Really nice friendly and polite staff. The service was really quick with the food. We stopped by for something to eat on our way to a gig. I forgot to take pictures of the food, but it was steak and cheese on chips and was reasonably priced and filled a hole! Thank you

Well priced for a lovely room with most things you could need - minus a hairdryer. Can hear noise from other guests quite easily but nothing unbearable. We had paid for a deluxe king room with a city view, photos advertised showed a large room with two big windows overlooking the city. We arrived and were put in a tiny room with a small window looking out onto a wall. We brought this up to the staff and even though they doubted whether they’d have a city view and bigger room available (even though that’s what we’d booked and paid a bit extra for) they did put us in the correct room as advertised. Breakfast which was included was lovely and cooked to our liking. Staff are easygoing

Great location to city centre (a couple minutes walk) and train station. Around corner from Manchester Cathedral, which is just beautiful, short walk to attractions such as museums and 5 minutes walk to all the shops. Room was really spacious and extremely clean. Bed was super comfy. Shower in our bathroom was hot!! 🙌 easy to adjust though if too hot for some. Stayed Sunday to Tuesday, pub quiz night on the Sunday, which was great fun!! Food is lovely, our breakfast both mornings was delish!!! Had a few games of pool with drinks on the Tuesday before we left for the train in the afternoon. Great atmosphere and the service the team provided throughout stay was fab 👌. Would definitely stay here again.

My partner and I were passing through Manchester before heading overseas. The Black Lion Hotel and the Mitre teams were instrumental in helping us send some of our belongings home. The teams went above and beyond to facilitate the administration of this, they were consistently helpful, warm and obliging. We have only great things to say about the team. The room was clean and with a comfortable bed. Breakfast was tasty. And location was close to all that we needed for our trip. Again big thanks to the whole team for your help. We really appreciate it! Amy & Saxon

Ideally located for the AO arena. Great value rooms with a comfortable bed and fantastic shower. Good breakfast and good value bar food, especially with the 20% discount for guests. The staff are all really friendly and helpful, and we'll definitely stay again.

Stayed overnight on 12th Feb. Was very nice. It's been refurbished brilliantly. The room was nice and clean. Modern. All the staff were very helpful and polite. Breakfast was very good. Well presented and cooked. Perfect location for Central Manchester. Plus 20% off guests food and beer. Although We had a room above some kind of noisy fan, it went off about 11pm and came on about 8 am. So we slept well. Also, room could have been warmer in the morning, and there was no heating on downstairs for breakfast. Apart from that, we will be back and would recommend this place for the price. Very good.

If you stay here it's best to ask not to have the quality street room if you're not much of night person as that's right above the speakers in the pub, so the noise will be very loud until 10:30pm. Shame we didn't get the breakfast because they only had one cook and that cook was ill, so got told to go to their sister hotel the mitre , when we went there the breakfast wasn't even prepared, waited 5 minutes and had a coffee, told there was a waiting time of 20-30 minutes for hot breakfast to be ready, by this time we had to leave to go to the train station. I'm sure on other days the experience would have been much better. Overall it's still a good place for the price.

I had an awesome stay here this week! The room was very modern, clean, and spacious. I loved that the room itself didn’t have carpet. The team was so helpful and kind, the location is excellent, and they have little things going on every so often at the pub like trivia nights that you can join in on! The only quirky thing was the automatic lights in the bathrooms - no switch, just motion sensor - so while I was in the shower sometimes the lights would turn off on me. Beyond that I really enjoyed!

Outstanding. 10 out of 10! Booked a room for one night and very happy with all aspects. Top quality and comfortable mattress, linen, pillows, temperature control, good shower. Nice bar area, good food and friendly staff. 20% discount on food and drinks for guests. Good full English breakfast. Could not fault anything. Will definitely book again next time i am in Manchester.

There is a small team of young staff who are all really polite, professional and really helpful. The rooms are lovely, really nice decor, great huge shower, comfy bed. Cooked to order breakfast was brilliant, poached eggs were perfect! Love the food & drink discount at the bar! The location is great, easy walking to city centre. A great stay - we will definitely be back!

Great location for exploring Manchester. Good choice of breakfast. Lovely recently furnished bed rooms. (Pity no air con, but fan supplied.) Friendly staff.

Very poor hotel. Hotel advertised “luxury” rooms. Mine was small and basic. Couldn’t reach the window without crawling across the bed. Drum and beat music from bar below (literally) shook the floor of the room until after 10pm. Wafer thin rooms so noise all night. Breakfast was instant coffee sachets with hot water from an urn. Cooked breakfast was reasonable. Wasn’t permitted to leave my luggage post check out for a couple of hours - had to walk it up to their sister hotel, the Mitre, where I was asked to leave it without ticket or proof of deposit there. When I returned it was still in the public place where I was asked to leave it. Staff at the Black Lion were not unhelpful, just a little uninterested. Chamber maid was good. It was a really poor hotel and would NOT recommend.

The ambiance is spot-on, with just the right balance of cozy and lively. We recently celebrated my husband's birthday at The Black Lion, and I can't recommend this place highly enough! From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was incredibly inviting and just perfect for our celebration. Special shout-out to the staff for their assistance during the pre-booking process. We were able to reserve a private room and pre-order some food. Everything was ready and perfect. If you're looking for a pub with an excellent atmosphere, and friendly staff, look no further!

we stayed at the hotel for 3 nights! polite personnel willing nice breakfast, warm room, decoration exactly as it is in the booking! it's beer from all over the rooms! if you are outside England you will need to have a special permit we bought it, the hotel didn't have to give it to us! the room was a little dusty also the garbage bag was only changed after the first night! the local perfection!

Really really nice place to stay. The hotel is very central, easy walking distance to all the Manchester stations. The room was newly renovated and the king size bed so comfortable it took effort to wake up. Quiet night sleep, tasty breakfast and really friendly helpful team running the place

Been here drinking now on a good few occasions with friends, staff always been fine polite friendly, on the 29/9 we went again we were playing pool and a lady informed us that they would be closing at 10pm to clean the pipelines 🤷🏻‍♂️ I said well I don’t drink beer so it doesn’t affect me in a joking context she then decided to criticise they way I asked for my jd and coke equal coke to jd with one ice cube please she stated I knew it would be you anyway 3+ hours later we passed the pub to see all the roller blinds were down with plenty of people inside when there was only around 5 people in total when we as 3 left all having a “private party” long after they closed at 10pm If they had said sorry guys we close at 10 tonight I wouldn’t of left this review, blatant lies and criticising paying customers that were nothing but Friendly and courteous 🤷🏻‍♂️

Stayed for three nights on a cheeky Birthday city break. First things first. The staff here are absolute legends!!! Cheerful, helpful, down to earth Manchester people. An easy walk from all of the main train stations. The rooms are lovely, clean and simple. The Manchester theming is a nice touch. My only tiny tiny ting gripe would be the lack of aircon leading to a pretty warm room. The hotel supply a fan but that turns off the minute you leave the room so on a warm weekend it was a warm room, could be tricky when it gets really hot. Aside from that very small point it's a great, simple, honest little spot. Thanks guys!

Very friendly staff. Checked in late around 10 pm. Nothing was too much trouble. Lovely clean room. Very comfortable bed. Woke up after our night out in town to an full English breakfast. Lots of coffee 😁and fresh orange juice. This booking was a last minute decision and couldn't ask for a nicer place to stay in the centre of town. Just a short walk and we were on deansgate. We've making this our first choice when we stay over in Manchester. Thank you. 😊 Regards Anthony and Zoe

Room was nice, staff were very friendly especially Joe and Katie. Had a great stay lovely shower and 20% off food and drink when you stay. Breakfast was a let down just get the avocado and poached egg looked nice but the full English was awful. Would stay again.

This was a great little find. Really good central location just at the back of Harvey Nichols. Rooms were modern and super clean. Beds were comfy and the bathroom was newly fitted. The room rate included a cooked breakfast (which was decent) and staff were young and friendly. Our room was on the 1st floor, the bar is open 24hrs (it was busy but not rowdy at 12.30am) and it's on a busy road so take earplugs! They recommend parking at Q park, which is a 5 min walk and they give you a discount voucher on check out. All in all, a great stay. I would recommend.

What an amazing stay! Hotel was just beautiful- the bed was extremely comfortable, room was very clean and well presented. Such a great location, very close to everything you need in Manchester. The staff was very friendly and helpful, evening staff and daytime staff. Was overall shocked how cheap the room was including breakfast, well worth the money! Breakfast was very good quality meat, and beautifully cooked. Will definitely stay here again, and I recommend anyone else staying here! Perfect!

I moved to Manchester during the pandemic and didn't know anyone. As soon as restrictions lifted and we could go to the pub I've been going to the Black Lion regularly and have made so many friends. The bar staff are so friendly and always make time to have a quick chat with you. It has a really homely atmosphere and just everything you would expect from your local pub. Also the quiz on a Sunday is always a plus. Definitely recommend if you're in the area.

👍👍 I was craving curry during my stay in Manchester. And Google suggested this place to me. It's in the centre, almost 6 minutes away from my hotel. The interior design is very hip and it has a great vibe. The music that is being played is modern. The curry was amazing. And the prices were perfect for...
