I mean whats not to like about a zoo right?!?!? kids loved it, I loved it, was a real fun day. Saw plenty of animals, the best ones for me always has to be the elephants and giraffes. such majestic animals. Was lovely and clean and kept tidy. My only complaint with zoos is the amount of walking you have to do, but again its all part of the experience!!

One of the best zoos I have been to. There is a LOT of walking and it will take all day to get round. The animals look very well cared for. Their enclosures seem spacious and there are plenty of places for the animals to find shelter, if us visitors annoy them too much. Most of the animals were easy to spot, I think the tiger was the only one we didn't manage to see. Definitely worth the visit. Baby orangutans are adorable to watch.

Just been to the festive lights at the zoo. Had a brilliant time. Well organised plenty of parking and staff. Lights are great for all ages. Even have interactive characters. Food available (not cheap). Highly recommend

Fantastic day out. The zoo is set out over a large area so be prepared to walk, however there are lots of benches along the paths so you can sit down. I use a mobility walker and access was superb in all areas of the zoo. The Butterfly House was a highlight! We ate in the "June's Kitchen" food court. We chose burgers and was impressed at the quality and quantity of the food. Definitely a good day out for all the family.

Wow, an amazing zoo! It has been on my bucket list for a few years now, but I live 4 1/2 hours away. Weekend in Chester to accommodate. Fantastic enclosures. Amazing displays and so much to see and do. Just about got round once in 7.5 hours.

First visit as an adult, but had the eyes of a child, was amazed by all in particular the free flying butterflies in the butterfly house and walking around the lemurs and interacting with them at a safe distance. There is plenty of animals to see, but not enough time to get around but you can spend all day and still not take in all. Its a must see and will be visiting again to soak in the rest of the zoo, as well get better camera shots. There were plenty of snack outlets as well as food outlets, now it was a busy day but still managed to get a sit down meal. The staff made sure tables were cleaned and left items put away for cleaning. Plenty of choice to eat from your pizza to fish n chips and there is dessert too if you fancy a spot of ice cream. Staff were very polite, courteous and very informative if required more information and made sure guests were ok.

Our second visit here we came from Suffolk to visit and it was well worth the 5 hour drive !! It is a incredible zoo ! Easy to get lost in also but I'd recommend buying a map!! The bat cave is probably the most incredible experience out of the whole day for us it was amazing ! We all had such a incredible day !

Review not only on the zoo, but the annual membership: We’ve had our annual membership 10 months now so thought it is worth giving our opinion. We are a family of 2 adults and 3 kids (9,5,2). I think we’ve been 6 times so based on the cost of the membership we’ve definitely got our moneys worth. One thing to note straight anyway is like many people, we got the membership as a Christmas present. So we went for the first time during the Christmas holidays and there was a long wait to get our membership cards printed (around 1 hour). Once you have the cards then entry into the park is quick and easy but the first time was painful. The zoo is always immaculately presented and we are still finding new things each time we visit. Our favourites areas are the butterfly house, tropical realm and today we visited the new large enclosure called Monsoon forest which was great! We always take a picnic with us as the food is pricey 👎 but we still end up buying coffee and ice creams. Members get 10% discount on any food and drinks (to be honest I’d like to see this increased to 20% though). We’ve never had difficulty finding a nice picnic bench and there are a few indoor places you can have a picnic too if the weather is bad. One thing which I think is missing from the zoo is that there is none (or very little) staff interaction / shows telling the kids about the animals.

Fantastic day out! We arrived when the zoo opened and were one of the last cars to leave after it closed. The keepers and staff are all extremely friendly and look after the animals incredibly well. The zoo is absolutely massive so be prepared for a day of walking. There are however multiple food and drink outlets located across the zoo to give you that energy boost. The best zoo experience we have ever had, will certainly be returning.

Lantern and lights - Amazing! Highly recommend. The lights were spectacular and there were light 'animals' that greeted the children. Did was lovely! We'll be going again next year

A great zoo, much larger than we expected, with some stunning animals - you'll want a full day here. They also have 26 EV charge points available for guests, which is great! They're at a reasonable cost (40p/kWh at the time of posting), although are rather slow at about 3.7kW unfortunately, even when not shared. Great to see tourist places starting to add chargers though!

Amazing for the people and the animals! Such a great day out! So many animals there and you can tell what great lives they have. Such an amazing conservation zoo - some of the purchases can be pricey but the proceeds go towards the conversation and the animals. Always developing the area to change it and make it new. The volunteers are super helpful and knowledgeable. Pretty accessible for wheelchairs and mobility scooters. If you go regularly I would 100% recommend getting a membership - it makes it such better value. If you can I would also recommend getting there earlier as it is quieter and also bringing your own lunch - takes a big expense out of your day. But make sure to get an ice cream from Junes Pavilion!

One of my favourite places to visit. The animals all look really well cared for. Chester zoo do an amazing job of educating people and conservation of animals. The animals all have plenty of enrichment and loads of room. Got to see pretty much everything while we were there. The staff and volunteers were all brilliant too. Can't wait to come back again in the future!

This is our second visit in 5 years and there were lots of great changes for the kids. We came today as a family; even though we couldn't find the adoption ticket we purchased a year ago, we were found on the system and given entry. Not fussed paying the extra adult if it was a problem but after a 99 mile drive I sure was relieved! 😁 A few animals weren't out like the elephants & tigers but it didn't dampen our spirits. Food from the "Island" food hall was good. Prices reasonable. Spotted one of the staff from "Secret life of the Zoo" (avid fans btw)! So glad we managed to see my husbands name on the wall after we sponsored the chimps last year! 🥳 Feels so good to help. Loved seeing the new giraffe & chimpanzee arrivals. Fantastic conservation work guys & gals. Keep up the great work! ❤️

Love Chester Zoo. Its an absolutely fabulous day out. The cost to visit is very reasonable. I paid just over £25 for 5 adults and that was including a donation as well. The food and drink around the park is about as you would expect for a large venue. A bit pricey for what it is, but there is nothing taking your own picnics with you. We went on quite a hot day as we had already pre booked a while ago. We took water and you can get refills but only in the restaurant places, not the smaller snack bars dotted about. I would say they need to look at getting some self refill water stations about for people to use, to avoid big queues at the food courts and extra pressure on staff. The animals seem very happy and well looked after in their spacious enclosures. You can see how much the staff care for their animals and how much the zoo does for wildlife conservation around the world.

We visited today due to the teachers strike and bats off to Chester Zoo for allowing kids to go free, it was a big saving and allowed us to do something exciting. We booked in advance so gaining entry was very straight forward, parking was also plenty and well organised. To start with the place is massive, so please plan to be doing a lot of walking. This said it's all super accessible, a few small inclines but nothing too bad, we managed with a pushchair and five year old. There is some construction going on for new areas but it certainly didn't detract from the visit. The whole place was really clean and tidy, each exhibit looked fresh and not tired. There are so many animals to say and you can easily spend a full day here, I would certainly download the app and plan the visit. One area that pleasantly surprised me was the range of eating establishments. From quick tuck shops to a couple of really nice coffee houses. We are in the food hall, which wasn't too busy when we dined but I imagine it could be really busy during peak times. There were three food vendors, fresh pizza, fish and chips and burgers. The quality was really good, gone are the days of cheap fast food, this was fresh and good quality. We finished off with an ice cream Cheshire Farms. In conclusion I would recommend a visit, the whole place has grown and evolved so much over the years, so if you have never been or haven't been in a few years it is worth a day out!

The best Zoo in the UK! Visited with my family. Tickets are bought in advance. Parking is free. Well-organized and friendly staff members! If you want to book a buggy, there are single and double buggy available. Only, there is an age and weight limit. 45kg and up to 7 years old. Book VR for kids. Face paint is available all around the zoo, 10-15£. They will love it! Moreover, you can book a family photo option which is an amazing experience. On your way back home you can get them printed. Decent price to be honest. Rhino is outside of the Zoo territory even before you enter so don't forget to see Rhinos! African Quarter is underway and expected to open Summer of 2025. Waiting!

We come to see the Lanterns every year! This year seemed more organised not so many queues. We Love Matilda the Mammoth. Sadly no little lanterns were given out, we had collected all of them from the beginning. The fairground was a nice addition but not really needed. Rides are £3 luckily we only have one grandchild. £20 for the bubble wands being sold was extremely expensive. We did not purchase. Food and drink was what you normally pay at these type of events. I really feel for families on a budget. We travel 2 hours each way to visit and look forward to it. We were not disappointed. Staff were super friendly and helpful.

We attended the Chester Zoo Lanterns and Lights event and it was absolutely amazing. We've attended a few light shows before but this was by the far the best one we have attended due to how interactive it was. Our kids aged 7 & 4 absolutely loved it!

I've been to Chester Zoo many times, but our recent visit made me truly appreciate the place. I've been to other zoos globally and this one will always stand out by a mile. The lengths that the organisation as a hole have gone through to make every creature great and small have an above and beyond enclosure is just incredible. We saw many of the animals playing amongst themselves during our visit, which just shows how happy and cared for they are. We went to the islands and on the boats for the first time this year and was blown away. What a beautiful addition!!! The whole grounds was kept clean throughout, and there was many workers around that was always happy to help with any question or request. There were so many volunteers around each of the animals helping us and the kids get the best views, teaching us about their characters and lots of information! It truly made our day. There's so much to do, so many places to grab food and drinks. There is not one fault.

Absolutely wonderful day out and a pleasure to visit. I'm a wheelchair user so take my advice and avoid the wooden bridges and ramps if you use a wheelchair, very very bumpy. Accessible toilets need to be changed to radar key entry as they are used by anyone and everyone that wants a larger private cubicle :(

A great place ideal for all the family. The animal enclosures are of a good size and well spaced apart. This may mean that as each enclosure is set up for the animals in them, but the information boards for each one are very informative. There is a lot a of walking to do to get around all of the zoo, but it is flat and there is plenty of chairs/benches. Well worth visiting more than once.

Absolutely incredible zoo! Staff are extremely friendly (along with volunteers), the animals and their habitats are amazing!, so much information provided about the animals, environment and how we can help them, you can also see just how dedicated they are to the environment! Would 100% recommend this place to anyone! The only downfall is how big the place is but it's a very small price to pay in order for the animals to have incredible habitats!

It was a great day. Weather was windy and most animals were either inside or asleep, but we brought 3 kids and they all loved it. The animals that were out and active were still interesting and made it worth it. Might give a 5-star when covid restrictions are up and ALL areas are open again.

First time at the zoo. Got there for opening time 10am, they pen you in near the elephants which becomes overcrowded very quickly. You’d think they’d just line people up at the main gates and then filter people in. So wandering around, the vast majority of the animals are still asleep at this time of morning. The suns hot, the animals have more sense than to come out and play in the hot morning sun. So the vast majority of the animals from lions, monkeys, and leopards, were all still tucked up in bed. Was a shame we didn’t get to see them. Maybe they should entice them out with some food? But there’s so much more to see and do. There’s loads of other pens that you can actually go inside. Such as the bat cave, where huge bats are flying about above your head and past your face. There’s loads of places for food and drink, loads of places to picnic which is probably the best thing to do. We spent a good 4hrs in the zoo. Definitely visit again in a few years, and highly recommended.

An Unforgettable Wildlife Adventure at Chester Zoo I recently had the pleasure of visiting Chester Zoo, and I must say, it was an experience I won't forget! The moment I stepped through the gates, I was immersed in a world of wonder and amazement. The variety and beauty of the wildlife here are simply breathtaking. From the majestic elephants to the playful monkeys swinging through the trees, every exhibit was a treat for the senses. The zoo's commitment to conservation and animal welfare shines through in every corner. What impressed me the most was the educational aspect. The informative talks and interactive displays added depth to the experience, allowing visitors to learn while having fun. The staff's dedication and passion for wildlife conservation were evident throughout the park. The layout is fantastic, offering a well-thought-out path that allowed me to explore comfortably without missing anything. The facilities were clean and well-maintained, and there were ample spots to take a break, relax, and enjoy the surroundings. The zoo's commitment to sustainability and the environment is admirable. It's evident they're not just a place for entertainment but a force for positive change in the world. Overall, my visit to Chester Zoo was an absolute delight! It's a must-visit for nature enthusiasts, families, and anyone seeking a fantastic day surrounded by beautiful animals and a welcoming atmosphere. A big thumbs up to Chester Zoo for their incredible efforts in wildlife preservation and for providing such an unforgettable experience."

Chester Zoo is one of my most favourite places to visit EVER. I struggle with change though so if I leave too much time between each visit it can be exhausting for my little brain! This just goes to show how the zoo is always evolving and making things better for the animals they care for. I have lots of fond memories of times at the zoo. I love the history of Chester Zoo. Watching Our Zoo on BBC 1 was great as was the book. The only bad thing I feel towards the zoo is the cost of souvenirs. However that's because I have no self control and love all the cute giraffe stuff. The Chimpanzees are a great troop to visit, the herd of Elephants are very entertaining too and The giraffes ... Well I could spend all day watching them. Food halls I think are reasonably priced although there are lots of great spots for picnics. The staff are excellent in their talks on the animals and are very pleasant and knowledgeable if you catch one to ask a question too. Handy bus from Chester train Station makes it accessible for non drivers. Awesome place definitely worth a visit 🦒🐘🐒🦧🦓🦁🐅

Love visiting Chester Zoo, great size and variety of animals to see. Went in December after Boxing Day and on arrival found out all the indoor enclosures were shut due to covid. Despite this we still managed to see a good variety of the animals including; Cheetahs, lions, camels, bears, penguins, elephants and the most photogenic orangutans. Took a lot of pics, a lot of walking around the vast grounds, still worth the £23 entrance fee and helps maintain the zoo during difficult times. Free Parking but bring your own food and drink. Cons: Currently no monorail or boat rides, shops and cafes shut, entire monkey sections closed as well as the indoor marine and reptile sections.

Despite the current situation Chester Zoo remains a great place to visit. Obviously the indoor attractions are closed but the zoo still has plenty to offer and with bags of space Covid compliance isn't much of an issue. Well worth the visit but don't forget to book in advance.

Brilliant day out! Booked tickets online, reserved a mobility scooter to rent via email. Plenty of hand sanitiser stations around the site. All the animals are in amazing enclosures. Gardens and foliage give the zoo a very natural feel. Plenty of eateries, snack huts and picnic areas, and some fantastic play areas for kids.

Very large area to get around, was very busy with no option on social distancing. We may have picked an off day as the animals were not out & about as much as we expected. Food not too badly priced & plenty of outlets dotted around for convenience. Not won over on this visit but weather was spot on.

Chester zoo loads of in closures closed with no pre warning until you get to the door to find them closed. world recommend calling to make sure which ones are closed to stop disappointed children. Most of the food huts were closed! If you want to eat at the oak field free house make sure you booked in advance or you will be disappointed like we were and had to walk back to the entrance to eat in the only food hall open, the staff were happy to help but the food was atrocious, tasting like it had been cooked five times over wouldn’t recommend eating there. The animals that were available looked well cared for with nice large areas compared to other zoos. There’s gel stations all over the site for Covid. More then enough disabled parking spaces about 20 electric car charging points let alone normal spaces an coach parking and the obligatory toy shop not that badly priced to be fair for this type of attraction.

Fantastic place to visit with the kids as well as big kids, we should have started when they opened at 10am but we arrived late 1pm. We did all the coloured sections on the map, saw almost everything and we highly recommend wearing comfortable footwear as this place will involve you walking a lot. They also offer a buggy service where you can rent one out for the day, we should have done this as the kids towards the end of the day were shattered. In the yellow section of their map there is a boat ride which we didn't do due to time but for next time and as a great tip, it's better to do the yellow section and purple sections of the map first before going to the other side. Highly recommended, we were not locals to the area so it was on the list of zoo's to be done in the UK. Great day out for the kids.

We visited on what they call "Into the Night" basically it almost like a private viewing for whomever wishes to pay for it, the normal Zoo patrons have to vacate the zoo for around 5pm but we then had the park to ourselves! Well us and the other throngs that decided it was also a good idea! We then had until 9pm to enjoy the park with a vastly decreased number of visitors with all the eating places, special exhibits and enclosures all being open we all had a wonderful time!! Would thoroughly recommend for those like me who have grown to dislike crowd's!

Great zoo well worth a visit, nicely laid out with plenty of maps signposts and eateries/ toilets across the zoo. New Heart of Africa area being built, ready in 2025. Timing is everything when spotting the animals, look for feeding times to see them. Staff exceptional and helpful Takes a full day to see everything. Cheaper to book tickets online than just turning up. Download a map from the website before arriving.

We went to the lanterns and lights show that they have on in November and December it was fantastic we enjoyed this very much. I would definitely recommend going seeing this stunning event. Be prepared to walk so wear comfy shoes and wrap up. The only downside was the extortionate price of food and drinks in the food village.

It's always a great day at Chester Zoo! Amazing animals and well looked after, if you do visit you should definitely visit the chimpanzees and bat enclosure. Unfortunately when we last went, there was a local case of bird flu nearby so the bird enclosures were closed to protect the birds but from all the times I've been before the open enclosures for the birds are great. Its amazing to have such a local zoo which genuinely looks after the animals welfare and funds great causes to improve wildlife all round!

Amazing place for kids to learn and see their favourite animals. The Zoo's facilities are very good and the animals appear to be well looked after and content. Hope they manage to make some revenue back lost from Covid. Be patient and remember they need all the help they can get.

Absolutely amazing place. The animals are all clearly happy, the enclosures are incredible, and the staff are all extremely friendly and more than happy to stop and talk to you about the animals. It's not the cheapest place to visit but it is a full day out and well worth the money. The day flies by.

Lovely day out. Big open enclosures for the animals took a long day to see it all ,plenty of eateries and picnic spot and play areas for kids. The zoo is clean and staff are friendly and helpful. Loved the inside Avery areas and Islands experience. The enclosures are set up with animals in mind more than on display for people which is good for animal welfare and means you have to be more patient to see the animals. No keepers talks but guess that's down to covid regulations still. If I had to say a negative it would be the boat ride. Although a lovely ride for 15 mins I thought it was going to show you all the animal enclosures it passed with a different view to that of those walking. There was only a few areas to see mainly the lovely warty hog but some areas like the orangutan was overgrown so even though they were out you couldn't see them, was a shame as after 1/2 hour queue I was looking forward to it. But was the only negative thing I have to say. Will be returning at some point soon.

Absolutely love Chester Zoo - so much to do and see, it really is such value for money as you can spend absolutely all day here. My daughter adopted a penguin during lockdown, so she was delighted to go and see 'her penguin' 😂

Always an awesome day out at Chester Zoo. Managed to see many many animals. My two daughters and their friend 10, 6 and 6 absolutely loved it. We did 11.k of walking but it was fantastic . Recommended. Parking was easy and close too.

A great day out! Wear your walking shoes. A day really isn't enough. Surprisingly not filled with gift shops which is refreshing. Thought has been put into every enclosure, ensuring happy stimulated animals but also great viewing for customers. Lots of close up interactions in 'walk through' exhibits. Informative signage. Staff were a delight! My favourite...the Aye-aye (unbelievably adorable and an actual sighting this time!) Try to catch feeding time, you see so much more of the animals.

Fantastic zoo! The place is huge! Loads of ground to cover with lovely big enclosures for all the animals. The staff were friendly, the site was clean and well kept. We did struggle a little to get food towards the end of our day, the cafe had run out of nearly everything. Other than that, a truly wonderful day, good for all ages!

Went for a fantastic afternoon out with friends. We arrived late but could get round in just under three hours! The animals were very obviously well cared for and there was a brilliant range of exhibits. The 'Islands' section was particularly well put together and was a lovely setting.

Enjoyed the visit, traffic awful getting there. Staff helpful and friendly. Needs food stalls jotted about and toilets rather than in one place. Queues were too long and it was so cold. Still worth a visit, lot of hardwork went into it. Impressed with parking and it being included. Wrap kids up well. Would get 5 stars if there were food stalls and toilets jotted about the zoo.

You'll need time to get all around this very large zoo, but take the time. It's worth exploring. I didn't get to see it all but had a wonderful day here discovering old favourites but also new animals I'd never heard of before (and I thought I knew my stuff). I'd recommend chatting to the keepers. They are wonderful, helpful, and so happy to share stories about the animals and the zoo. For an incredible, if rather warm experience, the butterfly house is like nothing else. So many gorgeous butterflies all around me, I thought I'd entered a Disney cartoon and I couldn't stop grinning. But find your own special moment. And wear comfy shoes!

An absolute fantastic day out! Fun for all the family. It was amazing being able to be so close to the animals and watch them happily play in their enclosures. I was in awe of the butterfly area, it was like something out of a fairytale in there!! 🦋 I was so disappointed that we simply didn't have enough time to go around everything properly. Some of the animals were asleep out of view and we would have liked to have gone back around. Honestly 5* ... get yourself down there!

Chester zoo has continually improved over recent years, and it is still developing new areas to add to the vast array of displays. You will always be given a friendly welcome by the entrance team and the many volunteers who are available to assist with directions to exhibits or eateries. We bumped into Alan Carr near the Jaguar enclosure yesterday. Will be looking out for the ensuing tv programme with great interest. There is excellent access and facilities for wheelchair users throughout, although some of the hills created by bridges would be demanding of some carers. There are electric wheelchairs available to hire, but I would recommend booking them in advance to guarantee availability. The grounds are maintained impeccably, as are the enclosures of the well cared for inhabitants. There are so many to see that I think a whole day still would not be enough to see everything properly. Expect higher than average prices for refreshments and queues at busy times. There are numerous picnic facilities dotted around the zoo for those who choose to bring their own treats. If you plan on visiting more than four times in a year, I would highly recommend taking out a zoo membership that gives unlimited access for a year. The membership also offers a ten percent discount on all kiosk, restaurant, and shop purchases, plus it supports a fantastic conservation cause.

All we can say is. What an incredible zoo. The animals all have massive enclosures. Lots and lots to see. Beautiful gardens everywhere. Be aware that food and drink is quite highly priced (as you’d expect in a place with no alternative shops). That said, all round excellent. Go see the bats 👍🏻

Great for a day out with family or friends. A bit of travel to get to, (train plus a bus). Make sure you check transit times, otherwise you'll be stuck waiting upwards of an hour if there are delays. A little expensive, but the butterfly room and bat room alone are worth it!

Amazing. Easy to get to from Chester on the bus, it took you right up to the door. A very big place to walk round but a decent map and plenty of places to sit and get a snack or meal on the way round. An amazing and beautiful place for the animals who are in areas according to their home, and that makes it more interesting. Very well cared for. Lots of staff to ask questions. A great mix of popular and more unusual animals. You need a lot of time and it’s best to plan where you want to go. I got a discount on my ticket from the Chester tourist info centre but full price is worth every penny. Unmissable if you visit Chester or just go for the day.

Amazing place. Clean, spacious enclosures, animals seemed really happy and well cared for. Pricey when buying food and drink inside so would recommend taking a picnic, but what place isn't pricey on food and drink nowadays. The zoo was clean throughout, staff lovely and helpful. Boat ride down the lazy river is free. Flat ground to walk round, signage could be better. Can hire buggies for children and for those with mobility issues. A great day out.

I have always loved visiting Chester zoo. It's pricey to get into compared to other zoos but it is massive and you can definitely spend a full day there wandering around looking at all the Animals. There is lots to see and lots to do. It does get busy so I always head to the far part of the zoo first and then work my way back to the entrance. I do find the food is expensive there so I usually take a picnic lunch, there are lots of picnic benches dotted around where you can eat. If you do want to buy food while at the zoo there are lots of little kiosks dotted around.

The lights (no lanterns) was a lovely experience but its not worth the price. We were lucky to have good weather no rain and wrapped up warm for the cold. All ages from 2-35 we did enjoy the different displays and the staff were fantastic but I will not come again as it isn’t worth the price you pay.

A really great zoo with loads of animals. Covid measures have limited the zoo to what they can offer but the majority of what they have is available. You have to wear a mask when in inside, which is to be expected now, but other than that its a good zoo. Its a big zoo, so be prepared to walk alot. The animals have very large enclosures which is nice to see.

Visited today, the weather kept off which is always great. Staff on hand all around the zoo, toilets all open and clean, nice clean and tidy all around the zoo and enclosures. I understand with Covid that certain parts of the zoo were closed but it would of been nice to of been told before hand and a map would of also been a bonus considering how much we paid to get in. (We were at Dudley zoo yesterday and got a map upon entry). We were looking forwards to getting a gift from the shop but it was extortionately over priced! We only had to do track and trace before entering the gift shop. There was track and trace before entering the zoo itself but I didn’t see anyone using it or being told to either.

I'm ever so sorry to say that I would not recommend a weekday visit during school holidays during the coronavirus restrictions. Having paid very close to £100 for a family of 4 we found there were queues of 30-50 minutes outside the major indoor exhibits, given we'd opted for an after 12pm ticket as we had a long drive to get there, we were really disappointed. Access to some enclosures was stopped well before closing. Given the awful weather, most things were inside or visible only from a one-way system with... another queue. It was made harder to see what we wanted due to a lack of maps, sign posts and map boards (luckily I'd printed one), and a hard to use app. You follow one sign to a junction, then you have no idea where to go next. I feel robbed.

Only down side was no map to guide you round except some boards but felt there wasnt enough of them. Also went back to see the Elephants before we left about 4.25pm but they'd already taken them in. Well worth a visit though 👍

Not a great experience this time to be honest. Been here a few times before but this has probably got to be the worst time. Told my 3 year old and 6 year old autistic daughter to wear a face mask in the lemur walk-through! The law says exempt for under 11, when addressing the man about the legal requirements, he said these are the rules. Will be putting in an official complaint.

Visited today was surprised how many families were let in at the same time. We felt very uncomfortable walking from the busy carpark through the crowded gates. Crowded in lots of areas with people not keeping a safe distance especially as we had to queue to see a lot of the animals. Make sure you wear waterproof clothing and footwear as there were a lot of puddles and not much in the way of shelter from the rain. The little children really enjoyed splashing in the puddles as they walked around, lovely to see them enjoying themselves. Lots of antibac stations and hand washing areas available. Long queues for the toilets but clean and hygienic. Plenty of staff around to help or answer questions. It was a shame some areas were closed due to renovation or covid but to be expected. Lots of benches to sit down and have a picnic, not too long a wait to get a hot drink. Didn't go into the cafe as the queue was far too long. The animals we did get to see were amazing especially the elephants. The enclosures were well thought out with lots of room for the animals and plenty to keep them occupied. They all looked well kept and fed. Lovely to see the conservation work the zoo does and to be able to read all about it as we walked around. Two adults, three children aching muscles but very happy to have spent the day there.

Unfortunately at this present moment during Covid , it should be called "Que Zoo" as that's all me and my family have done today at a cost of £95 .Some of our waiting times were 45+ mins and then that was to view mostly empty enclosures. We waited for over 1 hour to get into the newly built enclosure only to be rushed around and pushed out the door due to closing time. Do not book the 12-5pm slot as this is what you will end up doing ... Queing and not seeing most of the attractions, well the ones that are actually there. Sorry not one for leaving reviews but after today and a 2 hour drive back home I felt the need.

We absolutely LOVE Chester Zoo!!! We'd rather drive the extra miles than visit anything closer and given the current climate would also support in any way we can to keep it open. However, we visited on Sunday and left feeling very underwhelmed, and unsafe at times. Even though tickets are still full price there are many 'indoor' area's that are closed, like the bat enclosure, which we understand, but the butterfly journey IS open so if you pop your mask on you can still visit them Because there any many things closed, for your safety, the things that are open had a queue and unfortunately at times a few of these were over half an hour - 45 minutes long There are plenty of signs around the place asking visitors to social distance, but this also wasn't adhered to On the plus side..the children had a lovely time! For us though, we won't be back until things change OR the price reflects the current situation

I've had lovely days out at Chester zoo before. This was my first time with my 2 year old after purchasing a membership. We didn't pick the best day- weather wasn't great and many of the animals seemed to prefer indoors- which with covid measures made it not so great. Obviously Chester Zoo have done their best, but there were queues for everything- food, toilets, apes, lions, butterflies. And each queue due to distancing etc took a good long time to go down. I didn't join many as my 2 year old really didn't enjoy the first one, and it is stressful trying to keep a toddler in one place for any period of time! I'll be going back, and I'm sure we will have some good days. Just unlucky with the weather, more animals out and about would have been nice- but I don't blame them for wanting to shelter! I'm also pointlessly annoyed with Covid! I know, got to ride that one out, and I'm very pleased Chester Zoo is able to open and get some funding for what they do again.

I would not reccomend visiting the zoo during covid. You have to que up to see practically every animal and people are not socially distancing. So you feel as though you can't take your time looking at the animals as there ate people right behind you. We had to skip alot of the animals as the ques were just too long. I feel like the owners need to limit the number of people actually visiting the zoo on each day so you can still actually enjoy the experience. They could also put estimated waiting times at the entrance of each que (like they do in theme parks) so you can plan your day there better. The best animals we saw were the giraffes and the elephants.

Only my second visit previous visited 25 years ago. Overall it's one of the better zoo's, some frustrations with use of the app, which could be improved to make it more smart phone (android) friendly. A number of the exhibits were closed, what was open often had long waiting times, you felt like you were in a peep show with very limited time to look at the animals and talk to my son about them. Some of the enclosures are clearly too small for the animals, with leopards walking in circles. I really hope the expansion of the zoo can address this. It's a shame they axed the monorail as in principle this is a great way of giving animals more space and enabling people to see them. On the positive side the tiger enclosure seemed to give them a space which was a bit more complex and a larger area. You need about 2acres to keep a cow and these are heard animals (often giving a small group 20 acres and a change of scenery every few weeks as they change fields) putting a couple of big cats in less than an acre (I'm not sure how big the leopard enclosure was) seems insufficient.

Always updating exhibits and creating new areas to wander around. The indoor exhibits are still open despite covid-19, you just need to wear a mask inside. Have visited before and will visit again!

Lovely zoo, but unfortunately far too much was closed off due to setting up for "The Lanterns", the current pandemic and cases of bird flu. Whilst I understand many of these things can't be controlled, it would have been nice to have been made aware of the closures as it made for a very expensive day which was a bit disappointing.

We came for the lanterns our daughter has special needs. The zoo changed our dates 3 times due to lockdown/ self isolation they were so accommodating. It is the only thing we didn't have to cancel in December and we are very grateful.

Didn't see many animals as they were inside and due to "restrictions" couldn't go in the indoor enclosures. Plenty of drinks and snacks available throughout to purchase and a steep price (£4 for 7 mini doughnuts warmed up) Amazing how the gift shop was able to open though with current restrictions

Zoo is awesome !!! If you watching the program in the TV and after a few months you visit the place you got that awesome feeling of knowing animals and all the story’s about them. Really recommend to get tickets for 2 days, one day is not enough to fully enjoy yourself without rushing. Massive zoo. The map is a bit confusing but easy to hack once you’re there. Loads of places to eat and drink, picnic spots, smoking section, toilets ect. Highly recommend !!

Chester zoo is a wonderful place to visit. It's big enough that you can come back multiple times to explore different areas, especially if you like to take your time when looking at the animals. You can easily spend the whole day, or just a few hours. There are multiple zones within the zoo with different themes, such as the Islands. There are plenty of places to eat to suit every budget. You have grab and go type places, indoor eating, and more upscale dining. If you dont want to spend money on food, there are lots of sunny places to eat on the grass or plenty of picnic tables to enjoy the food you bring from home. If your kids get bored or have too much energy, there are several play areas to enjoy. They are well kept and well thought out. They are suitable for multiple ages and are big enough for parents to join in if you have young or nervous children. There are so many learning opportunities. There are information displays for each animal, detailing things such as habitat, diet, behaviours and country of origin. They also have other displays scattered around the zoo aimed at conservation, recycling, and endangered animals. They also have animal talks throughout the day, where you can learn more and even ask questions. All in all, this is a wonderful place to visit and fabulous outing for people of all ages.

Had a great time out at Chester Zoo on a Tuesday in mid December. Fairly quiet so if you're not a fan of crowds - now is the time to go! Everything seemed to be open other than than the Fruit Bats enclosure.

  • 4/5 Bronwen W. 3 years ago on Google
It was pretty cold but totally worth it as there were no crowds. They were setting up the lanterns which was pretty. Only downside was the awful coffee (sorry!)and the lack of options in the gift shop but considering everything going on that's fair. Would definitely go again but maybe when it is warmer! Good social distancing measures in place, felt very safe.

An amazing place to visit, so much to see and do at Chester Zoo. Thete is certain areas that have "Free flying" animals and bugs, so be prepared to have birds, bat's and bees fly around you. Chester Zoo is the best zoo I have every visited, will return again.

I have been to this Zoo and all the staff including the owner look after all of the animals with plenty of tender loving care, with kindness and plenty of love and warmth. I would recommended everyone to come to this wonderful zoo. All of the staff in general are good at looking after all of the animals very nicely and they are exceptionally very good at their job. This is one of my favourite zoo's. Once again I would definitely recommended everyone in the whole world to come and visit this exceptionally marvellous and beautiful zoo. In adding all of the staff that work at this Zoo have Exceptionally lovely personalities.

We visited Chester zoo in Dec 2020 and there couldn't have been a better way to spend some time outdoors after being confined to home for a long time. Although the weather wasn't ideal, the visited pepped us and gave us the energy to face yet another lockdown that came our way. We cant wait to go back there again when the weather and overall conditions are better. Definitely a must see place. If you have children, you should definitely take them for a visit. Chester Zoo, opened in 1931 by George Mottershead and his family, is the largest and most visited zoo in the UK. It is operated by the North of England Zoological Society, and is the most-visited wildlife attraction in Britain with more than 2 million visitors in 2019. The zoo has consistently received top ratings from visitors and magazines and travels sites - in 2007 Forbes described it as one of the 15 best zoos in the world. In 2017, Chester Zoo was named as the best zoo in the UK and third in the world by TripAdvisor. Chester Zoo has a large and diverse collection of birds and animals. Apart from the birds and animals, there are children's play areas, shops, kiosks and several picnic lawns around the zoo so that the entire family can enjoy a day at the premises. If you wish to be a part of the conservation efforts, zoo offers a service that gives people the option of adopting an animal of their choice. The sponsors get two complimentary tickets that allow them to visit the animals. Apart from this, you can become members which allows you to visit Chester and a range of other zoos across England free of charge for a year.

Always a great day out, we got lucky and timed it right to see so many of the animals active! Obviously the conservation work is just fantastic and to support that is great! I'd say for a loved one buy one of the sponsorships on offer because it makes the journey and time at the zoo so much better! Photo's are not from last visit because we just had such a good day!

Great experience for all the family. Lots of parking and easy to get to from the A55. Inside there are plenty of places to eat or take your own picnic. There is some great spots in the centre for picnics. Face painting for the kids was reasonably priced and they can choose what animal they want to be for the day.

Such an amazing zoo, I went with my husband and two children. We have been to a good few zoos around the UK and this was the best. Everything is well signposted in the zoo and and although the animals are in big enclosure, it doesn't take too long to go from one to another. And the viewing areas have been really thought out well without the animals being crowded. There are plenty of places to rest, releave yourself and get refreshments.

  • 4/5 Laura C. 2 years ago on Google
The most amazing zoo! We've been to a closer zoo many times before but find it depressing. We won't return now! This place is massive, but not to the point where it's overwhelming. A massive array of animals, all with really well maintained, large enclosures. All staff were really friendly and helpful too. I've knocked a star off for the lack of signage in certain areas, but also for the VERY long wait for certain food. Some of our party had a burger and soon got served. There was a smaller queue for the fish and chip stall and yet the wait was over triple the time of the other places! As delicious as they were, it was a ridiculous time to wait. However, a really fabulous day out for all ages - we'll be back!

I've been visiting since I was a child. It's the best zoo I've ever been to. It's a full day out, so much to see and explore. The zoo is so well kept with brilliant keepers, friendly staff and happy relaxed animals. The butterfly house is my new favourite and a fantastic experience

  • 4/5 Jessica W. 2 years ago on Google
Really great day at the zoo today. Term time Mid week visit, so not overly crowded, despite the lovely weather. This would have been a 5 star review, unfortunately a couple of things were closed (the boat ride around the islands was down for maintenance, shame as we were looking forward to it and also the bat enclosure also closed). We will definitely be back agsin though. Our 1 and 3 year old boys had a lovely time.

  • 4/5 Katie D. 2 years ago on Google
Very well laid out and spacious zoo. Lots of facilities throughout the park and plenty of seating. I visited on a Tuesday and it was very busy, so no doubt the weekends are even busier. I’d recommend arriving at opening time as we spent the entire day there and still didn’t see everything! Wheelchair and buggy accessible throughout.

This is a great day out and a great experience, love the way it's layed out in particular the islands, if you do go these are a must, very realistic. And the staff are always very friendly and helpful. Go there 😀👍

  • 3/5 Becky S. 2 years ago on Google
This is a wonderful zoo for the animals, unfortunately not for visitors. We struggled to see most of the bigger animals as their enclosures were empty or very big giving the animals plenty of hiding places There are not enough places for people to sit in food areas or benches around the zoo. It is a huge zoo for little legs and it was just impossible to find places to sit. It was very clean but not enough bins. The indoor areas were very crowded and no social distancing was adhered to. Overall, paying nearly £100 to enter, not seeing many animals is not on. Unfortunately we wouldn't visit again

  • 4/5 Carren T. 2 years ago on Google
It was a very quiet day, not many visitors which made it very easy to get around and see (almost) everything. Some of the animal houses were closed due to covid? which seemed stupid to me, by hey what do I know. I really enjoyed the boat trip around the islands, it was lunch time so we enjoyed our lunch as we slowly boated around! We stopped at a food place (see photo) for a hot drink, one black coffee, one white coffee and a mocha all for £7.80, these were big takeaway cups and we all enjoyed our drinks, would deffinatly recommend for the coffee though I didn't sample any of the food. Chester zoo is a place of many faces, some areas feel old and drab, others modern and clean. The monorail is currently being dismantled which also led to a couple of areas being closed. The zoo has a wide selection of animals, cafe's and childrens play areas. The car park is large and very close to the entrance, prepayment is recommended as you almost walk straight in as your QR code is scanned. Over all I would recommend this as a great day out for kids of all ages, toddlers to grand parents. Four stars only given due the closed areas. See photos for a small selection of the animals seen.

Absolutely fantastic place to visit its the 2nd best zoo in the world for a reason! We started off our adventure and headed straight for the islands to avoid busy periods later on in the day. Boat trip around the island was great. Unfortunately it rained during our visit not a problem though we headed to the shop and purchased 3 ponchos and carried on our adventure undeterred by the torrential downpour. Stopped off at the food court for lunch and was pleasantly surprised by the heaters which we took full advantage given the rain. All in all a great day at the zoo for me and my family and we would highly recommend a visit here.

  • 5/5 Julia A. 2 years ago on Google
Chester Zoo is arguably one of the best zoos here in the UK! ❤️ There is loads of animals and enclosures to explore and the animals are well taken care of. This is our second time visiting Chester zoo and honestly, this is probably not the last. Each time is just seems like there is just so much to explore and to see. Definitely need to wear comfy shoes and visit during a nice weather, as some animals may be staying in their enclosures during a bad or rainy weather.

Beautiful, well kept zoo, with a large variety of animals, including some we hadn't seen elsewhere. All have large enclosures but we were still able to see the majority too. So much to do that we didn't have time for it all in one day! Also great food options, including for gluten free (Fish & chips, pizza and more), which was a very nice surprise! All in all, a great day out for all ages, great value and can't recommend enough.

It's a Zoo, what's not to love. The animals are adorable, and there is definitely plenty too see, took 4 hours walking round to see everything that was open! Will have to return as some things are still not open due to covid. Just make sure you've got some comfy shoes on, and take snacks and drinks with you and there sadly isn't much choice, but that could just be the time of year.

An amazing day out for the whole family. Animals to see, in spacious well- designed accommodation, play areas for the kids, a pub for the parents and plenty of kiosks, restaurants and toilets. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly. On top of all this, there is the satisfaction of knowing that the money goes towards conservation and other good causes. Highly recommended way to spend a weekend.

We had the best day out as an extended family outing! Fun and interest for everyone. So many animals to see, in fact you probably need two days to get around the zoo! We took out 2 girls for the Christmas lights. It was great and our 3 year old loved it and had a great time even though the weather wasn't great. We found this visit was better then when we have visited during the day. The only thing that I could say is maybe add a little lighting along the path as it was exactly dark in places.

  • 5/5 Ant G. 2 years ago on Google
Second year visiting the lanterns and equally as magical for us all. Nice way to explore in the dark with a little one. Plan for it to be Cold and wet and you should be set. This year wellies on and lots of puddle splashing made it even more fun as there are some really dark sections where you might not spot puddles until your feet are soaked!

Awesome zoo. It's set out over a large area so you definitely need comfy shoes. There's plenty of stalls selling food, aswell as a few cafes and restaurants, however they can be a bit expensive. Having said that, the quality of the food is really good so you definitely get what you pay for. There are plenty of benches available if you prefer to take a picnic, and there's conveniently located playgrounds for the kids next to most big picnic areas. All the enclosures try to mimic the natural environment of the animals, and the indoor tropical realm and butterfly house are fabulous! Fantastic zoo and definitely worth a visit.

  • 5/5 Hollie K. 2 years ago on Google
Visited on a Sunday, there was no queue to enter and plenty of food and drink places to go or places to sit down and eat if you bring a picnic. Staff were friendly and helpful all over the grounds. If going for the first time you would definitely need all day to cover the whole place.

Absolutely amazing place to visit. Stayed in a nearby hotel the night before and arrived for opening time the next day so me and my family could spend the day exploring and we were not disappointed! Even when the weather was not so good, we found plenty of areas covered over with animals to see and had a fantastic day for my little ones birthday. The staff were fantastic and very helpful and each one of them saw my daughters badge and wished her a happy birthday 🙂. There's lots of places to eat on your way round and the gift shops are great and fairly priced too. We will certainly be going back in the future.

Quite busy and lots of crowds, sadly didn't have time to see all the animals we wanted to. Reasonable entry fee, park was clean and in good order, and many staff members around to ask questions. Animals seemed happy and well cared for in interesting and engaging environments

Wow. Amazing zoo. Really well laid out. Fantastic variety of animals. Plenty of stops for snacks etc. Reasonably priced. Family of 4 from 13 to 48...all enjoyed. Book online recommended.

This was a fantastic day out seeing all the wonderful animals. I hired a scooter free to get round with a friend. The weather was rainy at first but cleared up after lunch. I can recommend this excursion highly.

Absolutely LOVED the zoo!! No wait to get in we went on a Monday. There was a groups of schools sadly but they did leave around 2pm! We were there from 10am till close at 5pm and we only just managed to see all the exhibits. Our fave was bats!

Fantastic place. Animals all look healthy. Unfortunately not enough sign posts and couldn't buy a map so missed a few of the animals. Overall great place. Can recommend a visit, preferably not during school holidays!

Highly recommended! Amazing day for the whole family. Apart from usual animals there was also a short boat cruise ⛵and the Butterfly House 🦋. Toilets are at every turn so no need to search for them. I advice to come at ten when the zoo is being opened as it is really huge and you need a couple of hours to enjoy it properly.

Wow, wow, wow! Honestly one of the best Zoo i ever been. Always wanted to come here and finally made it. What a fantastic place to visit. It took us at least 3-4 hours to see most things and the price was cheap for it. I really felt like I was in another world . Great place for any age, especially for kids and families. I highly recommend it to visit this amazing Chester Zoo. Great way to spend the day. Loads of places to get food and drinks. Thanks again Chester Zoo for this amazing experience and warm welcome.

Great zoo with a good selection of animals to see, (see enclosed map), gardens and children play areas. You could easily spend the whole day here.

Definitely one of the best zoos in the country. Huge zoo with loads of variety in animals. Be prepared for quite a bit of walking and allow plenty of time for your visit. We visited on a relatively quiet weekday and managed the zoo in about 5 hours so definitely worth arriving early on a busy day.

Wow! What a zoo. Didn't realise how big it was. Lovely family day spent here. Kids loved it too! Would definitely visit again.

Unfortunately the jaguar was not available and the main attractions were impossible to see - don't know if they were hiding from the public or away for the day but the kids loved it. Loads of things to see and do. Some of the glass was extremely dirty and damaged such that it was almost impossible to see through. Negatives aside, it was a pleasant day out and a decent venue. Massive place!

Always wanted to visit this Zoo!! and finally ticked off :) Large zoo with plenty of animals, lovely clean enclosures. there are good selection of "keeper for the day" experiences at an additional charge. A large section of the zoo is under construction so would be exciting to return and see how much has changed. Lovely Gift shop on the outside of the zoo with a large range of stock. Didn't have to wait or queue, scanned our tickets, got given our zoo map and went straight in.

So impressed. Best zoo I've ever visited. Keepers were amazing. Helpful, accommodating, happy to answer questions even when just walking around doing their jobs, not just when doing a talk. The food outlets were plenty and first class.

Absolutely brilliant day out. I suggest buying a £1 map on your way in as its a very big place. Snack/ rest areas are never too far away and there are lots of staff to maintain the place and help you if you need it. The animals are very well kept and the place is extremely clean.

We had the most amazing time at Chester zoo yesterday! It was lovely to see all the staff there helping the animals and being so attentive. I would suggest getting there after dinner, as we got there around 10:30am and a lot of the animals were still asleep and hiding. I would also suggest bringing your own food, as the queues and service in the food court was quite slow. Overall, the experience was incredible and we cannot wait to go again!

Chester zoo is always a great experience except when it's over busy. This time was just before the school holidays so not to bad. Had a great time waking around seeing lots of animals, and it's great to see a new area under construction for 2025 to improve more of the habitats and animal welfare. It is getting very expensive to get in but it does all go towards animal care

  • 4/5 Nicolas O. 7 months ago on Google
I thought this was really overpriced, I'm glad I am supporting lots of wildlife projects, but I don't think this was good value for money. The monsoon house was by far the best, lots of enclosures where you saw nothing and big queues for the boat trip. It's also jam packed with kids and families at this time of year. I did want to come here but doubt I would again.

  • 5/5 Cassie P. 8 months ago on Google
Lovely day at the zoo. Even though it rained, there was still plenty to see and do. The new planet shark area was amazing. Staff were friendly and happy to chat and tell us about the animals as we wandered around. Buy tickets in advance online if you know you're going as they have a rainy day policy and offer another visit free. Unfortunately, ours was an impromptu visit and we bought our tickets on the gate and did not qualify.

  • 5/5 Alif2108 8 months ago on Google
Fantastic day out with family and friends. Recommend you arrive as soon as it opens as there us so much to see you need to spend a whole day to get around all the enclosures. There is a lot of walking to do too we covered 7 miles and didn't see it all as it was very busy with lots of young families around. Lots of places to eat and drink (although we took a packed lunch) and the facilities were clean and checked regularly.... lots of extra staff around to guide and advise the visitors...very highly recommended !

We experienced chester zoo into the night. We went at 5pm and stayed till it closed at 9pm. I would definitely go again in the evening as I felt I saw a lot more animals than I would have done during the day. It was a lot quieter in the evening, but unfortunately, there were no animal talks.

🦁 Zoo Experience: Chester Zoo, as always, provides an enchanting journey through the world of wildlife. The vast array of animals, from the smallest insects to the majestic lions, is presented in well-maintained enclosures that are both educational and awe-inspiring. 🎬 Luna Outdoor Cinema: The highlight of the yesterday's visit was the screening of Top Gun Maverick at the Luna Cinema. Nestled within the zoo's grass car park, watching this iconic movie under the stars added a magical touch to the experience. Even the weather wasn't an issue! ✈️ Movie Vibes: Top Gun Maverick's thrilling aerial sequences coupled with the crisp audio from Luna's setup made it feel as if we were soaring with the jets. The nostalgic vibes were strong, and the audience was clearly engrossed. 🍿 Amenities: Luna ensured that everyone had access to snacks, drinks, and comfortable seating. The entire setup was well-organized, ensuring a seamless cinematic experience amidst nature. 🌟 Overall: Chester Zoo's collaboration with Luna Cinema offers a unique way to enjoy blockbuster movies. Combining the wonders of wildlife with the thrill of cinema, this experience is a must-try for anyone visiting the zoo. Highly recommended!

Took my grandson for a visit, could really have done with more than 5 hours as there is so much to see and do. Some planning in advance is recommended so that you know what you want to see and where to locate it. The zoo has grown in size since I went as a child and continues to expand and develop, great conservation work being done.

Had a fantastic day here although it is a really long walk round and we had about 5 hours here and didn't manage to see everything . You can hire mobility scooters and buggy cart thingys so perfect for poorly legs or little legs .. the cafes were OK for drinks and ice-cream not much choice for food but loads and loads of places for picnics so take your own food . All the animals were kept in really clean and tidy and enclosures and looked happy enough plenty of room and hiding places for them . The elephants made my day such enormous and beautiful animals . Overall had a brilliant day and will go back x

Massive zoo in the north of England. Full of exotic animals and they are adding more all the time. Zoo does a lot for conservation around the world. Plenty of food stalls scattered around the grounds as well as restaurants and cafes. Plenty of parking. Parking stewards on standby to direct you. Toilets around the park. Wheelchair friendly. Gift shops. I recommend booking tickets online as it's cheaper to do so than paying at the desk on the day.

Really enjoyed our day at Chester Zoo. Great value for money as there's so much to see! The animals looked well cared for and there were so many species to see. The only slight niggle was food. I didn't like June's food court very much. I would have liked the option to have some better quality food. Maybe there is somewhere else and I missed it? The Gorilla virtual reality experience was fab. We loved seeing the elephants enjoying the hose pipe. The shark experience was really fun. Sit down and watch the film on the big screen. It's amazing! There are fish moving on the floor too which my daughter loved chasing around. We were really happy to see a black Jaguar so close up and incredible to see the chimpanzees!! Would definitely go back again.

Great visit, the kids loved it, spent about 6 hours here. Big area to cover with little legs so I would recommend having a list of favourite animals you want to see first and get them ticked off. Would recommend taking a packed lunch, you could leave it in the car and fetch it at lunchtime, there are plenty of places to eat at a picnic, saying that there is a food court with a variety of food on offer, burgers, fish and chips, pizza etc. They are always adding new attractions and we will definitely be going back!

  • 5/5 Katie P. 7 months ago on Google
Lovely zoo. Good parking, very accessible to all, a range of mobility scooters and pushchairs available to hire. Food and drink is pricey but loads of picnic benches are located around the zoo so recommend taking your own if you can. Lovely big gift shop at the end. Well worth a visit, but be prepared for a long day if you want to get around it all, we spent 6 hours and didn't quite manage to see everything. Would deffo return.

A brilliant zoo with so much to see, impressive large enclosures for most of the animals add to the spectacle - except when the animals sometimes decide to hide! You need a good 6 hours minimum to see everything and enjoy what this wonderful zoo has to offer.

Not bad place, it was nice and clean around not very crowded, however no clear signage, we were following signs and unfortunately we always end up somewhere else (seen more people confused about misleading signs). Secondly, we have hardly seen any animals as the most of them were hiding in a cages or somewhere in the grass or behind the bushes.

Cracking day out. Animals look well and cared for. Very neat and tidy no mess. Other zoos and safari parks need take note of how this place is run. Food from street market area was amazing and decent amount. Cannot fault anything much other than maybe let the public know feeding times of big cats etc as the tigers were hard to spot.

We spent a whole day at Chester Zoo and had a fab time. We arrived at 11am ish and managed to park close to the Zoo's entrance. I suggest to buy tickets online in advance. The weather was great (August) and all the animals were outdoors. We hopped on the boat and enjoyed a mini river cruise. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. We purchased food at one of the restaurant but I wasn't very happy with the quality. I'd recommend this Zoo for a family day out.

  • 5/5 Dan S. 7 months ago on Google
Came when schools had gone back, was much quieter and no queues for anything. Got tickets in advance so they were slightly cheaper than buying on the day. There was so much to see you could easily spend a full day there as there's plenty to do for everyone.

It's a little pricey, but Chester Zoo is an excellent day out for all the family. Keep in mind that the site is huge, so plan your route carefully if you want to get it all done in one day. Lots and lots of walking too, so consider this if you are taking along the little ones - either hire a kiddy buggy from the Zoo or remember the pram.

Lovely to see all the animals but unfortunately I felt the restaurant I went to and the lack of bins or replenishments/vending machines let’s it down a little… As it was a hot day I went, it would have been nice to buy water between the long walks to food/drink stalls.

Chester Zoo is an absolute delight! My visit last year was nothing short of amazing. The sheer diversity of animals and their well-maintained habitats left me in awe. The zoo’s commitment to conservation and education is truly inspiring. The layout is user-friendly, and the signage is informative, making it an enriching experience for all ages. The staff were courteous and helpful, adding to the overall enjoyment. I look forward to revisiting this incredible place in the future!

Chester Zoo is the bee's knees when it comes to a wild day out! I mean, I had a whale of a time, and I didn't even see any whales. But I did see some cheeky monkeys, and they were more entertaining than a stand-up comedy show. The place is so big, it's like a maze of animal awesomeness. I swear, it's like Noah's Ark, but without the rain (thank goodness!). And the staff? They're as friendly as a panda with a bamboo buffet. The zoo is roaring with excitement, from lions to tigers and bears (oh my!), and even the penguins are dressed to impress. It's like a fashion show on ice! And the best part? You can monkey around and not feel guilty. It's the perfect place to "hang" out with the family. So, if you want a wild adventure that's not a "zoo-sance," head to Chester Zoo, where the animals are the real stars of the show! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Love Chester Zoo and on this visit was lucky enough to see Inka and managed to get some pictures. The 4D Gorilla experience is absolutely fantastic and well worth the £10 extra for the 2 of us. Like a couple of other reviews, only marked down because of the food. Very expensive and not very good quality which is a shame because when we first visited in 2019 the food was fantastic but since the food area reopened the quality is awful. Next time we will bring our own food.

  • 4/5 sue s. 5 months ago on Google
It was a good day out if not a bit expensive but I suppose they don't get funding from anywhere else, the price makes it so it's a day out for a special occasion rather than just a day out. Quite a few of the animals were nowhere to be seen but all in all the grandkids enjoyed it & the animals we did see were very well looked after & looked happy. Took a picnic to save on cost but there were places to get food & drink dotted all around the zoo, think the stall I saw said £3.50 for a coffee, other than that i didn't notice prices.

Excellent value for money. We spent the full day there. Unfortunately we didn’t get to see the lions. We were told they weren’t on show at the entrance. Plenty of toilets. Plenty of bins. Lots of seating areas. Great day out for children of all ages.

Chester Zoo was such a fun filled day out! There was something for everyone, young families, young &older couples. The enclosures were all clean and the animals were noticeably well looked after! I suggest taking a picnic blanket and snacks to enjoy a picking in the park in the middle of the Zoo!

Had a lovely visit to Chester Zoo. It's the first time we've been and we really enjoyed it even though it rained for a few hours while we were there. There are some really good viewing platforms for the big animals that means you pretty much get the chance to actually see all the animals . Some of the walkways between animals are unnecessarily long which was a little frustrating, especially in the rain. It was a very clean zoo and the animals seemed to be looked after really well. The only thing we tried to find and couldn't was the shark area.

Loved it, my son had the best time. The food court was a little on the busy side but that's always to be expected! We saw all the animals and enjoyed the river ride. I will definitely be purchasing a membership, it's well worth it.

  • 5/5 Michael L. 5 months ago on Google
Absolutely fabulous day out, this is definitely one of the best zoos in the country. What makes it so good is down to the quality of everything on offer. First and foremost is the well-being of the animals, which are housed in large habitats that are well maintained and balanced to meet the needs of the inhabitants whilst still providing a close-up view for visitors. There's a very strong focus on conservation and education and a variety of displays and activities to reinforce the importance of caring for our environment. There's really so much here for the whole family that a short review cannot do the zoo justice. Go and find out for yourself, you won't be disappointed.

We went to the lanterns and lights show that they have on in November and December it was fantastic the adults enjoyed it more then the children. The shop at the entrance was really well priced. I would definitely recommend going seeing. You can’t see the animals they were in bed 😁

Amazing zoo. Absolutely fantastic. So much to see and do here. There are plenty eateries or benches if you have brought a picnic, plenty toilets and baby changing all were very clean too. The keepers were so friendly and knowledgeable. One in particular was fantastic with my young children. Didn't catch his name but he was in the sun bear section he was really knowledgeable and engaged my children with fascinating facts about the bears. He is a credit to the zoo. Overall such a great experience will definitely return.

Gorgeous place. So much to do and see. The animals are amazing and the scenery is fantastic. It's a huge place so you need comfy shoes to do all the walking. Lots of seating areas for people who need to rest. There's also loads of play areas for the kids. Food/drinks are a little bit expensive but not massive but there's plenty of space to sit with a packed lunch.

First time I've been for about 12 years. It was great. Because it was cold and icy, there weren't as many people around, which made it easier to view the animals and also less queuing at the food court. We went back in the evening to see the illuminations, which, although busier, was still brilliant.

We went for the lights, it was an evening so didn't go in the zoo or see the animals, but the experience was amazing. The lights were beautiful, there was a food square and a place to do toasted marshmallows, they were the best I've ever eaten. Definitely worth a visit

Lovely big zoo with lots of different animals in themed zones. Lots of parking with ample number of disabled spaces and EV charging spaces (pod point, so not extortionate). Fully accessible with a few wooden bridges, which our mobility scooter managed, just very bumpy (there is an alternative route). We went round everything, which was about 6 miles, and spent 4.5 hrs, so well worth the money. It was December, so some animals weren’t too keen on being outside, but there were either glass sides to the indoor area so you could see in, or ones you could walk through. Thoroughly enjoyed our day, and can’t wait for the new areas to open in 2025.

Been a member for quite a while now. Very very nice zoo where you can stay whole day without bore. Personal favorite is the butterfly room. Most 59 species butterfly in the UK only lives max 3 weeks (vs those last months in tropical area). This room gives the opportunity to see lots of different type of butterflies. Recent digital events like sharks, local wildlife are quite good and informative as well. There are also experience like feeding penguin or butterfly you can book at reception (at a cost but not expensive). Overall a very good place to visit.

This has to be one of the biggest zoos I have been to! I even heard a lion roar for the first time. Pretty much ever enclosures we were able to see the animals, unlike some other places I have been to where most the animals are hidden. You can really tell the animals have the care and space they need!
