This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. Firstly, the rooms look nothing like the photos used in the advertisement. I assumed as we were paying a high price per night to stay, that the rooms would at least be as shown on the photos... or better.... they were not! The toilet seat was broken off, the shower didn't work, the bed was not fit for humans to sleep on, there were no windows in the room, the room smelt damp, the room was dirty and very dusty, there was an old fan in the corner that was loud. The walls are paper thin, so it was very loud and could here what sounded like someone making 7 nights in Manchester next door... As we arrived at 10pm the staff had no option to resolve all the problems. Everything in the room was over 40 years old I am sure! And then to top it off, the fire alarm went off three times starting at 3am and finishing at 4:30am... a lovely sound... I wouldn't recommend this to my worse enemy. I have completed 2 tours of Afghanistan and this is still the worst place I have been made to sleep. Do yourself a favour and try sleeping rough on the streets before trying this hotel!

Lovely mirrors, great natural light, moderately clean, spacious bathroom, extra blanket & extra pillows provided, brilliant location, lovely and welcoming staff. The room was absolutely freezing in the middle of autumn - no heating whatsoever (windows were also left open upon arrival), bedside table lamp broken (lampshade crooked), room design (decor outdated, ie. curtains, carpets, uneven flooring, late check-in/early checkout with additional pay, TV had no sound!! And bad placement, broken shower gel, thin walls - could hear everything outside the room, reception roof leaking with puddles of water on floor due to heavy weather conditions. Online images of hotel rooms can be misleading in its appearance.

Cheap central hotel near rail station. Basic facilities and deco. The room was warm and bed was reasonably comfortable. The water pressure was high and water hot. The service was prompt even at 9.30pm. Staff were cleaning the hotel at 5.45am so good sign. Only negative was that it was noisy with other guests ... sound installation is relatively poor.

Stayed at the hotel 3 times in the past and had a good close relationship with the people running the hotel, we went to the door to get a booking on a night that we didn’t have a booking, wasn’t told it was full which is fine but they then told the PAYING guests of the hotel also waiting at the door to wait to get into the hotel that they weren’t allowed in til we left which is disgraceful. We were just trying to see if the hotel would let us stay 😳 it’s not exactly very fair or acceptable for a hotel to be so discriminatory and unfair to it’s paying customers and people that were trying to paying to a customer. It’s a very weird change from being kind customer service to hostile and unkind. Will try to avoid in the future

We stayed for several nights on out trip to Manchester. The location is unbeatable, especially for the price - right in the middle of downtown. The room itself was a little dated, and the beds were not especially comfortable. Otherwise it was very clean, and had a great deep tub. I don't know if we will go back to Manchester, but we will certainly stay here again if we do.

The location of the hotel is superb. About a 5 minute walk from Piccadilly train station, and about a 2 minute walk into the city centre. However, the room information has not been updated since COVID, and some of the facilities were lacking. I had paid for an executive double room, but was left a bit disappointed. The shower room was clean and spacious, but the bedroom itself looked a bit dated. The carpet was damaged near the radiator and looked in need of a good clean in other places. The wardrobe would have been spacious if it wasn't used to house the ironing board, the iron, a fan, a couple of blankets, kettle and various drink options. Other items of furniture were in need of an upgrade.

Great location for us as we wanted to explore the Northern Quarter. We were pleasantly surprised for the price. The hotel is on the main street, just a doorway which leads to a reception desk, there was also a bar in this area There is a lift, which isn't always the case in these older buildings We were on the first floor and our room looked inwards, which meant there was no street noise The room had everything you might need Inc coffee and tea making facilities Our bathroom had a bath which is always a bonus The bed was comfortable and we had a really enjoyable stay... Staff were extra lovely

Rooms were serviceable. Not very big, but nice for the price. Pretty clean. Staff was kind. Experienced no waiting times. Location is very good. Was able to go through my itenerary quite fast. Could reach most places by foot (<15 min). We did have a room where the window faces a pub, that got quite active during post soccer match celebrations.

When we arrived we were offered a free upgrade to an executive room. Upon entering the lift we smelt a mixture of tobacco and sweat smell and it continued through the corridors too Room 202 was ok fairly appointed and reasonably clean, except the fridge which my wife cleaned and then because we were hot we opened the curtains. The exterior of the windows and interior of top ones were FILTHY and the fan provided was filthy too not to mention the broken window pane covered by plastic film. The Bathroom was 10☆ with an amazing rainfall shower (best in ANY hotel I've stayed in) and amazing water pressure too. ALL in all Excellent location Lovely staff Let down on the cleanliness

Booked a windowless room, which served the purpose. If you're just looking for a bed, it was comfortable. The room is just in bang centre of the city, so it was basically a bed in the city centre, with good luggage storage facility before and after check in and check out. The exhaust was not working in the room or bathroom, and on enquiring about it, the staff just said 'yes it isn't ON in your room'. The staff were very good and friendly other than this. Flush needed 2-3 tries each time to work.

Budget hotel, it's what you expect, but the staff are really lovely, they go out of their way to chat and be helpful, which makes all the difference. I'd stay here again. No real noise from the street as I was at the back of the hotel Tea/coffee making facilities in room and a TV. Bed sheets clean.

If you like rooms with literally no windows, no Aircon and carpet moths but a great location, then this is the place for you. I left 5 mins after arrival but hey I'm picky. Service gets 2 as first person that checked me in was friendly, second person who checked me out was not, so 2.5 would be the best option.

The staff were incredibly friendly, I was allowed to take my bike inside for safe-keeping and even though I arrived pretty late, the receptionist was very kind and the check-in went smoothly. The hotel itself has some years on its back and the walls are a bit thin, but the room and bathroom were very clean and comfortable.

Negatives: Biggest let down was having virtually no WiFi in our room. We resorted to going to the forea to access WiFi. Positives: Very comfortable firm beds; shower and bath easy to use; location was great

Absolutely dire, gum on the floor IN THE ROOMS. You want a bed? There's a better one. Room 106 was ridiculously stuffy and hot throughout the night and morning, no ventilation beyond 3 inches of window. The corridors were smelly. Nice people working here of course, very helpful, and as mentioned previously the water pressure is brilliant- makes me wonder if they could save a bit on heating and maybe get some new carpets? Anyway, first time to Manchester, brilliant city but properly cruddy hotel.

A bit of a mixed experience really. While the price was great and I could praise the staff who worked here to the nines, the room itself was a little on the uncomfortable side, the bed a bit lumpy and the windows being right next to a noisy ventilator fan didnt help much. I would say this place is good in a pinch or for last minute bookings but unless the beds got an overhaul, I would have to think on if I wanted to return here.

Lovely hotel! The room: nice and spacious room, the bed was comfortable and I enjoyed my stay! The shower was beyond perfect, the pressure and temperature control was beyond expectations! The atmosphere: corredors were spotless and smelt fresh as you'd expect for a mini vacation. The hotel lobby is beautiful, staff are welcoming, the receptionist on arrival allowed us to check-in early which was perfect for our needs! She moved us to a ready to go room [116]. Breakfast: perfect dining experience, most hotels are self serve but we had our food brought to us; we had a English breakfast and may I say it was delicious! Location: perfectly central to the city centre, ease of access to transport. Overall experience: satisfied with our stay, couldn't fault anything. Will we come again?, a million times yes!

The location is great - some aspects of the hotel not so much. My room was certainly large and the bed was comfortable. Unfortunately I couldn't find a way to completely close the window. And as the hotel is in the centre of the city that meant I had to endure some street noise. You need to use a short flight of stairs to enter the hotel if you are fully able, young and fit you will have no problems getting your luggage in. If not, then you might have problems.

Location is the main advantage of this establishment. It is located in the very centre of Manchester. I like the location and the affordability. Both were great. The room was reasonably big, quiet as it has room into inner space over the roof of the lobby and clean. The staff was friendly. I don't fancy AC but the room was extremely hot. Like a furnace. The moment I stepped out of the shower I was dripping sweat again. The glass roof over the lobby to which we had window turned out to be extremely noisy when raining. It was like a drum. Very big drum.

Only the name has a garden and its located in a very grimy location. Staff was very unprofessional and rude. The room was in the basement and very very small. Cannot even open the windows because outside is very grimy and dusty. Had an English breakfast and food was okay but the serving person is very rude and disconnected. No value for money and would not recommend the place at all.

  • 4/5 James S. 5 months ago on Google
Within walking distance of most of what you want to see in Manchester. Showing its age a bit, but the rooms are clean and tidy, the staff are all friendly, professional and attentive. The breakfast is a bit on the sparse size, but cooked well and quickly delivered.

Great location. Rooms are OK but need more sockets so you can charge your phone or boil the kettle whilst having the fan on. Fan is essential with no windows.

Staff were lovely. That was the only plus. Our room had no window, was stiflingly hot and smelt, the bed was bordering on sleepable and THE NOISE!!! MY GOD THE NOISE!!! At 7oclock in the morning doors started slamming, and you can hear everything in the rooms! Even people on other rooms around the corner. Definitely won’t be staying here again, despite the staff being so nice.

I stayed here for the easter bank holiday weekend and had a great experience! Staff were all lovely, location was fab and it was very affordable! I would recommend for guests wanting to stay here booking directly with the hotel on their website instead of travel sites as they have better offers and it was a lot cheaper. I was lucky enough to get my stay discounted with 'have the third night on us'. I had the standard double room and the bed was massive! Big window and a decent bathroom.

Staff were friendly, the room was clean and comfortable, and the location and price were great. I had my apprehensions about the place given the other reviews, but it was actually a great stay. Free WiFi was good as well - I'm using it to write this review!

Booked on a Wowcher deal. Fab location, really central- but room quiet. Comfy bed, lovely warm shower. Staff at both reception and restaurant really nice, friendly and helpful. Breakfast- good selection of cereals, juices, tea and coffee options, toast, croissants, full English and veggie full english 😋 yummy. Would happily stay again through hotel. 👍

Entrance locked and not being let in after certain hours! I had to waste my time getting hold of reception. Very inconvenient for a hotel. It felt more like a prison! Such a shame as the hotel is very central and it has high standards of cleanliness. You should work on your accessibility and making guests feel the full getaway experience when stay at a hotel, instead of locking them. Keep your doors locked and no one will walk in!

I can't remember a notice in the registration card saying you only clean rooms every 3 days. It's a very poor standard of cleanliness anyway & this should have been posted on the hotel web. I wouldn't have booked if I had known. The dirtiest hotel I have seen in my life.

  • 1/5 Ruby S. 1 year ago on Google
I stayed at this hotel back in may and had the absolute worst three days of my life. I never take time to write reviews but oh my god. I was kept awake all day and night by (im assuming) the cleaners walking up and down the corridor with a trolley. The walls were paper thin and floor boards were creaky. Im a really heavy sleeper aswell so its got to be loud for it to wake me up. I wouldnt have minded if it was only for an hour or so in the morning but im not lying when i say it was literally all day. I also didnt find out that the hotel wouldnt let you have ‘guests’ in during a certain time until i had already paid and got to the hotel (this should be included on your website but i couldnt find it anywhere). I had a double room booked and came back to the hotel around 7am with two friends and the receptionist ran to the door and immediately demanded that one of them had to leave straight away. She was incredibly rude towards me and my friends, i asked her what time they’d be allowed in and she said not until after checkout time. I would have understood more if it was 3am but 7 in the morning is a normal time for people to be awake, we werent going to be having a party in my hotel room we were just going to chill out for a bit ??? I then asked the same woman about late checkout and she tried charging me £39 until (luckily) one of her colleagues told her it should only be £10!!! It was such a shame as all the other staff were really lovely towards me apart from her. I have paid less and stayed in nicer places in Manchester so was rather annoyed that i had wasted money thinking i was going to stay in a nice hotel. The Sachas around the corner was so much nicer than this place, really disappointed and wont be coming here again.

Right on the doorstep of everything. A bit dated but had everything we needed. Stayed 2 nights and got the 3rd night free. Had a breakfast which was good and fresh. Unlimited tea and coffee. Staff very polite and friendly. All in all a pleasant stay and will definitely stay again.

I don’t recommend at all. Too expansive for what it is. I stayed 4 nights for a conference and I was so glad to leave this hotel. My room number was 217. My friend was at another hotel 3 min from this one : it was cheaper and better. 1) it was not clean : There were some beard hairs left over on the sink and the bath tip from the previous customer who shaved his beard 2) the bedding was awful : all the springs were coming out of the mattress, it was hard to find a position without feeling any pain…… 3) the windows were in a very poor condition. It was wide opened as I arrived : I wasn’t able to close it….. 4) the curtains were so dirty 5) the floor creaks so badly as you walked 6) the wall are so thin, I was able to hear my neighbour’s phone vibrates 7) the floor is covered with carpet everywhere, it’s a personal preference but I don’t like it since it keep all the dust and dust mites.

Friendly and welcome service from all staff. Great location within walking distance of the station and cabs right outside the door. Clean rooms with everything you need. Hairdryer and iron really is a huge plus. Friendly staff and great English breakfast. The extras of wine and chocolates was lovely. Really would recommend. We came back late from the arena and the subway next door was great to grab a snack 😋

I have just returned home after a two night stay for my friends birthday, this was not my first visit to the gardens, the staff are amazing, helped my set up my room for a birthday surprise, they were so helpful and friendly The breakfast was has always delish 😋 only thing that could of made it better was some black pudding 😋. some of the hotel has been updated it's looking great ,some areas are old and tired but it is extremely clean and well maintained. The location is perfect to explore of Manchester....see you all again soon x

See the breakdown of the rating to help you make your decision. It's a lovely reception in here and off course pocket-friendly. It's situated in a nice place at the heart of the city. They've some nice rooms but some have no windows at all. Aim for their promo to fully get your money's worth.

Ideal location for us. Close to the coach station and easy to get the bus to the O2 Apollo. Room clean and comfortable and luckily we had a room at the back so reasonably quiet. Very friendly staff and lovely breakfast. Would visit again so thank you

Really lovely hotel, modern room, large room and fantastic bathroom! Breakfast was included received Prosecco and chocolates, and staff were lovely. The refurbished rooms are lovely - outside didn’t look too good but when you’re in the room it’s very nice! Breakfast was good too, thanks!!

It was a great location for someone visiting Manchester for the first time. Very close to the coach station, rail station, and buses, taxes and tramps for local transport. They don’t clean the rooms daily, or restock coffees etc unless you ask them to restock. I was there for a couple of nights. That was new to me for a hotel facility. Would I stay there again? Yes, for all the other positives.

I paid for an executive room, however, there was nothing executive. A room priced at £90 a night should be in a fit state to inhabit, this was not; I never stayed the night, and the room would be valued at £45 at best had it not had major issues. The lobby of the garden hotel had a pungent smell of sweet-rot, an odor I have only known to be given off by dead animals; the stench was overpowering in the lift. The hotel also had the lingering aroma of cannabis. The carpet in the 'executive' room was heavily stained, in need of vacuuming and had black Mould around the edges at the top of the staircase; the mold alone is a health hazard. After being in this room for about 45 minutes, while I sought out alternative accommodation, my skin became blotched with a red rash and my breathing impaired. The room was sparsely furnished with dated furniture which was scratched and soiled. It was decorated with dark red paint which was reminiscent of an establishment in the red-light district. The linens on the bed had holes in them and yellow stains from the previous occupants of the room. The accommodation looked nothing like the pictures. No tea or coffee was supplied. The room also lacked internet . When I went downstairs to ask the staff to either refund me or move me to a more suitable room I was told to leave as the hotel would not accommodate me as I was lying about the state of the room, this was after providing photos to the staff at reception. I have had to involve booking and I am awaiting a refund. I almost missed my interview as a result of this incident. I have had to payout a significant amount of extra money for appropriate alternative accommodation. The staff in this establishment are extremely rude. Please ensure you scroll through the reviews of the garden hotel as this is not an isolated incident.

I spent two nights at the Gardens Hotel. Enjoyable experience. The room was neat and well lighted. The room service was hood and the staff were friendly and polite. The bath was clean and the kettle in the room was quite helpful. The only complaint is about the mat on the floor. It was a bit dusty. The location is great especially during holidays which you prefer to stay in the city center. All the markets are in reach and easily accessible

Due to renovate soon (it doesn’t need it from what I can see) we enjoyed our stay with only two gripes. The entrance door opens outward at the top of steps so difficult with luggage (soon to be rectified) and the windowless rooms though cozy, clean and peaceful were ridiculously hot even using the room fan meaning we struggled to sleep. Nice decoration and welcoming. Thankfully there is a lift once you manage the entrance but it’s worth the struggle. Great value. We enjoyed an adequate full breakfast with perfect runny eggs, machine coffee, fresh juice and pastries. Would stay again in a heartbeat (in a room with windows probably).

We really enjoyed our stay. Had a wowcher deal £55 for a overnight stay with Prosecco, a box of chocolates and breakfast included. Can not fault the room, very nice and spacious, bed was huge and comfy. Had a nice view with the Christmas lights outside. Close to everything we needed. Staff were very nice and friendly. Would definitely return and definitely recommend👍

Spent a weekend at the Gardens Hotel. The hotel is centrally located, close to tram stops, the railway station and the main shopping areas. There are three good museums within 20 minutes of the hotel as well as plenty of places to eat! The hotel itself was great - the room (117) was spacious and clean, with a TV, tea & coffee making facilities and very good shower. The cooked breakfast was very good, and the hotel staff friendly and helpful. On our final day we were allowed to store our luggage there while we spent our final day in Manchester. Only negative point is that there is a pub and a nightclub behind the hotel that can get noisy! But despite that, I would happily come back to stay here and can definitely recommend this hotel!

Worst experience staying in this hotel. When we first arrived the staff were fairly friendly, however as soon as we got into the lift there was a strong smell of cannabis and sweat. The room was big enough and the bed was comfortable, the noise from the radiator was horrendous, the toilet seat was broken, the TV didn’t work and the noise from outside made it extremely difficult to sleep. Getting in from our night out we had to ring for the staff to let us in which is understandable for safety reasons, however the rude staff member asked our name and room number and then proceeded to ask about the ‘people behind us’ in an accusing manner when they were also hotel guests. The second day we were leaving the hotel and on our way out witnessed a cleaner spit on the carpet then act oblivious when he realised we were coming down the stairs. The last morning we got told we could have breakfast for £10 each which is ridiculous for the portion sizes. We approached the man who asked for our name and room, he looked and said ‘you’re not included in the breakfast’. We then explained the woman at reception said we could have it for an extra fee and he shouted over to the reception our room number which should be confidential to add it on. My boyfriend placed a used cup down to one side as there was nowhere to put it and no staff member present to ask, the same man come over and abruptly asked him if it was his and if he wanted it back. He explained he didn’t know where to put it and the man was gritting his teeth, giving him dirty looks and walked away. Would not recommend this hotel!
