I've not been to the Yang Sing for about 10 years. My family and I used to go very regularly but then it went downhill and we started frequenting a different restaurant in Manchester Chinatown. Anyway, we thought, we would give it another try (just for old times' sake). The service was very pleasant and the starters were nice as well, good so far. However the main was just average (about 5/10) The crispy chili beef was too "crispy" to be edible and the sweet and sour was reminiscent of a cheap takeaway. At the end of the meal, we were going to leave a tip. However, when we were presented with the bill, there was a "service charge" of nearly £10!! so we just left it at that. In summary, it has a long way to go to reach its former glory.

When I was a kid, 80s to 90s we always go to Yang Sing once a week, sometimes twice a week. It was the best. However, as I have been last month it has changed to much. The decoration is lovely but it was too dark inside the underground level. There were 3 of us. A pot of Chinese tea was £3.50 and that's without service charge on top of it yet. The food, I've had better elsewhere and doesn't cost an arm and a leg. The special chow mein we ordered was very small and the three slices char siu (roast pork) were just fatty, no meat on it. We actually left two slices of fat behind. The green dumplings were the only dim sum I liked

Last came here in 1998, it was amazing, opulent, proper night out. Today I realise they’ve been trading on their reputation and not focusing on the food and experience. Decor in need of massive updating, felt like a canteen. Food, had to wait, when it came it was warm, not hot, warm food drives me mad. Quality of food was average at best. Staff was nice. The same for the Little Yang Sing which I went to 2 months ago, both restaurants with the original owner created great restaurants, but two decades later that vision and passion for food and experience wasn’t passed for the next generation. Why did I leave it 20years? Because I moved out of Manchester and have the Choy Hing Village on my doorstep which is still fab. I had four courses banquet for £30 pp. they added 10% service. Would never recommend it.

Finely prepared and tasty dishes, some with updated touches. Never had a dish with a cream sauce in Toronto or Guangzhou, but if I looked for it then I am sure I could find something similar. If it was all the same everywhere then what would be the point? Liked the decor and comfortable seating. Very helpful and pleasant staff. I would happily dine here again.

It's not the problem with their food. I just don't understand why their waitresses are rude and impatient to me. There were smiles on their faces when they talked with the young lady next to me. Their behaviors were so snobbish and made me uncomfortable. Won't go there anymore.

Love this place. Ordered Congee and variety of dim sum, really fresh! Staff were really attentive and helpful too. Will be returning next time I’m in Manchester!

Not just great food, but fantastic service as well. We ordered for takeaway and they couldn't have been more accommodating. Sat and had a pint while we waited. They also helped us navigate the menu and answered all questions. The chicken with cashews was excellent as was the egg fried rice. Also got adventurous and went for the ostrich rump. It was more rump tender than ostrich gamey and the satay sauce on the side made the whole dish.

I'm sorry but this is awful. From the food to the staff to the decor to the price, this is exactly kind of place that should be closed down. Plain and simple. Good restaurants, sod that, average restaurants are losing business as long as this place stays open. We arrived, shown the table in a near empty sad vault of a room that resembled a 70s function hall. We asked the waiter what he would recommend from a vast menu (surprisingly lacking in many vegetable options, despite it's size). His reply, I've only been here 3 months, I've never tried the food. But I do like Sushi (sic). Another waiter appeared, we gave her our order, she said, I won't have that it's too Chinese, or if you like tofu, I would have the prawns and saffron (I kid you not.) In fact twice she would point out a completely different meat dish when we ordered a fish dish. Naturally, the vegetarian Ma Po came with pork, less expected was the argument with manager over whether it was pork or not. Leaving a restaurant had never been so sweet

Very good indeed. The interior decoration is relatively old, the taste of the dishes is not so heavy, but the taste is very good. The price is not high, but acceptable and the service is great. Will come again.

Overall, the food is good but overpriced for the quality offered. Poor variety of drinks, no draft beer for example (maybe because of COVID?). The place needs an update in terms of decor (looks a bit decayed for my taste) but it's not that urgent. The atmosphere is chill and the staff was nice.

Beautiful dining experience! Prompt service, friendly staff and delicious food! 💯 I ordered the beef dumplings with spring onions as a starter and the jellyfish with dried shrimp and vegetables as a main. They didn't have dried shrimp so they very graciously surprised me with fresh fried shrimp. The ambience is so perfect with the signature red decor and Chinese lanterns.

Ordered a takeaway, salt and chilli chicken, noodles, chicken curry and salt and chilli chips. Absolutely incredible. One of the best takeaways I've had. Would definitely order again
