Part of a group that were booked into this hotel but I would NOT book this place again if I had a choice! The only good thing they got going for them is the night manager Pete (and other staff I've encountered), who quickly sorted out another room for me when I checked in at 3am (after 6hrs of travelling, and a performance at a festival), as my sink was blocked, shower water was scalding hot with no way to change the temperature and the door to the adjoining room was unlocked and ajar! All I wanted after a long cold day outdoors was a room with facilities that worked!!! I find the rooms outdated with carpets, wall paint and tiles that don't look clean. My new room was better, in what looks like a newer wing, however when I was using the toilet I saw hairs from a clipper or shaver scattered on the floor in front of me!!! My unused pillow also had a hair on it, which I was willing to let go, but after noticing the hairs on the bathroom floor the day after, I'm not so sure! The room lamp in the corner where I chose to work is flickering so I had to unplug it, and means I'm working in a darker corner than I would've liked. Not the worst thing, but with everything else that is wrong with this hotel, this is even more irritating than it should be! The TV won't let me screen mirror or cast via chrome cast, like we're not living in 2022 and this wouldn't be standard technology in hotels. Where is your maintenance team and quality assurance managers??? The friendly polite reception and bar staff is the only thing this place has going for itself. Fix up Malmaison. I definitely would not stay here again by choice. Hopefully someone else will have a better experience

Their cafe mal is the best Starbucks in the city! Extremely friendly and helpful staff who give 10% off for regular customers, making it really great value for money!! They do a stamp reward scheme too which is far better than Starbucks rewards! It’s kept spotlessly clean (I never see mugs on empty tables) and it’s just an oasis, right next to Piccadilly station! An absolutely fantastic place to chill ☕️

I’d decided to book afternoon tea at Malmaison for 6 people, as my friend had previously had afternoon tea at the Malmaison in new castle. I booked over the phone, but had to call to move my booking due to train strikes which the staff was understanding about. When we arrived we were directed to our table, and asked if we had any allergies. I informed the server that I was vegan, something I’d specified when I booked over the phone as I’m always overly curious. We were presented with an old paper drinks menu stapled together, and one of my friends realised their cup and cutlery was dirty. I was then informed that they would be unable to cater to me as they didn’t have the vegan option available, and that they weren’t aware that there was a vegan in the party. I was then accused of having made a mistake when I made the booking online - but I clarified that I’d done this over the phone and had made it very clear. Unfortunately we were unable to have our afternoon tea because they couldn’t feed me (though said they could cater to the non vegans). In the end we found somewhere else to eat (though it wasn’t the afternoon tea we had planned for). The experience was really disappointing, as I had been looking forward to the day, and upsetting that I’d been accused of being in the wrong. Not impressed at all.

Hotel is in a great location for Piccadilly train station. However, our room - and I would say the hotel in general - is looking tired and in need of renovation. We paid £170 for one night and the room had mould in the corner of the window and marks on other parts of the wall. Bath had no plug but reception did find a replacement quickly after the issue was raised. Reception staff were helpful and friendly. Would not stay here again for the reasons outlined.

Had a long and lazy lunch with my sister. We had the Prix fixe menu and it was all delicious and very good value for the quality. Staff were lovely and left us alone to catch up.

Perfect location . Very orignal and funky rooms ( we had a free upgrade). I m not sure if all the rooms are as clean or funky, but the one we had was top , and the service was excellent. I couldn't find anything negative on this one . Perfect location 1 min walk to piccadily Station I couldn't find anything wrong with this hotel on this occasion! 10/10

Beautiful hotel. We upgraded to a corner suite. Im glad we did. Lovely suite and very comfortable bed. Only down side is that we only stayed for one night. Excellent service and delicious breakfast. Will be staying again and highly recommended.

Great hotel in excellent location. Stayed in the junior suite which was a good size and very comfortable. Staff were all very polite and professional. Also has a good bar. Food in restaurant was ok. Will stay again next time in Manchester.

We had food in the cafe Mal thats attached to the hotel. Lovely food thats reasonably priced. Service was friendly and the staff member gave us suggestions on hikes to do in the local hills.

Rooms are fantastic, and you can't hear any outside noise. The cocktails in the bar are amazing. It's just unfortunate that they didn't seem to have enough staff on. Evening meal was nice. Unfortunately breakfast let it down, it took almost an hour to get and was over cooked when arrived. Made us late checking out. I must say its never been the case in the past though and on the whole I would recommend the hotel

Spa review only | Booked in for a couple of treatments short notice, the staff were really helpful and the treatments were amazing. Felt so relaxed afterwards and my skin looked great. There's a small relaxation room for after treatments and a sauna too.

Just returned home after a wonderful stay at Malmaison. Staff were super friendly and helpful, especially the guy on security and the member of staff taking care of the restaurant. Had a great birthday weekend here, enjoyed treatments from the spa, everyone was lovely and made us feel super relaxed. We loved sitting at the bar, enjoyed some of the bar snacks and there was a nice atmosphere. We later enjoyed a meal in the restaurant. The only downside was that the vegetarian main course options were a little underwhelming and the rooms could do with a bit of a refresh.

Really good hotel perfectly placed for arrival by train to Piccadilly station. Wonderful, helpful staff at reception, bar and breakfast. Special mention for Bailey welcoming guests to breakfast for exceptional service and charm.

Came to Bar Mal for a few drinks before dinner. The bar is very relaxing with comfy furniture and dim lighting. There is table service available. I wasn’t sat long before the barman took my order. I chose the ‘Pineapple smoke’ cocktail. It came quickly and was beautifully presented. My friend had a house red. The cocktail was delicious. I loved the flavours and the service was respectful and unobtrusive I’m defo going to go back and try a few more cocktails!

Thank you so much for the pleasant stay. I am a frequent travel to most cities in the uk and often stay at Malmasion Hotels. Some of the hotels are a little dated, but this oversight is made up by the staff that just find ways of going the little extra……..this is what makes a stay enjoyable.

I consider my first time in Manchester a fantastic experience, thanks to the Mailmaison Hotel team. They have been amazing with us. Good service, good food also if a bit expensive...

Faultless. I stayed here one night with work and it's the best hotel I've stayed in. The rooms are beautiful. There's everything I needed. The bed was the most comfortable hotel bed I've ever had (though I like a soft mattress, so others I was staying over with weren't keen). There were thin pillows, thick pillows, medium pillows to choose from, to get an optimum pillow height. Plenty of tea, coffee, hot choc and biscuits. Great set up for getting ready with a light up mirror and desk/dressing table with sockets for straighteners. Seems obvious, but so many places I stay dont even seem to consider the layout, with sockets nowhere near mirror etc. There was also an iron and ironing board. There were many lifts, so waiting for a lift was never an issue. Finally, the breakfast. Just fabulous. The service was amazing, the lady serving me was so happy, nothing was a bother. There wasn't loads of choice on the continental (couple of pastries and a couple of cereals, lots of fruit), but they did hot breakfast to order. Everything that came out looked beautiful, the Eggs Benedict in particular looked amazing (though I only had hash browns, they were very nice). I would always opt for this hotel chain in the future where work budget allows! And would treat myself to stays here with my partner in the future too. Highly recommend.

Positives: Bed was very comfortable, really good central location for Manchester. Nice cocktails in the bar downstairs. Negatives: The room was tired and grotty, especially the bathroom as another has said - the shower knob also fell off then we tried to turn it on! Cleaning could be improved, hair all over the floor and we found half a rotting lemon slice in the cupboard -yuck! Breakfast was okay, but definitely not worth the cost - you're better off finding a cafe or ordering in.

The reception staff could have been a bit more friendly and welcoming. Requests for hypo allergenic pillows, slippers etc required repeated calls before our requests were fulfilled. Rooms are very dark and not very good for applying makeup or drying hair. Bathroom floor was absolutely filthy too! The breakfast was OK but not worth the £16 charge as there was a limited cold selection. Hot food selection was much better though. Location is excellent to enjoy central Manchester

We decided to add an extra night in Manchester and booked Malmaison. Reception were very welcoming and we were given an upgrade on our room, which was not expected. The room was fantastic and so were the cocktails. We will be back. Thank-you so much.

The room was awful, really truly the worst I’ve stayed in for many a year. Battered, appalling decor and tiny. The room should have been refurbished 10 years ago and despite staying at The Mal in Manchester many times we were given the worst room ever which was a shame as we were there for 2 nights to celebrate a significant birthday and to see Peter Kay. Work was being carried out and as I prefer to use the stairs this involved stepping through piles of sawdust which remained on the stairs for the whole duration. Such a shame when it used to be a pleasure to stay in a hotel we enjoyed.

Okay place, but disappointed overall. The rooms are quite tired and the windows are bolted shut. AC not working and the room was too hot due to the warm weather. Being able to open a window to let in some fresh air is nice especially on a warm day, moreover when you have a good view of the outside activity. I Paid a premium to stay here for a better experience over the chain hotels, but there was little more on offer.

The atmosphere good, the music, great the bartender impeccable. Jack handled the night with style and grace. As long as this venue keeps hiring jack they’ll be doing the right thing. Fantastic service from a fantastic person.

Booked a standard double room last minute for a spontaneous weekend trip - price was decent given we checked in 30 minutes after booking. Staff very fast, it’s easy to check in and out. Didn’t check out the hotel bar, but had people in it when we arrived. Room was ok, except hot water took a long time to come on when we ran a bath. Good value for money and very close to Piccadilly station so useful for tourists.

Good location. Service polite and helpful. Room clean and nice. Breakfast good. Was just not quite as nice as I was expecting for the price we paid. It was also a little tired looking in places.

5* for the location, 3 for rooms and service. We wanted our room cleaned every day so declined the free drink offer for no room service and this was not done despite being our at 10 and back in the evening. Just not what was agreed. Rooms are pretty but slightly dated now and could do with a refresh but overall everything was clean and it was a pleasant enough stay.

A very nice boutique hotel. Ideal for the Arena if you are concert lovers. The only thing that we had a problem with, was the fact that the TV wouldn't work. The cold breakfast buffet was very minimal, but the hot breakfast was fine. I would recommend this Hotel.

The rooms were immaculate, cleaning and reception staff was incredibly polite and understanding. However, I witnessed the manager speaking to the cleaning staff very unprofessionally towards them. I also overheard her calling one of the staff “pathetic” from my room. Over than that great stay.

I came here for a spa day for my mum's birthday. We started off with vegetarian afternoon tea and I want to credit all the staff including the manager Ryan who really truly looked after us! We had a wonderful time and the food was really delicious and freshly prepared. Then we had treatments in the spa and were delighted with the care and comfort we recieved from Emily. Thank you to Mal for such a fantastic experience. Would recommend to others, and would come again!

Had a lovely one night stay at this hotel, a 5 minute walk from the train station. Reception staff were very friendly and let us check in a little early. Room was a decent size and very clean, minor issue of there being no plug near the bedside to charge my phone. Bed was comfortable and sheets were soft. Breakfast was nice and a decent range of choice. However it was the two ladies on the bar who really stood out, Gallia and Suzie were exceptional and dealt with a guest who had a little too much to drink in a very professional manner. Smiling all the way through it. The door man Ozzy was friendly and gave us some great tips about nightlife near the hotel. These three staff members really made our stay great. All of them are a credit to the hotel.

Great location and friendly staff. Rooms were comfortable with windows which could be opened even if only a little bit. Desk available in the room. Hairdryer, iron and ironing board also available. Breakfast delicious with cooked options available to order.

Loved the hotel. Booked for a gig with my best friend we wanted somewhere to stay that was within walking distance of the venue, and central for shopping. The Malmaison is good for both. Booked a twin room, and requested a room away from the street and the elevator which they confirmed both had been honoured. They looked after our bags when we went for lunch (again, confirming the room requests had been honoured). When we returned they thought we'd already checked in. We hadn't. They remembered our bags. Turns out they'd checked someone else into our booking with the same surname. They gave us a room very quickly, but I'm a little disappointed by this experience. I travel a lot and have never seen this happen elsewhere. The room was as we expected, the bathroom had a fabulous shower AND bath. We didn't stay for breakfast as that was overpriced and opted for a cafe not too far away in the northern quarter.

Staying in a hotel was a bit of a treat rather than driving home after a gig. I think when you book Malmaison you expect boutiquey hotel. I honestly feel we could have just booked the Premiere Inn across the road. The room was tiny and a bit of a depressing gunmetal grey. It just felt a bit tired and grubby around the edges, rust patches on the bath had been covered with stickers, and the single pillow was really uncomfortable. We booked a standard but it wasn't like any of the photos. The staff were friendly enough and drinks at the bar were good. Best thing about it for us was the location. I think if you are willing to pay a little more for the club and deluxe style rooms then it may be worth a try. We also made the mistake however of eating in the Brasserie and having one of the worst meals out we've had in a while. Sorry team, wouldn't stay or eat here again.

Beautiful room. Phone didn't work so had to go down for room service. Images showed two chairs but room only had one so partner had to sit on the bed the whole time. Food was nice (room service) but garlic bread missing from lasagne and chutney missing from cheese platter. Still enjoyed the stay though.

We didn't find this a friendly place and, given the price of a room there were details which had been overlooked. For example a chipped coffee mug, the TV had been securely tied to the wall so it was very difficult to angle it in order to watch it in bed, cold bathroom. Other aspects were pleasant - thick curtains which were needed as the windows were cold, unusual decor, room was clean. Good location for Picadilly Station.

  • 4/5 Ben T. 1 year ago on Google
Easy location to stay close to centre and the importantly the station. Big decent room, bed comfy however pillows flat and uncomfortable. The most annoying this is there are no plug sockets near the bed! None whatsoever so phone/watch etc has to be charged by the desk on the other side of the room!!

When I was looking at which hotel to book event space each month throughout 2022, I needed somewhere that reviewed well, had great boardroom facilities and provided excellent accomodation for guests of our events. The Malmaison in Manchester proved to be that hotel. I mainly dealt with the Meetings and Events Coordinator, Sarah. She was extremely helpful in getting the rooms and food sorted and always so friendly. Would definitely recommend to stay here :)

Wow I can't say enough about this great hotel. Warm and friendly very helpful staff amazing location. I was welcomed in by the amazing staff they were faultless nothing was too much . The reception staff are friendly and the breakfast crew was nice and friendly. The rooms were modern but also relaxing. Amazing breakfast 🍳

Sadly, got there late and left early so didn't get a chance to really enjoy it all. But lovely, spacious, clean room. Service was great, hot breakfast was cooked fresh with a great continental selection. 5 minute walk from Picadilly station. Would definitely stay again!

Good location, rooms are comfy and have what you'd expect - some slightly weird things, room 113 is next to an office/space for staff - so be prepared for people sitting on the floor chatting on mobiles pretty much outside your door from 06:30 in the morning... (At least that was my experience). The bar only serves 3/4 pints - but they'll charge you the price of a pint anywhere else. Good location and all in all a good hotel - just some things a little odd that took away from the experience for me.

Great place to stop when visiting manchestet ideal for the train station, easy walk to the arndale. We stopped there when going to see peter Gabriel at the AO arena. Great service and full breakfast, staff were very helpful and didnt rush us to leave on our last day. I will definitely book this hotel when next in Manchester
