Excellent location and bar area looked lovely but hotel was shocking. Everything just so neglected. Bed was clean and comfy but rest of the room needed serious work especially the bathroom. Glad I was only here one night and even then I considered going somewhere else. Staff are really friendly which is a bonus.

2 night stay. Let’s start with the positives - great, historic central location next to the Cathedral. The room was clean and the bed good. The negatives - there was no furniture in the room - no wardrobe or chest of drawers so we had to place our clothes / stuff on the floor. Unless you count the two hangers on the back of the door. The bathroom was vast but empty. The shower was like the ones at a leisure centre - push button to make it work for 30 seconds at a time - weak flow and no temperature controls! The website is v smart but nothing like the reality of the bedroom we stayed in.

Good location in the centre of Manchester, above a pub so don't expect it to be quiet but the pub seems to close at normal times so it shouldn't cause too many problems. Rooms are quirky, since are really small and others are a okay size. Could do with some tidying up from the decor side as there is paint hanging off in some places. Breakfast was buffet and was fine as expected.

The biggest room in the hotel was terrible. The cleanliness of the room was below zero. Old terrible carpet. The shower was so small I could barely turn in it. The windows had dust and spider webs. Decor was terrible. Inside of the hotel is old and ugly. Needs maintenance and needs older ladies that know what cleaning means. The young ladies cleaning had probably never cleaned their own room!

I’ve stayed at this hotel many of times , however on my last visit, I left my watch which was a gift from my partner. I called they told me to describe the watch (for security reasons) and then told me they have got it, no rush for collection it will be kept safe. Went to collect the watch to be told it’s lost , and they are launching an investigation. I’m am disgusted with the lack of communication from them to keep me updated. And also disgusted it’s taken a week for them to check cctv. Will not be staying again

If you can nab yourself a Cathedral side room, it's one of the best-value views you'll get. Rooms are a little scruffy, but clean. They make a big deal of the fact that as a guest you get 20% off food and drink downstairs at the restaurant. However, when I went downstairs immediately after checking in at 7:40pm having been told the restaurant closed at 9pm by the hotel reception (it's actually 8pm), I was told by an incredibly surly bar tender quite flatly that the kitchen was closed. When I questioned whether it closed at 8 or 7:40pm, she then moodily went and asked someone else, came back and said I could order and demanded a table number (I'd literally come straight from the reception to the bar to ask about the kitchen) all the whilst whilst scowling. She was so rude to me I just left. Stayed the night, but ate somewhere else.

Room was filthy!! Walls NEED painting as there was some sort of wet stain on the wall… kettle looked liked it’s never been cleaned before.. en-suite bath tub was dirty. They say you get your monies worth but wouldn’t stay here again even for free. Staff were polite, location is great but the rooms are awful!

Beautiful dining and bar area. The rest of the place is seriously lacking! We stayed for just one night and that was enough. Room wasn't really clean, very dated and most things were just bodge job fixes. If you ask me the management team need to address the quality of their rooms. The iron board didn't even stand up straight! If your booking for a nice get away I would give it a miss. If you just need a bed for the night then maybe consider this.

Booked this hotel last minute for a really good price, and when we arrived it turned out that our room had been upgraded from a standard double to one of their studio rooms. It was like a whole apartment, huge and beautiful! The staff members were also really friendly and resourceful. Can’t fault it - great central location, great price and great staff!

Would not recommend, the room was very loud. The windows couldn’t open all the way, when you use water in the bathroom it makes a LOUD noise. The staff were very friendly and the location was nice, for drinks or food I would recommend.

Amazing location, right in the centre of the city for a great price. Yes, it can be noisy but you are in the city center, what do you expect? I got there using the Victoria station, but right across it is The Arndale... It is also close to Oxford Street station. I guess renovations are ongoing, they had a regular Triton shower in the bathroom. Yes, there is no fridge or wardrobe, but it is a budget hotel.. Thin walls and creaky floor boards, but I understand that is expected with old houses... Perfect for a night stay

This is the first time I've ever asked for my money back at a hotel. The shower didn't work at all, room was pretty poor but it was the shower that made staying impossible! We could not have a wash! While the manager hid reception gave us an interesting interpretation of the law, which was incorrect and plain rude. Finally the manager agreed we could have a refund and we had to find somewhere else to stay. Really disappointing and totally unlike our last stay at what was once a great hotel.

If you're looking for a cheap hotel to rest your head after a night out and not fussed about showering, creature comforts or small details then this is great. Great price, the staff are lovely, great food, great location but the hotel itself is less than par! The communal showers were covered in pink mould and damp, they were so bad I didn't bother showering as I didn't want to touch anything! See photos! The room toilets and communal toilets have no sanitary bins (we were a group of 6 girls in the big apartment room and 2 girls were in need of one) No lift and the stairs are narrow. The apartment room is spacious and perfect for a group but the bathroom is between the living room and bedroom so there's zero privacy, the screws in the metal runner between the lino and carpet were poking out and we hurt ourselves a few times walking over them. It wasn't the cleanest but the bits that mattered (beds) were fine and very comfortable (even the sofa beds were comfy) We did have an amazing weekend and as I say the staff and food were incredible (the staff were a right laugh and so friendly) but due to the cleanliness we will not be back.

Is a wonderfull Hotel. Very near to center city. The bedrooms is very big and cleans. I don't understan why they ask me any Credit card if the reservations is payed before on line. The second day the hotel tried to charge 1£ on my account. Be very careful with this.

One of the worst hotels I’ve ever been in. It does not match any of the hotel booking site pics anywhere. Single glazed windows (because of age of building) I got informed. Yet I’ve been in other period hotel buildings who couldn’t change windows yet they installed another window inside which planning allow) If you want to experience staying in the dark ages of a cathedral hotel this is a authentic place - old decor, cold, single glass window, dated, with no mod cons at all. Don’t even think the radiators work. Staff on reception were friendly, hotel supervisors / management were literally children given important roles with attitude problems with no experience.

I booked this hotel as we were going to a classical concert at the cathedral for my husbands 60th birthday. It was my present to him and we were on a budget so didn't expect much as we had read the reviews. It was very last minute so we didn't have much choice as to where we could stay really. I rang a few days before to ask if the staff could make the room special as a surprise. They said they would put balloons and banners in the room, along with a card. Sadly they never did anything and when I went to reception, the lady checked the book and saw that it was in the notes, she said she had no idea why they hadn't done it. There are no wardrobes or even a designated place to hang clothes, coat hangers on the back of the door isn't really acceptable bearing in mind there was room to put something in place. The bathroom was really big but the only space used was at the back where the wash basin, toilet and smal shower is. This took up about 1/4 of the space and entire front of it was empty. I paid extra for the breakfast which we always enjoy when we stay somewhere. Sadly this was very disappointing. We were told (by a really grumpy waiter) when we went down for it, that the choice is a small breakfast bap or a small English breakfast with one of everything, he admitted that it is very small so we opted for the bap which was mediocre at best, it was very small, and very dry. The window looked out onto the side of a grotty building, as opposed to the Cathedral view which it said we would be getting. The fact is, you get what you pay for, it was relatively cheap considering it's fabulous location and we were only staying one night and didn't use the shower or put the tv on as we were out and about. We knew what to expect as we read the reviews so we weren't surprised. The reception staff were great and as long as you go there armed with what to expect then it's worth staying for 1 night as long as you don't spend any proper time in it.

Staff amazing, location amazing. The rooms are good and the beds are comfy. However, there were 6 of us in our room. And we only had one fork between us, then we kept catching our feet on the divider between the carpet and the vinyl flooring. I mean, we could have sued, but we're not going to do that. Because we had the best night out in manchester, the staff were absolutely amazing and helped get us a Jug for the bath, as there are no showers. Unless you go upstairs to the communal showers which don't stay one temperature and are quite mouldy. However when you really need a shower you just use it. I don't think I'd stay here again. But I did make some amazing memories here with the girls. Also the breakfast is pretty good. Be warned , there are a lot of stairs total and no help available for heavy baggage.

Not so much tired....more asleep really. Small room in a remote part of the hotel. Hasn't been updated like the rest of the rooms. Would have liked to be offered a better room. Windows do not fit so very very noisy. If you are smashed it wouldn't be so bad but was directly above the courtyard where everyone was drinking till quite late.

Make sure to use HoteITully.ᴄᴏm when booking your resort. They compare hundreds of booking websites and normally will have prices much cheaper compared to others! Thank me later on! This hotel is one of the most well known in this area. I have been staying here for a long time. If you stay for a few nights you won't regret it. Had a fantastic stay. So cheap. Bang opposite the cathedral which was important to me. Nice staff. Great food and drinks. Nice decor. Fully recommend it if your needing somewhere central.

My husband and I popped in for some lunch today. The food was beautiful and the staff were lovely and polite. After we had finished eating we took our drinks outside. The cathedral at the back is beautiful. We'll definitely be back.

5/5 this is a “hidden” gem for a night away… probably stayed in 30 plus places in Manchester over the years but this takes some beating for the price (£40 including breakfast if booked direct). Great location, discount on parking nearby. The place has been refurbished fairly recently, although it is slightly tired in places. The staff (everyone we were in contact with) were fantastic… all seemed to enjoy working at The Mitre, chatty bit of banter and a credit to the place. Overall if you want a good location, good price then don’t look else where… book! If you are looking for all the trimmings then maybe pay a daft price and book elsewhere … Won’t be looking elsewhere again … Mitre everyone

It's a lovely hotel/pub we had a corner room which was large well decorated clean and comfy. Shower a tad small but u dont stay in the bathroom do you Staff was lovely had good conversation with them and they even gave me a towel to pat myself down on check in as I was wet due to the rain. Purely because of the parking I may not return even though we did park 5 mins down the road in the ncp I worried about the car as I do like on site parking however if I travel another way I will stay here and recomend to others

Nice staff, good location. Room’s floor had noticeable dents under the carpet, no shower gel etc but did have a shower/bath. Few coat hangers on the back of the door, for £175 for a single bed a lot of money for very little.

Staff provided great service even during busy hours! Room was great value for the price and the location and proximity to the AO Arena is excellent. The food is also lovely, well worth a stay if you need a hotel for a gig!

Location was excellent, right next to manchester cathedral and in city center that is why extremely noisy. So dont expect any quite space in this hotel The worst experience was with the staff. I went for a business visit, which was already paid, they had contact details of my travel agent who made the booking with their email address n everything, still they collected my personal card details, and gave a nonsense justification that it is only a formality and it wont be charged etc. I repeatedly asked them to delete my card details and if they want to charge anything, charge the business card, and their reception team agreed happily to my face. To my extreme surprise, as soon as I checked out, they charged me the full price, which was already paid, through my personal credit card!!! I mean the audacity was astonishing for me. I had to make some angry phone calls and emails, only then I was refunded, they did not even bother to contact the travel agent whose details they already had. My advice would be NEVER give them any other card details if your visit is already paid, they lie to your face and later on apologise without admiting their unethical behavior. I dont think i will stay here again!

For £20 each for a room it’s brilliant. Shared bathroom could be easily improved by having hand soap and hand towels. Our room and beds were clean. Staff really lovely, lady on reception afternoon 18/08 very friendly and welcoming. Such a central location we had a great time and the bar downstairs on the 18/08/23 was a great atmosphere the DJ was very good. Breakfast included was perfect. Thank you all

We booked as a family of 5 but was split between 2 rooms - which was fine. Double and single & single with cot bed. We arrived late evening after travelling all day and discovered no cot bed for baby. Had to go back to reception. Lady brought one to the room only to discover is was broken. Finally got a safe and working cot bed but staff didn’t leave any linen. Breakfast was very tasty but maybe staff should be checking booking details a little better in preparation for guests especially travelling with small children

All a person really needs out of quick one night accomodation is hot water, quiet and WiFi, and we didn't have any of that. The room we booked (23) was at the far side and for some reason we had no access to WiFi and the receptionist didn't know the password for some other WiFi that appeared to be available. When we woke up in the morning, there was no hot water for a shower; absolutely unacceptable. Lastly, you're above and next to pubs but no double glazing for silence. Honestly, none of this was worth it!

No elevator, as a 64 year old it’s not that easy to lift a 20kg suitcase and no staff member showed any signs of willingness to help. + Mold in the room and bathroom, windows couldn’t be opened so I had an allergy attack as I am allergic to aspergillosis + Breakfast was disgusting

The hotel is cheap and cheerful, you get what you pay for. The staff are amazing, Remi was fab at breakfast and the staff work hard. Dont get me wrong the rooms are bizarre, wonky, dated and like sleeping on a fairground ride sleeping on sloped floors. The showers are tempramental. Our TV didn't work. But we weren't there to enjoy a luxury hotel, but for a Hen Do the location was excellent. The food was really good. The cocktails were even better. I would stay here again as it was what I expected for the price paid.

5 out of 5 for great central location. It goes downhill after that. First it was hard to find Reception as at ground level is a pub and restaurant. The Receptionist was very nice. The decor is appalling and needs serious updating and changing. The carpet is manky. There is peeling paint everywhere. Very steep stairs to the bedrooms. The bedroom is not bad and I slept very well. There is a kettle with tea/coffee making facilities. No hairdryer but Reception said they could give you one. The bathroom fine but the taps in sink and shower in a timer. The hotel is in an old building so is a bit higgeldy piggery which is fine but money needs to be spent on the common areas. Breakfast either cooked or cereal. They even ran out of bread and jams. A good manager is needed to whip the place into shape. On saying that, the location is superb and I would return because of that. Also my room looked out onto the magnificent Cathedral.

  • 3/5 Jonathan H. 5 months ago on Google
You definitely can’t fault the cost of the hotel the breakfast was probably worth the cost alone . The rooms were very basic , but what do you expect for the cost. The hotel could do with new carpets and a good paint . The person with the blue hair behind the bar could do with learning some people skills , he asked my son for ID even before asking what he wanted to drink , he might have wanted a coke, and then tell me I was a **** for telling him ,it would be nice if we where asked what drinks we would like before asking for ID . If he was in my own town I would have dragged him over the bar . Apart from that the stay was ok for the cost .

The service in the hotel was endeavoured, but partly not satisfying. Our room was ok, nicely furnished, but the bathroom was just awful. The shower was a science in itself, after showering everything was floating all around, there were no shelves and no hooks to hang anything. At least we had plenty of towels and in the room our own tea corner. We had “a view” to the backyard which was awful and extremely loud during nights. The breakfast was creepy. Everything was constantly empty, the tables were dirty and it smelled awful. No one came by to clear dirty dishes. I think my sensitive German soul suffered some damage here. I am sorry to have to say this.

I booked this last minute via Hopper as it's close to the AO arena. I was a bit dubious after reading the reviews. However I had no issues! Room was fairly clean apart from the odd cobweb and the remote was dusty. Bed was comfortable and has a great view of the cathedral. The hotel itself is a little dated but the room was modern! There's a tea/coffee making facility if you need it and a place to hang your clothes. It was loud until about 12am but it's a pub on a Saturday night (was t bothered) - I would have gone down to the bar after my concert but I was so tired! Sounded like fun though. Location is very central, close to the AO arena, northern quarter and next to the shopping district.

  • 2/5 Tom F. 6 months ago on Google
I booked this due to being so close to the Arena, this is one of 2 positives about this “Hotel”! The room is beyond dated, holes in walls, horrendous decor and don’t get me started on the curtain poles 🤣 The remote on arrival is sat next to the please clean sign…….the irony of this as the remote is filthy! The carpet (in the room) whilst clean is very poorly fitted. The bed clothes are the cleanest thing in here HOWEVER, the duvet is badly stained and you can see it through the covers 🤮 The bed and pillows were very comfortable. The smell when you open the bedroom door into the hall is like nothing I ever experienced before, like wet, dirty carpet. The corridors are vile! Carpet is disgusting, stairs are so steep ( not advised before arrival ) this is not suitable for anyone with mobility issues!! The window rattled so much I had to wedge something in it so I could sleep. Breakfast was acceptable thankfully. Reception didn’t let us have the key before 2 as the room was being cleaned………this room is not clean! To the point someone else’s razor is still lying on the bathroom floor!!

  • 4/5 Ashley P. 1 year ago on Google
The rooms were freshly painted but defo not the Ritz! Clean and tidy lovely staff. There was flaking paint, the finish is not great but central, clean and offers 20% off on food and drink when you show your room key downstairs in the bar! Over all a good shout if you want central and easy from the station with free city bus.

  • 4/5 Joe Q. 2 years ago on Google
Friendly staff and a quaint place. Breakfast was very nice and well worth the price, with the discount, if your stopping here. For the price you really can't grumble as your dead centre and only a minute walk from the town. Room was clean and compact. Plenty of hanging space and a TV. My only issue was that the shower was terrible! It needed replacing as the pressure was non existent. I did mention this to the staff after the 1st night and they said it would be looked at, it wasn't unfortunately and it wasn't until the next day I noticed, I was leaving early and getting back late. I mentioned this on check out and they did offer me a free breakfast, I unfortunately had to leave so I couldn't have it. The staff were very apologetic and did offer me something for free. Hence the only loosing 1 star 🌟

Great location in centre of the city. Good choice of rooms some higher spec than others. It's a listed building so some stairs to go up and down, but adds the character. Some renovation on one stairwell was underway on our stay. But it's good to see this to know they are keeping the building updated and to a good standard. Reception is accessible round the back door and up some stairs. Staff are friendly and very helpful. Prices for rooms are good and a nice change from basic Travel lodges. Definitely worth considering if you want to stay over in the city centre. Breakfast was good to and a ample size and good selection. I would recommend it.

Starting positive - the location of the hotel is literally perfect, right next to the arndale centre and lots of bars, the pub underneath the hotel was lovely (and when you stay, they offer a discount on food and drink), and the staff were so nice. unfortunately, the room itself was very basic, and the bathroom was awful - dingy, but worse than that the shower was freezing cold with terrible pressure. We only stayed for a couple of nights so just sucked it up, but if you were staying any longer this would be a big issue.

We had a room booked for myself and my partner. On arrival we were upgraded to a studio room with 3 beds, a living room/kitchen and en suite. The room was very spacious and looked pleasing, with a tv in both the bedroom and living room. I liked the preserved Tudor style aesthetic the building and bedroom had. My only issue was that this hotel room was in the loft so the bedroom and bathroom area was very low down. Being 6ft4, this was a bit of a struggle constantly having to bend and mind my head; I can't complain as I was upgraded for free! The staff were extremely friendly which really added to a great experience. I look forward to visiting again!

I can't comment on a stay at the hotel, as they have cancelled the room without given adequate reasons or communication. (they had valid payment details) . One can only assume, they want to relist the room at increased rate due to the busy weekend.

We had a beautiful room overlooking the Cathedral and it was spotlessly clean. The receptionist was very pleasant and explained everything we needed and although it was extremely busy she remained very calm. We also ate in the restaurant which was lovely. The discount was very good. Breakfast was lovely and staff extremely pleasant and helpful. Only the stairs were a little issue.

Basic enough hotel if you need someone where to just drop your things. You get 20% off in the bar and restaurant if you show your key, although I didn't try the food it did look pretty good. Despite the location it is actually pretty quiet, although I paid extra to stay on the cathedral side. Beds are a bit short (and I'm not even that tall) but other than that it was grand.

Great place, lovely building, old Manchester. It can take a virtual lifetime before one appreciates what's always been in front of you. I live in the Midlands but I'm a Lancashire lad, every time I come home I pay the Mitre a visit. I didn't know that rooms were available but apparently there are alternatives, 3 stars. Great pub, nice staff excellent location.

  • 1/5 Robert P. 1 year ago on Google
It is not rocket science to have a good hotel; good beds, good towels, good shower and a decent staff. Basically, that’s it. Then you get all the rest: building, location, food, extra’s, etc. Unfortunately for The Mitre they have only one thing going for them, and that’s the location. The rest is average or downright poor. My bed is a sort of wooden scaffold (with a decent mattress), in the filthy looking ‘bathroom’ nowhere to hang your towel and no basin to speak of. The food is ok. The salads I had were great, but the pancakes are factory made and just awful. The staff is really helpful, but underpaid and overworked. The rooms are tarted up with colourful cushions and fancy wallpaper, but that does not cover the fact that this building needs some serious TLC. For me this is a typical money making machine of someone who doesn’t really care about the guests or hospitality. The location and the historical building lure the guests in and after that it’s just cashing in. Very big potential, very ill used.

Friendly & beautiful staff & managers quick service which is surprising for the town centre. It was late on a Saturday night stayed until closing met some nice ladies & had plesant conversations. It is quite a big place inside plenty of room to sit down prices, were reasonable for the town centre.

The staff here are absolutely amazing. After a bit of an incident with the friends I was meant to be staying with they helped me get my things out even with a few complications on my end, lovely to me even when I was upset, and checked to make sure I had somewhere to stay. I can’t thank them enough for their help and support. They made a stressful night easy. I can’t remember his name but thank you to the man who was on the desk on the 6th may on the evening. After leaving some items in the room they’ve kept them in a bag for me to go and collect. I just can’t thank them enough. The rooms were a decent size and the beds were comfy. A really good location as you can walk to many bars/shops basically anything you’re in Manchester for. Just a really good base for the time you’re there. The bar downstairs seemed really popular and the food did smell nice although i didn’t have any. Can’t thank The Mitre staff enough.

  • 3/5 Tobi W. 1 year ago on Google
The woman at the desk and the staff downstairs were great I loved the food and the discount! I can't fault the bed it was comfy enough for me, and I loved the location although the room is small it does what we needed it too! My concerns however on arrival were a few holes in the wall and door, the bathroom toilet was so small we could barely fit in, also the noise it makes whenever you use it is Insane I got woken up a a few times and anyone who uses there's across the hall not great

A lovely hotel in a central location near Piccadilly & Victoria stations, sitting in the shadow of the beautiful cathedral. The room was comfortable and clean, with all the amenities you would expect - towels, soap, drink options & kettle, TV etc. It is a very old building, & this shows in the architecture, leaning walls and period features, but it adds to the charm of the place. The best thing by far about the hotel is the staff. Every member I spoke to, either in person or via email, were helpful, friendly and accommodating. I requested a cathedral view room (just because why not if it was available!), and they instantly confirmed this & reserved a room for me, a long time in advance of my stay. They allowed late check-in without hesitation, compensation or complaint, & called to check my time of check-in as they remembered it would be late. When I did arrive Darius was as lovely in person as Jessica & Saffy via email, chatting with me whilst I checked in, sharing sympathy with my holiday disaster (I'll SEE AAF one day 😂), and being an all-round pleasure to meet after a stressful journey. There are a few issues with the building because of the age, such as the plumbing system in the bedroom making super loud groaning noises every time you use the facilities, but really it's the people who make a place great, not the building, and for that I would recommend this hotel to anyone. If you're fussy about perfect conditions then yes it's not the Ritz, but personally I couldn't care less about that. They also offer a loyalty card for a free night after 6 stays, so every time I come to Manchester I'm going to try get another stamp on that card 🖤

Remember to use ʜᴏᴛᴇʟʙoʟʟʏ.ᴄᴏm when booking a room. They compare hundreds of booking websites and typically will have prices a lot cheaper compared to others! You're welcome :)! This place is one of the highest rated in this area. I've been staying here for a very long time. If you stay for a few nights you for sure won't regret it. We stayed Sunday night, as we where off to a gigg at 02 arena, great location for everything in the city centre, room was clean, bed comfy, it's an old building with a different character to a travel lodge, yes the floors creaky lol, windows could do with an update but overall staff where friendly, will book again.

The location is perfect for city centre. The room it self was ok very room run down building and needs alot of work doing interior wise and no lifts To go up 25+ stairs. The room it self was very basic. Single bedroom with small tv and hot kettle. The room lack present and was out dated. The bathroom door wouldn't close snd hear noise coming. No curtains in the room so very bright. It wasnt the worst stay nor great stay but ok. Considering the price it wasn't bad but you are paying for location not the room quality . I would find a better room for the same price. The staff were helpfully and friendly.

My husband and I came here for breakfast as it was near our hotel and it looked inviting from outside. The building outside is stunning. A beautifully historic piece of English history. The interior is modern, clean and comfy. The lady serving us was polite and friendly. The food was excellent. A good English breakfast and smashed avocado and egg between us both was very well received.

Location and staff are fantastic, particularly Kristen? On reception. It's let down a little by incredibly loud plumbing and thin walls which meant I could hear every toilet flush, shower and conversation in the place. Rooms could do with a little more furniture but adequate for one night. I would stay again, just with ear plugs.

We didn't stay in the hotel, we spent the day with friends and had a meal and drinks. The bar staff were all fantastic and friendly. I have to give an extra thank you to Aussie Kate who remembered our drinks after just the first round even though some of my friends changed drinks. Very professional and extremely friendly. Thank you for a fantastic time.

Nice pub located in one of my favourite parts of Manchester. Very well priced in comparison to other pubs within the vacinity. Friendly staff, and great service. Madri on draft is highly recommended. Excellent pint. Well worth a visit.

The pub is a very interesting and historic building, it's very popular with the drinking crowd. There are rooms of varying standards and price. Be warned there are alot of stairs to get to you rooms, especially on the top floor. We had to share a choice of two bathrooms, one the toilet didn't flush properly and was pretty dingy. The other bathroom was OK. The single beds were comfy, we couldn't shut our attic window as it was too high. So noise outside was at a premium until about 2.00am. With doors banging as guests came in. The hot water tap was intermittent and the bed side draw was hanging off. A coke can was behind the mirror. But it was reasonable price for a one night emergency. The breakfast was good and most staff friendly.

This hotel is definitely a one night stay and no more. Because of the lack of cleanliness I would not stay again. The pillow was stained, the curtains had a funny stain on them, the shower had mould and when used it made a roaring sound as did the toilet and the sink. The shower was also broken and water leaked out of the pipe instead of just the shower head. The walls are definitely paper thin, so much so I was awoken at 1 am to the old couple next door having a late night bone which kept me awake for 40 minutes. I could literally hear them wet kissing and the headboard smacking my wall and making it shake. Definitely a no for a return, especially as it is so expensive for what it is. I will stick to a premier inn for my next Manchester stay. Only upside for me was the location.

The staff were very friendly and the location was great. The stairs are very very steep and uneven no handrails in some staircases. The bedroom was clean and bed was comfortable but the room was very poor damp on walls, holes on walls and skirting boards were coming off of the walls. No wardrobe or drawers in room belongings had to be placed on floor, kettle was placed on a shelf that was uneven so safe way to use was to place on floor when using. The toilet ran the whole night. The shower was very poor couldn't wash hair as had to keep pressing button and water was cold.
