Beautiful temple built in 1113 AD by a merchant named Rahuth and his wife Sahana Devi during the reign of King Vishnuvardhana. Looks very similar to other Hoysala temples and on a smaller scale. The best thing is it's not polluted by the tourists and is maintained in pristine condition by the locals. Another noteworthy thing is the whole village surrounding it has well-maintained cleanliness. If you visit this place please make sure to preserve the sanctity and the cleanliness. It is located on Hassan to Belur road, very little parking available so avoid going there on busy holiday time.

One of the earliest temples of the Hoysala Dynasty. Marvelous beauty on each sculpture, wall even the entrance with a stone sofa... Restroom - not available Timings - 8am to 6pm Vishesha or speciality of this temple is that you can see Kaali in front of Vishnu (to reduce the ugra /roudra of kaali) and Shiva in front of Lakshmi .

A temple of great find! Local guide is available who will take time to explain the importance of this temple. Parking available to re-route to your next destination Archeological site, so no need to worry about the timings it's open from 9-5 To summaries: The only Lakshmi temple that is in the standing positions taller than the Kolhapur Devi, Kali can also been seen in parallel to teh Bengal's Kali. host deity in all 4 direction, the only temple where you cannot bow-down without showing foot to the other, Lakshmi is front of Shiva, Vishnu is in front of the devi/kali , making them siblings. The architecture is also known to host the Vasstu Shastra Perfectly to demonstrate the prowess of the ancient minds of the hoysala kingdom! Add this to your itinerary if you happen to visit Belur!!

It was an amazing experience visiting this temple during the weekend from Bangalore. This place is located in a quaint little village. The village around this has roofs made of red bricks and the roads are made of cement. There is decent parking available for 5-10 vehicles here. The temple is made out of Black Stone and the details in it are quite intricate. This temple also belongs to the Hoysala Dynasty of which the Temples in Belur and Hoysaleshwara are very Famous. This is a lakshmi temple. The temple is surrounded by green well manicured grass. The temple walls are detailed as well as the ceilings. You can spend around half-an hour here easily. This is not a major tourist spot so you can have the entire place for yourself. Enjoy your visit here and have a nice day!

Wonderful hoysala architecture, ~900 year old temple of Lakshmi, Kali, Shiva and recently recovered (from a foreign museum) Narayana.. The local people said the ASI guides have Wednesday /Thursday as off. Plan your visit accordingly. The summers are too hot, dry - and given the village conditions - dusty as well. Carry lot of water. But one should step into the main entrance - to believe the coolness of stones. The boulders placed are too huge and heavy. We will be wondering how did people even manage to lift them up?! Forget the sculpting part, how do you even erect such huge pillars! I guess, we would need about 30-40 people to lift - but there isn't so much space for even 10 people to stand... So, there must have been some advanced engineering done to transfer power. May our (and next) generations pay good attention to preserve what is left at such sites of historical and architectural grandeur!

Beautiful temple in a small village that’s located by a peaceful lake. The person taking care of the temple lives nearby and he opened the gates as well as explained the carvings inside. A small stretch of road was under construction otherwise most of the way is descent and it’s about 5km deviation from the main highway with a board directing to the place. There aren’t any hotels nearby and roads to the place is narrow

This early 12th century soapstone temple happens to be one of the earliest known temples built in the Hoysala era. It is the only chatushkuta (four shrines) temple built by the Hoysala dynasty. It was the first grand temple dedicated to goddess Lakshmi in the South of India. There are many architectural aspects to it that are unique to this temple only and not found in any of the other Hoysala temples. I am talking about the architectural beauty called Lakshmi Devi temple that is located in the village of Doddagaddavalli. Unlike most of the Hoysala temples, which are dedicated to Lord Vishnu, the one at Doddagaddavalli is dedicated to goddess Lakshmi Devi. Maha Lakshmi faces east and right opposite her is the shrine of Lord Shiva facing west. Goddess Kali is located facing South and Lord Vishnu is located right opposite her facing north. As you enter the temple premises, you pass through a small hall with lathe turned pillars before you step into a courtyard with multiple shikharas showcasing Hoysala emblems. As you approach the door to this chatushkuta, you will see two large sculptures of females with intricate jewellery.

Beautiful Lakshmi temple of Hoysala Dynasty . This temple has brother sister concept of Indian society. Goddess Lakshmi is in the front of Shiva lingam & God Vishnu is in front of Goddess Amba(Parvati) brother-sister in front of each other. In the center of all four of them there is a Mandapa.

A beautiful living temple that once again is a Hoysala masterpiece in the Hassan region. The roads to this place from the highway is not great but it’s only about 20 mins. Hence its worth a visit. Narrow roads lead to the temple. No proper parking space. No entry fees. There were four deities in the sanctum sanctorum. Architecture is beautiful . At all spots on the Gopurum, the hoysala lion logo has been carved out.

The temple is very well maintained and is located in a very remote location with peaceful lake at the back. The lacality of the temple is very calm and soothing and the architecture of the temple is simply fabulous.

One of the best place to visit in Hassan. The temple needs renovation. On weekdays the tourists are less. Visit on Friday before 10 AM for the pooja. The archaka and tourist guides are very friendly and helpful. Indian temples to be protected at any cost!

There is a guide inside. According to him , this was the first Hoyasala temple. It houses Mahakali, Mahalakshmi, Mahavishnu and Shiva Idols inside. No rush. Can enjoy the koneru(lake) and the architecture with peace. The road to this temple is 2.5 kms from main road. A narrow cement road is under construction.

12th-century Hindu temple, built in the Hoysala style. Temple is well maintained and clean. one of the lesser known and less crowded place and its is maintained by archaeological survey of India. Behind the temple you can find small lake which is scenic and also pleasant place for spending your few minutes of your time during the visit to the temple. Make sure that you don't liter and maintain the place clean.

A beautiful temple. There is a guide who explains about the place very nicely. The place is very neatly maintained and very unique. You have 4 shrines. Goddess kali is opposite to lord vishnu and goddess lakshmi opposite to shiva. Hence it is called as chatuskuta (4 shrines). A must visit place !

A beautiful team situated in the middle of nowhere. It is one of the first temples built by the hoysala Dynasty and about 900 years old. Some of the architecture has been damaged over time as there is no proper maintenance. Lord Vishnu idol is missing or has been exported to UK. Lord Kalabhairava, Shiva, Hanuman, Kali and goddess Laksmi statues are available. A lot of schools in the surrounding areas make their field trip here. Worth a visit.

Extremely impressive in its details and stories hidden inside the temple's carvings. Do not miss this place and definitely ask the pujari to explain it to you. He described and showed all the important details very well, even though he spoke Kannada and we don't know the language, we were able to understand everything. The priest was really friendly and kind. The temple features some amazing sculptures such as a unique standing Lakshmi, bhoothanathas as dwarapalas, Agnidev, the family of Shiva and Parvati on Nandi, and many more. Absolutely beautiful temple. Make sure to incorporate it in your visit near the area.

Early 12th century temple, one of the earliest known temples built in the Hoysala era. It is supposed to be the only Chatushkuta (four shrines) temple built by the Hoysala dynasty. There are many architectural marvels unique to this temple. Most Hoysala temples are dedicated to Lord Vishnu, this one at Doddagaddavalli is dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi Devi. Goddess Mahalakshmi faces East and right opposite her is the shrine of Lord Shiva facing West. Goddess Kali is facing South and Lord Vishnu is placed right opposite her facing North. This is sort of the _Rudra roopa_ being balanced by the _Shanta roopa_ . The entrance the temple premises seems unassuming. We pass through a small hall with pillars before you step into a courtyard with multiple shikharas showcasing Hoysala emblems. This roof of this hall is also adorned by beautiful carvings....preparing you for the beauty that awaits you inside the main area. As we approach the Chatushkuta, we see two large sculptures on either sides of the entrance. The female forms are beautifully carved and are adorned with intricate jewellery. The temple interiors have many interesting items, the idols, the intricate carvings, a story ....all that weave magic around us. The exterior is reminiscent of Amrutheshwara Temple in Amruthapura but the shikara shows the hoysala lanchana. The courtyard is spacious, with small temple like structure on four corners. On one side is a water body adding to the serenity. The temple is under the care of ASI. Landscaping and upkeep is taken care of.

This is a magnificient temple for its architectural brilliance. Do visit this temple and observe the ceilings. The Dikpalas the 8 cardinal directions are represented accurately and elaborately on the ceilings Just in the enterance towards left side is Goddess Kali and his dwarpal the Vetaals are guarding her dont be scared on seeing this dark figurines As you move ahead Goddess Lakshmi blesses you with her calmness and Shivling adores to restore the balance. Lord Vishnu faces Goddess Kali trying to calm her fierceness There is a calm lake just behind the temple some beautiful birds can be found by the lake.

It is 12 century temple beside the lake. The guide over there is very kind and generous to people. Explained the history behind the temple. Peaceful to sit near the banks of the lake. The temple closes by 6.15pm.

Simply awesome would not describe the beauty of this archaeological and mythological marvel. Located in a very remote area and quite difficult to approach (the road being very narrow and making one doubt whether he/she is on the right road, it is such a quaint temple. The name is quite misleading as there are four main deities, Shanthakali, Shiva, Lakshmi and Vishnu, one on each direction and the roofs are a wonder in itself telling indian hindu mythology stories... We had a good guide who explained in the local dialect Kannada as he had limited knowledge of English, but we could still understand much of it. The sounds of peacocks and the lake behind and the zero crowd (it was just me and my family) made it great to take some absolutely wonderful memories back home.. There was only one board leading us here... And even from there we found it difficult to find our way.

Beautiful Hoysala architecture. This is actually the first ever known temple built by the Hoysalas. You don't have to worry about the crowd as it is a lesser known temple. There will hardly be any people. But highly recommended to visit. Can plan to visit here if you're visiting Belur.
