I've never been hesitant to leave a review, but this time I am. This place is an overlooked gem and I want to keep it to myself! The building has lovely architecture and is sympathetic inside. We were greeted by one of the nicest people I have ever met and actually shown to our room ... Something I've never experienced in some very expensive hotels. The room was quite, a lovely size and beautifully decorated. The room was very clean and the bed was a super king size and immensely comfortable. The bathroom was lovely and complete with shampoo, conditioner, body lotion and soap. Again, I've paid more the twice the price of this room and not had such facilities. The coffee tray was generously stocked with the usual, plus several packs of biscuits. The car park has plentiful free parking and the food in the restaurant is a big cut above the average ... Delicious! This and especially it's staff, made our stay a delight ... If I had known just how good it is I would have booked a longer stay for sure. BTW Access to the city is easy by bus or train direct into the city.

Propper PUB GRUB, big portion sizes :) everything was lovely and the staff were fab. The dessert brownie was impressive, buzzin with the size of it! Was so yummy. Would highly recommend this pub to locals :) We sat in the little huts inside and they were nice and snug, the person sat on the end may get abit wet if it rains ☔️

Went there to have a meal on our 37th anniversary. we got there at 8:00pm and sat down looking at menus.. we were approached by staff saying they stopped meals at 7:45. We promptly left. They had a large board in the car park still advertising meals and menu's on tables. It must be a good feeling to turn down money in these days. They would have begged for it in lockdown.

Average food, nothing special, over priced in my opinion. 50 minute wait time for mediocre food is way too long. Rump steak was terrible, over cooked when asked for rare. While we was there eating somebody kicked off with the management, using upsetting foul and threatening language. Management didn't even acknowledge it, no apology or anything to the customers, ruined the visit completely. Inconsiderate and lazy management in my eyes. Would not go back and will be advising against visiting with family and friends. There are much better places for those prices, with management that care about customers.

Not family friendly. Rude and unreasonable... First time we've been and won't be going again. Kicked out. Let us order food, paid and got a drink, then told we have to leave despite no prior warning and no details on the website or from staff when ordering at 7.30pm... tried to order pudding and told at this point no under 18s after 8pm. Barely finished meal. Couldn't even wait in car park, we had to leave the premises. Shocking, never known anything like it. Food was good and service was pleasant, nice selection on menu but not family friendly obviously and communication an issue. Ruined out evening and whole experience. Disgusting

Always been good food, good pub grub....... food is goin really bad. The chicken is pumped full of so much water you could ring it out and hang it on the line to dry.... the offers have all but dissappeard. Only few remain.. I understand they need to get the money back from covid but personally I don't want to come again. The beefeater is actually now cheaper.... service and staff are always outstanding... P.S. i expect these super large chickens to be across the full holts pubs.... shame on you.

I have to say, the building is amazing, plenty of parking space, close to Heaton Park if you want to go for a walk but the main draw for me, is the staff. They are really nice, and I mean real nice, not the fake type because someone told them. The food is fantastic and fairly priced as well.

Remember to use ʜᴏᴛᴇʟʙoʟʟʏ.ᴄᴏm when booking a resort. This web site will compare countless booking websites and usually will have rooms a lot cheaper than others! Thank me later! This place is one of my favorites in the area. I have been staying here for a very long time. If you stay for a few nights you will love it I'm sure! Great find near Heaton Park, especially as they welcome dogs! Food is very reasonably priced but also delicious. Staff couldn't do enough for us. Was busy due to lovely weather but they handled it excellently.

Hidden little gem. Great food. It was the first time I have been. Very friendly staff. Nothing was too much trouble. Diane was great, had a lovely chat. Will keep updated if I ever get away. Natasha and Paul xx

Rules are rules I suppose.Doesn't accept bookings but we thought they would make an exception for 9 people celebrating a 90th birthday (we explained this). But no, they expected us to bring a 90 year old on the off chance they could fit us in. Well done you lost £250-£300 and future business.

Very nice place, nice friendly staff. Ordered drinks and then ordered food. Coffee was good and the food was good too, nice selection of foods and also at a reasonable price. Not your a erage pub either so if you want good quality food then this is your place to go as they have a restaurant bit as well as the pub itself. Been coming here for years and it's always good service as well as food and drinks. 👌

Staff amazing service outstanding. Food a little disappointed on this occasion. Batter on fish very well done and a few black bits! Maybe oil needs changing. Pie was really enjoying but then stone cold on the centre. An off day! We usually really enjoy and we will visit again. Thank you

Lovely staff and great food. So helpful in seating our party of 6. Definitely recommend and revisit.

Had a fantastic 60th birthday here on the 13th of May, and Gaynor and Gary were really accommodating. The staff were fantastic! The buffet was amazing. Everyone said it was the best buffet they'd had. Would highly recommend this venue for anyone thinking of having a party. It was the best night. So a big thank you to everyone at the Woodthorpe! 😊

Just had tea here, i wouldb,t like to go on a busy evening, service was slow, we had to ask for the table to be cleared more thsn 30 minutes after we had finiished to make room for our deserts and what can i say about my curry othet than i have had thicker soups.

Make sure to use HoteITully.ᴄᴏm when booking your hotel. They compare thousands of booking web sites and typically will have rates a lot cheaper than others! You're welcome :)! This hotel is one of my favorites in the area. I have been staying here for a long time. If you decide to stay here you definitely won't be let down. Just finished an amazing meal, great service from the off, sorted us out with a large table without booking, food arrived really quick, piping hot and tasted fantastic. Price is very reasonable. Looking forward to coming back

I have been coming to the woodthorpe for many years with my family and as a party of 20 people who had just come back from a funeral (and spent a lot of money in your establishment) we’re made to feel very unwelcome by the rude manageress/landlady who shown zero sympathy or empathy towards us and muttered rude comments rather than speaking in a kind manner as she walked through the room. If you would like someone to move just ask them in a polite manner….it cost nothing to be kind.

Great pub, not been before but had a function room with food booked. Sandwiches were great, all the hot food was actually hot as it should be and the service and bar staff were friendly. Cracking pint of stout too!

A family wake was held here in a private function room. The food served was well presented and the hot bites were kept hot and there was plenty of everything. The service was excellent. There was a separate bar in the room so that we could keep to ourselves.

Food was tasty but disappointing that the deals don't run on the weekend anymore. Turned out to be a very expensive meal. The kids fish and chips was a good portion size but the halloumi popcorn was a very small kids portion. The roast dinners were nice and a good portion size x

Had a mixed grill here. It was great, and the steak was cooked to perfection. I like mine, medium rare, and most places don't get it right but the chef here did so 5 stars from me.

Stayed overnight in this grand and impressive looking hotel. Despite some of the reviews we found a friendly welcome and were quickly shown to our room. This was a good size and clean but the paintwork could do with a bit of a freshen up as could the corridor outside. After settling in we popped downstairs for a decent pint from the extensive selection at the bar. Food looked good but we were already dining out. However if breakfast was available we would have booked for that instead we had to go off and find somewhere in the morning. An opportunity missed perhaps? Overall we had a good stay and would use again if in the area.

Fabulous place. Good food and great staff. Only niggle is that non alcoholic beer should be available on all meal deals.

A lovely old pub with a welcoming staff. We had the Sunday roast (there's a vege option) and it was excellent! The staff really are top notch! Well worth a visit.

A little disappointed, we rang to book a table for 15 people, we were advised they don't accept bookings but they should be able to accommodate us. When we arrived we were told children under 16 have to be off the premises by 8pm. We were not informed of this the day before and had a 6yr old and 2 14yr old in the party. We were told it would be OK after we had ordered and paid for drinks, however 3 other members of staff came and told us the same thing. We were never going to be fed and out in less than an hour. We did stay and the food was ok. Might be a better place to visit as a couple rather than a family or group.

On our 5th visit today but it will be our last. Waited 40 minutes for our food to be told by a barman that we'd only ordered 10minutes ago! Waitress came and said it was just being plated up. 10 minutes later it arrived. The curry was good, the cheese & onion pie had obviously been warmed up in the microwave and was almost inedible. Disgusting.

Despite ringing on 3 occasions to get a table for 10 & being told there was no need & to just turn up. Well we did & apparently they don't do that. We were offered 2 tables of 4 & a 2 which were not even together! Well your loss was Mezopotamias gain as £329 later we had a great time there...all sat together..

Doesn’t even deserve one star! Went here with my family last night 4 of us. My nanna , dad , mum and myself. We was there from about 5 pm had food and to be honest you it tasted like it was cooked out of microwave meal £15 for lasagna and £6 for a bottle of bulmers, over priced but because we don’t live in manchester we thought it was nice to be out together and all be with each other as we don’t often do that. So fast forward to about 9:30 pm the manager comes to us and says the place is closing now. We looked at each other confused as the bar staff says it shuts at 11 which is standard time for a pub on a Thursday night. So after spending £110 in this so called pub we was asked to leave , never in my life have we experienced such bad customer service of this so called “ manager”. Absolutely disgraceful behaviour, avoid at all costs. They will eat your money and thow you out like trash. Not a nice place to visit really has gone down hill to what it was years ago. And 3 boys was also kicked out the same night for standing behind us waiting to get served! Shocking

Food was nice! Ordered the 10oz gammon which only weighed 8.5oz, asked for no mushrooms (came with mushrooms), only a handful of chips and about 10 peas, The server then started to clear the table before everyone on our table had finished eating

We were a party of 10 that didn't have to wait too long for the food as the eating area was busy.I had a sirloin steak, which was a bit chewy, to be honest. I had sticky toffee for pudding, which was great.Nice atmosphere priced much the same as many other pubs, will go back again.

Lovely food , especially the lamb kebab , nice warm welcoming place . Toilets fairly clean. Separate indoor doggy area and separate kiddy bit. Around crowed pleaser

After an hour and a half food came out cold and undercooked. All vegetables that were served are frozen and reheated so come out room temperature and flavourless. My complements to the chef: the microwave. The good service wasn't enough to cover the utterly horrendous quality of the food.

Stayed here for a weekend away. Room was clean, well kept, warm. Service from staff was impeccable. Great value for money, 5minute walk to the tram stop to get into central Manchester. Perfect spot and will 100% be returning when visiting Manchester again!

My wife and I used to eat here every Monday whilst our daughter was in the neo-natal ward nearby. We always got the steak hanging kebabs. We decided to visit again this week and found it had only got better: the kebabs were still superb, but the kids meals were great too and I had a fantastic seasonal beer from Holt's to go with it. It is a great venue to meet up with people.

We had our walking group Xmas lunch here this week. Two courses 12 pounds. Had the sea bass and it was gorgeous. The staff were very pleasant. The bar looked very nice and would certainly recommend

It was really lovely, they did was great, large portions too. There is a nice little dog friendly area with water and treats, there were only 2 tables so we were allowed to sit on the big table were the stained glass arch window is. It would be great if the section just before the bar on the left was opened up to dogs, it would be perfect and has a wooden floor 😁🐾 x

Stayed in the hotel for one night, lady that checked us in was lovely and showed us our room, great service! Room was spacious, clean and the beds are super comfy, all had a good night sleep. Value for money is definitely up there, exceeded expectations :) Food in the pub was amazing too. There was one little hiccup before arriving about amending the booking, spoke to a lady on the phone that wasn’t too accommodating but all got resolved in the end. Happy guests! Would recommend

I haven't been to The Woodthorpe for several years & I must say I was pleasantly impressed! The Scampi & chips was delicious and presented impeccably. The service was quick and the staff were lovely. I would have given 5 stars, but not too keen on dogs in the bar & eating area

Lovely Pub. The food is nice and well presented, the jack fruit wings are different but good. The children menu has a wide range to choose from and they are a good size. Perfect for a Sunday meal. Highly recommend.

Waited a little for food although can not complain as the place was full. Food came and 3 meals were piping hot. One of the meals came and the steak was beautiful however the chips and garnishes were cold. Strange as they came out together. Overall nice.

Great for drinks in the sunshine, however, the quality of the food and the service you receive while you're dining, has deteriorated. While it is cheap, it used to be a great spot for food. Now, you just get exactly what you pay for.

Yet another amazing meal with the family. The staff and manager couldn't do enough to find us a table for 10 despite it being busy. Told us a hour wait but was seated within 40 minutes. Food arrived quickly as always very hot and fresh. Reasonably priced too! This is why this place is our go to for food locally! Well Done to all the staff!👏

Entered the pub to be greeted by a very rude lady, who wasn't happy with a large group off people who came to eat! She kept telling us we had to sit 4 per table and no more which included a babychaires! She also informed myself who come with a 5 mother old baby to put him in the corner. She told my other son he couldn't have a desert yet as he hadn't finished his food! Apart from this the food was lovely and hot.

Good meal, good service. Should have asked for a plate though! Don't know why they have to serve a normal meal it a shallow dish rather than a plate. Better than a roof slate though I suppose.

Had sunday lunch today and it was so nice, carrots nice and crunchy, cauliflower cheese was amazing, Yorkshire pudding was nice and big and the beef was tasty, no skimping on the gravy either and it came with extra in a gravy boat. The best priced Sunday lunch in a nice atmosphere 👌 will definitely return
