman) got my pint ready before I asked, which is the sign of a great place in my book. We will be going back when we're next in the area.

Old fashioned Manchester pub. Would have been part of the community until all the modern apartments have been built. The old properties have been demolished, houses and factories. Still worth a visit. Cash Only.

This is now my favourite pub. It's very quiet and the people there are sound. You can actually talk to people here. Best pint of Guinness you'll have outside of Ireland.

Goo local traditional pub, friendly atmosphere and great beer. Pity it's difficult to find out when it is open. Tried to visit twice recently and closed both times, latest this Saturday afternoon. We always have a tour and this was No.2 heading into Manchester centre. Phoned, no answer and no way to leave a message. Pity.

A true survivor. Small two-roomed, back street boozer set in a former light industrial part of the city, yet close enough to Piccadilly BR to be very handy. Run by the same family for the best part of the last 30 years, this is an institution that is not to be missed. One cask ale - Hydes Original bitter, plus Guinness, and spirits. Live Irish-cum-folk music sessions most Tuesdays. Recommended.

Great couple of pints here. We went to a pretentious bar in the northern quarter earlier where the beers were £5.50 a pint. Here £3.00. Much better atmosphere and very friendly. Recommended. Nice to find a proper old style pub.

Family run pub with Man U memorabilia on the walls and the oldest bar maid I've ever been served by. In some ways it feels like being in somebody's home, very nice. Some nights a folk group meet there to play together - made for a good atmosphere though the folk group weren't too pleased that our large group were loudly enjoying their music.

Great little pub, Ray is a brilliant landlord always made to feel welcome. Great pint of Hydes and when the fire is roaring feels like your living room - can't beat the Jolly

First visit in almost 40 years and it has not changed. No money spent on anything as far as I can see. This is a museum piece for people who want to see what a Manchester back street boozer looked like when Coronation St still had Ena Sharples. The Hydes and Kansas St (Hydes) beers were good. The lone bar man friendly. Too much black mould in the toilets though for a better rating but worth a visit never-the-less.

Great place. Quiet in the afternoon, with friendly batman and locals. Loved the Hydes Original!

👍👍 I was craving curry during my stay in Manchester. And Google suggested this place to me. It's in the centre, almost 6 minutes away from my hotel. The interior design is very hip and it has a great vibe. The music that is being played is modern. The curry was amazing. And the prices were perfect for...
