Lovely independent restaurant run by very friendly and helpful staff. The food was very tasty and portions very generous. The experience was made even more enjoyable by the staff who were happy to provide details on what everything was and lots of cultural background info. We were given small shots of delicious honey wine and we finished the meal with Ethiopian/Erritrean coffee which was truly fantastic. Congratulations to the restaurant for providing such a unique and friendly experience. Highly recommended!

We were wandering the streets of the Manchester Northern Quarter and wanted something to eat but not usual burger, chips and pizza that seems to be standard fayre, in many of the bars. We stumbled on Asmara's completely by accident, looked through the window, checked the on-line menu, worried a little that it might be too exotic, and went in. Had no idea what to order and asked for ideas, the Mosob 2 person platter was suggested so we went with that. The presentation was lovely, a huge plate of assorted veggie and meat dishes served with and on, a sort of flatbread called Injera. The flatbread was a cross between crumpets and large pitta bread. You tear it apart with your fingers and dig in, very messy, very enjoyable. Forks are available on request....Good for when you are breaded out but can't resist the treats. The food was super tasty and palatable with a nice amount of heat, every flavour was different. The closest cuisine I can liken it to is Indian, but it's definitely not ...it's Eritrean/Ethiopian. We need to go back and try more dishes now 😀 Parking is awful... normal North Manchester. The restaurant is on 2 floors and downstairs is only about 14 covers but if it looks full, go in anyway as upstairs is bigger. Nicely decorated and clean. You can go in just for drinks if you wish, there is a bar and a coffee machine. Toilets were clean and functional but warning, they are upstairs. Service was good. Visit was Saturday mid afternoon and it was quiet. Piped music is ethnic, presumably from the region of the food. Family friendly.

Cute little restaurant with a lovely, friendly man serving. I chose the mini mosob for 1 where you get 9 different 'tasters' on this thick pancake type batter, and they were all delicious! So refreshing to have something different and great to support an independent restaurant.

Great food, great experience with lots of ex pats and a charming host. We ordered the meat and vegan platters. Came on a giant fermented bread. Absolutely delicious and the owner recommended the best way to eat it, and then gave us some Eritrean honey wine. Coffee ceremony to finish really added to the theatre. 2 giant varied platters, 2 glasses of honey wine, coffee and popcorn for 2. £50. Bargain.

Beautiful food and such a friendly service. We are very sad we don't have this cuisine near us. We would be back over and over again. The homemade honey wine is fantastic and really nice to feel they truly want to share a little insight into the food and culture. Extremely genuine and yummy place eat!

Decided to try this place out for my short stay in Manchester due to the excellent reviews on Google. After my experience I completely understand why they are so good. I ordered the vegan platter Bebeaynetu special. It was so delicious and filling too !! Highly recommend the place for a cultural food experience but also for the excellent service as the food were very welcoming and attentive .

Our first time in an Ethiopian restaurant and we were very glad we went to Asmara Bella. The food is fresh, tasteful and good. The owner is nice and hospitable. Try the shared platter, that way you will get a good impression of the Ethiopian dishes

Very sweet cultured service, staff are extremely warm welcoming, themed very well with good atmosphere, nice smell when walking in. Very fast service, reasonable prices great drinks selection. We had been recommended the Bebeaynetu meat platter for 3 with Injera rolls, Injera may be a little too spur for some, alternative options would be nice but meat itself and food was very well cooked and seasoned thoroughly.

Our favourite Habesha restaurant in Manchester, the hospitality is warm and welcoming, great service and the food is amazing, order the Ethiopian beer and share a platter, you won’t regret it… oh and don’t forget to try the honey wine.

Curiosity and former reviews lead us to eat at Asmara Bella. Great location in NQ -and nice staff and the waiting time for the food was reasonable. Whilst the starters were good, the main was not to my liking - I ordered the Kitfo (beef) which came in a bowl and Injera. I can only advise this is an acquired taste. Maybe I should of did a bit more research before hand, but its left what was enjoyable evening with my partner into having a disappointing meal. The staff could have explained the dishes a little better during ordering and they did not take much care why I hadn't eaten much or offered alternatives. The price vs quality of food was not reflected. A better menu description, presentation and more attentive staff would have improved the experience.

Coming from North London we assumed it would be hard to compete in manchester, but this place competes with londons best. Cannot recommend enough. Even gave us extra in a takeaway box.

This place is obviously authentic and hugely popular with the Ethiopian/eritraen populace, which is a great sign. We were very excited to try this new cuisine. Unfortunately it wasn’t for us, I’m really sorry to say. Firstly there was only one option for red wine and one for white, I think if you are only offering one choice it should be better selected and not £26. The food was tasty but the lamb special we chose was a tiny portion and chewy, not tender. The spinach was OK and the beef stew the best of the bunch, but the traditional bread Injera, which made up the bulk of the meal, is not your typical flatbread, it was a bit of a culture shock to us, icy cold spongy vinegar tasting pancake- like substance with rubbery texture like thin sponge upholstery or android skin, and actually very unpleasant in temperature and texture. Never had anything like it before, and as open to new foods, cultures and experiences as we are, I never want to have it again. This is just our personal response to that food, should not put you off trying it but atleast you are aware that it is not your typical flatbread at all.

Absolutely wonderful evening here for my birthday with 40 friends. The food was unbelievably tasty and had compliments from everyone. The team created a buffet for 40 people and we had a private room, which worked perfectly. The service was just 10/10, they looked after us so well. I can't recommend it highly enough! I will be returning for many more meals in the future. Thank you so much for the best evening! x

First time I've had Eritrean food. I had the mixed platter with a bit of everything. (You rip up the bread/pancake thing and use it to eat the rest). It was really good and quite different from anything I'd had before. Nice atmosphere too and pretty reasonable price!

Extremely friendly and helpful service. Our waitress, Samrawit helped us understand the menu and any food we weren't familiar with, have us excellent recommendations. Food and drinks all came quickly. We had the mosob sharing platter with the Ethiopian coffee as well as some cold drinks. All beyond delicious. Especially liked the presentation of the coffee which came in a real clay pot with a small incense burner which really made the atmosphere after a delicious meal. Will definitely be coming back.

After a day shopping in Manchester we decided to stay for dinner. A quick google search found the Asmara Bella close by. Neither of us had ever eaten Eritrean or Ethiopian food so we thought we should give it a try. When you access the Asmara Bella website there is a facility to make a reservation, as we had never been before and it was a Saturday we thought it would be prudent to book a table online for 6.30pm. We received an email confirmation of our booking almost immediately. We arrived at the restaurant at 6pm and were met be friendly staff. I explained that we had a reservation that I had just booked online. It was obvious that although I received a confirmation email of our reservation the restaurant was not aware of it. The staff said it was not a problem and found us a table. My tip would be to phone for a last minute reservation rather than use the online booking. We opted for the ‘Mosob’ which is a 2 person platter of meat dishes and vegan dishes that come with handmade Injera. Injera is described as a thick, chewy bread made from teff or other grains. I would describe it as more like a pancake. It was absolutely delicious. No cutlery comes with the meal as you use the Injera as the utensil. With our meal we ordered two Asmara beers. Neither of us are big beer drinkers, however it is always good to try something different. The beer was Ok, to me is tasted slightly malty. I would not buy it again I would opt for a wine instead. After the meal we tried the traditional Eritrean & Ethiopian Coffee for 2 people. It took a while for it to arrive as the Chef actually roasted the beans to order. When it did arrive it came with a popcorn snack and an aromatic frankincense. After a while the frankincense started to smoke the place out so we asked the staff to take it away. It was good to experience traditional coffee once, we would give it a miss when we visit again. The restaurant has good decor and a nice atmosphere. The bathroom is on the first floor and accessed only via some steep stairs. This restaurant does not have a lift. The Asmara Bella is well worth a visit.

This place has been on my to-go list for a while and yesterday we finally made it and it was impressive. The décor, the food and drinks, the service and the atmosphere were all top-notch. We ordered a Bebeaynetu Meat Platter for one (£16) and Shekla Tibsi Special - Clay Pan (£11), Eritrean & Ethiopian Beer (£3.50) and Cinnamon Tea (£2). Generous portion, flavoursome food, filling and it was very 'homely' for us as we do have something quite similar in Malaysia and we enjoyed eating it without cutlery too. The staff / manager was attentive and he also described what's the best way of eating it. The atmosphere was great, a lot of regulars and many of them had platters. Would definitely recommend this place and we'll come back very soon too. Probably to try the Mosob Platter for 2 which my OH was eyeing on after we left. Thank you!

Amazing restaurant! Very friendly staff, delicious food, welcoming atmosphere and decorations. Try the platter with the okra/meat, the honey wine and Eritrean beer! This restaurant made me see Eritrean/Ethiopian food in a completely new light!

Asmara Belle is a unique introduction into East African food where you get the opportunity of experiencing multiple flavours in a single dish. Most of the meals are based on injera (traditional flat bread), and the eating journey involves eating everything with hands, which - once discomfort is overcome for some people- is a special and rewarding traditional experience. Do remember to wash your hands and eat with your right hand if you can ( i did the research for you). The food involves multiple flavours from spicy lamb style stew to lighter vegetable based dishes. This is something I haven’t tasted before and highly recommend trying it as its different and unique in its own style. The menu is well curated to fit all dietary requirements with full section for vegan options. The gentleman who served us was attentive and didn’t question a mix up in our order, we even had a second person appear to apologise for the additional wait due to the mix up. As for pricing, it is really difficult to compare it to anything else in the northern quarter since it is its own cuisine, but for an average of £20 each (including a 10% tip) and a drink, this fits really well with other places nearby. Finally, the decor upstairs is really well done and adds a touch to the experience. I do recommend trying this place if you are looking to try a unique tasty cuisine, or simply if you already know what to expect and looking for a bite. Asmara belle is rated 4/5 in the UK food hygiene standards and because I already know I will be visiting again, I hope this is 5/5 for my next visit.
