Fifth-great-grandparents married here, David Wild and Hannah Brierley, on Apr. 4, 1825. They lived on Fir Lane, near Crompton, where he was a cotton weaver.

The atmosphere of this church is an added bonus to the quality services offered to the local area. Quiet reflection, shared prayers there is so much more to say but why not call in and see for yourself.

Hello, I've been watching a rerun of a brilliant police series on iPlayer called, Life on Mars. The show is very good in quite a few ways, time travel, the music is brilliant and the location's used. I knew the Church in the background of one show was a church I recognised in Middleton. After checking my Google Maps I found it was : St Leonard's, so I went to have a look. What a lovely little gem it is, built-in the mid 1100's I understand and a wooden church before this stone one. See the photos. I could not go in, it was all locked up. I'm hoping to go again soon and next time try and have a look inside. Special thanks to all who have looked after and loved this wonderful local place of worship.

There are nine bells hung in the tower at Saint Leonard’s Church. The oldest of these is the Sanctus bell, 0-2-24 in F#, was cast in 1614 by Robert Orwell. Of the eight ringing bells the current back six bells, 3 – 8, were cast in 1714 by Abraham I Rudhall. The two trebles were added in 1891, by Mears and Stainbank, to form the current ring of eight.

This beautiful church with all its history is a must to visit. Dating back to the 11th century, although it is not a big church it is steeped in history, with its special stained glass windows and ancient arches.the tower is one of the few in the country being wooden. The roof of the church is stunning timber. This magnificent parish church is a must visit.
