For bird watchers this is a paradise. Although i have seen much bigger sanctuaries this one still stands tall. They have maintained it well. There is a rock garden, a hanging bridge and a watchtower. It's not a very large place but a very quaint one. Not a lot of tourists are here, so you can enjoy your peace in here. The major attraction is the boat ride. Tickets cost Rs.70 for an oar driven boat by a boatsman, the trip is a 15 min short trip and you get to see a lot of birds and alligators. One of those places i would surely receommend to anyone in this area.

Its one of the largest bird sanctuary in India. This area comprises of inlets of Kaveri river. The area was converted into a bird sanctuary by the insistence of Salim Ali, a well known ornithologist to the then king of Mysore. Its near to Mysore and we came here to visit in a bike. Boating is available and visitors can enjoy the ride. There are some scary stories involving the crocodiles but i cant seem to verify its authenticity. There are certain seasons in which there is a large nesting of birds. The water has crocodiles which one can see during the boat rides. There is limited sites to stay nearby and its always advisable to come from Mysore. On right seasons even the Siberian birds come here to nest. There is a pelican island in which there are around 50. These stay here permanently. Overall this is a great place to visit for nature lovers. Note: If rainy seasons the boats might be cancelled. So the plan can change suddenly

Great place to observe birds in their natural habitat. Plan well to spend decent time. This place is under forest department. It is unfair to charge for SLR cameras, depending on lense size. How does it matter whether take a picture from mobile phone or SLR.

Good experience It's a nice place to chill with a natural pond and a garden But access to the sanctuary should not be charged or should be less 70rs per person is high You will only find big storks lurking around with black ducks few fishes and if you are lucky you may spot an alligator
