A very old temple. Legend has it that the great vaishnavite saint Sri Ramanujacharya himself stayed here for 12 yrs in the 12th century. Normal darshan queue is a bit lengthy during weekends, but 50 Rs tickets are available which cut the queue by great extent. Some of the pillars inside have intricate and beautiful stone carving work. There is a huge temple pond nearby. If you are visiting this temple around lunch time, don't forget to have your lunch at Subbanna Mess which is at a walkable distance from the temple.

The temple has short windows for darshan ... this is normal with many Vishnu temples. So best is to find the timings. The architecture of the pillars within the complex is very unique and not found anywhere. They are very beautifully carved. Pictures can not justify the work on these pillars.

This is one of the oldest temples built in the 12th century. This place is majestic with spectacular architecture and the calmness it unfurls. The place is maintained well and there are few stalls nearby to purchase flowers or fruits. There is a lot of place to sit around and pray too. There is no parking as such. Do visit

Scenery was awesome during evening. It has no road way to the top when i went to the temple. It became for old age people to travel to the top because the road way to the top is under construction. So we left our grandmother in the car and went to the temple. I took the photo of the god. You can check it in my photos. It has pushkarni also where you can bath and go to the temple. It has the steps to reach the temple. Photography was prohibited but i took the photo to show to my grandmother. What to do ? I have no option. Because there is no way for the car to go up. I liked the door up on the hill. The scenery from inside the door at the top was beautiful during sunset. But i didn't like the god's statue. It was not big. I think it is ancient temple. Ancient temples are always interesting. We can know about the history.

This is the most famous attraction of Melukote. Believed to be worshipped by Lord Rama and Lord Krishna and their many generations, Cheluva Narayana holds a special place in the heart of Hindu devotees throughout the country; it welcomes thousands of tourists and devotees annually.Cheluvanarayana Swamy Temple is located in Melkote in the Mandya District, Karnataka, India. The place is otherwise called Thirunarayanapura. It is based on rough slopes known as Yadavagiri or Yadugiri disregarding the Cauvery valley. The sanctuary is a square working of vast measurements however is plain and just meagerly ornamented with carvings or figures. It shows up from engravings that in the early hundreds of years after the sanctuary was manufactured, the Lord was additionally known by the name Ramapriya, yet this utilization has now totally vanished. The utsavamurthi, which is a metallic icon utilized for parades and certain religious customs, speaks to the divinity 'Cheluvanarayana Swamy. This temple was constructed in 12th century. Sri Ramanujacharya arrived to this town (Melukote) and glorified the temple even more. According to the legend this temple was set up and administered in such a way that there is no discrimination among people with respect to caste, color, rich or poor. This is the principle behind the popularity of this temple which adds to the blessings we get from the diety himself Sri Cheluvanarayana Swamy. The temple has a beautiful architecture with immense details to the structure. It is approximately 3 hours away from Bangalore. Please plan the travel time accordingly to manage the breakfast. Around kunigal there are chain of restaurants for breakfast. The temple is build around mountains so expect a hot temperature. There is another famous temple called Sri Yoga Narasimha temple nearby which is a must visit. The vehicles can go upto half a way and from there you will have to climb the stairs which takes approximately 15 mins. There is a pushkarni as well which is huge and a must visit. The temple queue system could be improved for faster Darshan. For lunch there are not so good options in melukkte town. The diety himself is very charming to look at. He seems to be at peace. Overall a very good pilgrimage spot.

Temple is widely visited by all who go to Melkote. The Prakara is very wide & has many pillars supporting the heavy stone slabs. No joining is seen & inter locking system is used in construction. Tidol is very beautiful & well decorated. This temple is very old, probably 1000 yrs old. the deity is very attractive. One would feel sacred and divine experience.

Hi ... it's privilege to get blessed by Sri Cheluvanarayana swamy at Melukote near Mandya district. Reason that on Melukote (Fort on mountain) has two kind of devine presence on Mountain you could find Narasimha Ugra Avathara (horrible). In Down of the mountain Divine presence in Soumya Avathara (Soft) Idol of Sri Cheluvanarayana swamy is so beautiful and adorable. Ramanujacharya was made the rajguru of Hoysala Empire, Lord Vishnu in a dream ordered Ramanuja to move to Melkote, where he find the holy Idol in earth then he installed and perform Pooja in the name of Sri Thirunarayana. It was Very old place for Iyengar Brahmins. It takes almost one day to see all the sacred place nearby Melukote. Big temple and valuable archeological craving in temple. After taking steep steps you will succeed to see Sri Ugra Narasimha temple. After reaching top of the mountain you will never forget the Melukote bird view. Every year procession of Sri Cheluvanarayana adorn with Rajamudi and vairamudi along with precious ornaments. Very nice to see the god in midnight procession. Go and have puliogare and other eatables nearby temple. Beautiful mountain view isworth to see once in life.

Melukote is around 55 km away from Mysuru, is famous for vyramudi utsava which takes places annually at the Cheluvanarayana Swamy Temple, with a collection of crowns and jewels which are brought to the temple for the annual celebration. On the top of the hill is the temple of Yoganarasimha. Many more shrines and ponds are located in the town. Melukote is home to the Sanskrit Research academy and collection of Vedic.

The ancient temple of Sri Cheluva Narayana Swamy and Sri Yoganarasimha Swamy temple atop the hill in Melukote. The pushkarini is quite beautiful. One needs to climb around 180 steps to visit Sri Yoganarasimha Swamy temple. The steps are quite steep. There is monkey menace as well. One needs to be careful. There will be rush on weekends. This place is also famous for Iyengar cuisine. One can see lots of carts and hotels providing Puliogare and sweet Pongal. One can also take back Puliogare mix or paste from here. Subbanna mess is quite famous for their food.

The main temple - visited by all who visit Melukote! It is a pretty large complex and you do get tickets to avoid the line and reach the Sanctum Santorum. Darshan can get little tricky with huge crowds. But we did have a proper of the idol and got few seconds to pray! It provided us with some additional energy into us for sure. Coming out of the darshan - you can walk around. On the right side of the temple you get to see some amazing pillar work done by our artisans. Take some time out and look at them. There is one pillar which took my breath away. The intricacies with which it is made is just exquisite. Some part is broken - not sure by tourists or otherwise! But it still looks Magnificent ❤️ The temple is maintained well and you have lot of options to sit around and pray. Must visit place for sure 😍

Magnificent !! 1000 years old majestic temple and deity is Cheluva Narayana - Most beautiful form of Lord Vishnu. As soon as you enter inner shrine mind becomes so peaceful and you can't take off your eyes from main deity 💓 I fall in love with splendid view of idol decoroted with ornaments and its beauty gets doubled from light of deepa's. Wow such great sight it is 👐🙏🙇 Temple complex has large varandas outside and inside main entrance. It has large numbers of devotees, especially from southern karnataka, daily 100-1000s of Pilgrims come here and gets blessings.

Melukote is the location of the Cheluvanarayana Swamy Temple, with a collection of crowns and jewels which are brought to the temple for the annual celebration. On the top of the hill is the temple of Yoganarasimha.

Blessed with Sri CheluvaNarayana Swamy it's a historical place now a day devotees are spoiling the environment. A lot of plastics were thrown in roads and near the temple Even the committee put it in a dustbins but devotees are not using that. Already we are losing so many historical places so please save our historical places for future generations and save nature.

What should I say?? One of the famous temple.. the sculptures are beyond my explanation. I think, government should take more concern and should put little effort make it popular and attract tourist. Thus place worth it.

Unlimited amount of history attributed to this great place on top of the hill. Please visit for a wholesome divine experience. The Yoganarasimha temple visit is a mini trekking in itself. The Cheluvanarayana temple is the representation of the glory of the old Mysore state and the Kalyani is a must visit place though cleanliness could have been managed better.

One thing is there is no proper maintenance of the place must keep it clean. It takes more than half a day to cover full place in melkote.
